FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

FUAHSE set 200 as the cut-off mark for Biomedical Engineering. See the official list, a safe target, why JAMB uses Physics, Chemistry and Biology, O’level rules, screening, CAPS steps and NUC and COREN status.

The FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering cut-off mark is 200 in the UTME. The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE) set that figure on its official 2026/2027 UTME admission cut-off list. Biomedical Engineering is the oldest engineering course at FUAHSE: it was among the first 16 programmes NUC approved in December 2024, years ahead of Mechanical, Electrical and Mechatronics.

2027/2028 update: FUAHSE cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Two points catch many applicants out. First, JAMB’s subject combination for Biomedical Engineering is Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with no Mathematics in the UTME, unlike most engineering courses. Second, the course has NUC approval but no COREN accreditation record yet. Below I cover the official figures, the score I would aim for, the subjects, screening, CAPS steps and what the approval position means for you.

What I could not confirm: whether the course appears on JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses (the list would not load for me) and any COREN visit. If you want a second option in Enugu, ESUT also runs Biomedical Engineering, on its general 160 line in 2026/2027.

Warning

FUAHSE’s admissions page warns that fake admission information about the university is circulating on Facebook. Its official channels are fuahse.edu.ng/admissions and the e-portal at eportal.fuahse.edu.ng, and every genuine offer also shows on JAMB CAPS. Nobody can sell you a place, so don’t pay anyone who promises one.

In 2025/2026, the first year FUAHSE admitted degree students, the only published bar was the general 150, and Biomedical Engineering (B.Eng.) was one of 16 courses on offer. A year later FUAHSE put it at 200. I would expect it to stay at 200 or move up, because the course draws science candidates who are also eyeing Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography.

All FUAHSE cut-off marks for 2026/2027

2026/2027 cut-offFUAHSE courses (names as on the e-portal)

180Health Care Management, Occupational Therapy, Parasitology and Entomology, Water Hygiene and Sanitation
170Speech Therapy, Community Health, Health Information
150Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology

Biomedical Engineering is the one engineering course at FUAHSE that uses the same UTME subjects as the health courses. That gives you more fallback options than other engineering applicants. A Physics, Chemistry and Biology candidate who misses 200 can still be considered for courses lower on the list, such as Health Care Management (180) or the basic medical sciences at 150, if FUAHSE offers a change of course.

Safe target score for Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE (my advice)

FUAHSE does not publish its last admitted score. This is my judgement.

Your UTME scoreMy read for FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering
Below 200Not eligible at FUAHSE; consider ESUT (160) or FUAHSE courses below 200
200 to 214Eligible, near the line
215 to 229Competitive with strong Physics and Mathematics grades
230 and aboveStrong; you also clear Medical Laboratory Science and Physiotherapy at 230

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for at least 215, ideally 225 or more. Biomedical Engineering has a full year’s head start on FUAHSE’s other engineering courses and is the one named in every report on the university’s programmes, so expect more applicants.

Catchment and quota

FUAHSE has not published a catchment list or a quota. In July 2026 COREN said NUC and JAMB had approved capacity-based admission quotas for engineering programmes (ThisDay, 8 July 2026), which may keep class sizes small.

UTME subject combination and O’level for FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering

RequirementBiomedical Engineering (JAMB general entry)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (FUAHSE has not published a different list)
SittingsNot stated by FUAHSE
Direct Entry (FUAHSE notice)ND, HND or first degree plus relevant O’level credits
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure, general)Two A’level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Biology (or Zoology or Botany) and Mathematics

This is JAMB’s brochure entry for Biomedical Engineering, reprinted by Myschool and checked on 30 October 2026. Its only special remarks are for UNILORIN, which asks for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the UTME, and ABUAD. There is no FUAHSE remark, so the general Physics, Chemistry and Biology combination applies. Some guides say Biomedical Engineering takes Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry everywhere; that is the UNILORIN exception, not the rule.

Mathematics still matters. You need an O’level credit in it, and engineering mathematics runs through the whole degree. If your Mathematics grade is a C6, I would think hard before choosing this course over Medical Laboratory Science or Physiotherapy.

Course name to pick on JAMB: JAMB’s brochure lists this course as Biomedical Engineering, and FUAHSE’s cut-off page calls it Biomedical Engineering. I could not open JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses (the Myschool reprint would not load for me), so I can’t confirm that the course appears under FUAHSE on JAMB’s portal or exactly how it is spelt there. The course was in FUAHSE’s 2025/2026 intake and on its 2026/2027 cut-off list, and the Post-UTME form took JAMB registration numbers, so it very likely runs through JAMB. At registration, ask the centre to show FUAHSE’s course options on screen. If the course is not there, do not pick a look-alike; choose another course or school and plan a change of course once FUAHSE confirms the course is on JAMB’s list.

Worked example for a Biomedical Engineering candidate

FUAHSE has not published an aggregate formula, so I measure the gap to 200 and to my target instead.

Take Chinonso, who scored 224 with B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, B2 in Chemistry, A1 in Biology and B3 in English from one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 224 minus 200 = 24. She clears the Biomedical Engineering cut-off by 24 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 224 minus 215 = 9. She is in the competitive range.
  3. O’level check: all five required credits in one sitting, uploaded to CAPS.
  4. My advice: a strong application. She is 6 marks short of Medical Laboratory Science (230), so Biomedical Engineering is the right first choice for her.

