ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Computer Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

ESUT needs 200 in the UTME to screen for Computer Science in 2027/2028 and publishes no merit score. See the safe target, JAMB subjects, O’level rules, no-test screening, CAPS steps and how it compares with ESUT’s new computing degrees.

The ESUT cut off mark for Computer Science for 2026/2027 is 200 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology named Computer Science in the 200 band of its official Post-UTME advert on 4 July 2026, the same band as Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Radiography and the five new computing and security degrees.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

200 is what you need to be screened. The score that actually secures a Computer Science place is higher, and ESUT does not publish it. In this guide I set out the official figures, the cut-off history, a safe target (my advice), the JAMB subject combination and O’level rules, how ESUT’s online screening works, the CAPS steps, and how Computer Science compares with ESUT’s new Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Science and Software Engineering degrees.

The minimum UTME score (200) is a gate set before screening. The merit score is the lowest UTME score ESUT actually admits into Computer Science after ranking applicants against the places available, and ESUT keeps it internal. For a popular course, the merit score sits some distance above the minimum.

Computer Science cut-off history at ESUT

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus

2025/2026200Minimum UTME to apply (Computer Science named)Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice

The minimum held at 200 for two sessions. In 2025/2026 Computer Science was one of only three courses in the 200 band, with Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography. In 2026/2027 ESUT added its five new programmes to that band. I have not found any ESUT document giving a higher “departmental cut-off” for Computer Science, so be wary of any site that quotes one as official. The minimum can change each year, so read the new advert when it comes out.

Safe target score for Computer Science at ESUT (my advice)

This section is my advice, not an ESUT rule. Computer Science is one of the most requested science courses in the South East, and ESUT put it in the second-highest band it uses for non-medical courses. The new computing degrees may draw off some applicants in 2026/2027, but I would not count on that.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Computer Science
200 to 214Eligible for screening. Admission is uncertain; list a backup.
215 to 229Possible with good O’level grades in Mathematics and Physics.
230 to 249A good chance.
250 and aboveComfortable. This is the range I would aim for.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Computer Science is 240 or more, with at least B grades in Mathematics and Physics. Mathematics is the subject that decides most first-year results in Computer Science, so put your UTME preparation there.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is an Enugu State Government university, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split has not been stated as ESUT policy.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Computer Science

RequirementComputer Science
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other science subjects
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert. Two sittings is the common ceiling
Direct EntryTwo A’level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other Science or Social Science subject (JAMB general entry). ESUT has not published its own DE grades
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These are the general requirements in the JAMB brochure entry for Computer Science (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026). The entry carries many institution-specific remarks, for example several universities that insist on Chemistry as the third subject, but none for ESUT. So the general rule applies to ESUT unless JAMB’s current e-brochure says otherwise.

Chemistry is the safest fourth subject. It satisfies every university that insists on it, and it keeps Computer Engineering and other science courses open if you need to change course later.

How ESUT screening works for Computer Science

ESUT ran its 2026/2027 screening on these terms.

DetailESUT 2026/2027 screening
Who could applyCandidates who chose ESUT in the 2026 UTME, and candidates who did not choose ESUT but changed institution to ESUT through JAMB first
Score neededThe minimum UTME score ESUT set for the course (see the table above)
Direct EntryScreened online too; former institutions must verify and clear DE candidates on JAMB e-facility
Registration windowTuesday 7 July to Saturday 15 August 2026 (closed)
Fee₦2,000, paid at a bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct or online by debit card
TestNone. Screening is online only, with no physical screening and no aptitude test
Awaiting resultsAllowed for May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, but results released after 30 September 2026 are not accepted
O’level uploadEvery candidate must upload O’level results on JAMB CAPS
NamesMust match on your O’level certificates, UTME result and other documents
Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for a Computer Science candidate

Take Ebuka, who scored 231 in the 2026 UTME with A1, B2, B3, C4 and C5 in his five O’level subjects.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 231 minus the 200 minimum = 31 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 231 ÷ 8 = 28.88 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 10 + 9 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 40 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 28.88 + 40 = 68.88 out of 100.

