The Gregory University cut off mark for Medical Biochemistry has not been published. Gregory’s general screening minimum was 140 in 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, but JAMB’s national minimum for universities is 150 for the 2026/2027 session, so 150 is the legal floor. For the 2027 UTME I advise a safe target of 180.
2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Accreditation check: I could not confirm the NUC accreditation status of Medical Biochemistry at Gregory. No NUC report for it turned up, and NUC’s full results list could not be read as far as Gregory. Ask for the current NUC letter before you pay, and see the alternatives in the accreditation section, including ABSU’s Biochemistry, which has a Full NUC result.
Programme check: Medical Biochemistry appears on Gregory’s JAMB course list as “Medical Biochemistry”, separate from “Biochemistry”, and it sits in the College of Basic Medical Sciences. I could not open that college’s page, so the JAMB list is the evidence it is offered.
The rest of this guide covers the score history and my safe target, the UTME subjects and O’level credits, Direct Entry, screening, accreditation and how to apply.
Gregory University cut off mark for Medical Biochemistry: the figures that apply
Gregory has never published a separate departmental cut-off for Medical Biochemistry, or for any other course. What it has published is one general minimum UTME score for its screening exercise, and that figure was 140 in both of the last two cycles I could trace. The table below puts those notices next to JAMB’s current national floor.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024/2025 | 140 | Gregory’s minimum UTME score to apply for screening | Official: Gregory University news page, 19 August 2024 |
| 2025/2026 | 140 | Gregory’s minimum UTME score, Gregory as first choice, ₦2,000 form | Myschool reprint of the notice, 24 July 2025 |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB’s national minimum for every university | Official: JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | Gregory’s own minimum and any figure for Medical Biochemistry | No Gregory notice with a score found; Gregory was not on the list of institution cut-offs from the policy meeting |
The 140 figure is now below the legal minimum. At the 2026 policy meeting JAMB fixed 150 as the lowest score any university may admit with for the 2026/2027 session, and Gregory was not among the institutions that declared a figure of their own there. So a 2027 candidate should treat 150 as the floor and plan well above it. Several aggregator sites print “140” or “150” against every Gregory course as if it were a departmental cut-off. Neither number was set for Medical Biochemistry; they are the general screening minimum and JAMB’s floor.
Safe target score for Medical Biochemistry at Gregory (my advice)
Everything in this section is my own judgement as an admissions adviser, since Gregory publishes no departmental figure and no admission statistics. Medical Biochemistry attracts fewer applicants than Medicine, Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science, and Gregory is a private university that has used 140 as its own minimum. Still, it is a basic medical science course, and I would not go into screening with a borderline score.
| Your UTME score | My read for Gregory Medical Biochemistry |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any university place in the 2026/2027 session |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible to apply. Fine if Gregory still has space in Medical Biochemistry, but have a second course in mind |
| 160 to 179 | A fair chance if your O’level has all five required credits |
| 180 and above | My safe target for Medical Biochemistry at Gregory |
| 210 and above | Strong enough to compete for Medical Biochemistry at most public universities too |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 or more. If you finish between 150 and 159, still apply, but call the admissions office before you pay anything and ask whether Medical Biochemistry has places left for your session.
Gregory University Medical Biochemistry subject combination and O’level requirements
I checked Medical Biochemistry on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure. The page carries remarks for only three universities (DELSU, UNIBEN and LAUTECH) and none for Gregory, so JAMB’s general rules for the course are the ones that apply to Gregory.
| Requirement | Medical Biochemistry at Gregory |
|---|---|
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Medical Biochemistry (under Gregory University, Uturu) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| O’level credits | Five: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| Sittings | Gregory’s 2025/2026 notice accepted results from up to two sittings (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB) |
| Direct Entry (JAMB line) | Two A level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Biology, Zoology, Botany or Mathematics |
| Gregory remark in the brochure | None |
Some websites give the UTME combination as Chemistry, Biology and “Physics or Mathematics”. The brochure line for Medical Biochemistry says Physics, Chemistry and Biology, so do not swap Physics for Mathematics.
Points Medical Biochemistry applicants get wrong
- Registering “Biochemistry” by mistake: Gregory’s JAMB list has Biochemistry and Medical Biochemistry as two separate courses. Pick Medical Biochemistry if that is the degree you want.
- Using Mathematics instead of Physics in the UTME: the JAMB line is Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME while awaiting your WAEC or NECO result, but Gregory cannot recommend you for admission on CAPS until the result is out and uploaded.
