UNN Cut-Off Mark for Radiography 2027/2028: Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences Admission Guide

UNN Cut-Off Mark for Radiography 2027/2028: Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences Admission Guide
UNN’s 2026/2027 screening minimum is 160, but it has published no Radiography cut-off. Here are the verified UTME-only entry rules, O’level subjects, an aggregate example and the score to aim for.

The UNN cut off mark for Radiography for 2026/2027 starts at 160. That is the UTME score the University of Nigeria, Nsukka asked for in its 2026/2027 screening notice of 13 July 2026, for candidates who chose UNN first. UNN has not published a separate departmental cut-off for Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences for 2026/2027, or for 2025/2026, so any “official” Radiography figure you see on another site did not come from the university.

2027/2028 update: UNN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

There is a second number to know. At the JAMB 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, UNN’s declared minimum was reported as 200. So UNN accepted screening applications from 160, its declared institutional benchmark at the policy meeting was 200, and a competitive allied health course like Radiography admits far above both. Below you will find the verified requirements (UNN admits Radiography through UTME only), how screening worked, an aggregate example, the score I would aim for, and the CAPS steps.

Keep the two kinds of number apart. The general cut-off (160) is the gate to screening. A departmental cut-off is the lowest score actually admitted into one course in one year, and it depends on how many people applied and how well they did. UNN has not been releasing that second figure, which is why I give you a target range further down and label it as advice.

UNN Radiography cut-off history

This table holds only figures that trace back to UNN or JAMB. None of them is a Radiography-specific score, because UNN has not published one.

Some blogs print a “2025/2026” Radiography cut-off of about 240 to 250. The page that carries it says the numbers are estimated from trends, and it does not say whether they are UTME scores or aggregates. I mention it only so you recognise it when you see it; it is an unofficial estimate, not a UNN figure.

UTME subjects and O’level requirements for Radiography at UNN

UNN’s Faculty of Health Sciences lists its own admission rules for Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences, and the JAMB brochure entry for the course gives the UTME subjects. Here is what both say.

RequirementWhat you needSource
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, BiologyJAMB brochure entry for Medical Radiography and Radiological Science
O’levelFive credits in SSCE or equivalent: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, BiologyUNN Faculty of Health Sciences admission page
Admission routeUTME onlyUNN Faculty of Health Sciences admission page
Direct EntryNot offered at UNNUNN Faculty of Health Sciences admission page
Minimum UTME to apply160, UNN as first choiceUNN screening notice, 13 July 2026

The faculty page does not say how many sittings it accepts for Radiography. JAMB’s brochure remarks allow UNN up to two sittings for Nursing and Pharmacy, and many candidates assume the same here. If you can get all five credits in one sitting, do it; it removes the question entirely. If you are combining two results, ask the faculty before screening.

The Direct Entry point matters. If you hold A’level, an ND, or a degree in a related science and hoped to enter Radiography at UNN in 200 level, the faculty says that route does not exist for this course. You would go through UTME like everyone else. Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science at UNN do take Direct Entry, according to the same faculty page.

For the UTME itself, two of your three science papers lean heavily on content you can plan for. Our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus guides list the topics JAMB draws from.

UNN screening for 2027/2028: what Radiography candidates had to do

UNN did not run a written post-UTME test for 2026/2027. The Registrar’s notice of 13 July 2026 described an online screening registration only, with no test date and no exam format. If a website is selling you “UNN post-UTME past questions for 2026/2027” as preparation for Radiography, know that the official notice did not mention any paper.

The portal route was unn.edu.ng, then UNN Portal at the top right (unnportal.unn.edu.ng), then Prospective Students and the 2026/2027 screening form. You entered your JAMB registration number, generated and paid the invoice, came back to fill personal and O’level details (including centre and exam numbers), uploaded your documents, reviewed, submitted and printed the acknowledgement slip. The notice warned that date of birth cannot be changed after submission.

The window is closed. If you did not register by 5 August 2026, UNN cannot consider you for 2026/2027, whatever your score.

