Marist Poly Science Laboratory Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Marist Poly has no departmental cut-off for Science Laboratory Technology: JAMB’s 100 minimum applies. See why Chemistry is not in the brochure UTME line, the O’level credits, how to apply and a safe 2027 target.

Marist Poly has no departmental cut-off mark for Science Laboratory Technology (SLT). The official minimum is 100 in the UTME, the score JAMB set for all polytechnics for 2026/2027, and Marist Polytechnic, Emene, Enugu, has never published a higher figure for SLT. What usually trips SLT candidates up is the subject combination, and at Marist Chemistry is not in the base UTME line for this course.

2027/2028 update: Marist Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SLT is on JAMB’s course list for Marist, and the school named ND Science Laboratory Technology in its last official advert (2025/2026). This guide sets out the UTME subjects JAMB’s brochure accepts, the O’level credits you need, how Marist admits, a safe score to aim for in 2027, and where the ND and the HND Microbiology option lead.

Marist’s 2025/2026 advert (26 June 2025) listed SLT among five ND courses open for admission. It said nothing about a score beyond JAMB’s rules. For a private polytechnic that is normal, so the 100 floor is the line that counts. Any higher “Marist SLT cut-off” you see online is a blog guess.

Safe target score for SLT at Marist Poly (my advice)

Marist has not published this table. It is my judgement as an admissions adviser.

Your UTME scoreMy read for SLT at Marist
Below 100Not eligible for full-time ND at any polytechnic
100 to 129Eligible; a fair chance with the right subjects and five clean credits
130 to 149Solid for a private polytechnic
150 and aboveComfortable. This is what I would aim for

I would aim for 150 or more in the 2027 UTME. You probably will not need it at Marist, but it lets you compare with IMT Enugu and other public polytechnics, and SLT is popular with candidates who missed Medicine or Pharmacy elsewhere, so you want room to choose.

UTME subject combination and O’level for SLT at Marist Polytechnic

RequirementWhat JAMB’s brochure says
UTME subjectsUse of English (compulsory) + any three of Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science or Physics
What that means in practiceEnglish, Mathematics, Biology (or Agricultural Science) and Physics
Chemistry in the UTMENot in the base line. Only named schools such as IMT Enugu (IMTE) and Damaturu Polytechnic have a remark accepting it; Marist has none
O’levelFive credits including Mathematics, English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Physics (the brochure makes a credit in each basic science and in English compulsory)
SittingsNot stated for Marist; most polytechnics accept not more than two
Direct EntryBrochure section is blank for this course

Most SLT candidates register Chemistry in the UTME because the course is so chemistry-heavy. On JAMB’s polytechnic brochure, though, the base line for SLT reads any three of Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science or Physics, and Chemistry is added only for schools with their own remark. Marist has no remark. If Marist is your first choice, the safe combination is English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics.

If you have already written English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics, do not panic. Ask Marist’s admission office in writing whether it will recommend you on CAPS with that combination, and keep IMT Enugu, whose remark accepts Chemistry, as a back-up.

At O’level, Chemistry still matters: you need credits in all three basic sciences, plus English Language and Mathematics. A pass in any of them is not enough.

How Marist screens SLT candidates

Marist has not published a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. Its 2025/2026 advert pointed applicants to the Apply Now link on the Admissions menu, which opens portal.maristpolytechnic.edu.ng, and told candidates who had not picked Marist to make it their first choice at a JAMB CBT centre. The school then recommends successful applicants on JAMB CAPS. So your file is judged on three things: score, UTME subjects and O’level credits.

Worked example (illustrative)

Take Adaeze, who scored 137 in English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics, and has one NECO sitting with credits in English Language (C4), Mathematics (C5), Biology (B3), Chemistry (C4) and Physics (C6).

  1. JAMB floor: 137 minus 100 = 37 marks above the minimum.
  2. Subjects: Mathematics, Biology and Physics are exactly the three the brochure lists.
  3. O’level: credits in all three basic sciences, English Language and Mathematics, in one sitting.
  4. My read: a clean file. She should apply on the portal as soon as it opens and keep checking CAPS.

Now take Obinna with 164 in English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. His score is strong, but he has no Mathematics in the UTME and he wrote Chemistry, which Marist’s brochure line does not list. A high score does not cure a subject mismatch on CAPS. He should ask Marist directly before paying for a form, and apply to IMT Enugu’s SLT as well.

