Renaissance University (RNU) Cut-Off Mark for Nursing Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Renaissance University, Ugbawka, accepts 150 in the UTME for Nursing Science. See the subjects, O’level rules, fees, a safe target score, the NMCN question to ask and the CAPS steps.

The Renaissance University cut off mark for Nursing Science is 150 in the UTME. Renaissance University (RNU), Ugbawka, publishes that one minimum for all its programmes for 2026/2027. It is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and RNU has not published a separate cut-off for Nursing.

2027/2028 update: RNU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Nursing is one of RNU’s two highest-fee courses and sits in the Faculty of Health Sciences beside Medical Laboratory Science. I could not confirm RNU’s approval or admission quota from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN), and that is the first thing I would ask RNU before paying. This page covers the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), subjects, screening, fees and the CAPS steps.

RNU’s 2026/2027 announcement also says candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2023 and 2024 JAMB examinations can apply. That wording looks carried over from an earlier session, so if you are relying on an older UTME result, ask Admissions before you pay anything. Some blogs print a 2025/2026 RNU cut-off without citing any RNU notice, and I would not plan around those numbers.

Safe target score for Nursing at RNU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. RNU has not published these numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Nursing Science at RNU
Below 150Not eligible for RNU this session
150 to 179Eligible. Possible with strong science credits if places remain
180 to 209Comfortable for a private university Nursing intake
210 and aboveStrong. This is where I would aim

Nursing schools admit within a quota approved by the NMCN, so a university can’t keep adding Nursing students because demand is high. RNU hasn’t published its Nursing quota, and its FAQ says some programmes may need more than 150. I would aim for 200 or more with good credits in the three sciences.

UTME subject combination and O’level for RNU Nursing

RequirementNursing Science at RNU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (JAMB brochure general requirement; confirm RNU’s line on your JAMB e-brochure)
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (RNU’s own table)
Exams acceptedWAEC or NECO (named by RNU)
SittingsNot more than two (RNU)
Awaiting resultsNo RNU rule published; ask Admissions
Post-UTMENone published

Physics is the subject Nursing candidates most often leave out. JAMB’s general brochure line for Nursing lists Physics, Chemistry and Biology with Use of English, and RNU’s O’level table also wants a Physics credit. Mathematics is not a UTME subject for Nursing, but RNU still asks for an O’level credit in it.

RNU allows two sittings. If you can get all five credits in one sitting, do, because it leaves nothing for anyone to question at clearance.

Direct Entry into Nursing Science at RNU

RNU’s Direct Entry page lists these routes. It does not publish separate Direct Entry rules for each course, so read them alongside the subject requirements above.

QualificationRNU’s stated minimum
A’level (Cambridge, JUPEB or IJMB)At least two passes in relevant subjects
ND or HNDAt least Lower Credit from a recognised institution
NCEAt least merit in a related field
Also requiredO’level result, passport photographs and a JAMB Direct Entry registration for the current year

JAMB’s general Direct Entry rules for Nursing include A’level passes in two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics, and some universities also take registered nurses. RNU hasn’t said which routes it accepts for Nursing, so call Admissions before registering for Direct Entry. Registered nurses who want a B.N.Sc. should ask directly whether RNU has a route for them.

Does RNU write Post-UTME for Nursing?

RNU’s official pages describe a free online application followed by a document check. None of them mention a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. RNU still needs you on JAMB CAPS with an eligible score, the right subjects and your O’level uploaded, because every admission in Nigeria goes through CAPS.

RNU’s Direct Entry page adds that applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring extra documents. RNU hasn’t published any medical fitness requirement for health students, so ask Admissions what Nursing students bring to clearance.

Worked example (illustrative)

RNU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example checks eligibility and the money you need before resumption, using RNU’s own figures. Take Chidera, who scored 188 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology across two sittings.

  1. Score check: 188 minus 150 = 38. She clears RNU’s minimum by 38 marks and is 12 marks under my 200 comfort line.
  2. Subject check: Physics is in her UTME, her Mathematics credit is there, and two sittings are allowed.
  3. Approval check: before paying, she asks Admissions whether Nursing is NMCN approved for her session.
  4. Money before resumption on three instalments: 50% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦900,000, plus ₦100,000 acceptance = ₦1,000,000.
  5. Money before resumption on four instalments: 40% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦720,000, plus ₦100,000 acceptance = ₦820,000.

Tobenna scored 205 but registered English, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. His score is higher than Chidera’s, but without Physics his UTME doesn’t match JAMB’s Nursing combination. He would do better with a course whose combination allows Mathematics, such as Microbiology on JAMB’s usual line (confirm it on the e-brochure).

InstalmentsThree (50%, 20%, 30%) or four (40%, 20%, 20%, 20%); first instalment before resumptionRNU FAQ
HostelCompulsory; no more than three students to a room; no cookingRNU FAQ

RNU’s FAQ puts session fees at about ₦1.5 million to ₦1.8 million depending on the course, and Nursing sits at the top with Law. Hostel and three meals are inside that figure, so compare it with a public university’s fees plus rent and food before you rule it out.

