CCU Education and Religious Studies Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

Education and Religious Studies is on JAMB’s list for Coal City University but not on CCU’s own Faculty of Education page or the NUC results. See the 150 minimum, JAMB subjects, what to ask CCU and the alternatives.

The CCU Education and Religious Studies cut-off mark, if the course is admitting, is 150 in the UTME, the national minimum JAMB set for universities for 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a departmental cut-off for it and did not declare its own figure at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting. Check the next paragraph but one before you choose it, because there is a real doubt about whether CCU runs it.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Important: Education and Religious Studies is on JAMB’s course list for CCU (exact JAMB name: Education and Religious Studies), but it is not on CCU’s own programme list. CCU’s Faculty of Education page names fifteen B.Ed. degrees, with no Religious Studies among them, and the NUC’s accreditation results for CCU have no line for it. So I can’t confirm that CCU currently admits into this course. If you want religion at CCU, the course CCU advertises is the B.A. Religious Studies in its arts faculty. If you want a teaching degree at CCU, Education and English Language and Education and Social Studies are fully accredited and accept CRS among your subjects. UNN runs Education and Religion. Ask CCU in writing before you register this course.

Why JAMB lists Education and Religious Studies at CCU when CCU does not

JAMB’s course list for a university records every course the university has registered with JAMB. A university’s own faculty page shows what it presents to students now. When the two disagree, the course may be dormant, approved but not yet started, or folded into another degree. Public sources do not tell me which of these applies here.

Three facts point the same way:

  • CCU’s Faculty of Education page: it lists fifteen B.Ed. degrees in two departments, Education Foundation and Science and Computer Education. The science department shows only B.Ed. Education and Computer Science and B.Ed. Education and Biology. Education and Religious Studies is not there.
  • The NUC record: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (September 2026) has nine Education lines for CCU: Business Education, Education Biology, Education Computer Science, Education English, Education Economics, Education Political Science, Educational Management, Guidance and Counseling and Social Studies. There is no Education Religious Studies line, and CCU’s B.A. Religious Studies has no line either.
  • No NUC report page: a search of NUC’s published accreditation reports turned up CCU reports for Accounting, Business Administration, Biochemistry, Computer Science and Economics only.

The faculty page was last edited on 1 February 2024, so it could be behind. Even so, I would not register a course on JAMB that a university does not show anywhere on its own site without written confirmation. CAPS proposals come from the department, and a department that is not admitting cannot propose you.

What to ask CCU before you register

  1. Is the course admitting for the session you are applying to? Ask for a yes or no in writing, by email.
  2. What is its NUC status? A new course can run before its first NUC visit, but you should know that before paying.
  3. Which department will teach it? If the answer is the Department of Science and Computer Education, ask why it is missing from the faculty page.

Use the contact details on ccu.edu.ng or the admission portal. CCU said in August 2026 that admission letters go out only through the portal and the applicant’s registered email, so ignore anyone who offers to confirm a place by phone or WhatsApp for a fee.

2020/2021160CCU’s general minimum UTME score for all programmesCCU’s own How to Apply page, written for that exercise

The 160 line is the only CCU-issued figure I found. It sits on the university’s How to Apply page, which was written for the 2020/2021 admission exercise and last edited in February 2022. CCU has not repeated it in any later notice I could reach, so treat it as history. The blog AbsTechConnect gave CCU’s cut-off as 150 in May 2026 without citing a CCU document; that matches JAMB’s floor and says nothing about this course.

