Gregory University Cut-Off Mark for Microbiology 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Gregory University has no separate Microbiology cut-off; JAMB’s 150 floor now applies. See a safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level rules, screening steps and why NUC status is not confirmed.

The Gregory University cut off mark for Microbiology is not published as a separate figure. Gregory set 140 as the general minimum UTME score in its 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 notices, but JAMB’s minimum for universities in 2026 is 150, so plan for at least 150 and aim for about 170 to 185. Microbiology is on JAMB’s list of Gregory courses under that exact name, so register it as Microbiology. On accreditation, I could not find any NUC result for Gregory’s Microbiology programme, so its NUC status is not confirmed. Ask the university for its NUC letter before you pay. If you want a course with a confirmed result, Gregory’s own Medical Laboratory Science has full NUC accreditation, and Clifford University and Abia State University both have Microbiology with full NUC accreditation.

2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices Gregory has published (2024/2025 and 2025/2026) and JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because no 2026/2027 Gregory notice with a score was available. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Gregory has never published a separate figure for Microbiology. The 140 applied to every course in both notices. JAMB raised the floor for universities to 150 at its May 2026 policy meeting, so no Gregory notice can admit anyone below 150 for 2026 admissions, and I would not expect the 2027 floor to drop back. Plan with 150 as the line you must cross, and treat anything above it as your margin for the course itself.

Safe target score for Microbiology at Gregory (my advice)

Microbiology draws many science candidates who missed Medicine, Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science, so it fills faster than pure science courses such as Physics. The table is my judgement, not a Gregory rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Gregory Microbiology
Below 150Not eligible in the 2026 cycle
150 to 164Eligible; keep a second science course in mind
165 to 179Possible with good Biology and Chemistry credits
180 to 199Competitive
200 and aboveStrong

UTME subject combination and O’level for Gregory Microbiology

RequirementMicrobiology
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics
SittingsNot more than two (Gregory’s 2025/2026 notice)
Direct EntryTwo A level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Zoology or Botany (JAMB’s general rule)
Gregory-specific remarkNone in the brochure reprint

These rules come from the JAMB brochure entry for Microbiology as reprinted by Myschool. The page carries remarks for many universities: UDUSOK and FUTA accept Agricultural Science in place of Biology, and a long list of schools insist on Physics as the fourth UTME subject. None of the remarks names Gregory, so the general line applies to you. That gives you a free choice between Physics and Mathematics for the fourth UTME subject, but Agricultural Science will not replace Biology.

Look closely at the O’level line. Even if you sit Mathematics in the UTME, the general rule still lists Physics among your five credits. A candidate with a credit in Agricultural Science and only a pass in Physics does not meet it at Gregory, because Gregory has no substitution remark.

Gregory screens Direct Entry candidates, but it has not published its own Direct Entry rules for Microbiology. Other universities on the same brochure page accept ND or HND in Science Laboratory Technology; confirm with Gregory whether it does before you apply on that basis.

How Gregory University screening works for Microbiology

Gregory runs an online post-UTME registration. The details below come from the university’s 2024 notice and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool. Gregory had not published 2026/2027 dates or a fee in any source I could reach, so treat the fee as last year’s figure.

Worked example for a Microbiology candidate

Gregory has not published how it ranks candidates, so there is no official aggregate to calculate. What you can work out is how far your UTME score sits above JAMB’s floor and above a sensible target, and whether your O’level meets the course rules. The method below is my illustration, not a Gregory formula.

Take Chidera, who scored 178 with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and has B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Biology, C4 in Chemistry, C5 in Physics and C6 in English Language across two sittings.

  1. National floor: 178 minus 150 = 28.
  2. Against my safe target: 178 is inside the 170 to 185 band, just short of the competitive line at 180.
  3. O’level check: all five required credits, from two sittings. That meets the rule.
  4. What I would advise: register early on the portal and keep Microbiology as the course.

Ifeanyi scored 186 with English, Agricultural Science, Chemistry and Physics. His score is fine, but his UTME combination is not: Biology is compulsory and Gregory does not take Agricultural Science in its place. He would need to fix the subjects at the next UTME.