Ifunanya scored 218 with A1, A1, B2, B2 and B3. Her illustrative total is 27.25 + 46 = 73.25, ahead of Ebuka although he scored 13 more in JAMB. Ranked on UTME alone, Ebuka leads. ESUT has not published how it ranks, so aim for both a strong UTME and clean O’level grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Computer Science at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or another allowed fourth subject) and choose ESUT and Computer Science. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Computer Science, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to finish admissions by 31 October 2026. If ESUT offers you another course, such as Mathematics, Statistics or one of the new computing degrees, it shows on CAPS as a separate offer. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Computer Science at ESUT

Computer Science sits in ESUT’s Faculty of Physical Sciences, which also lists Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Data Science, Geology and Mining, Industrial Chemistry, Mathematics, Industrial Physics and Statistics in the 2026/2027 advert. The degree is a four-year B.Sc. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani, Nkanu West, Enugu State; ESUT’s notices I checked do not name the faculty’s building or campus, so confirm at clearance.

What you study

  • Foundations: mathematics for computing (calculus, discrete mathematics, linear algebra), statistics and introductory programming.
  • Core computing: data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, database systems and computer networks.
  • Software: object-oriented programming, software engineering and web development.
  • Later years: theory of computation, compiler construction, artificial intelligence, computer security and electives.
  • Industrial training and project: a SIWES placement and a final-year project.

This is the usual shape of a Nigerian B.Sc. Computer Science under the NUC standards. ESUT’s exact course codes and electives come in the departmental handbook after admission.

Accreditation: the Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that ESUT secured full NUC accreditation for programmes in its Faculty of Sciences, among others, after the 2024 exercise. That statement is at faculty level; it does not give a grade for Computer Science by name, and the faculty has since been split into Physical and Biological Sciences. Ask the department for its current NUC status if you want certainty.

Computer Science or one of the new computing degrees?

In July 2026 the NUC approved five new full-time degrees at ESUT, according to a Premium Times press release. Four overlap with Computer Science. All five have the same 200 minimum.

ProgrammeFaculty2026/2027 minimumStatus

If you want the safest, most recognised degree, Computer Science is the one with graduates and an accreditation record behind it. The new programmes suit candidates who already know they want that specialism and accept being in a first cohort. Read more on each:

Career paths after Computer Science

  • Software developer (web, mobile or backend).
  • Systems and network administrator.
  • Database administrator or data analyst.
  • IT support and cybersecurity roles, often after professional certifications.
  • Teaching and research after postgraduate study.

Mistakes Computer Science applicants make

  • Writing Biology as the fourth subject without checking: it fits the general rule, but Chemistry keeps more doors open.
  • A weak Physics credit: Physics is a required O’level credit for this course.
  • Assuming 200 guarantees a place: it is only the floor for screening.
  • Mismatched names: ESUT requires the same name on your O’level, UTME and other documents.
  • Paying acceptance before accepting on CAPS: the CAPS acceptance comes first.

ESUT cut off mark for Computer Science: frequently asked questions

Is 210 enough for Computer Science in ESUT? 210 clears ESUT’s 200 minimum, so you can be screened, but it is a borderline score for a popular course. I would aim for 240 or more and list a backup course.

Can I study Computer Science at ESUT without Chemistry? Yes under JAMB’s general rule, which accepts Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography as the fourth UTME subject. ESUT has no special remark, but Chemistry is the safest choice.

Is Computer Science at ESUT accredited? The Enugu State Government reported in 2025 that ESUT’s science programmes received full NUC accreditation after the 2024 exercise. No separate grade for Computer Science was published.

Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Computer Science? Yes, for 2026/2027 ESUT accepted awaiting May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results, but not results released after 30 September 2026.
