The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Science Laboratory Technology is 100 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics in 2026/2027. Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has not published a separate cut-off for ND Science Laboratory Technology, and I found no departmental figure for any year. The school’s website gives no admission details, so the JAMB floor is the figure to work with.
2027/2028 update: Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a private polytechnic founded in 2014 by Dr Victor E. U. Utong. JAMB’s list places it at Atan Offot, Uyo, and the school describes its site as behind the State Secretariat in Uyo, while NBTE’s 2025 Directory heads its entry “Oruk-Anam”. NBTE’s 2025 Directory lists ND Science Laboratory Technology at the school (accredited (first granted 2023; 2025 accreditation, expires 1 October 2030)), but the course is not on the reprint of JAMB’s course list for Ibom Metropolitan that I checked, so you must confirm it on JAMB CAPS before you choose it.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly Science Laboratory Technology cut off mark at a glance
| Item | Position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Minimum UTME score | 100 | JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics, 2026/2027 |
| Ibom Metropolitan Poly figure for Science Laboratory Technology | Not published | No school or departmental figure found |
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus “any three of Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science or Physics” (reprint wording) | JAMB polytechnic brochure |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus course subjects | Details below |
| On JAMB’s course list for the school | Not on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB list (checked 3 November 2026) | Confirm on CAPS or the e-brochure |
| NBTE status (2025 Directory) | Accredited (first granted 2023; 2025 accreditation, expires 1 October 2030) | NBTE 25th Edition Directory |
| Duration | Two years full-time plus SIWES | Standard NBTE pattern |
| JAMB deadline for 2026/2027 polytechnic admissions | 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, reported by NAN) |
Because Science Laboratory Technology is missing from the JAMB list reprint, check during UTME registration that you can pick it under Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic. If it does not appear, the school cannot admit you into it through CAPS, and you should choose a listed course or another polytechnic.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Science Laboratory Technology: the figures
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Ibom Metropolitan Poly figure for Science Laboratory Technology | No published figure found |
JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years running, and Ibom Metropolitan has not announced a higher figure for any course. A polytechnic may set a higher mark for itself or for a busy course, so treat 100 as the legal minimum and aim higher if you can.
Safe target score (my advice)
For 2027 I would aim for 120 or more in the UTME for Science Laboratory Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. That is my own target, based on how small private polytechnics in Akwa Ibom usually fill their classes; the school publishes no merit list or applicant numbers. If you land between 100 and 120 you can still apply, and your O’level grades and screening will carry more weight.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly Science Laboratory Technology subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | ND Science Laboratory Technology |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus “any three of Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science or Physics” (reprint wording) |
| My suggested UTME combination | English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics |
| O’level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) | Five credits with Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English Language compulsory, plus Mathematics |
| Sittings | Two sittings at most under the standard NBTE rule; the school has not published its own |
| Ibom Metropolitan Poly remark in the brochure | None found; the base rule applies |
| Interview or practical | None published |
The UTME line needs a careful read. As Myschool reprints JAMB’s polytechnic brochure, the main rule names only Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science and Physics, so “any three” of those three means all three. Chemistry appears only in remarks for named polytechnics, and I found no remark for this school. That is odd for a laboratory course, and the reprint may be cut short.
Check the JAMB e-brochure for this school during registration. If it still reads the same way, English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics meets the printed rule. Do not assume Chemistry is fine because another polytechnic accepts it.
The O’level rule is stricter: credits in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English Language and Mathematics. That is all five, with no room for a weak science.
Direct Entry and HND
ND entry is through the UTME; there is no Direct Entry route into ND1. After the ND and industrial attachment you can apply for an HND option in SLT. The Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology is the profession’s regulator, so ask it about registration once you qualify. NBTE lists HND SLT (Microbiology) and HND SLT (Biochemistry) at the school on interim approval to 1 October 2027.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly screening and how selection works
Ibom Metropolitan has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice, form price or test format that I could find, and its website carries no admission page. Private polytechnics of its size usually sell forms at the admissions office or on a portal, check documents, and may hold a short test or interview. Ask the office these questions:
- Is ND Science Laboratory Technology admitting full-time students for 2027/2028, and is it listed for the school on JAMB CAPS?
- What is the current NBTE accreditation status of the course?
- How much is the form, where do I pay, and what is the closing date?
- Is there a written test, and on which subjects?
- What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and is there a hostel?
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Itoro, who wants Science Laboratory Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. Itoro scored 124 in English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics, and has English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Agricultural Science in one WAEC sitting.
- JAMB minimum: 124 is 24 above 100, so Itoro is eligible.
- My safe target: 124 clears my 120 line for Science Laboratory Technology.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics, Biology and Physics are the three subjects in the printed rule.
- O’level: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, English and Mathematics are all credits, which is exactly what the rule asks.
- School listing: before paying for anything, Itoro checks that Ibom Metropolitan Poly shows Science Laboratory Technology on the JAMB portal.
If the school used a 50:50 aggregate, 124 divided by 8 gives 15.5 out of 50, and 30 out of 50 at screening would bring the total to 45.5. That formula is only an illustration. Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published one, and small private polytechnics often admit every candidate who meets the rules.
How to apply for Science Laboratory Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Poly, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: use English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics, and choose Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Atan Offot as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
- Contact the school: visit Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic in Uyo or use the contacts on its website, confirm the course is admitting, and buy the form only from the school. Keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.
Warning
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a different school from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua. Check the name on your JAMB registration, buy forms only from the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.
Your chances and my advice
- Your first job is confirming that Science Laboratory Technology shows under the school on the JAMB portal. Without that, nothing else on this page helps.
- NBTE accreditation runs to 1 October 2030, which covers a two-year ND that starts in 2027/2028.
- The school advertises a City and Guilds affiliation under the slogan “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications”. Ask what the extra certificate costs and whether it is optional.
- Living in Uyo costs more than in smaller towns, so price rent and transport into your plan if you are not from the city.
- JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should keep checking CAPS until then.
What you study in ND Science Laboratory Technology
ND Science Laboratory Technology takes two years with a SIWES placement. ND1 is a common year of biology, chemistry and physics laboratory work; the HND then splits into options such as Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry and Physics. You learn to prepare samples and reagents, run standard tests, and keep a laboratory safe.
| Area | Typical topics |
|---|---|
| Laboratory practice | Laboratory techniques, safety, glassware and instrument handling |
| Chemistry | Inorganic, organic and physical chemistry, analytical methods |
| Biology | General biology, microbiology, cell biology |
| Physics | General physics, electronics for laboratories, instrumentation |
| Supporting courses | Mathematics, statistics, computer applications, communication |
Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published its own course outline, so the table follows NBTE’s usual ND pattern. Typical first jobs with the ND include laboratory assistant in schools, hospitals and industry, quality control assistant in water, food and drink factories, or research laboratory technician.
Accreditation
NBTE’s 25th Edition Directory of Accredited Programmes (2025) lists ND Science Laboratory Technology at Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic as: Accredited (first granted 2023; 2025 accreditation, expires 1 October 2030). The school says on its website that it received NBTE accreditation in 2021 and held its first matriculation on 22 April 2022. NBTE lists HND SLT (Microbiology) and HND SLT (Biochemistry) at the school on interim approval to 1 October 2027.