How to apply for Microbiology at Gregory University, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Microbiology as the course and Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics as your subjects, with Gregory University, Uturu as your first choice.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: if Gregory was not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before you register for screening. The 2025/2026 notice was for candidates who chose Gregory first.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre, once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Universities cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
  5. Register for screening: on the Gregory post-UTME portal, fill the form, upload your passport photograph (PDF), UTME result and O’level result, then pay the screening fee online.
  6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Accept on CAPS: accept the offer, print your JAMB admission letter, then follow Gregory’s instructions for the acceptance fee and clearance. Gregory has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached, so confirm the amount on the official portal before paying.

Warning

Gregory University says applicants should pay only through its official portals and that it has no authorised agents. Every genuine admission shows on JAMB CAPS, so ignore anyone selling a “slot” or a “special list”.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). JAMB also stated that admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Gregory’s phone lines on its 2024 admission notice were 0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920.

Studying Microbiology at Gregory University

Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012 and sited at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The university lists twelve colleges and says it runs over 55 programmes.

Microbiology sits in Gregory’s College of Natural and Applied Sciences, with Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. Gregory has not published the duration; a B.Sc in Microbiology in Nigeria normally takes four years, with industrial training (SIWES) during the programme.

NUC accreditation

NUC publishes a report page for each programme it visits. Pages exist for several Gregory courses from the late 2024 exercise, including Medical Laboratory Science, Accounting and English, but I found none for Gregory Microbiology. The Gregory section of NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication could not be read. So the honest position is that Gregory Microbiology’s NUC status is not confirmed. Ask the department for its most recent NUC accreditation letter and check the result, because a programme with denied accreditation cannot admit new students.

If you would rather pick a course with a published result, these are close options:

ProgrammeNUC resultDetail
Gregory University, Medical Laboratory ScienceFull91.60%, visit 22 November 2024
Clifford University, Owerrinta, MicrobiologyFull88.40%, visit 10 to 12 December 2024
Abia State University, MicrobiologyFullNUC results publication, maturity 2028

Medical Laboratory Science needs the same O’level subjects plus Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the UTME, so a strong Microbiology candidate who sat Physics can apply for it. It is more competitive.

What you study

  • Foundations: general biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics in the first year.
  • Core microbiology: bacteriology, virology, mycology and microbial physiology and genetics.
  • Applied areas: food, industrial and environmental microbiology, and public health microbiology.
  • Lab and research skills: aseptic technique, culture and identification, biostatistics and a final-year project.

This is the usual shape of a Nigerian B.Sc Microbiology; Gregory has not published its own course list.

Careers

  • Quality control in food, drink, water and pharmaceutical companies
  • Research and public health laboratories
  • Environmental and waste management work
  • Teaching and postgraduate study in microbiology, biotechnology or public health

If you want to work as a licensed medical laboratory scientist in a hospital, note that the practising licence in Nigeria goes through the Medical Laboratory Science degree. Choose that course if hospital lab work is your goal.

For UTME revision, use our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Microbiology applicants

  • Planning with 140: JAMB’s 150 floor applies now.
  • Writing Agricultural Science for Biology: only UDUSOK and FUTA have that remark, not Gregory.
  • No Physics credit at O’level: it is in the general five even if you sat Mathematics in the UTME.
  • Paying before checking accreditation: ask for the NUC letter first.
  • Gregory not as first choice: fix it with a change of institution before screening.

If you missed out this year, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Gregory University cut off mark for Microbiology: FAQs

Can I write Mathematics instead of Physics in JAMB for Microbiology at Gregory? Yes. JAMB’s general rule allows Physics or Mathematics as the fourth subject and Gregory has no remark changing that. You still need a Physics credit at O’level.

Is Microbiology at Gregory University accredited? I could not confirm it. NUC has report pages for several Gregory programmes but none for Microbiology, so ask the university for its NUC letter before paying.

Is 160 enough for Microbiology at Gregory University? It clears JAMB’s 150 floor, so you can apply. It sits below my 170 to 185 target, so strong O’level grades and an early application will matter.

What is the post-UTME form fee for Gregory University? It was ₦2,000 in 2025/2026, paid online with an ATM card. Gregory had not published a 2026/2027 fee in any source I reached.