Safe target score for Education and Religious Studies at CCU (my advice)

Education courses at private universities rarely fill up on score alone. The NUC quota and the number of candidates with clean O’level results usually decide who gets in. The table is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a CCU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for CCU Education and Religious Studies
Below 150Not eligible through UTME. Look at CCU’s JUPEB or IJMB route, or rewrite the UTME
150 to 159Eligible on paper; complete O’level papers and an early application matter more than the score
160 to 179Comfortable for a private university; this also clears the 160 CCU once used
180 and aboveStrong; UNN’s Education Arts courses, including Education and Religion (160 to screen), are open too

For a 2027 candidate I would aim for 160 or more. It is the figure CCU itself used in 2020/2021, and it also clears the 160 that ESUT and UNN asked for in 2026/2027.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Education and Religious Studies

The JAMB brochure entry for Education and Religious Studies has no CCU remark, so the general rules apply.

RequirementEducation and Religious Studies (JAMB general rule)
JAMB course name to registerEducation and Religious Studies (Coal City University)
UTME subjectsUse of English, two Arts subjects including Religious Studies (CRS or IRS), and one other subject
O’levelFive credits (or TC II merits) including English Language, Religious Studies and three other subjects, mainly Arts
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list)
SittingsNo more than two, per CCU’s older How to Apply page
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes or NCE merit in Religious Studies and one other Arts subject

Choosing your UTME subjects

CRS or IRS is fixed, and one more Arts subject must sit beside it. My pick is English, CRS, Literature in English and Government. Several universities that add remarks ask for CRS plus two Arts or Social Science subjects (DELSU and TASUED, for example), and this set meets both. It also qualifies you for CCU’s B.A. Religious Studies and Education and English Language, so you can switch without rewriting the UTME.

O’level points to watch

  • CRS or IRS at credit: a pass fails the rule even with a high UTME score.
  • Mathematics: the general rule does not name it, but CCU’s older admission page asks every applicant for a Mathematics credit, and LASU, DELSU, UNILORIN and others add it for this course. Have it.
  • English at credit: named by JAMB and by CCU.
  • Sittings: no more than two WAEC sittings, per CCU’s How to Apply page.

Direct Entry

The brochure accepts two A-level passes or an NCE merit in Religious Studies and another Arts subject. UNN, for example, takes NCE credit in CRS into 300 level. CCU has no remark, so get written confirmation that the course is admitting first. All 2026/2027 degree admissions, including NCE-based ones, go through CAPS.

How CCU screens Education and Religious Studies applicants

CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach. For the university as a whole:

DetailWhat is known for 2026/2027

Admission lettersIssued only through the admission portal and your registered email (CCU notice, 13 August 2026)
Other routesJUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms advertised for 2026/2027

Worked example (illustrative)

CCU publishes no aggregate formula, so this example checks margins and subject rules only.

Take Chinonso, who scored 157 with English, CRS, Literature in English and Government. His NECO (one sitting) has C5 in English Language, B2 in CRS, C6 in Mathematics, C4 in Literature, C5 in Government and B3 in Civic Education.

  1. Eligibility: 157 minus 150 = 7 above JAMB’s minimum, 3 short of my 160 target.
  2. UTME subjects: CRS and Literature are two Arts subjects, with Government as the other. He qualifies.
  3. O’level: English, CRS and Mathematics at credit, plus Literature and Government. He qualifies.
  4. Course check: he asks CCU by email whether the course is admitting. If not, his subjects fit CCU’s B.A. Religious Studies and Education and English Language.

Now take Adaeze, who scored 178 with English, Economics, Commerce and Government. She has no CRS or IRS in the UTME, so she does not meet the rule for this course.

Admission odds and advice

  • Competition is low: teaching degrees at a private university attract fewer applicants than Nursing, Law or Computer Science, so a 150 to 160 score with clean papers has a real chance.
  • Documents decide most cases: a missing subject credit or an O’level that is not on CAPS stops more applicants than a low score.
  • Make CCU your first choice: if you did not, do a JAMB change of institution before CCU starts proposing names on CAPS.
  • Check the course name: if you registered a course CCU is not running, a JAMB change of course to the right one is better than waiting.
  • Dates: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities. The wider 2026/2027 exercise runs until 31 December 2026, and JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal.

