The GOUNI Psychology cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, sets 150 as the minimum JAMB score for “other programmes” in 2026/2027, and Psychology falls in that group. It is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and the GOUNI application form for Psychology is free.
2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Register the course on JAMB as Psychology, the name on JAMB’s course list for GOUNI. The score is rarely what stops Psychology applicants at GOUNI. The O’level is. GOUNI wants a credit in Biology as well as English and Mathematics, and its brochure remark says all five credits should come from one sitting. Its own curriculum allows two. I explain how to handle that conflict below.
This guide also covers a target score, the UTME subjects that work at GOUNI and at UNN or ESUT, how GOUNI’s online admission runs, two worked examples, the department’s course list and the accreditation position.

Is 150 enough for Psychology at GOUNI?
By GOUNI’s published rule, yes. Only Medicine and Surgery, Law and Nursing carry higher figures on the 2026/2027 list. AbsTechConnect repeated the figures on 24 May 2026, though it is a blog.
Psychology draws many applicants who missed Medicine or Nursing, and some of them hold UTME scores well above 200. GOUNI publishes no merit list, so I cannot tell you how high the admitted range went last year. My view is that 150 with a clean O’level (Biology included) is workable if you apply early, and that a higher score buys you safety if GOUNI starts ranking applicants late in the cycle.

|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for “other programmes” | Official GOUNI form page |

How GOUNI compares for Psychology in Enugu
| University | 2026/2027 figure for Psychology | UTME subject rule in the brochure |
|---|---|---|
| Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) | 150 | Any three Arts or Social Science subjects (no GOUNI remark) |
| University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) | 160 to apply for screening | Biology and two other subjects |
| Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) | 160 | Biology or Agricultural Science and two Arts or Social Science subjects |
Figures are from UNN’s screening notice of 13 July 2026 and ESUT’s Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026. Our UNN Psychology guide and ESUT Psychology guide explain those schools.
Safe target score for GOUNI Psychology (my advice)
| Your UTME score | My read for GOUNI Psychology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible at any Nigerian university in 2026/2027 |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; apply early with Biology, English and Mathematics credits in place |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable |
| 200 and above | Strong at GOUNI and well clear of UNN and ESUT’s lines |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. That clears the 160 that UNN and ESUT asked for in 2026, so you can keep a public university as first choice and GOUNI as a realistic second option through change of institution. GOUNI is private, with no catchment or state quota.
UTME subject combination and O’level for GOUNI Psychology
| Requirement | Psychology at GOUNI |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB rule) | Use of English and any three Arts or Social Science subjects |
| GOUNI UTME remark | None |
| O’level (JAMB rule) | Five credits including Government or History, English Language and three others, with a pass in Mathematics |
| GOUNI O’level remark in the brochure | Five credits including English, Mathematics and Biology, plus two other Science, Social Science or Arts subjects, at not more than one sitting |
| GOUNI’s own curriculum (Sept 2023) | Five credits including Mathematics, English and Biology, in not more than two sittings |
| GOUNI form page (all courses) | Five credits including English and Mathematics |
| JUPEB combination at GOUNI | Economics, Government and Biology |
Which three UTME subjects should you write?
JAMB’s base rule for Psychology is any three Arts or Social Science subjects, and GOUNI has no UTME remark. A combination such as Government, Economics and Literature in English or CRS fits that rule exactly.
The catch is that UNN and ESUT want Biology in the UTME for Psychology, and many applicants keep one of them as first choice. Biology, Economics and Government satisfies UNN and ESUT and matches GOUNI’s own JUPEB combination, but Biology is a science subject and sits outside JAMB’s base line for GOUNI. GOUNI’s O’level rule for Psychology is built around Biology, which suggests it would accept it, but no GOUNI document says so. If you plan to write Biology in the UTME and choose GOUNI, e-mail admissions@gouni.edu.ng first and keep the reply.
The O’level: Biology, Mathematics and the sitting question
GOUNI asks for credits in English, Mathematics and Biology, plus two more subjects. JAMB’s general rule for Psychology only needs a pass in Mathematics and does not name Biology, so candidates who read only the base line get caught here. Health Science is not mentioned as a substitute in either GOUNI source.
On sittings, the brochure remark credited to GOUNI says one sitting, while GOUNI’s department curriculum, dated September 2023, says not more than two. The curriculum is the newer and more specific document, but you lose nothing by planning for one sitting. If you need two results to make up the five credits, ask GOUNI admissions in writing before you apply.
Direct Entry into Psychology at GOUNI
| Source | What it says about Direct Entry |
|---|---|
| JAMB brochure (base rule) | Two A-level passes including Government or History |
| JAMB brochure, GOUNI remark | Any two A-level passes, and any degree the Senate considers acceptable |
| GOUNI curriculum (three-year programme) | Five credits with two at advanced level, including English, Mathematics and one of Biology, Health Science, Agricultural Science, Animal Husbandry or Economics; ND, NCE and nursing or midwifery qualifications are also eligible |
| GOUNI admission form page | Apply with the current JAMB Direct Entry form |
GOUNI is more flexible on Direct Entry than most Enugu universities. Registered nurses, NCE holders and ND holders are named as eligible in the curriculum, which is useful for working nurses who want a psychology degree. You still need the O’level credits in English and Mathematics. Direct Entry students start at 200 level and finish in three years with at least 90 credit units.

