Clifford University Physics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Clifford University’s cut-off for Physics is 150. See a safe target score, UTME subjects, the fifth O’level credit Clifford names, Direct Entry with ND or A-levels, screening and the 2026/2027 fee of ₦845,000.

The Clifford University Physics cut-off mark 2027/2028 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Clifford’s 2026/2027 admission notice gives 150 as its JAMB cut-off for every course, which is also JAMB’s national minimum for universities. There is no separate departmental figure for Physics.

2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Physics is one of the few Clifford courses where JAMB’s brochure and the university’s own page agree almost line for line on the UTME subjects. The differences sit in the fifth O’level credit and in Direct Entry, and I explain both below, together with a safe target score, the screening, the CAPS steps, the 2026/2027 fees and what I could and could not confirm about accreditation.

Clifford has used one figure for all courses in every notice I found, so Physics has never had a cut-off of its own. The figure rose from 130 in 2022 reports to 150 in 2026/2027, and 150 is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with.

Safe target score for Physics at Clifford (my advice)

Clifford publishes one cut-off for every course, so there is no official departmental figure to quote. The table below is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a Clifford rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Physics at Clifford
Below 150Not eligible. Clifford’s cut-off and JAMB’s university minimum are both 150.
150 to 164Eligible. Physics is rarely oversubscribed, so this band is realistic with a complete O’level.
165 to 179A comfortable position.
180 and aboveStrong, and enough to ask about a change to a more competitive science course if you want one.

Physics usually attracts fewer applicants than Computer Science or the health sciences, though Clifford publishes no applicant numbers. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 165, ideally 175 or more. More important than a few extra marks: good credits in Physics and Mathematics, because the degree is built on both.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Physics

RequirementJAMB brochure (Myschool reprint)Clifford’s own page
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or BiologyEnglish Language, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or Biology
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and any other science subjectFive credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and one of Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, in not more than two sittings
Direct EntryNCE or two A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics or ChemistryTwo A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics or Chemistry; or ND or HND at upper credit in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics or Geology; candidates must also meet the O’level requirement
Clifford-specific remarkNone naming Clifford, CLU or CUNot applicable

The UTME lists match, so Biology is a legitimate fourth subject. I would still pick Chemistry: it is compulsory at O’level anyway, Physics departments teach a lot of physical chemistry and laboratory method in the early years, and it keeps Clifford’s Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry and computing courses open if you later want a change of course.

The fifth O’level credit is where candidates slip. JAMB’s main entry says “any other science subject”, but Clifford names three options: Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science. A candidate whose fifth credit is Geography or Computer Studies meets the brochure wording loosely but not Clifford’s list.

The brochure has dozens of Physics remarks for other universities, such as UNN and UNIBEN, which insist on Chemistry. None of them names Clifford, CLU or CU.

Direct Entry into Physics

Clifford accepts two A-level passes in Physics plus Mathematics or Chemistry. Its page also opens a diploma route: an ND or HND at upper credit in Physics, Mathematics, Statistics or Geology. In both cases you must still meet the O’level requirement above.

JAMB’s brochure mentions the NCE as a Direct Entry qualification for Physics, but Clifford’s page does not. If your qualification is an NCE, ask the admissions office in writing before you apply. If it is an ND, check that your grade is upper credit, because Clifford’s page names upper credit for the diploma route.

Clifford’s transfer and Direct Entry page says Direct Entry students are admitted into 200 level and that all of them, except JUPEB candidates, sit a university screening test. You will also need your complete transcript or statement of result before admission is confirmed.

How Clifford screens Physics applicants

Clifford has not published the format, date or pass mark of its screening for the coming session. Three things are on record. Its requirements page asks Law applicants for successful performance in the CLU Post-UTME and admission screening, which tells you a screening exercise exists for UTME candidates. Myschool reported in June 2022 that candidates with 130 and above could apply, including those who had not chosen Clifford. And a blog post from October 2025 said the form was free and that an aptitude test would hold on a date to be announced. Clifford has confirmed neither the free form nor the test format.

Under the 2026 rules, that old 130 invitation level no longer helps you. Clifford’s own notice now gives 150 as its cut-off, the same as JAMB’s minimum for universities, and JAMB will not approve a university admission below it.

Worked example (illustrative)

Clifford has not published an aggregate formula. Many Nigerian universities weigh the UTME and their own test equally, so I use a 50:50 split below purely to show how the numbers interact. Your real ranking may be done differently.

