If Godfrey Okoye University admits you into Guidance and Counselling, the GOUNI Guidance and Counselling cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the figure GOUNI sets for all its Education programmes for 2026/2027. The harder question is whether you can get into the course at all, because Guidance and Counselling has no entry on JAMB’s course list for GOUNI. Read the next section before you register.

Confirm in writing first
Guidance and Counselling appears on GOUNI’s online admission form, but JAMB does not list it for GOUNI, so you cannot pick it for GOUNI when you register. Before you choose GOUNI for this course, e-mail the admissions office and ask which JAMB course to register and whether you will be admitted into Guidance and Counselling itself. Keep their reply.
Does GOUNI offer Guidance and Counselling?
GOUNI’s own pages disagree with each other. I checked every list the university publishes on 30 October 2026:

Only the form page mentions it. Every other list, including the fee schedule that shows what students actually pay, leaves it out. My reading is that GOUNI either plans to start the course or keeps it on the form list without running it as a full-time UTME degree. I could not confirm either, so treat it as unconfirmed.
Why the JAMB list matters
Since JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, any admission outside CAPS is illegal. CAPS can only carry an offer in a course JAMB lists for that university. If Guidance and Counselling is not on GOUNI’s JAMB list, GOUNI cannot place you in it on CAPS. It would have to admit you into a course JAMB does list, and you would then depend on the university to move you internally. That is a risk you should only take with a written promise.

If you want a counselling career and still prefer GOUNI, these are the closest entries JAMB carries for the university. Check each one’s subject line on JAMB’s e-brochure, because the rules differ from Guidance and Counselling’s “any three subjects”.

These are JAMB’s general brochure lines for Guidance and Counselling. They apply at universities that list the course, and they show what GOUNI would most likely expect if it runs the course.

What GOUNI adds
GOUNI’s 2026/2027 form page asks every applicant for five credits including English and Mathematics. So for GOUNI, a pass in Mathematics is not enough, even though JAMB’s general line allows it. Some other universities, such as IAUE and NDU, also insist on a Mathematics credit.
UTME subjects that keep your options open
Because Guidance and Counselling accepts any three subjects, pick ones that also fit your fallback. For Psychology or a social science education degree, English, Government, Economics and Biology or English, Government, Economics and Literature are sensible sets. Check the exact rule for your fallback course before registering.

How GOUNI screens Education applicants
GOUNI does not run a Post-UTME test for its undergraduate courses on the official form page. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. Nothing on the page describes a written test, an interview or an aggregate score for Education.

Because the reply comes by e-mail, use an address you open every day and type it with care. A single wrong letter and the offer never reaches you.
If GOUNI confirms that it admits Guidance and Counselling students, this is the process you would go through. For a course without a JAMB entry, add one more step: keep the e-mail that tells you which JAMB course your offer sits under.
Worked example (illustrative)
Chiamaka scored 156 in English, Government, Economics and CRS, with credits in English, Mathematics, Government, Economics, CRS and Biology. She wants Guidance and Counselling.
- GOUNI: her score and O’level are fine, but she cannot select Guidance and Counselling for GOUNI on JAMB. She e-mails GOUNI and waits for a written answer before choosing it.
- Peaceland or CCU: both list the course on JAMB and accept 150, so 156 is enough.
- ESUT or UNN: she is 4 short of 160, so they are out this year.
- Decision: without a clear GOUNI reply, she registers Peaceland or CCU Guidance and Counselling and keeps GOUNI Psychology in mind as a fallback.
If GOUNI confirms the course: how to apply
- Get written confirmation: ask the admissions office which JAMB course to register and whether you will study Guidance and Counselling.
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019.
- Register exactly as GOUNI tells you: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the JAMB course named in GOUNI’s reply.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS at a JAMB-accredited centre.
- Fill the free GOUNI form: on gouni.edu.ng, choose Guidance and Counselling.
- Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, within the four-week window. See our JAMB CAPS guide.
- Check the course on your letter before paying anything. If it says another course, ask GOUNI in writing how and when you move.
If you already registered another university first, a JAMB change of institution moves you to GOUNI. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.
What GOUNI charges for Education courses
GOUNI’s 2025/2026 fee schedule has no Guidance and Counselling line. Its other Education programmes show ₦631,200 as the first yearly figure under “Tuition and accommodation fees” (English and Literary Studies Education is ₦651,200), plus a ₦30,000 acceptance fee, ₦20,000 matriculation and ₦60,000 ICT for new students. Expect something similar if the course runs, and ask the bursary for the exact figure.
What Guidance and Counselling covers and where it leads
GOUNI has published no curriculum for this course, so the description here is the usual Nigerian university pattern, not GOUNI’s own outline. Guidance and Counselling degrees train school and career counsellors. Students take counselling theories and techniques, developmental and educational psychology, career and vocational guidance, testing and measurement, group counselling, and counselling practicum in schools. Most programmes run four years for UTME entrants.
GOUNI’s published Physics Education and Political Science Education curricula both include a 200 level course called Career Guidance for Learners in Enugu Socio-Cultural Environment, so GOUNI’s education students get some guidance content whatever their subject.

Accreditation
GOUNI’s accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, but it gives no programme list. Guidance and Counselling was not among the 13 GOUNI programmes reported as fully accredited in August 2021, and I found no NUC report page for it. The NUC-approved sandwich list on GOUNI’s form page does not include it either. I am treating its NUC status as not confirmed, and for a course that is missing from JAMB’s list that is one more reason to get answers in writing.