How UNN ranks Radiography candidates (aggregate example)

UNN has not published its aggregate formula. Neither the 2026/2027 screening notice nor the 2025/2026 advert notice gives weights or grade points. The 2025/2026 advert notice did refer to a separate screening score with a 160 threshold, but it did not say how that score is worked out.

Several Nigerian education blogs describe the same method, and it is the one you will see most often: 60% of your UTME score plus 40% of an O’level score built from four relevant subjects, where A1 = 100, B2 = 90, B3 = 80, C4 = 70, C5 = 60 and C6 = 50. Treat the example below as an illustration of that blog method. It is not an official UNN formula.

StepWorking
UTME score255
O’level: PhysicsB3 = 80
O’level: ChemistryB2 = 90
O’level: BiologyA1 = 100
O’level: MathematicsB3 = 80
O’level total (out of 400)350
60% of UTME255 × 0.6 = 153
40% of O’level350 × 0.4 = 140
Aggregate (out of 400)153 + 140 = 293

That candidate ends up with an aggregate of 293 out of 400 on the blog method. Notice how much the O’level carries: drop Biology from A1 to C5 and the aggregate falls by 16 points, roughly the same as losing 27 marks in the UTME. If you are still writing WAEC or NECO before your next UTME, your science grades are the cheapest marks you can add.

How competitive is Radiography at UNN, and what score should you aim for?

Radiography sits in the same applicant pool as Medicine, Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science. Many candidates who miss Medicine are offered or choose Radiography, which pushes up the bottom score on the list. The department is also old and established: it was set up in the 1982/83 session and took its first students in 1983/84, so it draws applicants from well beyond Enugu.

My advice (not a UNN figure): treat 160 as the entry ticket only. For a realistic chance on merit, I would aim for a UTME score of 250 or more, and closer to 260 to 270 if your O’level grades are mostly C4 to C6. A candidate from a catchment state with strong grades may be admitted lower, but you cannot plan around a list UNN does not publish.

If your score is in the 200s, keep a sensible second option. Within UNN’s health faculty, compare Medical Laboratory Science and Medical Rehabilitation; outside health, Biochemistry and Microbiology use a similar subject set.

Merit, catchment and ELDS for Radiography at UNN

UNN is a federal university, so it works under the federal admission guideline that is widely reported as 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% educationally less developed states (ELDS). UNN has not published its own split for any course, so read that as the national policy rather than a UNN figure.

  • Merit: the top scorers in the course, from any state, fill this list first. It is where the highest cut-off sits.
  • Catchment: UNN has not published its catchment list. It is generally understood to be the South-East states; confirm on JAMB CAPS or with the UNN admissions office before you count on it.
  • ELDS: this is a federal designation. UNN does not publish its own ELDS list, and I would not rely on any blog that names states “for UNN”.
  • State of origin: the state on your JAMB profile is what counts, and UNN asks for an LGA identification letter as proof during screening.

For Radiography the practical point is simple. If you are from the South-East, you may have a second route through the catchment list. If you are not, you are competing on merit or ELDS, and you should plan for the higher score.

Step by step: from JAMB profile to resuming for Radiography at UNN

Deadline

JAMB told public universities to conclude 2026 admissions on or before 31 October 2026, and candidates have four weeks to accept an offer on CAPS or risk losing it. If UNN has offered you a place, accept it on CAPS now.

  1. Get or recover your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example, NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with your profile code, which you need for registration and other JAMB services.
  2. Make UNN your first choice: UNN screens only candidates who chose it first. If you are planning for 2027, choose UNN and the exact course at registration so you do not pay for a change of institution later.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result has to show on your JAMB profile. For 2026/2027 UNN asked for the upload to CAPS and the UNN portal by 5 August 2026. A JAMB-accredited CBT centre can do the CAPS upload if you cannot.
  4. Register for UNN screening: when the next notice comes out, fill the form on unnportal.unn.edu.ng, pay through Remita and print your acknowledgement slip.
  5. Check CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, click Check Admission Status, then Access My CAPS and Admission Status. On a phone, switch your browser to desktop view first.
  6. Accept or reject: read the course name, then click Accept. If you see a Transfer Approval, UNN is offering you a different course, and you must respond to that first.
  7. Print your JAMB admission letter and pay acceptance: after CAPS, pay UNN’s acceptance fee on the UNN portal. Blogs report it as ₦25,000, but I could not find an official 2026/2027 figure, so confirm the amount on the portal itself before you pay.
  8. Clearance: follow the faculty’s clearance instructions with your original documents. Nobody can “secure” a place for you on CAPS for money.

