The Caritas University cut-off mark for Mathematics and Statistics is 150 in the UTME for the 2026/2027 admission year, because 150 is JAMB’s minimum for every Nigerian university in 2026. Caritas’s own admissions page says candidates who scored “140 and above” can apply. That figure is below JAMB’s floor, so a score between 140 and 149 will not get you admitted into Mathematics and Statistics, or any other Caritas course, through JAMB CAPS. Caritas has not published a separate cut-off for Mathematics and Statistics, and it does not set a written post-UTME test.
2027/2028 update: Caritas cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
The course name needs care. Caritas’s website calls it Mathematics and Statistics, but JAMB’s course list for Caritas carries it as Mathematics with Statistics, and that is the name you must pick on your UTME or change-of-course form. Both refer to the same Faculty of Natural Sciences programme, which Caritas lists for 2026/2027.
The other issue is accreditation. The NUC’s published results show this programme’s last grade at Caritas as Interim, with a maturity date of 2017, and no later result. That is the weakest NUC record of Caritas’s five science courses. I explain what it means and what I would do further down. If a fully accredited record matters to you, our Caritas cut-off mark for Computer Science post covers a course in the same faculty with Full accreditation to 2029.
Caritas cut-off mark for Mathematics and Statistics at a glance

Why the 140 on Caritas’s website does not work for 2026/2027
At its 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, JAMB fixed 150 as the lowest UTME score any university may admit with for the 2026/2027 session. A university can ask for more than 150. It cannot go below it, because every admission has to be processed on JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), and JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. A candidate with 145 cannot be offered Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas on CAPS, whatever the school’s page says.
The 140 on the Caritas page looks like wording carried over from older admission notices. Its other admission notice, titled for the 2025/2026 session, still mentions “the 2019 JAMB UTME” and an application closing date of 15 February 2025, which tells you how old some of that text is. Read 140 as Caritas’s historic figure and plan with 150.
What to do if you scored 140 to 149
- Rewrite the UTME in 2027: aim well above 150 so the floor is never in doubt, and keep Caritas and the exact course name on your form.
- Take JUPEB at Caritas: the admissions page says JUPEB admission is open for 2026/2027. JUPEB passes can take you into 200 level through Direct Entry, without a UTME score, in a later session. Caritas’s Direct Entry remark for Mathematics with Statistics accepts JUPEB passes in Mathematics and one of Physics, Statistics, Chemistry or Economics.
- Consider a polytechnic ND: JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum for polytechnics is 100. An ND followed later by Direct Entry is a longer route, but it keeps you moving. Caritas’s remark accepts an ND at lower credit in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry for Direct Entry.
Caritas Mathematics and Statistics cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 | Caritas’s stated minimum (“140 and above”) for all courses | Official Caritas page, but below JAMB’s floor |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official; this is the figure that applies |
| 2025/2026 (as titled) | 140 | Minimum in a Caritas notice whose body refers to the 2019 UTME and a February 2025 closing date | Official but recycled text |
| Any year | None | A separate Mathematics and Statistics cut-off | Never published by Caritas in any notice I found |
Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat the 140 figure and the absence of a written post-UTME test. They add nothing official beyond Caritas’s own pages, and none of them mention JAMB’s 150 floor.
Safe target score for Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas (my advice)
Caritas does not publish how many candidates apply for each course or the score of the last person admitted. The table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, based on how private universities in the South East usually fill their science courses. It is not a Caritas rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not admissible on CAPS for 2026/2027 |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your subjects and O’level are right |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable |
| 180 and above | Strong. Consider whether Computer Science suits you as well |
Mathematics courses rarely fill first at Nigerian private universities, so 150 to 160 with the right subjects is usually enough. My bigger advice for this course is about accreditation, below, more than about the score. For the 2027 UTME I would still aim for at least 160 so that you can move to Computer Science if you decide to.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Caritas Mathematics and Statistics
| Requirement | What applies to Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Mathematics with Statistics (Caritas’s website says Mathematics and Statistics) |
| UTME subjects (JAMB general rule) | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry or Biology |
| Caritas remark on UTME | Caritas requires Mathematics, Physics and one of Chemistry or Economics |
| Combination to register | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| O’level (Caritas remark in the brochure) | Five credits in English, Mathematics and any three of Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Economics and Geography |
| O’level (Caritas Faculty of Natural Sciences) | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology |
| Sittings and exam bodies | Not more than two sittings; WAEC, NECO and NABTEB can be combined |
| Awaiting results | Accepted if results will be available at resumption |
Caritas’s remark differs from JAMB’s general rule in two ways. It accepts Economics as the fourth subject, which the general rule does not, and it does not mention Biology, which the general rule does. If you register English, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, Caritas’s remark does not cover you. Chemistry works under both rules and also fits Computer Science and Industrial Chemistry, so it is the choice I would make.