Direct Entry into Medical Biochemistry at Gregory
JAMB’s general Direct Entry line for Medical Biochemistry is: two A level passes, one in Chemistry and the other in Physics, Biology, Zoology, Botany or Mathematics. Gregory has not published its own Direct Entry rules for the course or the level DE students join, although aggregator headlines say the university advertised Direct Entry, transfer, JUPEB and IJMB admission for 2026/2027. You still need the five O’level credits above, and you must register for Direct Entry through JAMB. Ask the College of Basic Medical Sciences whether it takes DE candidates into 200 level before you buy any form.
How Gregory screens Medical Biochemistry applicants
Gregory runs an online post-UTME application instead of a published entrance test. Its official 2024/2025 notice asked candidates who scored at least 140 to fill the form at gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme, upload a passport photograph and their documents, and pay the fee online. The 2025/2026 version, as reprinted by Myschool, kept 140, charged a non-refundable ₦2,000 paid by ATM card, and asked for a passport photograph in PDF, the UTME result slip and O’level results (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB, up to two sittings).
| Screening item | What is known |
|---|---|
| Where to apply | gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme (official 2024 notice; same address in the 2025 reprint) |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 in 2025/2026; the 2026/2027 fee was not found |
| Documents | Passport photograph (PDF), UTME result slip, O’level result(s) |
| Written test or interview | Not stated in any Gregory notice I found |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Admission list | Through JAMB CAPS; Gregory’s 2026/2027 list date was not found |
For 2026/2027 I found only headlines on aggregator sites saying Gregory was accepting post-UTME, Direct Entry, transfer, JUPEB and IJMB applications; the pages behind them would not open, so I cannot give you this year’s fee or closing date. An older blog page also claims that candidates who did not choose Gregory first may apply. Treat that as unconfirmed, and if Gregory was not your first choice, plan on a JAMB change of institution.
Worked example for a Medical Biochemistry candidate
Gregory publishes no formula, so the safest way to check yourself is against the 150 legal floor, my 180 target and the brochure rules.
Chidera scored 188 with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In one NECO sitting she has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Legal floor: 188 is above JAMB’s 150.
- My safe target: 188 clears my 180 target by 8 marks.
- UTME subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology with Use of English match the JAMB line for Medical Biochemistry.
- O’level: all five required credits in one sitting. She qualifies.
Illustration only: many Nigerian universities rank candidates with a 50:50 aggregate, where the UTME score divided by 8 gives up to 50 points and screening gives the rest. On that method Chidera’s 188 would be worth 23.5 of the 50 UTME points. Gregory has not said it uses this or any formula, so use it as a way to compare yourself, nothing more.
Is Medical Biochemistry at Gregory University accredited?
I could not confirm it. NUC publishes a report page for each accreditation visit, and I found Gregory reports for Medical Laboratory Science, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Insurance, International Relations, English and Health Education, all graded Full. None of the Gregory reports I found was for Medical Biochemistry. NUC’s full list of results (Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, uploaded September 2026) could not be read as far as the universities starting with G, so I cannot tell you whether Medical Biochemistry has a Full, Interim or Denied result, or no result yet.
A degree from a programme NUC has denied can block NYSC mobilisation and postgraduate admission, so before you pay acceptance, ask the College of Basic Medical Sciences for its latest NUC letter for Medical Biochemistry and check that it names the course. If you want a programme whose NUC result is already on record in Abia, these are the closest options:
| Alternative | NUC result on record | Where it is shown |
|---|---|---|
| ABSU Biochemistry | Full, maturity 2027 | NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 |
| ABSU Physiology | Full, maturity 2026 | NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 |
| Gregory Medical Laboratory Science | Full, 91.60%, visit 22 November 2024 | NUC report page for Gregory |
I found no Abia university with a Medical Biochemistry result I could confirm. ABSU’s Biochemistry is the pure-science version of the degree and is admitted on ABSU’s 150 minimum (first or second choice). Gregory’s own Biochemistry is another option inside Gregory, though its NUC status was not confirmed either.
How to apply for Medical Biochemistry at Gregory, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register Medical Biochemistry under Gregory University, Uturu: use Physics, Chemistry and Biology with Use of English. Gregory’s 2025 notice was written for first-choice candidates, so if Gregory was not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution; JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre, as soon as your result is out. Gregory cannot recommend you without it.
