Clifford University Mass Communication Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Clifford University’s cut-off for Mass Communication is the 150 it sets for all courses, but its subject rules are strict: Literature in English in the UTME and credits in Mathematics and a science. See the combination, O’level, Direct Entry, fees and CAPS steps.

The Clifford University cut-off mark for Mass Communication is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta lists 150 as its general cut-off on the 2026/2027 admission notice, the same as JAMB’s minimum for universities, and it has published no separate figure for Mass Communication. The harder part of this course is the subject list: Clifford wants Literature in English in your UTME and credits in Literature, Mathematics and a science subject in your O’level.

2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Mass Communication is in Clifford’s Faculty of Social and Management Sciences. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice, clearly labelled), the subject combination that satisfies both JAMB and Clifford, the O’level and Direct Entry rules, what is known about screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.

This page is about Clifford University, the Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and candidates enter by UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. There is no higher figure for Mass Communication anywhere on the site.

An admissions blog claimed in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates who scored 130 or more but did not choose it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, quotes no university notice, and is below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so I would not plan around 130. News Central also printed the full list of cut-offs institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. Clifford is missing from it, which means there is no separate policy-meeting figure for Clifford to quote.

Safe target score for Mass Communication at Clifford (my advice)

Mass Communication is one of the most requested Arts and Social Science courses in Nigeria. Clifford’s applicant pool is small, but I would still give myself room above the floor. These bands are my own reading; Clifford has not published them.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Clifford Mass Communication
Below 150Not eligible for any Clifford degree course
150 to 169Eligible; the right O’level credits and an early application matter most
170 to 194Good chance
195 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 175 or more. Many state universities ask for more than 150 for Mass Communication, so that score also protects you if Clifford is not your only choice.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Mass Communication

Subjects are where Mass Communication applicants most often slip. JAMB’s brochure has two different entries for the course, and Clifford’s own page is stricter than the entry JAMB links to Clifford. Here is each rule side by side.

RequirementWhat appliesSource
UTME subjects (Clifford)Literature in English, one other Arts subject and another Arts or Social Science subjectClifford requirements page
UTME subjects (JAMB entry linked to Clifford)Any three Arts or Social Science subjectsJAMB brochure, Social and Management Sciences entry (Myschool reprint)
UTME subjects (JAMB second entry)Literature in English, Economics and GovernmentJAMB brochure, Administration entry (Myschool reprint)
O’level (Clifford)Five credits in English Language, one science subject, Mathematics and Literature in EnglishClifford requirements page
O’level (JAMB entry linked to Clifford)Five credits in English Language and four other Arts or Social Science subjectsJAMB brochure
SittingsNot more than twoClifford requirements page
Clifford remark in the JAMB brochureNone in either entryMyschool reprint of the brochure

For Clifford, register Use of English, Literature in English, Government and one Arts subject such as CRS or History. Literature is compulsory on Clifford’s page, and you need one more Arts subject beside it, so a set made only of Literature, Economics and Government does not fit Clifford’s wording. CRS or History with Government fits Clifford and the JAMB entry that lists Clifford.

If you want the same combination to work at universities that follow JAMB’s stricter entry (Literature, Economics and Government), you cannot satisfy both lists with three subjects. Decide which school is your first choice, then check each university’s rule on the JAMB e-brochure before you register.

The O’level is the other trap. Clifford asks for a credit in Mathematics and a credit in one science subject, such as Biology, Agricultural Science or Physics. Arts students who dropped science early, or who have a pass in Mathematics, should fix that before applying. Your fifth credit can be Government, CRS, Economics or another relevant subject.

Direct Entry into Mass Communication at Clifford

Clifford asks for two A-level passes in Literature in English and one other Arts subject, and its page says Direct Entry candidates must also meet the UTME O’level requirements above. That means the Mathematics and science credits apply to you too. JAMB’s broader entry accepts two A-level passes in any Arts or Social Science subjects, but Clifford’s own rule is the one its admissions office will apply.

