If you are searching for the NBU Information Systems cut off mark for 2027, the short answer is that Nigerian British University, Asa (NBU) is not currently admitting into a course called Information Systems. Its 2026/2027 undergraduate admission page lists 18 courses, and Information Systems is not one of them. The computing courses it does list, Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Data Science, all have a minimum of 160 in the UTME.
2027/2028 update: NBU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
So there is no NBU cut-off for Information Systems to plan with. If what you want is a degree about how organisations use computers and data, the closest course NBU advertises is Information Technology, at 160. This page sets out the evidence, compares the NBU options, and gives the requirements and steps for applying to them.
Does NBU offer Information Systems?
Not according to NBU’s own admission page for 2026/2027. Here is what each source says:
| Source | Information Systems listed? | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| NBU undergraduate admission page, 2026/2027 | No | Lists 18 courses by minimum score; computing courses are Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Data Science |
| Wikipedia article on NBU (programme list by faculty) | No | Same five computing departments |
| AbsTechConnect blog post on NBU post-UTME, May 2026 | Yes | Unofficial; gives no fee, date or source for its list |
| JAMB course list for NBU | Could not be checked | I could not open a reprint of JAMB’s NBU list |
The blog listing is the only place I found Information Systems tied to NBU, and it conflicts with the university’s own page. Blogs often copy course lists from older adverts or from other universities. Until NBU lists the course itself, do not choose “Information Systems” for NBU on your JAMB form or on the NBU portal: NBU says the course on CAPS must match the course you apply for, and an application for a course it does not run cannot match anything.
NBU computing courses and their cut-off marks
| Course at NBU | Minimum UTME (2026/2027) | Faculty |
|---|---|---|
| Information Technology | 160 | Computing and Information Technology |
| Computer Science | 160 | Computing and Information Technology |
| Software Engineering | 160 | Computing and Information Technology |
| Cyber Security | 160 | Computing and Information Technology |
| Data Science | 160 | Computing and Information Technology |
| Computer Engineering (B.Eng.) | 160 | Engineering |
| Information and Communication Engineering (B.Eng.) | 160 | Engineering |
All seven sit in NBU’s 160 band, which is also the lowest score NBU accepts for any course. JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027 is 150, so NBU asks for 10 marks more. NBU is not on News Central’s list of institution cut-offs declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting; the 160 is from its own page.
Nigerian British University (NBU) is a private university at Km 10 Port Harcourt/Aba Expressway, Asa, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State. It is owned by the Adorable Foundation for Educational Development, received NUC approval in April 2022 and was commissioned in February 2023. Its 2026/2027 admission page groups courses into five units: the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology, the College of Health Sciences, the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Engineering.
Information Systems, Information Technology or Computer Science: which NBU course fits you?
Information Systems, where universities offer it, usually sits between computing and management: databases, systems analysis, business processes, project management and how organisations choose and run software. NBU’s nearest equivalents split that ground in different ways.
| If you want to | Closest NBU course | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Run and support an organisation’s computers, networks and databases | Information Technology | IT degrees focus on applying and managing technology, the side of Information Systems most employers hire for |
| Understand computing theory and programming deeply | Computer Science | More mathematics, algorithms and programming than an Information Systems degree |
| Build software products | Software Engineering | Design, testing and management of software projects |
| Work with data and analytics | Data Science | Statistics, machine learning and data handling; the analytics side of Information Systems |
| Protect systems and networks | Cyber Security | Security of systems, networks and data |
My advice: if Information Systems was your first idea because of its business angle, pick Information Technology at NBU, and use your electives and projects for databases and systems analysis. If you chose it because it looked easier than Computer Science, check the mathematics in the programme you pick; all of these courses involve it.
Safe target score for NBU computing courses (my advice)
| Your UTME score | My read for NBU Information Technology and other 160 courses |
|---|---|
| Below 160 | Not eligible for any NBU course this cycle |
| 160 to 174 | Eligible; O’level and screening decide |
| 175 to 199 | Good chance |
| 200 and above | Strong |
These bands are my judgement; NBU publishes no applicant numbers. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 175 or more.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for NBU computing courses
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Course name to select on JAMB | The NBU course you choose, for example Information Technology or Computer Science (confirm it appears under NBU) | NBU page; JAMB list not checked |
| UTME (Computer Science) | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography | JAMB brochure, Myschool reprint (checked 29 October 2026 for another of our posts) |
| UTME (Information Technology and the other computing courses) | JAMB’s usual line is Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and one other science; confirm the exact line on the JAMB e-brochure | Not verified course by course |
| O’level (JAMB, Computer Science) | Five credits including English, Mathematics and Physics plus two other science subjects | JAMB brochure, Myschool reprint |
| O’level (NBU rule) | At least five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, in not more than two sittings | NBU admission page |
| Direct Entry (NBU) | A-level, OND, HND or first degree; transcripts to the Registrar early (1 September 2026 for 2026/2027) | NBU admission page |
For any NBU computing course, register Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. That set fits every line above and keeps Computer Engineering open too. Make sure your O’level has credits in English, Mathematics and Physics, plus at least two more sciences, in not more than two sittings.
