Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic admission requirements for the National Diploma are a UTME score of at least 100, JAMB’s minimum for polytechnics in 2026/2027, plus the right UTME subjects and five O’level credits including English Language and Mathematics. The school has published no cut-off of its own. JAMB’s course list for it has six ND courses; NBTE’s 2025 Directory lists twelve, so for the other six you must confirm the course on JAMB CAPS before you choose it.
2027/2028 update: Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Ibom Metropolitan is a private polytechnic founded in 2014 by Dr Victor E. U. Utong. Its website says it received NBTE accreditation in 2021, held its first matriculation on 22 April 2022 and has a City and Guilds affiliation, under the slogan “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications”. The location wording differs by source: JAMB’s list says Atan Offot, Uyo; the school says it is behind the State Secretariat in Uyo; NBTE’s 2025 Directory heads its entry Oruk-Anam. It is a different school from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

Ibom Metropolitan Poly courses: JAMB list and NBTE status

| Estate Management and Valuation | No: confirm on CAPS | Accredited (first granted 2023; 2025 accreditation, expires 1 October 2030) | Guide |

| Tourism Management Technology | Yes | Interim approval (2024), expired 1 October 2026; renewal not confirmed | Guide |
Three lines need attention. ND Computer Science is printed as Interim with an expiry of 1 October 2024, while every other course the school started in 2021 is accredited to 2028; that may be a printing error, so ask for the NBTE letter. ND Tourism Management Technology and ND Hospitality Management Technology had interim approval that expired on 1 October 2026, and I found no renewal. Mass Communication has interim approval to 2027 but is not on JAMB’s list for the school.
The four NBTE-accredited courses missing from JAMB’s list (Business Administration and Management, Public Administration, Estate Management and Valuation, and Science Laboratory Technology) may simply be newer than the list reprint. Check each one under the school during UTME registration.

HND admission is outside the UTME and CAPS: you apply to the polytechnic with your ND result and proof of industrial attachment. Under the standard NBTE rule you need an ND of at least Lower Credit.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off mark

| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Ibom Metropolitan figure for any course | No published figure found |
These targets are my own advice for 2027, based on how small private polytechnics usually fill their classes:
| Course | Legal minimum | My safe target for 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Accountancy | 100 | 120 or more |
| Business Administration and Management | 100 | 115 or more |
| Public Administration | 100 | 110 or more |
| Computer Engineering Technology | 100 | 130 or more |

| Statistics | 100 | 115 or more |
| Science Laboratory Technology | 100 | 120 or more |
| Hospitality Management Technology | 100 | 110 or more |
| Tourism Management Technology | 100 | 110 or more |
UTME subjects and O’level for each course
These are the JAMB polytechnic brochure base rules as reprinted by Myschool; I found no Ibom Metropolitan remark. Use of English is compulsory and not repeated in the table.
| Course | UTME subjects besides Use of English | O’level credits (five in all) |
|---|---|---|
| Accountancy | Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and Economics | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Economics, Principles of Accounts and Commerce |
| Business Administration and Management | Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and Economics | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Economics, Commerce and Principles of Accounts |
| Public Administration | Government, History and Economics (JAMB polytechnic brochure base line) | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Government or History, Economics and Commerce |
| Computer Engineering Technology | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language plus one technical or science subject |
| Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus two from the technical list (get English as one) |
| Mass Communication | any three from Arts, Social Science or Physical Science subjects | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Literature, Government and Economics |
| Estate Management and Valuation | Mathematics and any two of Economics, Arts, Physics, Chemistry and Biology | Mathematics, English Language and a basic science plus two such as Economics and Geography |
| Computer Science | Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry | Mathematics, English Language and Physics plus two others such as Chemistry and Economics |
| Statistics | Mathematics and two of Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography or Biology/Agricultural Science (JAMB page did not load; pattern from Federal Polytechnics Offa and Nekede) | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Physics, Economics and Geography |
| Science Laboratory Technology | Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics, as the brochure reprint prints it | Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language and Mathematics |
| Hospitality Management Technology | Biology or Agricultural Science and two of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics | Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, English Language and Mathematics plus one more |
| Tourism Management Technology | JAMB page loaded empty; Mathematics, Geography and Economics fits most polytechnic remarks | English Language and Mathematics, two social subjects such as Geography and Economics, and one science |
Four points catch candidates out. Public Administration’s UTME base line is Government, History and Economics, with no Mathematics. Computer Science treats Physics as optional in the UTME but compulsory at O’level. SLT’s printed UTME line leaves out Chemistry, though Chemistry is compulsory at O’level. For Statistics and Tourism the JAMB pages did not load, so check the line on JAMB’s e-brochure during registration.
How to apply to Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick your course and choose Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Atan Offot as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
- Contact the school: visit the campus in Uyo or use the contacts on its website, confirm your course is admitting, buy the form only from the school and keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.
The school does not publish a form price, screening dates or test format. Ask whether there is a written test, what the acceptance and first-year fees are, what the City and Guilds certificate costs, and whether there is a hostel.
Warning
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic and Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua are different schools. Check the name on your JAMB registration, buy forms only from the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.
My advice
- The safest choices are the JAMB-listed courses with full NBTE accreditation: Accountancy, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic and Statistics, all accredited to 2028.
- For Business Administration, Public Administration, Estate Management or SLT, confirm the course under the school on JAMB before paying anything. NBTE accreditation to 2030 is a good sign.
- Before choosing Computer Science, Tourism, Hospitality or Mass Communication, get the school’s current NBTE letter in writing.
- Rent and transport in Uyo cost more than in smaller towns, so budget for them if you are not from the city.
