The Renaissance University cut off mark for Accounting is 150 in the UTME. Renaissance University (RNU), Ugbawka, uses that single minimum for all its programmes in 2026/2027, the same figure as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. RNU has not published a separate, higher cut-off for Accounting.
2027/2028 update: RNU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Accounting is on JAMB’s course list for Renaissance University, under the name Accounting, and it is on RNU’s own 2026/2027 programme list, where the university calls it Accountancy. They are the same degree. Register “Accounting” on JAMB and choose “Accountancy” on RNU’s form.
Two things trip up Accounting applicants here. RNU’s own pages quote two different school fees for the course, and the O’level rule has a useful exception for candidates who have Commerce instead of Economics. Both are explained below, along with a safe target score (my advice), subjects, Direct Entry, fees and the CAPS steps.
Renaissance University cut off mark for Accounting at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| RNU minimum JAMB score for Accounting | 150 | Official (RNU, 2026/2027) |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| Departmental cut-off for Accounting | Not published | RNU says some courses may need more; no figure given |
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Accounting | JAMB course list for RNU |
| Post-UTME test | None published | Not mentioned on RNU’s official pages |
| Application fee | None | RNU FAQ |
| Acceptance fee | ₦50,000 | RNU FAQ and tuition page |
| Session fee | ₦1,600,000 or ₦1,800,000 (RNU pages differ) | RNU 2026/2027 announcement and tuition page |
| O’level | English, Mathematics, Economics | RNU’s own table |
| UTME subjects | English, Mathematics, Economics + one Social Science subject | JAMB brochure general requirement |
RNU Accounting cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | RNU minimum JAMB score for every programme, including Accounting | Official (RNU undergraduate page, FAQ and admission announcement) |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | Separate departmental cut-off for Accounting | RNU tells candidates to ask Admissions for their course cut-off |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | RNU figure for that session | Blogs print numbers, but I found no RNU notice behind them |
RNU’s 2026/2027 announcement also says candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2023 and 2024 JAMB examinations can apply. That line looks carried over from an earlier session, so if you plan to use an older UTME result, ask Admissions before you pay anything. RNU did not appear on the list of institution cut-offs reported from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so the 150 on RNU’s own pages is the figure to work with.
Safe target score for Accounting at RNU (my advice)
This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. RNU has not published these numbers.
| Your UTME score | My read for Accounting at RNU |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for RNU this session |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. Likely if your O’level matches RNU’s table |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable |
| 200 and above | Strong, and it keeps public universities open too |
Accounting has no professional-council admission quota of the kind that limits Law or Nursing, so at a private university the 150 minimum and the O’level table settle most cases. I would still aim for 180 or more. RNU’s FAQ warns that some programmes may need more than 150, and a stronger score lets you keep a public university such as ESUT as a second option.
UTME subject combination and O’level for RNU Accounting
| Requirement | Accounting at RNU |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Accounting |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other Social Science subject (JAMB brochure general requirement) |
| O’level (RNU table) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics |
| O’level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects |
| RNU remark in the brochure | RNU accepts a credit in Commerce in place of Economics |
| Exams accepted | WAEC or NECO (named by RNU) |
| Sittings | Not more than two (RNU) |
| Awaiting results | No RNU rule published; ask Admissions |
For the fourth UTME subject, Government is the usual pick for commercial students. Commerce and Geography are also commonly treated as Social Science subjects, but check that your choice is accepted on the JAMB e-brochure before you pay for registration.
The Commerce exception is worth knowing. JAMB’s brochure, as reprinted by Myschool, carries a remark that RNU accepts an O’level credit in Commerce in lieu of Economics for Accounting. RNU’s own requirements table still names Economics. If your WAEC has Commerce and no Economics credit, ask Admissions to confirm the exception in writing before you accept an offer. Mathematics has no such exception: a pass is not enough, you need a credit.
Direct Entry into Accounting at RNU
RNU’s Direct Entry page sets out the routes below. It does not list separate Direct Entry rules for each course, so read it together with JAMB’s line for Accounting.
| Qualification | RNU’s stated minimum |
|---|---|
| A’level (Cambridge, JUPEB or IJMB) | At least two passes in relevant subjects |
| ND or HND | At least Lower Credit from a recognised institution |
| NCE | At least merit in a related field |
| Also required | O’level result, passport photographs and a JAMB Direct Entry registration for the current year |
JAMB’s general Direct Entry rule for Accounting asks for two A’level passes including Economics. The brochure also carries an RNU remark: it accepts an ND credit from a recognised institution in related programmes such as Accountancy, Business Administration, Banking and Finance or Marketing, plus the UTME requirements. An ND Accountancy holder with a credit is therefore a natural Direct Entry candidate. Whether you enter at 200 level depends on RNU’s clearance, so ask before you pay.
Does RNU write Post-UTME for Accounting?
RNU’s official pages describe a free online application followed by a document check at clearance. None of them mention a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. You still need to be on JAMB CAPS with an eligible score, the right subjects and your O’level uploaded, because every admission in Nigeria passes through CAPS.
RNU’s Direct Entry page adds that applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring extra documents. For Accounting, the clearance check that matters most is your Mathematics and Economics (or Commerce) credits.
Worked example (illustrative)
RNU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example checks eligibility and the money you need before resumption, using RNU’s own figures. Take Chiamaka, who scored 173 with English, Mathematics, Economics and Government, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Commerce, Government and Biology, but only a pass in Economics.
- Score check: 173 minus 150 = 23. She clears RNU’s minimum by 23 marks.
- UTME check: Government is a Social Science subject, so her combination fits JAMB’s line for Accounting.
- O’level check: she has no Economics credit. The RNU remark on Commerce is what keeps her in the race, so she asks Admissions to confirm it.