Worked examples for Psychology applicants
GOUNI has no published aggregate formula. The test is your UTME score against 150 and your O’level against the English, Mathematics and Biology credits.
Uchenna scored 172 in English, Government, Economics and Literature in English. Her WAEC from one sitting has B3 in English Language, C5 in Mathematics, C4 in Biology, B2 in Government and B3 in Economics.
- Eligibility: 172 minus 150 = 22. She is 22 marks above GOUNI’s minimum.
- UTME subjects: three Social Science and Arts subjects, which fits JAMB’s base rule for GOUNI.
- O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics and Biology plus two more, all in one sitting. She meets the strictest version of GOUNI’s rule.
- What I would advise: apply early, accept on CAPS quickly, and keep an eye on her e-mail.
Kosisochukwu scored 228 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics after missing Medicine at UNN. His O’level is strong, Biology included. His problem is the UTME subjects: three sciences fall outside JAMB’s Arts and Social Science rule for Psychology at GOUNI, and an admission officer cannot change the subjects you sat. I would tell him to e-mail GOUNI admissions with his result before applying, and to look at science courses where his subjects fit, such as GOUNI Microbiology or GOUNI Biochemistry. If Psychology is his real goal, he should rewrite the UTME in 2027 with Biology and two Social Science subjects.
How to apply for Psychology at GOUNI
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the right course: pick Godfrey Okoye University and the course exactly as JAMB lists it, Psychology, with the correct UTME subjects.
- Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. Our change of institution guide walks you through it.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, and check that every grade shows correctly on your e-Facility profile.
- Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page on gouni.edu.ng and apply for Psychology. Use an e-mail address you check daily, because the decision comes by e-mail.
- Form fee: free for Psychology. Anyone who charges you for this form is not GOUNI.
- Wait for the e-mail: GOUNI says it replies within three working days of submission.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay fees the right way: after an offer, GOUNI asks students outside Medicine, Nursing and Law to pay acceptance, tuition, ICT and other fees. Use only GOUNI’s official online platform.
Warning
GOUNI tells applicants to pay only through the university’s official online payment platform and says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk. Nobody can sell you a GOUNI admission slot. Every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has not announced the 2027/2028 dates yet; they normally come after the UTME, so 2027 candidates should watch for them then.
Studying Psychology at GOUNI
Psychology at GOUNI is a B.Sc. in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. The department’s curriculum (September 2023, built on NUC’s core curriculum) runs four years through UTME with a minimum of 120 credit units, or three years through Direct Entry with 90.
What you study, level by level
| Level | Examples of courses in GOUNI’s curriculum |
|---|---|
| 100 | Introduction to Psychology, Determinants of Behaviour, Learning Processes, Quantitative Methods in Psychology, Ethics in Psychology |
| 200 | General Experimental Psychology, Physiological Psychology, Industrial/Organisational Psychology, Social Psychology, Developmental Psychology I and II, Personality and Assessment, Health Psychology |
| 300 | Clinical Psychology, Psychology of Substance Use Disorder, Psychological Testing and Test Construction, Research Methods, Statistical Methods, Cognitive Psychology, Field Experience |
| 400 | Psychology of Terrorism and Trauma Management, Psychopharmacology, Practicum in Psychotherapy, Advanced Clinical Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Research Project |
GOUNI adds its own GOU-PSY courses: Psychology of Peace, Genetics and Evolutionary Psychology, Managerial Psychology I and II, Psychology of Crisis and Trauma Management, Geriatric Psychology and Wellbeing, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Psychology of Security Management, Psychology of Solid Waste Management, Psychology of Digital Marketing, Career Counselling, and an elective on the Igbo apprenticeship system.
There is no SIWES. The practical work is PSY 310 Field Experience at 300 level, a supervised placement of 90 hours in a hospital, company, school or civil service office, followed by a Practicum in Psychotherapy at 400 level. Physiological psychology and psychopharmacology explain why GOUNI wants the Biology credit, and the statistics courses explain the Mathematics credit.
Accreditation
Myschool reported on 9 August 2021 that Psychology was one of 13 GOUNI programmes to receive full NUC accreditation. Full accreditation normally lasts five years, so the programme is now due for re-accreditation. I found no newer NUC result for it: NUC’s online results PDF cuts off before universities starting with G, and no NUC report page for GOUNI Psychology came up in searches. GOUNI’s accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without dates. Ask GOUNI admissions to confirm the current status in writing before you pay acceptance.
Careers after Psychology
A B.Sc. leads to work in human resources and recruitment, counselling support in schools and NGOs, market and user research, rehabilitation centres, and security and correctional services. Working as a clinical psychologist in a hospital normally needs a postgraduate clinical qualification on top of the first degree, so plan for a master’s if that is your goal.

Mistakes Psychology applicants make at GOUNI
- No Biology credit: GOUNI requires it, although JAMB’s base rule does not.
- A Mathematics pass instead of a credit: GOUNI wants a credit.
- Three science subjects in the UTME: they do not fit JAMB’s base rule for Psychology at GOUNI.
- Combining sittings without asking: GOUNI’s brochure remark says one sitting.
- Leaving GOUNI as second choice: GOUNI asks for a change of institution.
- O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot process the admission without it.
If you need to switch courses on JAMB, see our JAMB change of course guide. Writing again in 2027? Check when JAMB 2027 registration starts and the JAMB Biology syllabus if you are adding Biology.