How NBU admits computing candidates
NBU’s 2026/2027 page describes a short process. You apply on the NBU application portal (application.nbu.edu.ng), upload every document it asks for, and make sure your details on JAMB CAPS match what you enter on the portal, including the course. The page says candidates who miss any of these will not be considered.
Applications for 2026/2027 close on Friday, 30 November 2026, and a candidate who did not pick NBU first must change to NBU on CAPS by the same date. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, so the two line up. NBU also asks that candidates be at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.
The page does not describe a post-UTME test, an interview, a screening date or a form price, and I found no official NBU notice with an aggregate formula. A 2026 blog said NBU post-UTME forms were on sale but gave no fee or date. So plan for some form of screening and ask the admissions office (admissions@nbu.edu.ng) what it involves before you travel.
Documents to have ready
NBU’s page asks you to upload all required documents but does not list them. Based on what Nigerian universities normally ask for, have these scanned and ready:
- Your JAMB UTME result slip and admission letter printout from CAPS when it comes
- Your O’level result or results (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), not more than two sittings, showing credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and two other sciences
- Birth certificate or age declaration (NBU’s minimum age is 16 by 30 September of the admission year)
- Local government identification and passport photographs
- Your change of institution printout, if NBU was not your original choice
Worked example (illustrative only)
NBU publishes no aggregate formula. The 50:50 method in the last case (UTME divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage) is my illustration.
- Somto: registered “Information Systems” for NBU after reading a blog. Her 190 is well above 160, but NBU does not list the course, so she should do a change of course to Information Technology on JAMB and apply for the same course on the NBU portal.
- David: UTME 176 for Information Technology in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with five credits. Eligible and above my target.
- Ugochi: UTME 161. If NBU sets a test and she scores 60%, her illustrative aggregate is 161 divided by 8 (20.13) plus 30, which is 50.13.
How to apply for a computing course at NBU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME with NBU as your choice: pick Nigerian British University and “Information Technology”, with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to NBU.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre once your result is out. Check that the upload shows English, Mathematics, Physics and two other sciences.
- Apply on the NBU portal: start from the NBU undergraduate admission page, create your application on application.nbu.edu.ng, choose the same course you have on CAPS and upload every document.
- Confirm screening: write to admissions@nbu.edu.ng and ask whether there is a test or interview, when and where. If you registered Information Systems, ask the office to confirm in writing which course to change to.
- Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: NBU has not published an acceptance fee on the pages I could reach. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, after the offer shows on your CAPS page.
Warning
Do not pay anyone for an NBU Information Systems form or place. NBU’s own admission page does not list the course, and JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal. Fix your course choice on JAMB with a change of course before NBU’s closing date.
Changing course is done on the JAMB portal; our JAMB change of course guide walks through it.
Fees and accreditation for NBU computing courses
Legit.ng reported on 14 September 2026, citing NBU’s tuition page, that tuition for the Faculty of Computing and Information Technology is N951,540 for 2026/2027. It gave no breakdown. Confirm on NBU’s tuition page before you budget.
On the NUC side, NBU’s programmes are young, and the NUC usually sends its accreditation panel when a programme’s first students are close to final year. I could not read NBU’s entries in the NUC “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (the online text stops well before universities starting with N), and a search of NUC’s accreditation report pages found no report naming NBU and its computing programmes. A Vanguard headline from March 2025 reads “NUC accredits 24 courses for British University in Nigeria”, but I could not open the article to see which courses it covers or what kind of approval it describes. So I am treating the NUC status of its computing programmes at NBU as not confirmed.
Computer science graduates in Nigeria can register with the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), CPN. Ask the faculty whether its programmes have had an NUC visit and how its graduates register with CPN.
If you are set on Information Systems
Some Nigerian universities do run a course called Information Systems. Open the JAMB e-brochure, search for the course, and check which universities list it and with what subject line. Then compare their cut-offs with NBU’s 160 for Information Technology.

The programme cut-offs (160, 180 and 200), the application portal, the 30 November 2026 closing date, the CAPS matching rule, the O’level and Direct Entry rules and the age limit are from the NBU undergraduate admission page (2026/2027 session, checked 29 October 2026). The national minimum of 150, JAMB’s 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the four-week CAPS acceptance window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 national figure of 150 was reported by Channels TV (8 July 2025). NBU’s ownership, approval date and commissioning are from Wikipedia’s NBU article and its cited news reports. NBU’s 2026/2027 notice PDF and its programmes page could not be opened from here, and I could not open a reprint of JAMB’s course list for NBU. The list of 18 NBU courses, and the absence of Information Systems from it, is from the same NBU admission page. Wikipedia’s NBU article lists the same five computing departments. The only listing of Information Systems at NBU I found was an AbsTechConnect blog post (25 May 2026), which is unofficial. The Computer Science UTME and O’level lines are from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s brochure entry for Computer Science, as checked on 29 October 2026. The computing fee is from Legit.ng (14 September 2026), citing NBU’s tuition page. The course comparison, safe target score and worked example are my own guidance. This page will be updated if NBU adds Information Systems or publishes a 2027/2028 cut-off.