Who this course suits

The degree suits a candidate who wants to teach CRS or IRS in secondary school, or combine teaching with church or mission work. At CCU, I would register it only after CCU confirms in writing that it is admitting; otherwise Education and English Language or the B.A. Religious Studies is the safer choice.

How to apply for Education and Religious Studies at CCU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: choose Coal City University and the course Education and Religious Studies, with Use of English plus CRS or IRS, one more Arts subject and any other subject.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. CAPS cannot recommend you without it.
  4. Fill the CCU form: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, generate the invoice, pay the amount it shows and keep the receipt and printout.
  5. Watch for screening: check the portal and your email, since CCU has not published screening dates or a test format.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any official source I could reach. Pay only against an invoice on the CCU portal.

Before you pay

Education and Religious Studies is on JAMB’s list for CCU but missing from CCU’s own Faculty of Education page and from the NUC’s results. Get written confirmation from CCU that the course is admitting and ask for its NUC status before paying any fee, apply only through portal.ccu.edu.ng, and never pay an individual for a place.

Studying Education and Religious Studies

Is CCU Education and Religious Studies accredited?

Not confirmed. The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results list nine CCU Education programmes and none is Religious Studies. No result is recorded, which is different from a denied result. Ask CCU for the current position.

What you study

CCU has not published a curriculum. A Nigerian B.A.(Ed.) or B.Ed. in Religious Studies normally runs for four years from UTME entry:

  • Religion content: Old and New Testament studies, church history, African traditional religion, Islam, Christian ethics and comparative religion.
  • Education courses: philosophy and psychology of education, curriculum studies, CRS teaching methods, and measurement and evaluation.
  • Teaching practice and project: a supervised school placement and a final-year project.

Careers

Graduates teach CRS or IRS and Civic Education after TRCN registration, serve as school chaplains or counsellors, work in church and mission administration, faith-based NGOs and publishing, or go on to theology or a master’s in religious education.

Mistakes that cost Education and Religious Studies applicants a CCU place

  • Registering a course CCU does not show: confirm in writing first.
  • No CRS or IRS in the UTME: it is the one fixed subject.
  • Skipping Mathematics at O’level: CCU’s general admission rule asks for it.
  • O’level not on CAPS when CCU starts proposing candidates.
  • Paying an agent: CCU issues letters only through its portal and your registered email.

CCU Education and Religious Studies cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Does Coal City University offer Education and Religious Studies? It is on JAMB’s course list for CCU, but CCU’s own Faculty of Education page and the NUC results do not show it, so confirm with CCU in writing before registering.

What is the cut-off mark for Education and Religious Studies at CCU? If the course is admitting, 150, JAMB’s 2026/2027 university minimum. CCU has no departmental figure; I would aim for 160.

Can I use IRS instead of CRS for Education and Religious Studies? Yes. JAMB’s rule asks for Religious Studies, which covers CRS or IRS, in the UTME and at O’level.

Do I need a Mathematics credit for Education and Religious Studies at CCU? JAMB’s general rule does not name it, but CCU’s admission page asks every applicant for English and Mathematics credits, so have one.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the rule that admissions must go through CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026. The 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025), and CCU’s absence from the declared figures is based on News Central’s 2026 list of university cut-offs. The course name comes from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s CCU course list, and the subject rules from the JAMB brochure entry for this course (Myschool reprint); both were checked on 30 October 2026. CCU’s own programme list is from its Faculty of Education page (last edited 1 February 2024), and the 160 figure, two-sitting rule and form fee come from CCU’s How to Apply page (2020/2021 exercise). The accreditation position comes from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) and a search of NUC report pages. The 2026/2027 advert is from Myschool’s reprint (18 May 2026); applicant groups are from AbsTechConnect and are unofficial. Comparison figures for UNN and Spiritan University come from those universities’ 2026/2027 notices as covered in our linked guides. Checked on 30 October 2026. This page will be updated if CCU publishes a departmental cut-off or the NUC publishes a new result.
