The ABSU cut off mark for Computer Science is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Abia State University (ABSU) set for every regular degree course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, for candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice. ABSU did not publish a separate Computer Science figure, so 150 only gets you screened. Computer Science is one of the most crowded science courses at ABSU, and the candidates who get in usually score well above it.
2027/2028 update: ABSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Two things on this page matter more than the cut-off. First, NUC’s own accreditation record shows ABSU Computer Science on interim status, and I could not find a later result. Second, ABSU has new NUC approval for Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence, which changes what some candidates should apply for. Below are the official figures, my safe target score, the exact JAMB subjects, Direct Entry rules, the screening steps and what the degree leads to.
ABSU Computer Science cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| ABSU minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, ABSU first or second choice | ABSU notice reprinted by Osilight and Myschool, June 2026 |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Departmental cut-off | Not published | ABSU released no per-course figures |
| My safe target score | 200 or more | My advice, not an ABSU rule |
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Computer Science | ABSU’s JAMB course list (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, plus one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits: English, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |

ABSU Computer Science cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Lowest UTME score ABSU accepted for online screening in any regular degree course (ABSU as first or second choice) | ABSU notice, reprinted by Osilight and Myschool, 8 to 9 June 2026 |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for every Nigerian university | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | I could not open an ABSU notice for that session | Unverified |
| Computer Science figure | None published | Blog “departmental cut-off” tables cite no ABSU document | Unofficial |
ABSU’s 2026/2027 notice gave one figure for all courses. Any page that prints an official ABSU cut-off for Computer Science alone, for any year, is quoting a figure ABSU itself never released. The practical cut-off each year is the score of the last candidate admitted into the course, and ABSU does not publish it.
Safe target score for Computer Science at ABSU (my advice)
Computer Science pulls in far more applicants than the department can take, at ABSU as at most Nigerian universities. You are ranked against everyone who applied for the course, so 150 is the floor, and the real contest happens above it. This table is my advice from how Computer Science behaves at state universities in the South East, not an ABSU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for ABSU Computer Science |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for screening |
| 150 to 179 | Eligible, but you will need excellent O’level grades and some luck; have a backup course ready |
| 180 to 199 | A fair chance with strong credits from one sitting |
| 200 to 219 | Good |
| 220 and above | Strong |
I would aim for 200 or more. If you land between 150 and 180, look early at Statistics or Mathematics at ABSU, which use almost the same UTME subjects and draw fewer applicants. A change of course on JAMB is easier to do before ABSU starts admitting than after.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for Computer Science at ABSU
| Requirement | What the JAMB brochure says |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Computer Science (listed under Sciences on ABSU’s course list) |
| UTME | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography |
| O’level | Five SSCE credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics plus two other science subjects |
| Direct Entry (A-level) | Two A-level passes in science subjects including Mathematics |
| Direct Entry (NCE) | NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject |
| ABSU-specific remarks | None; the brochure’s many remarks for this course name other universities only |
For the UTME, write Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. The brochure also allows Biology, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography as the fourth subject, and ABSU has no remark narrowing that list. I still prefer Chemistry because it keeps Computer Engineering, Industrial Physics and most other science courses open if you need to change course later. Economics or Geography would close many of those doors.
The O’level rule is where Economics candidates get caught. The brochure asks for Physics plus two other science subjects, so a credit in Economics or Commerce does not count toward those two. Chemistry and Biology are the usual pair; Further Mathematics or Agricultural Science may also work, but confirm with ABSU before relying on them. Mathematics and English must be credits.
Direct Entry
The brochure’s general Direct Entry line accepts two A-level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or an NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject. It has no ABSU remark for Computer Science, so ABSU’s own position on ND and HND holders for this course is not in the brochure. The 2026/2027 notice says Direct Entry candidates also need the basic five O’level credits. Ask the admissions office which level you would enter before you buy a Direct Entry form.
What about Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence?
The Whistler reported on 29 September 2026, quoting ABSU’s Media Unit, that NUC approved ten new ABSU programmes effective from 2026/2027, including B.Sc Software Engineering, Cyber Security and Artificial Intelligence. Candidates were told to wait for guidelines from the Admissions Office. None of the three appeared on ABSU’s JAMB course list when I checked on 29 October 2026, so for now Computer Science is the computing degree you can actually register for at ABSU. If the new courses show up on JAMB before your registration, compare them with Computer Science before you choose.
How ABSU screens applicants
The 2026/2027 notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu. I could not open the original on the ABSU website, so the details below come from two reprints that agree: Osilight (posted 9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026).
| Detail | What the 2026/2027 notice said |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice, or who changed to ABSU, and scored 150 or more in the UTME |
| Direct Entry | Basic five O’level credit passes under ABSU’s entry requirements |
| Where to register | Online at www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng |
| What to upload | UTME result, O’level result and degree certificate where applicable, on the ABSU portal (www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng) and the JAMB portal |
| Fee | ₦2,000 by e-payment through the banks named in the notice, or by debit card |
| Missing the screening | Candidates who do not register “will not be considered for admission” |
| Written test | Not mentioned; the notice describes online document screening |
| Closing date | Not stated in the reprints |
The bank names came out garbled in the reprint, so follow the payment options shown on the ABSU portal itself rather than a list copied from a blog. Because the notice describes no written test, your UTME score and the quality of your O’level result are the two things ABSU has in front of it when it ranks you.
