UNN Cut-Off Mark for Geoinformatics and Surveying 2027/2028: Admission Requirements

UNN needs 160 in the UTME to screen for Geoinformatics and Surveying in 2027/2028 and has published no departmental cut-off. See the subject combination, O’level, Direct Entry routes, an aggregate example and the score to aim for.

The UNN cut off mark for Geoinformatics and Surveying for 2026/2027 is 160 in the UTME, the minimum to apply for screening with UNN as your first choice. The University of Nigeria set that figure in its 2026/2027 screening notice of 13 July 2026. UNN has not published a departmental merit or catchment cut-off for Geoinformatics and Surveying for 2026/2027 or 2025/2026, so be wary of any site that prints one as official.

2027/2028 update: UNN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

You will also see 200, which Vanguard reported as the minimum UNN declared at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026. UNN still took screening applications from 160, but 200 is its stated benchmark, and the actual line for this course is set by ranking. Below you will find UNN’s own subject rule for the course, Direct Entry routes, how screening ran, an aggregate example, merit and catchment, and the score I would aim for.

I found no blog estimate for this course at UNN worth repeating, which is a fair sign that anyone quoting a precise “departmental cut-off” is guessing. Cut-offs also move every year with applicant numbers and the places the department has.

JAMB subject combination for Geoinformatics and Surveying at UNN

Surveying is a measurement science, so Mathematics and Physics are the two subjects you cannot do without. UNN’s remark in the JAMB brochure keeps it simple: Mathematics, Physics and one other subject, alongside Use of English. The general brochure entry for Surveying and Geo-Informatics lists Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics as the third subject, so pick one of those to stay safe on both rules.

RequirementWhat you need for Geoinformatics and Surveying at UNN
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, plus one other subject
Safest UTME combinationUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry or Geography
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics (two more from relevant subjects such as Chemistry, Geography, Technical Drawing or Further Mathematics)
Direct Entry (into year two)A’level passes in Mathematics and Physics or equivalents; or an upper credit ND in Surveying from an NBTE-accredited institution; or a first degree in the Physical Sciences or Engineering
Minimum UTME to apply160, with UNN as first choice

The O’level rule appears in both the department’s own admission section on unn.edu.ng and UNN’s remark in Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure. The general brochure entry also asks for Chemistry among the O’level credits, so a credit in Chemistry is a sensible extra even though UNN’s remark only names English, Mathematics and Physics. Direct Entry students join in year two and may be asked to take make-up courses.

I could not open JAMB’s own IBASS brochure from here, so check the combination on your JAMB profile before you register.

A quick O’level check before you apply

  • English Language: credit (C6 or better).
  • Mathematics: credit, and the stronger the better.
  • Physics: credit.
  • Two more credits, ideally Chemistry plus Geography, Technical Drawing or Further Mathematics.
  • Names on WAEC or NECO must match your JAMB record exactly.

UNN screening for 2027/2028: what Geoinformatics and Surveying candidates had to do

UNN did not run a written post-UTME test for 2026/2027. The Registrar’s notice of 13 July 2026 described an online screening registration only, with no test date and no exam format. If a website is selling you “UNN post-UTME past questions for 2026/2027” as preparation for Geoinformatics and Surveying, know that the official notice did not mention any paper.

Detail2026/2027 screening

The portal route was unn.edu.ng, then UNN Portal at the top right (unnportal.unn.edu.ng), then Prospective Students and the 2026/2027 screening form. You entered your JAMB registration number, generated and paid the invoice, came back to fill personal and O’level details (including centre and exam numbers), uploaded your documents, reviewed, submitted and printed the acknowledgement slip. The notice warned that date of birth cannot be changed after submission.

The window is closed. If you did not register by 5 August 2026, UNN cannot consider you for 2026/2027, whatever your score.

How UNN ranks Geoinformatics and Surveying candidates (aggregate example)

UNN has not published its aggregate formula. Neither the 2026/2027 screening notice nor the 2025/2026 advert notice gives weights or grade points. The 2025/2026 advert notice did refer to a separate screening score with a 160 threshold, but it did not say how that score is worked out.

Several Nigerian education blogs describe the same method, and it is the one you will see most often: 60% of your UTME score plus 40% of an O’level score built from four relevant subjects, where A1 = 100, B2 = 90, B3 = 80, C4 = 70, C5 = 60 and C6 = 50. Treat the example below as an illustration of that blog method. It is not an official UNN formula.

StepWorking
UTME score215
O’level: English LanguageC4 = 70
O’level: MathematicsB2 = 90
O’level: PhysicsB3 = 80
O’level: ChemistryC5 = 60
O’level total (out of 400)300
60% of UTME215 × 0.6 = 129
40% of O’level300 × 0.4 = 120
Aggregate (out of 400)129 + 120 = 249

That candidate lands on 249 out of 400 on the blog method. Raising Physics from B3 to A1 adds 20 O’level points, which is 8 aggregate points, worth about 13 UTME marks. UNN has not said which four subjects it counts, so use this only to see how your grades move your position.