- Money before resumption (lower fee): On three instalments, 50% of ₦1,600,000 = ₦800,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦850,000. On four instalments, 40% = ₦640,000, plus ₦50,000 = ₦690,000.
- Money before resumption (higher fee): On three instalments, 50% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦900,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦950,000. On four instalments, 40% = ₦720,000, plus ₦50,000 = ₦770,000.
Obinna scored 162 and has credits in English, Mathematics and Economics. His score is lower than Chiamaka’s, but on RNU’s published table he is the cleaner candidate, because nothing in his file depends on an exception.
RNU Accounting acceptance fee and school fees
| Item | Accounting at RNU | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Application fee | None | RNU FAQ |
| Acceptance fee | ₦50,000 | RNU FAQ and tuition page |
| Session fee (2026/2027 announcement) | ₦1,600,000 | RNU blog admission announcement |
| Session fee (tuition schedule) | ₦1,800,000 (listed as Accountancy) | RNU tuition page (no session shown) |
| What the session fee covers | Tuition, hostel accommodation and three meals a day | RNU announcement and tuition page |
| Instalments | Three (50%, 20%, 30%) or four (40%, 20%, 20%, 20%); first instalment before resumption | RNU FAQ |
| Hostel | Compulsory; no more than three students to a room; no cooking | RNU FAQ |
The two RNU pages disagree. The 2026/2027 admission announcement groups Accounting with Medical Laboratory Science, Computer Science, Software Engineering and Cyber Security Science at ₦1,600,000. The tuition schedule on rnu.edu.ng, which shows no session, lists Accountancy at ₦1,800,000 with the other management and social science courses. Budget for ₦1,800,000 and ask the Bursar which figure applies to your set before you pay the first instalment.
Your chances of getting Accounting at RNU
RNU is a private, fee-paying university, and it does not publish how many people apply or how many it admits per course. Going by how private universities in the South East usually fill their places, a candidate who meets the 150 minimum, has the right O’level credits and can pay the fees normally stands a fair chance. That is my reading of the market, not an RNU statistic.
Accounting usually draws more applicants than the other management courses. If it fills, Banking and Finance and Business Administration take the same O’level subjects at RNU, so a change of course on CAPS may be open to you. See the RNU Banking and Finance cut-off mark and the RNU Business Administration cut-off mark posts, and ask Admissions before you accept any Transfer Approval.
On timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the 11 May 2026 policy meeting. The 2027/2028 deadline will be set at JAMB’s 2027 policy meeting. Private universities often keep admitting until close to JAMB’s deadline, which is good news if your result arrives late, but the earlier you apply the better your choice of hostel and course.
How to apply for Accounting at RNU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Accounting at Renaissance University and take Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other Social Science subject. RNU says candidates who chose another school must do a JAMB change of institution before it can admit them.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: RNU lists this in its own admission requirements. Its undergraduate page says its JAMB CBT centre on campus can handle O’level upload, change of institution and CAPS acceptance at a small charge.
- Fill the RNU online form: go to rnu.edu.ng/admissions/regular_admission and choose Accountancy. RNU charges no application fee and says the form takes about three minutes. You can also apply in person at the Admissions Office in Ugbawka.
- Answer any follow-up from Admissions: RNU publishes no Post-UTME test, but it may call you for an interview or ask for more documents, so keep your phone on and your papers ready.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept only when the offer shows RNU and Accounting. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and the first instalment: ₦50,000 acceptance, then at least the first instalment of the session fee before resumption. Pay only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng and confirm the payment with the Bursar.
- Clear with your documents: O’level result, four passport photographs, JAMB result, birth certificate, local government identification letter or certificate of origin, NIN slip, acceptance and school fee receipts, and A’level result for Direct Entry.
Warning
RNU charges no application fee. Anyone who asks you to pay for an RNU form or promises a guaranteed slot for money is not acting for the university. A genuine offer appears on your JAMB CAPS page, and fees go only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng, confirmed with the Bursar.
Studying Accounting at Renaissance University
Accountancy sits in RNU’s Faculty of Management and Social Sciences with Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Economics, Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology and History and International Relations. RNU is in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, about five minutes from ESUT’s Agbani campus, and the NUC licensed it as a private university in 2005. The degree is a B.Sc., which normally takes four years in Nigeria; RNU’s pages do not state the duration.
On accreditation, RNU’s pages say only that its courses are accredited by the NUC. Myschool reported in July 2024 that the NUC granted full re-accreditation to five RNU programmes, Accounting among them, in a letter dated 6 June 2024. I could not see the NUC letter itself or an NUC report page for RNU Accounting, so ask Admissions to show you the current NUC status. Ask too whether the department has any exemption arrangement with ICAN or ANAN; RNU publishes none.
What you study
- Early years: principles of accounting, business mathematics, economics, introduction to business and statistics.
- Core accounting: financial accounting, cost and management accounting, auditing, taxation and public sector accounting.
- Later years: corporate reporting, financial management, accounting information systems, industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year project.
Careers
Graduates work as accountants and audit trainees in firms, banks and companies, as tax officers, as bursary staff in schools and public bodies, and in finance roles in NGOs. Most go on to a professional qualification such as ICAN or ACCA, which is what moves salaries in this field.

Mistakes that cost Accounting applicants an RNU place
- Leaving out Economics or Mathematics in the UTME: both are part of JAMB’s Accounting line.
- A pass, not a credit, in Mathematics: RNU names Mathematics in its table, and Commerce cannot stand in for it.
- Relying on the Commerce exception without asking: it appears in the brochure, but RNU’s own table still says Economics.
- Planning with the lower fee only: RNU’s pages show ₦1,600,000 and ₦1,800,000.
- RNU not your first choice: fix it with a JAMB change of institution.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee and clearance at Ugbawka come next.
