The Ritman University Sociology cut off mark for 2027/2028 is, in practice, the JAMB national minimum of 150 for universities. Ritman University, a private university in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, has not published a separate cut-off for Sociology: Ritman’s admissions page does not print a number. It only asks candidates to meet the UTME cut-off for their chosen course. Sociology is one of Ritman’s original social science programmes and holds Full NUC accreditation.
2027/2028 update: Ritman cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Below are the official position, a safe target score, JAMB’s subject lines, Ritman’s CBT screening with a worked example, the CAPS steps and where the degree leads.
Ritman University Sociology cut off mark 2027/2028 at a glance
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| Ritman’s own cut-off for Sociology | Not published | Ritman admissions page (checked 3 November 2026) |
| JAMB minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| Safe target score | 155 to 175 | My advice, not a Ritman rule |
| Course name on JAMB’s list for Ritman | Sociology | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list |
| Course name on Ritman’s own list | B.Sc. Sociology | Ritman’s admission notice of 21 October 2025 |
| UTME subjects | Three Social Science or Arts subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint); no Ritman remark |
| Screening | CBT | Ritman admissions page |
| NUC status | Full, due 2028 | NUC accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 |
| 2026/2027 admission deadline (private universities) | 30 November 2026 | JAMB, via NAN (11 May 2026) |
Is Sociology on JAMB’s list for Ritman?
Yes. JAMB’s course list for Ritman (Myschool reprint, 19 courses) includes Sociology, and Ritman’s own admission notice of 21 October 2025 lists B.Sc. Sociology among its 40 NUC-approved undergraduate programmes. That means you can choose the course on your JAMB profile and Ritman can offer it to you on CAPS.
Ritman grew quickly in 2025 and 2026. Its news post of 6 October 2026 says NUC approved 22 new programmes, taking it to 40 programmes in six faculties. Several older courses were renamed or split along the way (Biology, Physics, Management and Industrial Relations among them), but Sociology kept its place, so the path for this course is simple.
Ritman Sociology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | Not published | Ritman figure for Sociology | Admissions page asks only for the course cut-off |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Ritman minimum as summarised by a blog | Unofficial (Myschoolgist); no Ritman document cited |
Ritman’s admissions page still says, in its JUPEB section, that JUPEB suits candidates who scored below 140. That figure is an older JAMB floor. For 2026 JAMB set 150 as the minimum for universities, so I would not plan with 140 for Sociology or any other Ritman course.
Safe target score for Sociology at Ritman (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. Ritman University does not publish merit lists or the lowest score it admitted, so the bands below are planning ranges.
| Your UTME score | My read for Sociology at Ritman |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for a university this session |
| 150 to 154 | Eligible. Admission is possible at a private university, but you have no margin |
| 155 to 174 | Comfortable for Sociology at Ritman |
| 175 and above | Strong. You can also keep a federal or state university option open |
Sociology is less crowded than Mass Communication or Political Science at most schools. For 2027 I would aim for 155 or more, ideally 175.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Sociology at Ritman
| Requirement | Sociology at Ritman |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB brochure) | Use of English plus three Social Science or Arts subjects |
| O’level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits in Government or History, English Language and three other subjects; JAMB adds that a pass in Mathematics is required |
| Ritman’s own O’level rule | Five credits in WAEC, NECO or GCE, including English Language and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings (Ritman admissions page) |
| Special Ritman remark on JAMB’s page | None listed |
| Awaiting result | Ritman has not published a rule; upload results to CAPS as soon as they are out |
JAMB’s line is broad, but the O’level line names Government or History. Ritman’s own rule asks for a Mathematics credit for every course, which is stricter than JAMB’s pass, so plan for a credit.
Government, Economics and CRS or Literature is a common and safe UTME set.
Direct Entry into Sociology
JAMB’s brochure line for Direct Entry: two A-level passes including Government or History. Ritman’s own rule: five O’level credits including English and Mathematics (two sittings at most), plus OND, NCE, IJMB or A-level for 200 level entry (Ritman admissions page). Register Direct Entry with JAMB, not only on the Ritman portal; a DE offer still has to appear on CAPS.
How Ritman screening works for Sociology
Ritman screens UTME and Direct Entry candidates with a computer-based test (CBT). Candidates apply online at applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity, sit the test, and those offered admission then go through an ICT training and orientation programme. The admissions page warns that false entries on the online form can lead to disqualification. Ritman has not published the CBT’s subjects, length or pass mark.
