The CCU Business Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the JAMB national minimum for universities in 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu, has not published a separate cut-off for Business Education or for any other department, and it was not on the list of universities that declared their own minimum at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. So 150 with the right subjects and CCU on your form is the score you need to be considered.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Business Education is on JAMB’s course list for CCU under the exact name Business Education, and CCU’s Faculty of Education page lists it as a B.Ed. programme. The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list shows it moving from Interim to Full, with a maturity date of 2030. The one thing that catches candidates out is the UTME combination: Mathematics and Economics are both compulsory, and Commerce or Principles of Accounts cannot be your third subject under JAMB’s general rule.

AbsTechConnect, a blog, gave CCU’s cut-off as 150 in May 2026 without citing a CCU document. I read that as the national minimum, not a separate CCU decision.
Safe target score for Business Education at CCU (my advice)
This is my own reading, not a CCU rule. Education programmes at private universities rarely fill from high scorers, and Business Education is not one of the courses where candidates crowd in. Your subjects and O’level will decide more than your score.
| Your UTME score | My read for CCU Business Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for UTME entry; consider JUPEB or pre-degree |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; realistic with clean O’level credits |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable for CCU |
| 180 and above | Strong; ESUT and UNN are also open to you |
My target for a 2027 candidate would be 160 or more.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Business Education at CCU
The JAMB brochure entry for Business Education has a long list of university remarks (UNN, ESUT, UNIZIK, ABSU, EBSU and many more), but none for CCU. The general rule therefore applies.
| Requirement | Business Education at CCU |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name to register | Business Education (Coal City University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one of Literature in English, History, Government, Geography, Chemistry or Physics |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics, plus two other Social Science or Arts subjects |
| NBC holders | Commercial subjects such as Commerce, Office Practice, Principles of Accounts, Secretarial Duties, Typewriting and Shorthand can count |
| Sittings | Not stated by CCU |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes or NCE merit in two relevant subjects, or NCE merit in Business Education Double Major |
The Commerce trap
Many business-minded candidates write English, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce, because those are their strongest subjects. JAMB’s general line for Business Education does not list Commerce or Principles of Accounts as the third subject; it lists Literature, History, Government, Geography, Chemistry and Physics. Some universities accept Commerce through their own remark, but CCU has none. If you are registering for the 2027 UTME, pick Government or Geography as your fourth subject to stay inside the rule.
Direct Entry from NCE
Business Education is one of the most common NCE courses, so Direct Entry matters here. JAMB’s general rule accepts NCE merit in two relevant subjects or in Business Education Double Major. CCU’s 2026/2027 form was open to Direct Entry candidates, according to AbsTechConnect, but CCU has not said whether NCE holders enter at 200 level. Ask before you pay.
How CCU screening works for Business Education
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | CCU invited applications for its undergraduate programmes (Myschool reprint, 18 May 2026) |
| Who could apply | UTME, Direct Entry and transfer candidates (AbsTechConnect, May 2026) |
| Portal | portal.ccu.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 according to AbsTechConnect; not confirmed by CCU |
| Test, date and format | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Other entry routes | JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms advertised for 2026/2027 |
Worked example
CCU has not published a screening test or aggregate formula, so the checks that matter are your margin over the minimum, your margin against my target, and whether your subjects fit the rule.
Take Uchenna, who scored 163 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Government, with credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Government from one WAEC sitting.
- Eligibility: 163 minus 150 = 13. He clears the minimum.
- Against my target: 163 minus 160 = 3. He is in the comfortable range.
- Subject check: Government is on JAMB’s list for the third UTME subject, and his O’level has English, Mathematics and Economics plus two others. He qualifies.
- Advice: apply on the CCU portal, upload his result to CAPS, and accept the offer quickly.
Compare Nneka, who scored 171 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce. Her score is better, but Commerce is not on the general list, and CCU has no remark that accepts it. She should ask CCU’s admissions office in writing whether it will take her, and if not, register for the 2027 UTME with Government or Geography in place of Commerce.
Admission odds and advice
- Odds are good above 150: with the right subjects, a clean O’level and an early application, Business Education at CCU should not be hard to get.
- Accreditation is in place: unlike some newer CCU courses, this one has a published NUC result (Full, 2030).
- Make CCU your first choice so CCU can propose you on CAPS.
- Remember the date: JAMB fixed 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities.
Other Business Education options near Enugu
| University | Minimum UTME score (2026/2027) | Note |
|---|---|---|
| ESUT | 160 | Faculty of Education in ESUT’s 160 band (notice of 4 July 2026) |
| UNN | 160 to screen | UNN’s general screening minimum (notice of 13 July 2026) |
| Gregory University, Uturu | 150 floor | See our Gregory Business Education guide |
| CCU | 150 | No published departmental figure |
If your score is 160 or more, ESUT and UNN are cheaper public options worth trying first. Between 150 and 159, CCU is one of the few universities in Enugu that can still take you this cycle.
How to apply for Business Education at CCU, step by step
- Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to it.
- UTME registration: choose Coal City University and “Business Education”, with English, Mathematics, Economics and one of the six listed subjects.
- O’level on CAPS: upload your result at a JAMB-accredited centre once it is out.
- CCU application: apply at portal.ccu.edu.ng, pay the fee the portal shows and keep your printout.
- Screening: watch the portal and ccu.edu.ng for any screening date, since none has been published.
- Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. See our JAMB CAPS guide.
- Acceptance fee: CCU has not published its acceptance or school fees in any source I could open. Pay only what the portal invoice shows.
Warning
Some forum and classified posts advertise “CCU forms” with private phone numbers. CCU’s application runs on portal.ccu.edu.ng, and every genuine admission shows on JAMB CAPS. JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Do not pay anyone who promises a slot.
Studying Business Education at CCU
CCU’s Faculty of Education page, last updated on 1 February 2024, places Business Education in the Department of Education Foundation, alongside Educational Management and Guidance and Counselling combinations and education pairings with Economics, Social Studies, Political Science and English. All are listed as B.Ed. degrees. The page names Professor Rev. Fr. Augustine Akubue as Dean; that may have changed since the page was last updated.
Accreditation
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) lists CCU Business Education with an Interim result followed by Full, and a maturity date of 2030. Full accreditation lasts five years, so the next NUC visit should not be due before then.
What you study
CCU has not put its curriculum online. A B.Ed. Business Education in Nigeria usually takes four years and mixes three strands:
- Business content: financial accounting, office technology and management, marketing, business law, economics and entrepreneurship.
- Education courses: philosophy and psychology of education, curriculum, teaching methods, measurement and evaluation.
- Practice: teaching practice in secondary schools, SIWES or industrial attachment in some programmes, and a final-year project.
Careers
Graduates teach business studies, commerce, accounting and office practice in secondary schools and technical colleges, and many work in banking, administration and their own businesses. To teach in Nigeria you register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) after graduation.

Mistakes that cost Business Education applicants a CCU place
- Commerce or Accounts as the third UTME subject: not on JAMB’s general list.
- No Economics credit: Economics is named in both the UTME and the O’level rule.
- O’level not uploaded: CCU cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Ignoring a CAPS offer: an offer not accepted within four weeks can lapse.
- Paying agents: use the CCU portal only.