UNN’s homepage already carries 2026/2027 notices for its primary admission list, its Direct Entry list and lists for candidates with disabilities and foreign candidates, and Myschool reported on 25 October 2026 that the list is checkable on CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status message you may see.

What you study in Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences at UNN

The department was called the Department of Radiography until 1991, when a curriculum revision during UNN’s move from the term system to the semester system gave it its present name. Its first curriculum was drafted in 1983 with input from bodies including the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria and the Association of Radiologists of West Africa, approved by the UNN Senate in 1984, and has since been revised three times in line with NUC minimum standards and professional body demands.

  • Early years: basic sciences with anatomy and physiology, then radiation physics and the physics of imaging equipment.
  • Imaging practice: conventional X-ray, contrast studies, computed tomography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging, plus radiographic positioning.
  • Radiation protection and radiotherapy: how to keep patients and staff safe and how radiation is used in cancer treatment.
  • Clinical postings: supervised practice in hospital imaging departments.

After graduation, radiographers in Nigeria register with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria before they practise. Graduates work in hospital imaging departments, private diagnostic centres, radiotherapy and oncology units, ultrasound practice, equipment companies as application specialists, and research or teaching after a higher degree.

Common mistakes Radiography applicants make

  • Planning on Direct Entry: UNN does not offer it for Radiography.
  • Treating 160 as safe: it only gets you screened.
  • Missing Mathematics or Physics in O’level: the faculty lists five specific credits. A distinction in Agricultural Science cannot replace a missing Physics credit.
  • Forgetting the CAPS upload: UNN cannot admit you on results JAMB cannot see.
  • Choosing UNN second: UNN screens first-choice candidates only.
  • Trusting “official” departmental lists: UNN has not published one for this course.

UNN cut off mark for Radiography: frequently asked questions

Is 230 enough for Radiography in UNN? A score of 230 clears the 160 screening minimum, so you can apply. It is below the 250 or more I would aim for in this course, so it is a risk unless your O’level grades are very strong or you qualify on the catchment list.

Does UNN offer Direct Entry for Radiography? No. UNN’s Faculty of Health Sciences says Medical Radiography and Radiological Sciences admits through UTME only.

Can I use awaiting result for UNN Radiography screening? No. The 2026/2027 notice said candidates awaiting results were not eligible, and your O’level had to be uploaded to CAPS and the UNN portal by 5 August 2026.

Has UNN released the 2026/2027 Radiography cut-off mark? No. UNN has published no departmental cut-off for 2026/2027. The only official figure is the 160 needed to apply, and admission lists are being released on JAMB CAPS.

Sources and updates

The 160 minimum, screening dates, fees, eligibility rules and portal steps come from the UNN Registrar’s notice 2026/2027 Screening Exercise for Admission of 13 July 2026. The reported 200 benchmark comes from Vanguard’s 11 May 2026 report of the JAMB policy meeting (via AllAfrica), and the national 150 minimum, the 31 October deadline and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the same meeting. The 2025/2026 figure of 160 comes from reprints of UNN’s October 2025 advert notice. The admission route and O’level rules come from the UNN Faculty of Health Sciences admission page, and the department’s history from its pages on the same site. UTME subjects are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure; check your own JAMB e-brochure before you register. The aggregate method is a blog method, not a UNN formula, and the ₦25,000 acceptance fee is an unofficial report. Checked on 29 October 2026; I will update this page if UNN releases departmental cut-offs.
