ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Agronomy and Ecological Management 2027/2028: Subject Combination and Requirements

ESUT’s official minimum UTME score for Agronomy and Ecological Management in 2027/2028 is 160, and no merit score is published. See the JAMB subject combination, the ESUT Physics remark, screening terms, a worked example and careers.

The ESUT cut off mark for Agronomy and Ecological Management for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology’s official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026 placed the Faculty of Agriculture in its 160 band. A score of 160 or more, ESUT as your institution and the right subjects made you eligible for its online screening.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

160 is the gate, not the admission score, and ESUT does not publish a final merit score for Agronomy or any other course. The JAMB brochure lists ESUT by name as a school offering Agronomy under this title, and it carries an ESUT remark that eases the O’level Physics rule. Below are the official figure, the cut-off history, my safe target score, the full subject combination, how screening works with a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.

Keep the two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score is the gate ESUT announces before screening; below it, the portal will not take your application for that course. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into the course after screening, and ESUT does not announce it. Most of the confusion online about “ESUT departmental cut-off marks” comes from treating the first as the second.

2025/2026160Minimum UTME to apply (“Agriculture” in the 160 group)Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice
Any yearNot publishedFinal merit score for Agronomy and Ecological ManagementNo ESUT list found

ESUT’s advert names the Faculties of Agriculture, Education and Environmental Sciences together at 160, so this figure applies to the whole faculty, Agronomy and Ecological Management included. The same band appears in the blog summary of the 2025/2026 notice, so the minimum has held steady for at least two sessions. Bands can still move from one session to the next, so treat the 2025/2026 row as history and check the new advert when ESUT releases it.

Some blogs quote much higher ESUT “cut-offs” for popular courses, such as 314 for Medicine or 246 for Accounting, without an ESUT document behind them. None of those lists gives an official figure for Agronomy and Ecological Management, so ignore any number ESUT did not publish.

Safe target score for Agronomy and Ecological Management at ESUT (my advice)

This is my advice, not an ESUT rule. Agronomy is one of the least crowded courses at ESUT, and most of the people who end up in it were first redirected there from Medicine, Nursing or the applied sciences through CAPS. That means the pool can include candidates with scores well above 160 in some years.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Agronomy and Ecological Management
160 to 169Eligible, but you depend on how many stronger candidates are redirected into the course.
170 to 179A fair chance with good O’level grades.
180 to 199A good chance.
200 and aboveComfortable for Agronomy at ESUT on present patterns.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Agronomy and Ecological Management is 180 or more, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT has not published a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split you may have read about is federal university policy, and ESUT has not said it applies it. If you are from outside Enugu, plan to win on your score and grades rather than on state of origin.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Agronomy and Ecological Management

RequirementAgronomy and Ecological Management
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics
O’level (general)Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, and Geography or Economics
O’level (ESUT remark)ESUT accepts an O’level pass in Physics
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct Entry (general)Two A’level passes from Chemistry, Biology (or Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science), Mathematics, Physics, Geology or Economics
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These come from the JAMB brochure entry for Agronomy as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026). Its list of schools names ESUT, with the course title Agronomy and Ecological Management, so this is the right entry to read. There is no ESUT remark on the UTME line, so the general rule applies.

The ESUT remark says ESUT accepts an O’level pass in Physics. In plain terms, Physics counts for this course at ESUT even if you did not get a credit in it. Your five credits still need to cover English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology, so do not let a weak Biology or Chemistry result slide on the strength of this remark.

ESUT’s advert only says Direct Entry candidates are screened online and must be cleared on JAMB e-facility by their former institutions. The brochure gives no ESUT remark on ND entry for Agronomy, so confirm the accepted diploma and grade with the department.

How ESUT screening works for Agronomy and Ecological Management

These were the 2026/2027 screening terms in ESUT’s advert. The window has closed for this session, but they show you what to prepare for 2027.

