The Caritas University cut-off mark for Mass Communication is 150 in the UTME in practice. Caritas’s admissions page says candidates with 140 and above can apply, but JAMB set 150 as the 2026 minimum for all universities, and no admission below it can pass through CAPS. Caritas has not published a separate Mass Communication figure and does not hold a written Post-UTME test.
2027/2028 update: Caritas University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Mass Communication is on JAMB’s Caritas list as Mass Communication and on Caritas’s own 2026/2027 list in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. JAMB’s brochure has no Caritas remark for this course, so the general subject combination applies: Literature in English, Economics and Government. The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results show the programme at Full accreditation with a maturity date of 2030, the latest date among Caritas’s social science courses (Psychology shares it). Below are the subject combination, the O’level you need for both JAMB and Caritas, screening, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

Caritas Mass Communication cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 and above | Caritas’s stated minimum for all applicants | Official Caritas admissions page, read 30 October 2026 |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 (as titled) | 140 | Caritas admission notice signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka | Official, but the text is carried over from older years |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
The notice titled for 2025/2026 still refers to the “2019 JAMB UTME” and a closing date of 15 February 2025, so it is old text that Caritas keeps reposting. I use it only for two points that have stayed constant: the 140 figure and the statement that there is no Post-UTME screening test. Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat both points.
Mass Communication is not named in either Caritas document. The 140 applies to the whole university, and JAMB’s 150 has replaced it for any admission processed on CAPS.
Score warning
Caritas’s admissions page still says candidates with 140 and above can apply. JAMB’s 2026 minimum for every university is 150, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so a UTME score from 140 to 149 cannot give you a valid Caritas admission. Do not pay any agent who promises to “process” one.
Safe target score for Mass Communication at Caritas (my advice)
Mass Communication is one of the most requested arts and social science courses in Nigeria. ESUT placed it in its 180 band for 2026/2027, above its general 160, and UNN asks for 160 just to be screened. Caritas does not rank applicants with a test, so a candidate on 155 with the right subjects and O’level can be admitted. I still set my target higher than for Caritas’s quieter social science courses, because demand for this one is stronger and a good score keeps ESUT or UNN open as a second option.
| Your UTME score | My read for Caritas Mass Communication |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME this session; consider the JUPEB or Direct Entry route |
| 150 to 179 | Eligible; apply early and have your O’level ready on CAPS |
| 180 to 209 | Comfortable for Caritas, and at ESUT’s 2026/2027 level |
| 210 and above | Strong; worth comparing UNN as well |
My target for a 2027 candidate is 180 or more.
Mass Communication subject combination and O’level at Caritas
JAMB’s brochure entry for Mass Communication carries special remarks for ESUT, CRUTECH, AAUA and Wellspring, but Caritas is not named anywhere on it. You follow the general lines, plus Caritas’s own faculty list for O’level.
| Requirement | JAMB general line | What Caritas adds |
|---|---|---|
| UTME | Literature in English, Economics and Government | Nothing; use the general line |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Literature in English and Government, plus a pass in Mathematics | Faculty list: English, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Literature in English, Economics or Government | Nothing published |
Your UTME combination
The general line is fixed: Use of English, Literature in English, Economics and Government. There is no open slot. Some universities accept CRS or a mix of Arts subjects in place of Economics, but those are their own remarks and do not cover Caritas. If you register Literature, Government and CRS, for example, you fit CRUTECH’s remark and not the general line Caritas uses.
Your O’level: meeting both lists
Put JAMB’s line and Caritas’s faculty list together and the five credits almost choose themselves:
- English Language (both lists)
- Mathematics (credit for Caritas; JAMB’s line only asks for a pass)
- Literature in English (JAMB’s line)
- Government (JAMB’s line)
- Economics (Caritas’s faculty list)
All five must be credits, in not more than two sittings, and WAEC, NECO and NABTEB can be combined. The tight spot is Mathematics. JAMB’s general line accepts a pass, but Caritas’s general rule asks every candidate for credits in English and Mathematics, and its faculty list names Mathematics. Get a credit if at all possible.
Direct Entry
JAMB’s general line asks for two A-level passes from Literature in English, Economics or Government. ESUT and CRUTECH have remarks accepting ND upper credit or HND in Mass Communication, but Caritas has none, so ask the admissions office in writing whether it takes an ND holder before you buy a Direct Entry form. Caritas runs its own JUPEB programme for 2026/2027, and JUPEB passes in Literature, Government or Economics would fit the general line.
How Caritas screens Mass Communication applicants
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | “Admission ongoing for 2026/2027 session” on the Caritas admissions page |
| Who can apply | Candidates with 140 and above, whether or not Caritas was their first choice (150 is the real floor) |
| Written Post-UTME test | None, according to Caritas’s admission notice |
| Awaiting result | Allowed if the result is available by resumption |
| Form fee, closing date, aggregate formula | Not published on the pages read |
| Student loan | The admissions page links to the NELFUND portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng); check your own eligibility there |
| JAMB deadline for private universities (2026/2027) | 30 November 2026 |
The no-test statement comes from a notice Caritas has reposted with old dates, so read it as long-standing practice. Some universities ask Mass Communication applicants for an interview or an aptitude task. Caritas has published nothing of the sort, but go to any document screening ready to say why you chose the course.
Worked example
These figures are illustrative. Caritas publishes no aggregate, so the checks are JAMB’s floor, my target and the O’level.
Ifeoma scored 193 with Literature in English, Economics and Government. Her WAEC result has B3 in English, C5 in Mathematics, B2 in Literature, C4 in Government and C6 in Economics.
- JAMB floor: 193 minus 150 = 43. Eligible.
- Against my target: 193 minus 180 = 13. Comfortable.
- UTME subjects: exactly the general line. Correct.
- O’level: credits in all five subjects on the combined list. She qualifies.
- Next step: apply, upload her result to CAPS and accept the offer quickly.
Now take Kelechi, who scored 171 with Literature, Government and CRS. His score is fine, but his UTME lacks Economics, so it does not match the general line Caritas follows. His options are a JAMB change of course to Political Science at Caritas, which accepts Government or History with two other Social Science or Arts subjects, or a rewrite with Economics. Check the deadlines on our JAMB change of course guide.
Admission odds and advice
- The combination is fixed: Literature, Economics and Government. Nothing else fits the line Caritas uses.
- Five specific credits: English, Mathematics, Literature, Government and Economics.
- Put Caritas first on JAMB: Caritas takes candidates who did not, but CAPS still needs a change of institution.
- Know the 2026/2027 date: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities in the current session.
- Ask about facilities: a Mass Communication student needs radio and TV studios, editing suites and a campus newspaper. Ask to see them before you pay.

