The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Computer Science is 100 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics in 2026/2027. Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has not published a separate cut-off for ND Computer Science, and I found no departmental figure for any year. The school’s website gives no admission details, so the JAMB floor is the figure to work with.
2027/2028 update: Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a private polytechnic founded in 2014 by Dr Victor E. U. Utong. JAMB’s list places it at Atan Offot, Uyo, and the school describes its site as behind the State Secretariat in Uyo, while NBTE’s 2025 Directory heads its entry “Oruk-Anam”. Computer Science is on JAMB’s course list for the school (as “Computer Science”), and its line in NBTE’s 2025 Directory reads: Printed as “Interim” with expiry 1 October 2024 (first granted 2021, 2023 visit); see the note on this page.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly Computer Science cut off mark at a glance
| Item | Position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum UTME score | 100 | JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics, 2026/2027 |
| Ibom Metropolitan Poly figure for Computer Science | Not published | No school or departmental figure found |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry | JAMB polytechnic brochure |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus course subjects | Details below |
| On JAMB’s course list for the school | Yes, as “Computer Science” | Confirm on CAPS or the e-brochure |
| NBTE status (2025 Directory) | Printed as “Interim” with expiry 1 October 2024 (first granted 2021, 2023 visit); see the note on this page | NBTE 25th Edition Directory |
| Duration | Two years full-time plus SIWES | Standard NBTE pattern |
| JAMB deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, reported by NAN) |
One thing on the NBTE line needs explaining. Every other course Ibom Metropolitan started in 2021 (Accountancy, Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic and Statistics) is printed as accredited after a 2023 visit, to 2028. Computer Science alone is printed as “Interim” with an expiry of 1 October 2024. That could be a printing error or a course that missed full accreditation. Ask the school for the NBTE letter on ND Computer Science before you pay acceptance.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Computer Science: the figures
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Ibom Metropolitan Poly figure for Computer Science | No published figure found |
JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years running, and Ibom Metropolitan has not announced a higher figure for any course. A polytechnic may set a higher mark for itself or for a busy course, so treat 100 as the legal minimum and aim higher if you can.
Safe target score (my advice)
For 2027 I would aim for 130 or more in the UTME for Computer Science at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. That is my own target, based on how small private polytechnics in Akwa Ibom usually fill their classes; the school publishes no merit list or applicant numbers. If you land between 100 and 130 you can still apply, and your O’level grades and screening will carry more weight.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly Computer Science subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | ND Computer Science |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry |
| My suggested UTME combination | English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, or English, Mathematics, Physics and Economics |
| O’level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) | Mathematics, a basic science and three others from Economics, Geography, Government or History, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, English Language and Typewriting. English Language and Physics credits are compulsory |
| Sittings | Two sittings at most under the standard NBTE rule; the school has not published its own |
| Ibom Metropolitan Poly remark in the brochure | None found; the base rule applies |
| Interview or practical | None published |
Physics is optional in the UTME for polytechnic Computer Science: after Mathematics you choose any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry. Biology and Further Mathematics are not on the list, which catches out many science students.
The O’level rule then makes Physics compulsory, along with English Language and Mathematics. So a candidate who wrote the UTME with Economics and Geography can still qualify, but only with a Physics credit in WAEC or NECO. I would take Physics in the UTME anyway; it keeps both rules in line and you will need it in ND1.
Direct Entry and HND
ND entry is through the UTME; there is no Direct Entry route into ND1. After the ND and industrial attachment you can apply for HND Computer Science or a related HND, or try direct entry into a degree where a university accepts ND holders. NBTE lists HND Networking and Cloud Computing and HND Software and Web Development at the school on interim approval to 1 October 2027, but no HND Computer Science.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly screening and how selection works
Ibom Metropolitan has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice, form price or test format that I could find, and its website carries no admission page. Private polytechnics of its size usually sell forms at the admissions office or on a portal, check documents, and may hold a short test or interview. Ask the office these questions:
- Is ND Computer Science admitting full-time students for 2027/2028, and is it listed for the school on JAMB CAPS?
- What is the current NBTE accreditation status of the course?
- How much is the form, where do I pay, and what is the closing date?
- Is there a written test, and on which subjects?
- What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and is there a hostel?
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Mfon, who wants Computer Science at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. Mfon scored 136 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and has English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Civic Education in one WAEC sitting.
- JAMB minimum: 136 is 36 above 100, so Mfon is eligible.
- My safe target: 136 clears my 130 line for Computer Science.
- UTME subjects: Physics and Chemistry are both on the list of four, with Mathematics fixed.
- O’level: English, Mathematics and Physics are all credits, and Chemistry and Biology complete the five.
- School listing: before paying for anything, Mfon checks that Ibom Metropolitan Poly shows Computer Science on the JAMB portal.
If the school used a 50:50 aggregate, 136 divided by 8 gives 17 out of 50, and 30 out of 50 at screening would bring the total to 47. That formula is only an illustration. Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published one, and small private polytechnics often admit every candidate who meets the rules.
How to apply for Computer Science at Ibom Metropolitan Poly, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: use English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, and choose Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Atan Offot as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
- Contact the school: visit Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic in Uyo or use the contacts on its website, confirm the course is admitting, and buy the form only from the school. Keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.
Warning
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a different school from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua. Check the name on your JAMB registration, buy forms only from the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.
Your chances and my advice
- You can pick Computer Science under Ibom Metropolitan when you register, which removes the biggest risk with small private polytechnics.
- Get the NBTE position in writing before you pay acceptance; the 2025 Directory line for this course does not show current full accreditation.
- The school advertises a City and Guilds affiliation under the slogan “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications”. Ask what the extra certificate costs and whether it is optional.
- Living in Uyo costs more than in smaller towns, so price rent and transport into your plan if you are not from the city.
- JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should keep checking CAPS until then.
What you study in ND Computer Science
ND Computer Science takes two years with a SIWES placement. The focus is software: programming, databases, systems analysis and web development, with enough hardware and networking to support a small office. It is one of the most requested ND courses in Akwa Ibom.
| Area | Typical topics |
|---|---|
| Programming | Introduction to programming, structured and object-oriented programming |
| Data | File organisation, database design and management |
| Systems | Systems analysis and design, operating systems |
| Web and networks | Web design, data communication and networking |
| Supporting courses | Mathematics for computing, statistics, computer hardware, communication |
Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published its own course outline, so the table follows NBTE’s usual ND pattern. Typical first jobs with the ND include junior software or web developer, IT support officer, database or data entry officer, computer centre operator, or freelance web work.
Accreditation
NBTE’s 25th Edition Directory of Accredited Programmes (2025) prints ND Computer Science at Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic as Interim, first granted 2021 with a 2023 visit, expiring 1 October 2024. The school says on its website that it received NBTE accreditation in 2021 and held its first matriculation on 22 April 2022. NBTE lists HND Networking and Cloud Computing and HND Software and Web Development at the school on interim approval to 1 October 2027, but no HND Computer Science.