- Fill Gregory’s screening form: at gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme. Upload a passport photograph in PDF, your UTME result slip and your O’level, and pay the form fee online (₦2,000 in 2025/2026). Make sure the names and subjects match your JAMB record.
- Check CAPS for your offer: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Accept on CAPS in time: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept or reject offers in 2026. Accept on CAPS before you pay acceptance.
- Pay acceptance and school fees to Gregory only: Gregory has not published its acceptance fee or Medical Biochemistry fees in any source I reached. Ask the bursary for the full first-year bill and pay only through channels the university gives you in writing.
Avoid admission agents
Gregory’s website warns applicants to pay only through its official portals and says no agent is authorised to sell its forms or secure admission. A real offer always appears on JAMB CAPS, and admission outside CAPS is illegal, so do not pay anyone who promises you a Medical Biochemistry place.
Studying Medical Biochemistry at Gregory
Medical Biochemistry is biochemistry taught for the human body and disease, inside a basic medical sciences college, while plain Biochemistry sits with the natural sciences. Gregory has not published its course outline; a Nigerian B.Sc in Medical Biochemistry usually takes four years and covers:
| Stage | What you study |
|---|---|
| 100 level | General Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics, plus general studies |
| 200 to 300 level | Biomolecules, enzymes, metabolism of carbohydrates, lipids and proteins, nutrition, alongside anatomy and physiology |
| Final year | Clinical biochemistry, molecular biology, endocrine biochemistry, toxicology and a research project |
Careers after Medical Biochemistry
Graduates work in research and university laboratories, pharmaceutical, food and drinks companies, quality control, and medical sales, and many continue to a master’s or PhD. A Medical Biochemistry degree is a different qualification from the BMLS that the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria registers, so it does not by itself license you to run a hospital laboratory. If that is your goal, apply for Medical Laboratory Science instead.
Medical Biochemistry school fees at Gregory
Gregory has not published Medical Biochemistry fees in any official source I could reach, and the figures on fee blogs carry no Gregory document. Ask the bursary for the full first-year bill: tuition, acceptance, accommodation, laboratory or practical charges and any departmental levy. As a private university with health programmes, expect the bill to be higher than at a state university such as ABSU.

About Gregory University, Uturu
Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012 and sited at Amaokwe-Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The university lists 12 colleges, among them Basic Medical Sciences, Allied Health Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences and Pharmacy, and says it runs more than 55 programmes. The Sun reported in April 2026 that training in medicine and allied health began in 2016 and that a teaching hospital project at Ezinnachi was nearing completion.
Gregory’s 2024 admission notice gave two contact numbers for enquiries: 0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920. The postal address is P.M.B. 1012, Amaokwe Achara, Uturu.
Mistakes that cost Medical Biochemistry applicants a Gregory place
- Choosing Medical Biochemistry to work in hospital laboratories: licensed hospital lab work needs the Medical Laboratory Science degree and council registration.
- Mixing up the two Biochemistry courses on JAMB: check the exact name before you submit.
- Planning with 140: that was Gregory’s figure before JAMB raised the 2026/2027 university floor to 150.
- Paying an agent: Gregory says no agent is authorised, and only CAPS confirms an offer.
- Missing the private university deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 for the 2026/2027 session.

Sources and updates
Gregory’s 140 minimum for 2024/2025, the portal address and the contact numbers are from the university’s own notice, Gregory University Uturu Admissions Ongoing (19 August 2024); the warning about agents is from Gregory’s website. The 2025/2026 figure of 140, the ₦2,000 fee and the document list are from Myschool’s reprint of the 2025 notice (24 July 2025); I could not open Gregory’s original 2025 page. JAMB’s 150 minimum for universities, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the four-week acceptance window are from the News Agency of Nigeria report on the 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026); News Central’s full list of institution cut-offs from the same meeting does not include Gregory. The course name is from Myschool’s copy of Gregory’s JAMB course list (59 courses, checked 29 October 2026), and the UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules are from the JAMB brochure entry for Medical Biochemistry on Myschool, which has no Gregory remark. NUC report pages for Gregory (Medical Laboratory Science entry 6126 and seven non-health programmes) were checked on nuc.edu.ng; none covers Medical Biochemistry, and the NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 could not be read past Crawford University. ABSU’s results are from the ABSU section of the same list. The Sun’s April 2026 feature supplied the 2016 start of Gregory’s health programmes and the teaching hospital project. The safe target, score bands and worked example are my own advice, not Gregory figures. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when Gregory publishes its 2027/2028 notice.
