Marist Poly Computer Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Marist Poly Computer Engineering cut-off mark for 2027/2028: JAMB’s 100 minimum, a safe target, the fixed UTME subjects (Maths, Physics, Chemistry), O’level credits, how Marist admits, CAPS steps and HND options.

The Marist Poly Computer Engineering cut-off mark is 100, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics, because Marist Polytechnic, Emene, Enugu has not published its own figure for the course. Computer Engineering is on JAMB’s course list for Marist, and ND Computer Engineering was on the school’s latest admission notice, so you can choose it on your JAMB form. The bigger hurdle is the subject combination: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are all fixed.

2027/2028 update: Marist Polytechnic cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Below are the official figures with sources, a safe target score, the UTME subjects and O’level credits JAMB lists for polytechnic Computer Engineering, how Marist admits students, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the two-year National Diploma covers.

Marist Poly Computer Engineering cut-off mark: the official figures

Marist’s latest admission notice, for 2025/2026, listed ND Computer Engineering but gave no minimum score (maristpolytechnic.edu.ng). With no school figure, JAMB’s national floor applies. JAMB kept the polytechnic minimum at 100 for 2026/2027 (NAN, 11 May 2026), the same as in 2025/2026 (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025).

Marist has never published a departmental cut-off for Computer Engineering. Treat any figure on a blog without a school notice as a guess.

Safe target score (consultant advice)

I would aim for 130 or more. That is my planning number, not a Marist figure. Computer Engineering draws fewer applicants than Computer Science because the three science subjects put many candidates off, and Marist is a small private polytechnic. A score of 130 still gives you room if the school raises its bar, and it keeps IMT and ESPOLY Computer Engineering within reach as backups.

Your UTME scoreWhat it means for Computer Engineering at Marist
Below 100Not eligible for any polytechnic in Nigeria
100 to 129Eligible; likely fine with all five credits
130 to 159Comfortable
160 and aboveStrong; also competitive at public polytechnics

UTME subject combination for Computer Engineering at Marist Poly

JAMB’s polytechnic brochure entry for Computer Engineering lists Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with Use of English compulsory for every UTME candidate (brochure entry). The only UTME remarks on the entry are for Sure-P Poly and Nekede, and none is for Marist, so your four subjects are fixed.

SubjectStatus
Use of EnglishCompulsory for every UTME candidate
MathematicsCompulsory
PhysicsCompulsory
ChemistryCompulsory
Biology, Geography, Economics, Further MathematicsNot accepted as UTME subjects for this course

The same four subjects also fit Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology and Science Laboratory Technology at most polytechnics, which makes switching easy if you need to. Use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus to prepare for the Chemistry paper.

O’level requirements for Marist Poly Computer Engineering

The brochure asks for five credits including Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus a credit in English Language, and the fifth from a list that includes Biology or Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics or Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Further Mathematics, Geography and Economics or Commerce. It has no Marist remark. Marist has not published its own sitting limit, so confirm whether it accepts two sittings.

Fifth credit (pick one)Further Mathematics, Basic Electronics or Electricity, Technical Drawing, Biology or Agricultural Science, Geography, Economics
SittingsNot published by Marist; confirm with the school
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB or equivalent (usual polytechnic rule)

A few schools on the brochure, such as Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and Fidei Polytechnic, accept a pass in English Language for this course. Those remarks are not written for Marist, so you need a credit.

HND and Direct Entry

Marist’s Courses page lists no HND Computer Engineering. Its engineering HND is Electrical/Electronics (Power option). If you plan to continue to HND after your ND, ask the school whether a Computer Engineering ND can enter that HND, or plan to do your HND at another polytechnic that runs HND Computer Engineering. JAMB’s brochure gives no Direct Entry rule for this course, and HND entry does not go through the UTME. Our Marist HND guide covers the HND rules.

Marist Poly screening and a worked example

Marist has not published a post-UTME test, screening fee or timetable. Its latest admission notice, for the 2025/2026 session (26 June 2025), listed ND Computer Engineering with four other ND courses, told applicants to apply through the Admissions menu on the school website (“Apply Now”), and asked candidates who had not chosen Marist to make it their first choice at a JAMB CBT centre. It gave no minimum score, fee or dates. I found no 2026/2027 admission notice on the site when I checked on 30 October 2026. The menu has a “2026/2027 Fees” link, but it opens the 2024/2025 fees page.

Small private polytechnics usually screen with your UTME score and O’level result, sometimes with a short interview. Marist has not described its method, so ask when you apply.