How to apply for Mass Communication at Caritas, step by step
- Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line registered with your NIN, then use the code to register.
- UTME registration: choose Caritas University and “Mass Communication”, and write Use of English, Literature in English, Economics and Government.
- O’level on CAPS: upload your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as it is out. CAPS cannot show you to Caritas without it.
- Caritas application: go to the admissions page on caritasuni.edu.ng, use the application link or the “Contact admissions” option, and apply for Mass Communication. Caritas has not published the 2026/2027 form price, so pay only the amount the official portal shows and keep the receipt.
- Screening: there is no written Post-UTME test on record. Expect Caritas to check your UTME score, subjects and O’level, and bring originals if you are called for document screening.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer once it appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows every screen.
- Acceptance and school fees: Caritas says its fees were revised but publishes no amounts. Pay only into the account on your official Caritas invoice, then print your JAMB admission letter.
Studying Mass Communication at Caritas University
Accreditation
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) lists Mass Communication under Caritas, in the Communication and Media Studies discipline, with results reading Full, Interim, Full, Full and Full and a maturity date of 2030. A 2027 entrant would finish the degree inside that accreditation period. I did not find a separate NUC report page for this programme.
NUC’s newer curriculum allows universities to split Mass Communication into separate degrees such as Journalism or Public Relations, and some have done so. Caritas still lists Mass Communication on its 2026/2027 programme list and on JAMB, so that is the name to register.
Degree, duration and what you study
Caritas awards a B.Sc. Mass Communication. The degree normally takes four years from 100 level, and Caritas has not published a different length. Expect roughly this progression:
- 100 level: introduction to mass communication, history of the Nigerian media, writing for the media, introduction to sociology and political science, and general studies.
- 200 level: news writing and reporting, editing, introduction to broadcasting, photojournalism, communication theory and research methods.
- 300 level: feature and magazine writing, radio and TV production, public relations, advertising, media law and ethics, and an industrial attachment where the department runs one.
- 400 level: development communication, investigative and data journalism, media management, digital and online media, and a final-year project.
Careers
Graduates work as reporters, editors and presenters in print, radio, TV and online newsrooms, and as public relations and corporate communications officers, advertising and brand executives, content and social media managers, and information officers in government. Practising public relations professionally usually means joining the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, and advertising practice is regulated by ARCON. I found no exemption arrangement naming Caritas with either body.

Mistakes that cost Mass Communication applicants a Caritas place
- Relying on 140: JAMB’s 150 is the floor for CAPS.
- Swapping Economics for CRS in the UTME: that fits other universities’ remarks, not the general line Caritas uses.
- No Economics credit: Caritas’s faculty list names it even though JAMB’s line does not.
- Mathematics below credit: JAMB says pass; Caritas asks for a credit.
- Not uploading O’level to CAPS: no upload, no offer.
Caritas Mass Communication cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). Caritas’s 140 figure, the statement that first-choice and other candidates may apply, the awaiting-result rule and the faculty O’level lists come from the Caritas University admissions page, read on 30 October 2026. The no-test statement comes from Caritas’s admission notice signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka, with O3schools and Studentship as secondary confirmation. The course name comes from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s Caritas course list and the subject rules from the brochure entry for Mass Communication, which has no Caritas remark, both checked on 30 October 2026. Accreditation is from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (September 2026). The RNU, UNN and ESUT figures come from their 2026/2027 notices covered in our linked guides. Safe target scores and worked examples are my own advice, not Caritas figures. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated when Caritas or JAMB publishes 2027/2028 figures.