Kenechukwu scored 188. 188 minus 200 = minus 12. He misses Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE. His score clears the 180 line for Health Care Management, though FUAHSE has not published that course’s subject rules, and his Physics, Chemistry and Biology combination fits ESUT’s Biomedical Engineering on the 160 line.

How to apply for Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose FUAHSE and Biomedical Engineering, with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. If FUAHSE was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before its screening form opens.
  3. Upload your O’level on CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre, early. Universities read your grades from CAPS.
  4. Fill the FUAHSE screening form: go to eportal.fuahse.edu.ng and open the Post-UTME application form for the session. UTME candidates enter their JAMB registration number; Direct Entry candidates start with a phone number. Blogs reported a fee of ₦2,000 for 2026/2027; the invoice the portal generates is what counts.
  5. Print your slip and keep checking: FUAHSE has not published whether it holds a test, so watch the portal and the official admissions page after you submit.
  6. Check your status: use FUAHSE’s admission status page and JAMB CAPS. An offer is only real once it appears on CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: FUAHSE has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the FUAHSE e-portal, and keep every receipt for clearance.

In July 2025 FUAHSE’s management also warned that giving or collecting money for admission is forbidden, as Myschool reported. Pay nothing outside the e-portal.

FUAHSE is a federal university, so its 2026/2027 admissions fall under the deadline JAMB set for public universities: 31 October 2026 (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). That date has now passed. I found no report of when FUAHSE uploaded its 2026/2027 list, so if you applied this year, check CAPS and FUAHSE’s status page now, and read our JAMB CAPS guide to understand each status.

Studying Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE

Biomedical Engineering is in the Faculty of Health Engineering and Technology at FUAHSE’s campus on Dental Avenue, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. The award is a B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering. A B.Eng. in Nigeria normally takes five years; FUAHSE has not published its own duration.

Is FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering accredited?

  • March 2024: the Federal Government approved the upgrade of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Trans-Ekulu, into FUAHSE.
  • October 2024: an NUC team began checking 18 of the 22 programmes FUAHSE’s Senate had approved for take-off in 2024/2025, using NUC’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards as the yardstick (The Sun, 31 October 2024).
  • December 2024: FUAHSE announced NUC approval for its first 16 degree programmes, and Biomedical Engineering was on that list. The university’s own news page carries the list, and Journalist101 and Vanguard reported it on 19 December 2024.
  • May 2026: the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, said NUC approval now covered 27 programmes: the original 16 plus 11 newer ones (The Sun, 9 May 2026).
  • 2026/2027: FUAHSE’s official cut-off list carries 28 courses, the original 16 plus 12 newer ones. That is one more than the 27 approvals the Vice-Chancellor described.

That is NUC approval to run the course, and Biomedical Engineering has it. I found no NUC accreditation result yet, which is normal while the first students are in their early years.

COREN, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, registers engineers and accredits university engineering programmes. Its public page of accreditation visits to Nigerian universities names other universities (UNN and ESUT among them) and says nothing about FUAHSE, and I found no COREN report, notice or news item that names FUAHSE. For a department this young that is expected, because accreditation visits normally come once students reach the later years. Still, a B.Eng. that COREN has not accredited by the time you graduate can slow your registration as an engineer, so ask the department when it expects COREN’s visit before you accept.

What you study

  • Early years: engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, programming and workshop practice.
  • Engineering core: circuits and electronics, mechanics, materials and signals.
  • Biomedical subjects: anatomy and physiology for engineers, biomaterials, biomechanics, medical instrumentation and imaging, and rehabilitation engineering.
  • Careers: hospital clinical engineering, medical device sales and service, imaging equipment support, regulation and research.

FUAHSE’s setting helps here. Biomedical engineers maintain and design the equipment that radiographers, laboratory scientists and physiotherapists use, and FUAHSE trains all three on one campus, along with Prosthetics and Orthotics, the closest cousin to rehabilitation engineering.

For UTME revision, use our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus, then check when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Mistakes that cost Biomedical Engineering applicants

  • Registering Mathematics instead of Biology: the general JAMB entry is Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Mathematics belongs to UNILORIN’s exception.
  • Ignoring O’level Mathematics: you need the credit even though it is not a UTME subject.
  • Reading 150 as the course mark: Biomedical Engineering needed 200 in 2026/2027.
  • O’level not on CAPS: upload it early.
  • Assuming COREN status: ask the department about its COREN timeline.

If FUAHSE was not your first choice, read how to change institution on JAMB before screening opens.

FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Do I need Mathematics in JAMB for Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE? No. JAMB’s general entry is Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, with no FUAHSE remark. You still need an O’level credit in Mathematics.

Is 210 enough for Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE? Yes for eligibility, since the 2026/2027 cut-off is 200. It is slightly below my safe target of 215, so good O’level grades will help.

Is FUAHSE Biomedical Engineering approved by NUC? Yes. It was among the first 16 programmes NUC approved for FUAHSE in December 2024. No NUC accreditation or COREN record exists yet.

Is Biomedical Engineering at FUAHSE B.Eng or B.Sc? B.Eng. FUAHSE’s 2025/2026 admission list, as reprinted, gave the award as B.Eng. Biomedical Engineering.