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for an Agronomy and Ecological Management candidate

Take Chinedu, who scored 184 in the 2026 UTME with C4, C5, C6, B3 and C4 in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Geography.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 184 minus the 160 minimum = 24 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 184 ÷ 8 = 23.00 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 7 + 6 + 5 + 8 + 7 = 33 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 23.00 + 33 = 56.00 out of 100.

Amaka scored 168 with B2, B3, B3, B2 and C4 in the same subjects. Her illustrative total is 21.00 + 41 = 62.00, ahead of Chinedu with 16 fewer UTME marks. If ESUT ranks on UTME alone, Chinedu leads. ESUT has not published how it ranks, so raise both your score and your grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Agronomy and Ecological Management at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics and choose ESUT and Agronomy and Ecological Management. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Agronomy and Ecological Management, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list appeared on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026, Myschool reported. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer and set 31 October 2026 as the end of admissions for public universities. Myschool also reported on 28 October 2026 that ESUT had released change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027. I have not read their terms, so check the portal if CAPS shows a course other than the one you applied for.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Agronomy and Ecological Management at ESUT

Agronomy and Ecological Management is one of four programmes listed under ESUT’s Faculty of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management in the 2026/2027 advert, with Agricultural Economics and Extension, Animal Science and Fisheries Management and Food Science and Technology. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. The pages I checked do not confirm where the faculty’s classrooms, farms and laboratories sit, so treat Agbani as the likely base and confirm when you resume. Agriculture degrees in Nigerian universities usually run for five years for UTME entrants, including a long farm practice or industrial attachment, and Direct Entry students start at 200 level. ESUT has not confirmed the length of its own programme on any page I could reach.

Agronomy is the science of growing crops and managing the soil they grow in. ESUT’s title adds ecological management, which points to how farming affects land, water and the wider environment. Expect areas like these:

  • Crop production: field crops, vegetables and tree crops common in South East Nigeria, such as cassava, yam, maize and oil palm.
  • Soil science: soil formation, fertility, fertilisers and soil conservation.
  • Crop protection: weeds, pests and plant diseases, and how to control them safely.
  • Plant breeding and seed technology: improving varieties and producing good planting material.
  • Agricultural ecology and land management: erosion control, land use and climate effects on farming.
  • Farm machinery, irrigation and statistics for field trials.
  • Farm practice, industrial attachment and a final-year research project.

Accreditation: The Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that ESUT secured full NUC accreditation for programmes in its Faculties of Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and Administration after the 2024 exercise. The Faculty of Agriculture is not named in that report, and I found no published NUC result for Agronomy and Ecological Management, so its accreditation status is not confirmed here. The programme is running: it is listed in ESUT’s official 2026/2027 advert. Ask the department at clearance which NUC result it holds; it is a fair question and they should answer it.

Career paths after Agronomy and Ecological Management

  • Agronomist or field officer with seed, fertiliser and agrochemical companies.
  • Extension and crop officer with state Agricultural Development Programmes and ministries of agriculture.
  • Farm manager on commercial plantations and large farms.
  • Research assistant at agricultural research institutes and universities.
  • Environmental and land management roles with NGOs and government agencies working on erosion and land use.
  • Running your own crop farm or nursery, and postgraduate study in crop or soil science.

Mistakes Agronomy and Ecological Management applicants make

  • Treating 160 as the admission score: it only lets you apply. Candidates redirected from other science courses can push the real figure up.
  • Reading the Physics remark as a pass in everything: it covers Physics only. English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology still need credits.
  • Leaving Chemistry out of the UTME: Chemistry is compulsory in the combination.
  • Expecting a Post-UTME test to rescue a low score: ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had no test, so your UTME score and O’level do the work.
  • Forgetting the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes the O’level upload compulsory for every candidate.
  • Late awaiting results: results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
  • Name mismatches: ESUT asks that names match across O’level certificates, the UTME result and other documents.