On O’level, the brochure remark is broad enough that a candidate with Economics and Geography credits could qualify, but Caritas’s faculty page lists Physics, Chemistry and Biology for the whole faculty. Credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology meet both. If you have Further Mathematics, it helps under the brochure remark.
Direct Entry into Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas
Caritas’s Direct Entry remark for Mathematics with Statistics in JAMB’s brochure accepts any one of these:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry.
- NCE, ND or HND at lower credit in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics or Chemistry.
- GCE A’Level, IJMB or JUPEB passes in Mathematics and one of Physics, Statistics, Chemistry or Economics.
- JAMB’s general rule, for comparison, asks for two A’Level passes in Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry, or NCE merit in Mathematics and either Physics or Chemistry.
Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB, choose Caritas and the exact course name, and are admitted on CAPS like UTME candidates. If your former institution has to verify your result on JAMB’s e-Facility, start that early, because Caritas cannot finish your admission until JAMB sees it.
Does Caritas write post-UTME for Mathematics and Statistics?
No. Caritas’s admission notice states that there is no post-UTME screening test, and older notices and blogs say the same. That notice is old text, though. The version on the new website is headed “Admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session” but asks for a minimum score “in the 2019 JAMB UTME” and gives 15 February 2025 as the closing date, so it was clearly copied forward from earlier years. The no-test rule has held for years, but confirm it with Caritas for your own session.
Without a test, your file decides. Caritas checks that your UTME score meets JAMB’s 150, that your O’level has the subjects and credits for Mathematics and Statistics, that your UTME subjects fit the course, and that your result is on CAPS. Candidates who did not pick Caritas first can still apply, according to the admissions page, and candidates awaiting results can apply if the results will be out by resumption.
Worked example (illustrative)
Caritas has published no aggregate formula, and with no test there is nothing to combine. What you can check is whether your file clears each requirement. These two candidates are invented to show how.
Obinna scored 158 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His WAEC has C4 in English, A1 in Mathematics, B3 in Further Mathematics, C5 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry and C6 in Biology.
- Score: 158 minus 150 = 8. He clears JAMB’s floor, with a thin margin.
- UTME subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry match Caritas’s remark.
- O’level: English, Mathematics and three of the listed subjects, plus the full faculty list.
- Verdict: admissible. Before paying, he should get the programme’s current NUC status from Caritas in writing.
Ngozi scored 170 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. The score is comfortable and the combination passes JAMB’s general rule, but Caritas’s remark lists Chemistry or Economics, not Biology. She should confirm with Caritas whether it will accept her combination, and if not, use the change of course window to move to a course whose rule she meets.
How to apply for Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: select Mathematics with Statistics at Caritas University with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Caritas accepts candidates who chose another school first, but you will then need a JAMB change of institution so that Caritas can admit you on CAPS.
- Check your score: you need at least 150. See how to check your JAMB result if you have not printed it.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre. Caritas cannot recommend you for admission without it.
- Apply to Caritas: use the admissions page at caritasuni.edu.ng/admissions. It says admission is open for 2026/2027 and points to admissions contacts. Caritas has not published the form fee or a closing date there, so ask the admissions office (info@caritasuni.edu.ng) before you pay anything.
- Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer when it appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and school fees, then clear: Caritas has not published its 2026/2027 acceptance fee or school fees. Pay only to the university’s own account after receiving the official figures.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). Caritas’s page says admission into the 2026/2027 session is open; any offer still has to appear on CAPS before that JAMB date.
Fees are the gap in Caritas’s published information. A blog reprint of Caritas’s 2021/2022 fee schedule (O3schools, February 2026) puts Natural Sciences fees at ₦248,000 and ₦398,000 a year, depending on level. Those figures are five sessions old, and Caritas’s recent notice says fees were revised without giving amounts, so use them only as a rough guide. The admissions page also links to the NELFUND student loan portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng); ask the bursary whether Caritas students can currently apply.