Worked example for Computer Science candidates
ABSU has not published an aggregate formula, and the 2026/2027 notice describes document screening without a test. To show how your O’level can change your position, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not ABSU’s formula.
- Chiamaka scored 205 with B3 in English, A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry and B3 in Biology. UTME points: 205 ÷ 8 = 25.625. O’level points: 8 + 10 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 43. Illustrative total: 68.625.
- Obinna scored 228 with C6 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C6 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry and C5 in Biology. UTME points: 228 ÷ 8 = 28.5. O’level points: 5 + 6 + 5 + 5 + 6 = 27. Illustrative total: 55.5.
- The result: Chiamaka leads by 13.125 points. Obinna scored 23 marks more in the UTME and still trails, because weak credits left him 16 O’level points behind. In a crowded course like Computer Science, that gap can decide who gets the offer.
How to apply for Computer Science at ABSU, step by step
- Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: choose Computer Science at Abia State University with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or another subject the brochure allows). ABSU accepted first and second choice candidates in 2026/2027, but first choice is still the cleaner position. To move ABSU up later, use a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre, once your result is out. Make sure the upload includes English, Mathematics, Physics and two other science subjects.
- Register for ABSU screening: when the notice is out, go to www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) and upload your UTME result and O’level on the ABSU portal.
- Keep your receipts: save the payment receipt and the printout of your completed screening form. You may need both at clearance.
- Check your status: watch the ABSU portal and your JAMB CAPS page. ABSU offers show on CAPS before anything else.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: ABSU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your ABSU portal invoice.
Warning
Every genuine ABSU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Anyone who asks for money to “process” a Computer Science place is not acting for ABSU. Pay only through the ABSU portal.
JAMB kept 31 October 2026 as the date public universities such as ABSU should finish 2026/2027 admissions (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). If you applied this year, the window runs until then, so check CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.
Computer Science at ABSU: the programme
Computer Science sits with ABSU’s science departments, grouped under the College of Biological and Physical Sciences on the main campus at Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA. ABSU began in 1981 as Imo State University and took its present name after Abia State was created in 1991.
What you study
ABSU has not published a course outline that I could reach. Computer Science degrees in Nigeria follow the NUC benchmark, and you can expect:
- Foundations: mathematics (calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics), physics and introductory programming in the first year.
- Programming and theory: data structures, algorithms, programming languages, automata and computability.
- Systems: computer architecture, operating systems, networks and database management.
- Applied areas: software engineering, web and mobile development, artificial intelligence, information security and numerical methods.
- Practical work: SIWES industrial training and a final-year software project.
Accreditation, degree and duration
NUC’s publication of accreditation results from 1990 to 2025 lists ABSU Computer Science with a full result followed by an interim result, and a maturity date of 2023. It shows no later result for the course. Interim accreditation means NUC found gaps the university had to fix, and a 2023 maturity date means a revisit was due. I could not confirm what happened after that, so ask the department about the current NUC status before you accept an offer. Note that the same NUC record shows full status for ABSU’s Information and Communication Technology programme and for Computer Engineering. The degree title is usually B.Sc Computer Science, and four years is the normal length for UTME entrants; ABSU’s own page confirming either was not available.

For revision in your fourth subject, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus is a good place to start. If you are writing in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and when results are out, see how to check your JAMB result. If your score or subjects do not fit, our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch before admission closes.
Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants an ABSU place
- Stopping at 150: it makes you eligible, nothing more, in the most crowded science course.
- Counting Economics as a science credit: the O’level line wants Physics plus two other science subjects.
- No Physics credit: it is compulsory in both the UTME and O’level.
- Registering a course that is not on JAMB yet: check that Software Engineering, Cyber Security or AI appears on ABSU’s JAMB list before choosing it.
- Not registering for screening: the notice says such candidates will not be considered.
- Missing the CAPS window: JAMB gives four weeks to accept.
ABSU Computer Science: frequently asked questions
Is 180 good for Computer Science in ABSU? 180 clears the 150 minimum comfortably, and with strong O’level credits from one sitting it gives you a fair chance. Computer Science is competitive, so I would treat 200 as the safe zone.
Can I use Economics in JAMB for Computer Science at ABSU? Yes. The brochure lets Economics be the fourth UTME subject and has no ABSU remark against it. You still need credits in Physics and two other science subjects at O’level.
Is Computer Science in ABSU accredited? NUC’s published results show interim accreditation as the latest result for ABSU Computer Science, with a 2023 maturity date and no later result listed. Ask the department for its current NUC status.
Does ABSU offer Software Engineering or Cyber Security? NUC approved both, along with Artificial Intelligence, from 2026/2027, according to ABSU’s Media Unit. They were not on ABSU’s JAMB course list when I checked, so wait for the Admissions Office guidelines.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the first and second choice rule, the Direct Entry line, the ₦2,000 fee, the registration and upload steps and the warning about candidates who fail to register come from ABSU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, as reprinted by Osilight (9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026); I could not open the original on the ABSU website. The national minimum of 150, the four-week CAPS window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026), and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities from Nairametrics (28 September 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Computer Science, which ABSU’s JAMB course list links to. The accreditation history comes from NUC’s accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 publication. The new programmes come from The Whistler (29 September 2026). Campus and history details come from Wikipedia. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. ABSU’s fees, the degree title and duration were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if ABSU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