  • Direct Entry students start at 200 level.
  • All Direct Entry candidates sit Clifford’s screening test, except JUPEB candidates.
  • A complete transcript or statement of result is required before admission.
  • GST courses remain compulsory, and Clifford grants no whole-session exemptions.

Clifford’s Mass Communication requirements say nothing about ND or HND holders in Mass Communication. If that is your route, ask the admissions office whether it will be accepted before you register for Direct Entry.

Clifford Post-UTME screening for Mass Communication

Clifford has not published a screening date, form fee or test format for Mass Communication in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm two things. The undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in “via Post UTME or Direct Entry”, and the Transfer and Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a university screening test, with JUPEB candidates the only exception. Applications go through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.

An October 2025 blog post said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither claim appears on Clifford’s website, so call the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example compares scores with the 150 floor and my target score. In case a test is set, it also uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME score divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). The method is my illustration, not Clifford’s.

  1. Amarachi: UTME 183, credits in English, Mathematics, Literature in English, Biology and Government in one sitting. She is 33 above the floor and 8 above my target.
  2. If there is a test: Amarachi scores 64%. 183 divided by 8 is 22.875; half of 64 is 32. Her illustrative aggregate is 54.875.
  3. Tobenna: UTME 166 (20.75) and 78% at screening (39). His aggregate is 59.75, ahead of Amarachi with 17 fewer UTME marks.
  4. Kosisochukwu: UTME 214, but no science credit and a D7 in Mathematics. Clifford’s page requires both, so her score cannot carry her.

If a test is set, expect English comprehension, general knowledge and current affairs. Reading a newspaper daily for a few weeks before screening is cheap preparation that also helps in an interview.

Clifford University Mass Communication school fees and acceptance fee

Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website, under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. Mass Communication appears under the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. The programme figures carry only the label “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers, especially hostel and feeding.

ItemAmount (2026/2027)Who pays
Acceptance feeN150,000New students, once
Matriculation feeN50,000100 level only
Mass Communication programme amountN825,500Each session

In 2026/2027 terms, a new 100-level Mass Communication student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,025,500 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. You can pay the programme amount in full, or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a message someone forwards to you.

How to apply for Mass Communication at Clifford, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Mass Communication with Use of English, Literature in English, Government and CRS or History, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  4. Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose Mass Communication, fill the form and keep your printout.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Mass Communication candidates will be screened.
  6. Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.

Warning

Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.

Studying Mass Communication at Clifford University

Mass Communication at Clifford is listed under the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, whose degrees carry the B.Sc. (Hons.) title on the requirements page. The usual length in Nigeria is four years, or three through Direct Entry; Clifford’s page does not give the duration.

Is Clifford Mass Communication accredited?

Not confirmed. The eight programmes Clifford announced as fully accredited by the NUC in March 2023 did not include Mass Communication. The announcement called them “eight more”, so earlier programmes may have been accredited before then, but I found no NUC result for this one. Ask the department for its NUC status before you pay.

What you will study

Clifford has not posted its course outline. Mass Communication degrees in Nigeria usually include:

  • Foundations: introduction to mass communication, communication theory and media history.
  • Journalism: news writing and reporting, feature and editorial writing, and editing.
  • Broadcasting: radio and television production, presentation and scriptwriting.
  • Strategic communication: public relations, advertising and marketing communication.
  • Law, ethics and research: media law and ethics, communication research methods and a final-year project.
  • Practice: an industrial attachment with a media house or agency.

Graduates work as reporters and editors, broadcasters and producers, PR and corporate communication officers, advertising and digital media staff, and information officers in government and NGOs.

Mistakes Mass Communication applicants make

  • Leaving out Literature in English: Clifford names it as a UTME subject and an O’level credit.
  • No science credit: Clifford’s O’level list includes one science subject.
  • A pass in Mathematics: Clifford asks for a credit for this course.
  • Copying another school’s combination: JAMB has two Mass Communication entries, and they differ.
  • Treating 150 as admission: it only makes you eligible to be considered.
