ESUT Business Administration Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Subject Combination, Requirements and Screening

ESUT raised its minimum UTME score for Business Administration to 180 for 2027/2028, and no merit score is published. See the subject combination, O’level and ND rules, screening terms, a worked example and a safe target.

The ESUT cut off mark for Business Administration for 2026/2027 is 180 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology named Business Administration in the 180 band of its official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026, next to Accountancy and Mass Communication. With 180 or more, ESUT as your institution and the right subjects, you were eligible for its online screening.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

This is a change from the previous year. A blog summary of ESUT’s 2025/2026 notice did not name Business Administration, which left it in the general 160 group, so the minimum has gone up by 20 marks. ESUT still does not publish the final merit score. This guide gives you the official figure, the history, a safe target score marked as my advice, the subjects and O’level rules, how screening works with a worked example, the CAPS steps and the careers the course leads to.

Keep the two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score is the gate ESUT announces before screening; below it, the portal will not take your application for that course. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into the course after screening, and ESUT does not announce it. Most of the confusion online about “ESUT departmental cut-off marks” comes from treating the first as the second.

ESUT moved Business Administration from the general band to 180 for 2026/2027, the same session it also named Public Health, Biochemistry, Microbiology, International Relations and Architecture at 180. A university usually raises a course’s minimum when it gets far more applicants than places. If you were planning around the old 160, plan around 180 now, and expect the merit score to sit higher still.

Some blogs quote much higher ESUT “cut-offs” for courses such as Accounting (246) and Medicine (314) without an ESUT document behind them. None of those lists gives an official figure for Business Administration, so ignore any number ESUT did not publish.

Safe target score for Business Administration at ESUT (my advice)

This is my advice, not an ESUT rule. ESUT’s decision to raise the minimum to 180 is the clearest sign that demand for Business Administration is strong. It also attracts candidates who missed Accountancy, many of whom scored above 200.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Business Administration
180 to 199Eligible for screening, but you are near the bottom of the pool.
200 to 219A fair chance with good O’level grades.
220 to 239A good chance.
240 and aboveComfortable for Business Administration at ESUT.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Business Administration is 215 or more, with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics. Between 180 and 200, keep Marketing or Co-operative Economics and Management in view as alternatives in the same faculty.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT has not published a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split you may have read about is federal university policy, and ESUT has not said it applies it. If you are from outside Enugu, plan to win on your score and grades rather than on state of origin.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Business Administration

RequirementBusiness Administration
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Economics and one Social Science subject
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct Entry (general)Two A’level passes from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government, Geography and Statistics
Direct Entry (ESUT remark)ND in relevant programmes within the faculty accepted into 200 level, in addition to the UTME requirements
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These come from the JAMB brochure entry for Business Administration as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026). The only ESUT remark on the page is about Direct Entry; the UTME and O’level lines follow the general rule. Government, Commerce or Financial Accounting are the usual choices for the Social Science subject. Confirm on the JAMB e-brochure that yours counts before you register.

The ESUT Direct Entry remark means an ND holder in a business programme can join at 200 level, but only if their O’level already meets the UTME requirements, so Mathematics and Economics credits still matter. The remark does not state the ND grade, so confirm it with the department.

How ESUT screening works for Business Administration

These were the 2026/2027 screening terms in ESUT’s advert. The window has closed for this session, but they show you what to prepare for 2027.

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for a Business Administration candidate

Take Tobenna, who scored 205 in the 2026 UTME with B3, B3, C4, C5 and C6 in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Government.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 205 minus the 180 minimum = 25 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 205 ÷ 8 = 25.63 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 = 34 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 25.63 + 34 = 59.63 out of 100.

Ogechi scored 190 with A1, B2, B3, B3 and C4. Her illustrative total is 23.75 + 42 = 65.75, ahead of Tobenna despite 15 fewer UTME marks. If ESUT ranks on UTME alone, Tobenna leads. ESUT has not said which method it uses, so treat both your score and your grades as things to raise.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Business Administration at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one Social Science subject such as Government or Commerce and choose ESUT and Business Administration. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Business Administration, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list appeared on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026, Myschool reported. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer and set 31 October 2026 as the end of admissions for public universities. Myschool also reported on 28 October 2026 that ESUT had released change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027. I have not read their terms, so check the portal if CAPS shows a course other than the one you applied for.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Business Administration at ESUT

Business Administration is in ESUT’s Faculty of Management Sciences, alongside Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Co-operative Economics and Management, Insurance and Risk Management, Marketing, Mass Communication and Public Administration. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. The pages I checked do not confirm where the faculty’s buildings sit, so treat Agbani as the likely base and confirm when you resume. Nigerian B.Sc. programmes in this field run for four years for UTME entrants. Direct Entry candidates start at 200 level and finish in three.

Business Administration teaches you how organisations are planned, staffed, financed and run. It is broader than Accountancy or Banking and Finance, and it touches on each of them. Expect areas like these:

  • Principles of management and organisational behaviour: planning, leading, motivation and how teams work.
  • Human resource management: recruitment, pay, training and labour relations.
  • Marketing and entrepreneurship: customers, products, pricing and starting a small business.
  • Business finance and accounting for managers.
  • Operations and production management, business policy and strategy.
  • Business law, business statistics and management information systems.
  • Industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.

Accreditation: After the National Universities Commission’s 2024 exercise, ESUT reported full accreditation for programmes in its Faculties of Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and Administration (Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025). “Administration” appears to mean the faculty ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert calls Management Sciences, but the report names faculties, not programmes, and gives no grade for Business Administration on its own. I found no programme-level result, so ask the department to confirm its NUC status when you go for clearance.

Career paths after Business Administration

  • Graduate trainee and management trainee programmes in banks, manufacturing firms and telecoms companies.
  • Human resources, administration and operations roles.
  • Sales, marketing and business development.
  • Running your own business, with the entrepreneurship courses as a starting point.
  • Public service roles in ministries, agencies and local government.
  • Professional membership: the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria admit business graduates. Check their current routes when you graduate. An MBA later is a common next step.

Mistakes Business Administration applicants make

  • Planning with last year’s 160: ESUT raised Business Administration to 180 for 2026/2027.
  • Missing Mathematics or Economics: both are required in the UTME and at O’level.
  • Assuming an ND alone is enough for Direct Entry: ESUT’s remark also asks for the UTME requirements.
  • Expecting a Post-UTME test to rescue a low score: ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had no test, so your UTME score and O’level do the work.
  • Forgetting the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes the O’level upload compulsory for every candidate.
  • Late awaiting results: results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
  • Name mismatches: ESUT asks that names match across O’level certificates, the UTME result and other documents.