Your chances of getting Nursing at RNU

RNU is a private, fee-paying university, and it does not publish how many people apply or how many it admits per course. From how private universities in the South East usually fill their places, a candidate who meets the 150 minimum, has the right O’level credits and can pay the fees normally stands a fair chance. That is my reading of the market, not an RNU statistic.

Nursing is where I would be most careful. NMCN quotas cap every Nursing school’s intake, and I couldn’t confirm RNU’s quota or its current NMCN approval. Before you pay acceptance, ask Admissions whether RNU’s B.N.Sc. is approved by the NMCN for your session and how many Nursing places there are. A clear answer to both matters more than any cut-off figure.

How to apply for Nursing at RNU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Pick Renaissance University as your first choice. RNU says candidates who chose another school must do a JAMB change of institution before it can admit them.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: RNU lists this as a step in its own application process. If you can’t do it at a CBT centre near you, RNU says its on-campus JAMB CBT centre handles O’level upload, change of institution and CAPS acceptance for a small charge.
  4. Fill the RNU online form: go to rnu.edu.ng/admissions/regular_admission and choose Nursing Science. RNU charges no application fee, and its announcement says the form takes about three minutes. You can also apply in person at the Admissions Office in Ugbawka.
  5. Answer any follow-up from Admissions: RNU publishes no Post-UTME test. Its Direct Entry page says applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring more documents, so keep your phone on and your papers ready.
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept only when the offer shows RNU and Nursing Science. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and the first instalment: ₦100,000 acceptance, then at least the first instalment of the ₦1,800,000 session fee before resumption. Pay only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng and confirm the payment with the Bursar.
  8. Clear with your documents: O’level result, four passport photographs, JAMB result, birth certificate, local government identification letter or certificate of origin, NIN slip, acceptance and school fee receipts, and A’level result for Direct Entry.

Warning

Confirm RNU’s NMCN approval for Nursing with Admissions before you pay the ₦100,000 acceptance fee. RNU’s form is free, a genuine offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page, and fees go only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng, confirmed with the Bursar.

Studying Nursing Science at Renaissance University

Nursing Science is in RNU’s Faculty of Health Sciences with Medical Laboratory Science. RNU is in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, about five minutes from ESUT’s Agbani campus, and the NUC licensed it as a private university in 2005. The degree is the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.), which normally runs for five years in Nigeria; RNU’s pages don’t state the duration.

RNU’s pages say its courses are accredited by the NUC but give no status for each course. I didn’t find RNU on an NMCN list I could open, and a reported RNU re-accreditation of five programmes didn’t say which ones. Treat NMCN approval as not confirmed until RNU shows it to you. It matters because NMCN approval decides whether graduates can be inducted and licensed as nurses.

What you study

  • Early years: basic sciences, then anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and the foundations of nursing.
  • Clinical years: medical-surgical nursing, maternal and child health, community health and mental health nursing, with supervised ward placements.
  • Licensing: NMCN professional examinations and induction, then internship.

Careers

Graduates work in hospital nursing, public health, nursing education and research, and can train further in areas such as midwifery, critical care or perioperative nursing.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Nursing applicants an RNU place

  • No Physics: JAMB’s Nursing combination and RNU’s O’level table both include it.
  • No Mathematics credit: RNU asks for it at O’level.
  • Not asking about NMCN approval: do it before paying ₦100,000.
  • RNU not your first choice: fix it with a JAMB change of institution.
  • Paying an agent for a form: RNU’s form is free.
  • Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee and clearance at Ugbawka come next.

If you are sitting the UTME again, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result.

Renaissance University cut off mark for Nursing: FAQs

What subjects do I need for Nursing at RNU? Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the UTME (JAMB’s general requirement), and O’level credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology in not more than two sittings.

How much is RNU Nursing school fees? ₦1,800,000 for the 2026/2027 session, covering tuition, accommodation and three meals a day, plus a ₦100,000 acceptance fee. You can pay in three or four instalments.

Is Renaissance University Nursing accredited by NMCN? I couldn’t confirm it from an NMCN source. Ask RNU’s Admissions Office to show you the current NMCN approval before you pay acceptance.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the O’level table, the first-choice rule, the CAPS step, the document list and the note on RNU’s JAMB CBT centre come from RNU’s undergraduate admissions page (checked 29 October 2026). The acceptance fees, the no-application-fee rule, the instalment plans, the hostel rules and the remark that some programmes may need more than 150 come from RNU’s admissions FAQ. Session fees by programme, the admission routes and the application link come from RNU’s 2026/2027 admission announcement. Direct Entry routes come from RNU’s Direct Entry page. The national minimum of 150 for universities was set at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria; News Central TV’s list of institution cut-offs from that meeting does not include RNU. The UTME and Direct Entry lines for Nursing are JAMB’s general requirements as reprinted by Myschool; RNU has no remark on that page. Safe target scores, the odds discussion and the worked example are my advice as an admissions adviser, not RNU figures. This page will be updated when RNU publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice or a departmental cut-off.