Merit, catchment and ELDS for Geoinformatics and Surveying at UNN

UNN is a federal university, so it works under the federal admission guideline that is widely reported as 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% educationally less developed states (ELDS). UNN has not published its own split for any course, so read that as the national policy rather than a UNN figure.

  • Merit: the top scorers in the course, from any state, fill this list first. It is where the highest cut-off sits.
  • Catchment: UNN has not published its catchment list. It is generally understood to be the South-East states; confirm on JAMB CAPS or with the UNN admissions office before you count on it.
  • ELDS: this is a federal designation. UNN does not publish its own ELDS list, and I would not rely on any blog that names states “for UNN”.
  • State of origin: the state on your JAMB profile is what counts, and UNN asks for an LGA identification letter as proof during screening.

Geoinformatics and Surveying is a smaller department with fewer applicants than courses like Civil Engineering, so catchment and good O’level grades can carry a candidate who is a little under the merit line. UNN has not said how many places the course has for 2026/2027.

What score should you aim for in Geoinformatics and Surveying at UNN?

My advice (not a UNN figure): aim for 200 or more in the UTME, and 215 or more if your O’level grades are weak or you are applying from outside the South-East. A score at or above UNN’s declared 200 benchmark, with good credits in Mathematics and Physics, gives you a fair chance in a course this size.

Your UTME scoreMy reading for Geoinformatics and Surveying at UNN
Below 160Not eligible for UNN screening
160 to 199Eligible to apply, but below UNN’s declared 200; keep a backup plan
200 to 214A fair chance, better with strong Mathematics and Physics grades
215 to 229A good position for most candidates
230 and aboveStrong position on merit

Warning

JAMB’s 2026 policy gives candidates four weeks to accept an admission offer on CAPS. An offer left unaccepted after that can be withdrawn and given to someone else, so check CAPS every few days once UNN starts releasing lists.

  1. Get or recover your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example, NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with your profile code, which you need for registration and other JAMB services.
  2. Make UNN your first choice: UNN screens only candidates who chose it first. If you are planning for 2027, pick UNN and Geoinformatics and Surveying at registration so you do not pay for a change of institution later.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result has to show on your JAMB profile. For 2026/2027 UNN asked for the upload to CAPS and the UNN portal by 5 August 2026. A JAMB-accredited CBT centre can do the CAPS upload for you.
  4. Register for UNN screening: when the next notice comes out, fill the form on unnportal.unn.edu.ng, pay through Remita and print your acknowledgement slip.
  5. Check CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, click Check Admission Status, then Access My CAPS and Admission Status. On a phone, switch your browser to desktop view first.
  6. Accept or reject: read the course name carefully, then click Accept. If you see a Transfer Approval, UNN is offering you a different course, and you must respond to that before anything else.
  7. Print your JAMB admission letter and pay acceptance: after CAPS, pay UNN’s acceptance fee on the UNN portal. Blogs report it as ₦25,000, but I found no official 2026/2027 figure, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay.
  8. Clearance: follow your faculty’s clearance instructions with your original documents. Nobody can “secure” a place for you on CAPS for money.

UNN’s homepage already carries 2026/2027 notices for its primary admission list, its Direct Entry list and lists for candidates with disabilities and foreign candidates, and Myschool reported on 25 October 2026 that the list is checkable on CAPS. JAMB also told public universities to conclude 2026 admissions by 31 October 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status message you may see.

Studying Geoinformatics and Surveying at UNN

UNN describes this as one of the earliest departments established in the university. In April 2016, ThisDay reported a reunion of its graduates to mark the department’s 55th anniversary. It is one of four departments in the Faculty of Environmental Studies, alongside Architecture, Estate Management and Urban and Regional Planning, and it teaches service courses to all three. The faculty runs on UNN’s Enugu Campus.

The B.Sc. takes five years. UNN says the programme is designed to meet the standards of the Surveyors Council of Nigeria (SURCON) and the National Universities Commission. It draws on Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental Studies and Law.

AreaWhat it is about
Land and mining surveyingMeasuring and fixing boundaries, sites and mine workings
GeodesyThe size and shape of the earth and accurate positioning
Photogrammetry and remote sensingMeasuring and mapping from aerial photos and satellite images
Cartography and GISMaking maps and managing location data
Hydrography and oceanographySurveying rivers, coasts and the sea bed
NavigationPositioning for ships, aircraft and vehicles

UNN lists the jobs its graduates go into: mapping firms in Nigeria and abroad, government ministries and parastatals, oil prospecting and engineering companies, private surveying firms, research institutes, polytechnics and universities. Many go on to work for themselves after registering with SURCON, which is the route to practising as a surveyor in Nigeria.

Related UNN courses: UNN Estate Management, UNN Urban and Regional Planning, UNN Civil Engineering and UNN Geology.

Common mistakes Geoinformatics and Surveying applicants make

  • No Physics: it is required in the UTME and as an O’level credit.
  • A pass in O’level Mathematics: UNN needs a credit, and the course is heavy on calculation.
  • Assuming the course is Geography: it is a measurement and mapping science closer to engineering.
  • Choosing UNN second: UNN screens first-choice candidates only.
  • Not uploading O’level to CAPS: CAPS cannot process your admission without it.