  1. Candidate: Nnamdi scored 168 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, and has B3 in Physics, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in Chemistry, C6 in English and C5 in Further Mathematics from one sitting.
  2. Eligibility: 168 minus 150 = 18 marks above the cut-off. His fifth O’level credit, Further Mathematics, is on Clifford’s list.
  3. UTME half (illustration): 168 divided by 400, times 50 = 21.
  4. Screening half (illustration): a 62% screening score gives 31.
  5. Illustrative total: 21 + 31 = 52 out of 100.

If Nnamdi’s fifth credit had been Geography instead of Further Mathematics, his score would be unchanged but his O’level would not match the three options Clifford names. That small detail can hold up clearance after the offer.

Your chances of admission into Physics at Clifford

Clifford started academic activities in March 2017 and reported about 1,500 students at its 2024 convocation. In a university that size, Physics is unlikely to be crowded, so a candidate above 150 with the right O’level credits has a good chance.

The trade-offs are cost and the accreditation question. The 2026/2027 programme fee is ₦845,000, and I could not tie any NUC accreditation report to Clifford’s Physics programme. Ask the department for its current NUC status, and apply to a public university as well if the fee is a stretch for your family.

How to apply for Physics at Clifford, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Physics with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, and pick Clifford University as your institution. First choice is the cleanest route.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Clifford accepts credits from not more than two sittings.
  4. Apply on the Clifford portal: the official homepage sends applicants to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng. The homepage does not state a form price, so read the fee on the portal itself before paying. Clifford’s homepage lists 08036970755 and 07034871571 for admission enquiries.
  5. Take part in the CLU screening: Clifford refers to its Post-UTME and admission screening exercises on its requirements page. Watch the portal and your email for the date and format.
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: Clifford lists the acceptance fee as ₦150,000 for 2026/2027. Pay only through the university’s official payment channel, then complete clearance and print your JAMB admission letter.

Warning

JAMB said in May 2026 that any admission done outside CAPS is illegal. If anyone offers you a Clifford Physics “slot” for money, refuse. A genuine offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page, and fees are paid through the university’s own channel.

When your status changes on CAPS, our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means and how to accept.

Clifford’s published fee schedule is headed “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. It gives one amount per programme and does not break it into tuition, accommodation, laboratory or other charges, so ask the bursary what the ₦845,000 covers before you budget for a hostel, books, a laptop and feeding on top of it. Fees for 2027/2028 had not been published when I checked, and private university fees often rise from one session to the next.

Studying Physics at Clifford University

Physics sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Science with Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science and the other science programmes. The degree is a B.Sc. (Hons.) Physics.

What you study

  • Foundation years: mechanics, heat and properties of matter, electricity and magnetism, calculus and general laboratory physics.
  • Middle years: classical mechanics, electromagnetism, optics and waves, thermodynamics, electronics and mathematical methods.
  • Final years: quantum mechanics, solid state physics, nuclear and atomic physics, computational physics and a research project.
  • Laboratory work: expect practical classes every year, and an industrial training placement is common in Nigerian science degrees.

Duration and accreditation

UTME entrants normally spend four years on a B.Sc. in Physics in Nigeria, and Direct Entry students start at 200 level. Clifford’s page does not state the duration.

I found no NUC accreditation report that names Clifford for Physics, and Physics was not among the eight programmes Clifford announced as fully accredited in March 2023. Its status is therefore not confirmed. JAMB lists Physics among Clifford’s approved courses, which is what allows admission on CAPS. Clifford’s Computer Science and Microbiology both received full accreditation in the NUC’s late 2024 exercise, so ask the Physics department whether it was assessed in the same exercise.

Careers after the degree

  • Teaching physics in secondary schools (with a teaching qualification and TRCN registration)
  • Geophysics and technical roles in oil, gas and mining
  • Meteorology, telecommunications and renewable energy work
  • Postgraduate study in medical physics, geophysics, electronics or materials science

If you are still deciding on your course, read our guides to JAMB change of course and JAMB change of institution.

Mistakes that cost Physics applicants a Clifford place

  • A fifth O’level credit outside Clifford’s list: use Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science.
  • No Chemistry credit: Clifford requires it at O’level even if you wrote Biology in the UTME.
  • O’level from three sittings: Clifford accepts two at most.
  • An ND below upper credit for Direct Entry: Clifford names upper credit for the diploma route.
  • O’level not uploaded to CAPS: JAMB cannot approve the admission.
  • Waiting too long to accept on CAPS: JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks.

Preparing for the 2027 UTME? Start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts, use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027 if Chemistry is in your combination, and once results are out, see how to check your JAMB result.