A 2025/2026 blog summary (Myschoolgist) said the form and screening cost ₦10,000 and that candidates brought a passport photograph, their JAMB result slip and the payment evidence to an aptitude test. Ritman has not confirmed that amount on any page I could open, so confirm it on the portal before paying.
Worked example for a Sociology candidate
Ritman has not published how it weighs the UTME against its CBT. Many Nigerian universities convert both to a score out of 100 by dividing the UTME by 8 (up to 50 marks) and scaling the screening test to 50. I use that method below only as an illustration; it is not a Ritman formula.
- UTME: Nkoyo scored 163. 163 divided by 8 = 20.38 out of 50.
- CBT: suppose Nkoyo scores 64% on Ritman’s test. Half of that is 32.0 out of 50.
- Illustrative aggregate: 20.38 + 32.0 = 52.38 out of 100.
- Margin over the floor: 163 minus 150 = 13 marks above JAMB’s minimum, and 8 marks above my safe target of 155.
- What I would advise: she is above my target. Her main checks are a Government credit and a Mathematics credit.
Admission odds for Sociology at Ritman
With 155 or more, the right O’level credits and a fair CBT result, a Sociology place at Ritman is likely.
- Choose Ritman first: Ritman also accepts candidates through a JAMB change of institution, according to its October 2025 notice.
- Upload O’level early: no university can give you admission on CAPS without your results there.
- Apply before the private-university deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, so the 2026/2027 exercise runs until that date.
- Keep a second option: if you also hold a strong score, apply to a public university in the next cycle as well.
How to apply for Sociology at Ritman, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: Use of English, Government, Economics and CRS or Literature in English, with Ritman University as your first choice. Ritman also takes change of institution candidates.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. Check that the grades show correctly.
- Apply on the Ritman portal: applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity. Fill the form with the same names as on your JAMB and O’level records.
- Sit the CBT screening: bring what the portal asks for, which blogs say includes your JAMB slip and a passport photograph.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.
- Pay acceptance and register: pay only through the invoice the portal generates, then complete clearance and the ICT orientation.
Warning
Every genuine Ritman offer shows on JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who promises a Sociology place or a “slot” outside the official portal; admissions outside CAPS are illegal, as JAMB restated in May 2026.
Fees for Sociology at Ritman
Ritman’s Pay Fees page carries a revised fee schedule for the 2024/2025 session, posted as two images. I could not read the amounts from it, and no 2026/2027 schedule was published there when I checked. Ask the admissions office (info@ritmanuniversity.edu.ng, 0808 983 5170) for the current Sociology tuition before you accept an offer.
Studying Sociology at Ritman
Sociology sits in Ritman’s Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. The B.Sc. normally runs for four years in Nigeria; Ritman has not published its own duration.
About Ritman University
Ritman University is a private university on Umuahia Road, Ikot Ekpene. NUC licensed it on 5 March 2015 and teaching began in November 2015. Its vice-chancellor since 2 October 2025 is Prof. Akan B. Williams. In 2026 NUC approved 22 new programmes, taking Ritman from 3 faculties to 6 (Allied Health Sciences, Computing, Environmental Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Social and Management Sciences) and to 40 programmes in all. For a family weighing Ritman, that means a small, growing campus where many departments are new.
What you study
- Introduction to sociology and sociological theory
- Social research methods and statistics
- Sociology of the family, religion, crime and deviance
- Industrial sociology, social change and development
- Gender, population studies and a final-year project
Accreditation
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list Ritman’s Sociology as Full, with the next accreditation due in 2028.
Full accreditation means the programme met NUC’s standards at its last visit, so the degree is recognised for NYSC and further study. Programmes are re-visited when the period runs out.
Careers
Sociology graduates work in social welfare and community development, NGOs and international agencies, human resources, market and social research, the police and correctional services, and teaching. A master’s in social work, criminology or development studies is a common route.

Mistakes that cost Sociology applicants a place
- No Government or History credit: JAMB’s O’level line names one of them.
- Treating 150 as a guarantee: it only makes you eligible.
- O’level not on CAPS: without it, no offer can be made.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee, clearance and registration at Ritman are separate steps.
If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, if you chose another school, how to do a JAMB change of institution.