Check before you pay
The NUC’s published results show Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas last graded Interim, with a 2017 maturity date and no later result. Ask Caritas’s Registry for the programme’s current NUC accreditation status, in writing, before you accept the offer or pay fees.
Studying Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas University
Mathematics and Statistics is one of five programmes in Caritas’s Faculty of Natural Sciences at Amorji-Nike, Enugu. Nigerian B.Sc. mathematics degrees normally take four years through the UTME and three through Direct Entry; Caritas has not stated the duration on the pages I read.
What you study
- Early years: calculus, algebra, introductory statistics, physics and computing.
- Mathematics core: linear algebra, real and complex analysis, differential equations and numerical methods.
- Statistics core: probability, distribution theory, statistical inference, sampling, regression and design of experiments.
- Applied work: statistical software, data analysis and a final-year project, usually alongside a SIWES placement.
Accreditation
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas with three results: Interim, Full, Interim, and a maturity date of 2017. Biochemistry, Microbiology and Industrial Chemistry at Caritas have results running to 2026 or 2027, and Computer Science runs to 2029. This one stops at 2017.
Interim accreditation means the NUC found deficiencies that had to be corrected before a re-visit. A 2017 maturity date with no later entry means the compilation shows no result after that. It does not prove the programme is unaccredited today, since the NUC may have visited and not yet published the result. It is still a gap you should close before paying fees.
What I would do: ask the Registry for the programme’s current NUC status and the date of its last visit, in writing. If Caritas cannot show a current result, consider Computer Science at Caritas, or Mathematics or Statistics at a university whose NUC record for the course is current.
For context on the school itself: in 2012 the NUC suspended the operating licences of several private universities, and Channels TV reported in August 2012 that Caritas was among those still under suspension at that point. The suspension was later lifted, and the NUC’s results since then show Caritas programmes being visited and graded in the normal way, including a Full result for Banking and Finance after a November 2024 visit.

Mistakes that cost Mathematics and Statistics applicants a Caritas place
- Trusting the 140 figure: anything below 150 cannot be admitted on CAPS for 2026/2027.
- Picking the wrong JAMB name: select “Mathematics with Statistics” at Caritas. Similar names such as “Mathematics and Statistics” or “Mathematics / Statistics” exist in JAMB’s brochure for other schools.
- Registering Biology as the fourth subject: Caritas’s remark lists Chemistry or Economics.
- Not checking accreditation: the NUC’s last published result for this course matured in 2017.
- Leaving O’level off CAPS: without it Caritas cannot recommend you, even with a good score.
- Paying people who promise a place: with no post-UTME test, there is nothing to “help” with. Every genuine offer appears on your CAPS page.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee, clearance and registration at Caritas are separate steps.
If you are planning for 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, if you need to switch courses or schools, JAMB change of course.
Caritas University Mathematics and Statistics cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Is Mathematics and Statistics accredited at Caritas University? The NUC’s published results show its last grade as Interim, maturing in 2017, with no later result. Ask Caritas for the current NUC status in writing before paying fees.
Which JAMB course name should I choose for Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas? Choose Mathematics with Statistics. That is how JAMB lists the course for Caritas, even though Caritas’s website says Mathematics and Statistics.
Can I use Biology for Mathematics with Statistics at Caritas? Caritas’s remark in JAMB’s brochure asks for Mathematics, Physics and one of Chemistry or Economics, so Biology is not covered. Register Chemistry.
Is 150 enough for Mathematics and Statistics at Caritas? 150 is the legal minimum and makes you eligible. With the right subjects and O’level, it is usually enough for this course, but 160 or more gives you room to switch.
Sources and updates
The “140 and above” figure, the open 2026/2027 session, the rule on candidates who did not choose Caritas first, the awaiting-result rule and the faculty O’level list come from Caritas University’s admissions page and faculty pages, read on 30 October 2026. The no-test rule and the references to the 2019 UTME and a 15 February 2025 closing date are from Caritas’s notice headed “Admissions for the 2025/2026 academic session”, signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka. The 150 national minimum, the ban on admissions outside CAPS and the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026. The course name is from JAMB’s course list for Caritas University and the subject and Direct Entry rules from the JAMB brochure entry for Mathematics with Statistics, both reprinted by Myschool. Accreditation is from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026). The 2012 licence suspension is from Channels TV (7 August 2012). The accreditation reading for this course rests on one row of the NUC table (“Mathematics and Statistics Interim Full Interim 2017”). The safe target scores and the worked example are my own advice. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated when Caritas publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
