The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Statistics is 100 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics in 2026/2027. Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has not published a separate cut-off for ND Statistics, and I found no departmental figure for any year. The school’s website gives no admission details, so the JAMB floor is the figure to work with.
2027/2028 update: Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a private polytechnic founded in 2014 by Dr Victor E. U. Utong. JAMB’s list places it at Atan Offot, Uyo, and the school describes its site as behind the State Secretariat in Uyo, while NBTE’s 2025 Directory heads its entry “Oruk-Anam”. Statistics is on JAMB’s course list for the school (as “Statistics”), and its line in NBTE’s 2025 Directory reads: Accredited (first granted 2021; 2023 accreditation, expires 1 October 2028).

Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Statistics: the figures
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics | Official (reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Ibom Metropolitan Poly figure for Statistics | No published figure found |
JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years running, and Ibom Metropolitan has not announced a higher figure for any course. A polytechnic may set a higher mark for itself or for a busy course, so treat 100 as the legal minimum and aim higher if you can.
Safe target score (my advice)
For 2027 I would aim for 115 or more in the UTME for Statistics at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. That is my own target, based on how small private polytechnics in Akwa Ibom usually fill their classes; the school publishes no merit list or applicant numbers. If you land between 100 and 115 you can still apply, and your O’level grades and screening will carry more weight.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly Statistics subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | ND Statistics |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and two others (JAMB brochure page did not load; see note) |
| My suggested UTME combination | English, Mathematics, Economics and Physics |
| O’level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics, plus three from Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Studies (Federal Poly Nekede pattern; Offa asks for at least one science) |
| Sittings | Two sittings at most under the standard NBTE rule; the school has not published its own |
| Ibom Metropolitan Poly remark in the brochure | None found; the base rule applies |
| Interview or practical | None published |
The Statistics page on Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s polytechnic brochure loads empty, so I cannot quote JAMB’s exact line. Two official polytechnic sources give the pattern. Federal Polytechnic Offa asks for Mathematics and any two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics or Commerce, Geography, Computer Studies, Government and Biology or Agricultural Science. Federal Polytechnic Nekede asks for Mathematics plus two of Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Biology or Agricultural Science and Geography.
English, Mathematics, Economics and Physics fits both versions, so that is my recommendation until you see the JAMB line during registration. Further Mathematics is on neither list, so do not use it as a UTME subject for this course.
Direct Entry and HND
ND entry is through the UTME; there is no Direct Entry route into ND1. After the ND and industrial attachment you can apply for HND Statistics, or take direct entry into a Statistics or Mathematics degree where accepted. NBTE lists HND Statistics at the school, but its interim approval expired on 1 October 2026, so ask about renewal.
Ibom Metropolitan Poly screening and how selection works
Ibom Metropolitan has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice, form price or test format that I could find, and its website carries no admission page. Private polytechnics of its size usually sell forms at the admissions office or on a portal, check documents, and may hold a short test or interview. Ask the office these questions:
- Is ND Statistics admitting full-time students for 2027/2028, and is it listed for the school on JAMB CAPS?
- What is the current NBTE accreditation status of the course?
- How much is the form, where do I pay, and what is the closing date?
- Is there a written test, and on which subjects?
- What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and is there a hostel?
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Edidiong, who wants Statistics at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. Edidiong scored 121 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Physics, and has English, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Geography and Biology in one NECO sitting.
- JAMB minimum: 121 is 21 above 100, so Edidiong is eligible.
- My safe target: 121 clears my 115 line for Statistics.
- UTME subjects: Economics and Physics are on both the Offa and Nekede lists, with Mathematics fixed.
- O’level: English and Mathematics are credits, and Physics, Economics and Geography cover the rest, including a science.
- School listing: before paying for anything, Edidiong checks that Ibom Metropolitan Poly shows Statistics on the JAMB portal.
If the school used a 50:50 aggregate, 121 divided by 8 gives 15.12 out of 50, and 30 out of 50 at screening would bring the total to 45.12. That formula is only an illustration. Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published one, and small private polytechnics often admit every candidate who meets the rules.
How to apply for Statistics at Ibom Metropolitan Poly, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: use English, Mathematics, Economics and Physics, and choose Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Atan Offot as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
- Contact the school: visit Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic in Uyo or use the contacts on its website, confirm the course is admitting, and buy the form only from the school. Keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.
Warning
Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a different school from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua. Check the name on your JAMB registration, buy forms only from the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.
Your chances and my advice
- You can pick Statistics under Ibom Metropolitan when you register, which removes the biggest risk with small private polytechnics.
- NBTE accreditation runs to 1 October 2028, which covers a two-year ND that starts in 2027/2028.
- The school advertises a City and Guilds affiliation under the slogan “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications”. Ask what the extra certificate costs and whether it is optional.
- Living in Uyo costs more than in smaller towns, so price rent and transport into your plan if you are not from the city.
- JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should keep checking CAPS until then.
What you study in ND Statistics
ND Statistics takes two years with a SIWES placement. You learn to design surveys, collect and clean data, and analyse it with statistical methods and software. It suits students who are good at Mathematics and like working with numbers more than with machines.
| Area | Typical topics |
|---|---|
| Probability and inference | Probability theory, distributions, estimation and tests |
| Sampling and surveys | Sampling techniques, questionnaire design, fieldwork |
| Applied statistics | Economic and social statistics, demography, quality control |
| Computing | Statistical computing with spreadsheets and packages |
| Supporting courses | Mathematics, economics, business studies, communication |
Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published its own course outline, so the table follows NBTE’s usual ND pattern. Typical first jobs with the ND include data collection officer, research or survey assistant, monitoring and evaluation assistant with NGOs, records and data officer, or fieldwork with statistical agencies.
Accreditation
NBTE’s 25th Edition Directory of Accredited Programmes (2025) lists ND Statistics at Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic as: Accredited (first granted 2021; 2023 accreditation, expires 1 October 2028). The school says on its website that it received NBTE accreditation in 2021 and held its first matriculation on 22 April 2022. NBTE lists HND Statistics at the school, but its interim approval expired on 1 October 2026, so ask about renewal.

Sources and updates
The 2026/2027 polytechnic minimum of 100, the 31 December 2026 deadline and JAMB’s warning against admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025/2026 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). Programme and HND status are from NBTE’s 25th Edition 2025 Directory of Accredited Programmes.