Worked example (illustrative)

Kenechukwu scored 134 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His WAEC result, one sitting, reads English C6, Mathematics B3, Physics C4, Chemistry C5, Technical Drawing B2. He clears JAMB’s 100 and my 130 target and holds all four compulsory credits.

Many polytechnics rank ND applicants with a 50/50 mix of UTME and O’level. Using that only as an illustration: the UTME half is 134 ÷ 8 = 16.75. With A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5, his five grades give 5 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 9 = 35. His illustrative total is 51.75 out of 100. Marist has published no aggregate formula, so use this only to compare yourself with others.

His C6 in English is a credit, so he is safe. A D7 there would have ended his chance at Marist, because the brochure’s English pass concession is for other schools.

How to apply for Computer Engineering at Marist Poly

  1. Create your JAMB profile: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line you will use for JAMB. The reply is your profile code.
  2. Choose Marist Polytechnic and Computer Engineering: make Marist your first choice. If you registered for another school, use a JAMB change of institution at a JAMB CBT centre, as Marist’s own notice advised.
  3. Write the UTME: sit the right subject combination (below), then check your JAMB result.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB accredited centre, and upload both results if you used two sittings. Marist cannot recommend you on CAPS without them.
  5. Apply on the Marist website: use the Admissions menu on maristpolytechnic.edu.ng and its “Apply Now” link, and pay only the amount the school’s own page or portal (portal.maristpolytechnic.edu.ng) gives you.
  6. Accept on CAPS: when Marist recommends you and JAMB approves, accept the offer. Under JAMB’s 2026 rules an offer not accepted within four weeks can be withdrawn. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows each screen.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: print your JAMB admission letter, then pay the acceptance and school fees through the school. Marist has not published 2026/2027 amounts.

JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, so the current cycle runs until 31 December 2026. If you picked another course or school, see JAMB change of course and change of institution.

Warning

Every valid ND admission at Marist must show on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Pay only through the school’s own website or portal, never into a personal account.

Your chances of getting Computer Engineering at Marist Poly

Marist publishes no intake or applicant numbers, so this is my judgement. The fixed Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry combination keeps the applicant pool small, and Marist is a private polytechnic with fewer applicants than IMT or ESPOLY. A first-choice candidate with 120 or more, the four compulsory credits and a quick CAPS upload should be in a good position. Most candidates who miss out do so because of a wrong UTME subject or a missing Chemistry or English credit.

What you study in ND Computer Engineering

Marist’s course description is cut short on its website. A polytechnic ND in Computer Engineering follows NBTE’s national curriculum, and the usual pattern is:

  • Electrical and electronic circuits, and electronic devices
  • Digital electronics and logic design
  • Computer hardware, microprocessors and interfacing
  • Programming and an introduction to software for engineers
  • Technical drawing, workshop practice and engineering mathematics
  • Data communication and networking basics
  • General ND courses such as communication in English and entrepreneurship

Between the first and second year you do SIWES, an industrial attachment in a computer repair workshop, a telecoms or networking firm, or an IT unit. Your ND is graded Distinction, Upper Credit, Lower Credit or Pass, and that grade decides HND entry.

Duration and accreditation

A full-time ND takes two years (four semesters). An HND takes two more years after the ND and a year of industrial training.

Marist Polytechnic is S/No 85 in NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes, listed as a private polytechnic at Umuchigbo-Ije Nike, Emene, approved by government in 2016. The school’s home page also reported an NBTE resource inspection visit in September 2025. Whether ND Computer Engineering itself holds current NBTE accreditation is not confirmed: the school publishes no accreditation statement and the directory’s programme tables could not be read. Ask the department for its NBTE accreditation letter before paying school fees.

Careers

  • Computer hardware repair and maintenance
  • Network and IT support technician
  • Installing and servicing CCTV, solar and electronic systems
  • Technician roles in telecoms and electronics firms
  • HND in Computer Engineering at a polytechnic that runs it, or direct entry into a university engineering degree

Mistakes to avoid

  • Swapping Chemistry for Biology or Further Mathematics in the UTME: the combination is fixed.
  • Having only a pass in English: the pass concession on the brochure is for other polytechnics, not Marist.
  • Assuming there is an HND Computer Engineering at Marist: its Courses page lists none.
  • Leaving your O’level off CAPS: the school cannot recommend you without it.
  • Ignoring the four-week acceptance window on CAPS.