How to apply for SLT at Marist Polytechnic, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN by SMS to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME e-PIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Marist Polytechnic and Science Laboratory Technology, with English, Mathematics, Biology (or Agricultural Science) and Physics.
  3. Write the UTME and clear 100: 100 is JAMB’s floor for every polytechnic in 2026/2027. Aim higher (see the safe target above).
  4. Upload your O’level on CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. A result that is not on CAPS cannot be used to admit you, and Awaiting Result candidates must upload once the result is out.
  5. Make Marist your choice: if you picked another school at registration, do a JAMB change of institution. Marist’s 2025/2026 advert told candidates to do exactly this at a JAMB CBT centre.
  6. Apply on the Marist portal: from the Admissions menu on maristpolytechnic.edu.ng, click Apply Now. It opens portal.maristpolytechnic.edu.ng, where you fill the application and upload your details.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay acceptance and school fees: pay only through channels the portal or the bursary names, then print your JAMB admission letter and complete registration.

Warning

Marist Polytechnic admits through JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who offers to “process” your admission or sell a place, and do not accept a Marist admission letter that never shows on CAPS. JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Use the official portal and email (info@maristpolytechnic.edu.ng) for questions.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, and said offers must be accepted on CAPS. If you sat the 2026 UTME and chose Marist, that window runs until 31 December 2026.

Studying Science Laboratory Technology at Marist

The ND is a two-year full-time programme on NBTE’s usual pattern, with a SIWES placement. Most SLT students take common courses in biology, chemistry and physics first, then pick an option at HND. Marist lists HND SLT with a Microbiology option; that is the only SLT option on its courses page, so if you want Biochemistry, Chemistry or Physics/Electronics at HND you may need to move elsewhere after the ND.

What you study

  • General and organic chemistry, and chemical laboratory techniques.
  • Cell biology, microbiology and basic genetics.
  • Physics for laboratory work, electronics and instrumentation.
  • Laboratory management and safety, statistics and computer applications, plus a final project.

Accreditation

NBTE lists Marist as a private polytechnic approved in 2016, and the school reported an NBTE resource inspection in September 2025. The accreditation status of the SLT programme itself is not confirmed; Marist does not publish it and we could not read NBTE’s programme tables. Ask the admission office to show the current NBTE status before you pay. It matters for HND entry elsewhere and for registration with the Institute of Science Laboratory Technology of Nigeria later on.

Marist’s courses page also shows B.Sc programmes in Microbiology, Biochemistry and Biotechnology with no partner university named. A polytechnic cannot award a degree on its own, so ask which university awards them before you consider that route.

Careers

SLT graduates work as laboratory technicians and technologists in schools, hospitals, water and food companies, breweries and research institutes. Many use the ND and HND as a route to a direct entry degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry or a related science.

Who runs Marist Polytechnic

Marist Polytechnic is a private Catholic polytechnic run by the Marist Brothers at Umuchigbo Iji-Nike, Emene, Enugu State. The Rector is Rev. Br. Anochie Okechukwu Venantius (PhD). NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists it as a private polytechnic (entry 85, P.M.B. 104 Emene) and gives 2016 as the year government approved it. The school’s courses page groups programmes into five schools: Computing and IT, Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Health/Allied/Applied Sciences, and Management Sciences.

SLT most likely sits in the Health/Allied/Applied Sciences school, but the courses page does not tie programmes to schools, so confirm your department’s name on your admission letter.

Mistakes that cost SLT applicants a Marist place

  • Registering Chemistry in the UTME: Marist has no remark accepting it for SLT; use Mathematics, Biology and Physics.
  • Dropping Mathematics from the UTME: the base line names only three subjects, so you need all three, Mathematics included.
  • A pass in one basic science: the O’level rule needs a credit in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
  • O’level not on CAPS: upload it at a JAMB centre before the school recommends anyone.
  • Paying an agent: Marist admits through its portal and CAPS only.

Marist Poly SLT cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

Can I use Chemistry in JAMB for SLT at Marist Polytechnic? JAMB’s brochure base line for SLT is any three of Mathematics, Biology/Agricultural Science and Physics, and Marist has no remark adding Chemistry. Use English, Mathematics, Biology and Physics to be safe.

What is the cut-off mark for SLT in Marist Poly? Marist has not published one. JAMB’s minimum for polytechnics is 100 for 2026/2027, and I would aim for 150 to be comfortable.

Does Marist Polytechnic offer HND in Science Laboratory Technology? Its courses page lists HND SLT with a Microbiology option. You enter with an ND and a year of industrial training, not the UTME.

Can I use NECO and WAEC together for SLT at Marist? Most polytechnics accept two sittings, and Marist has not said otherwise, but it has not published a sittings rule either. Make sure both results are uploaded on CAPS and that all five credits are covered between them.
