For the Lux Mundi University Economics and Development Studies cut-off mark, plan with 150 for 2027/2028. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities. Lux Mundi has not published a departmental cut-off for the course, so anything higher you see online is a blog’s estimate. I would aim for 170 or more.
2027/2028 update: Lux Mundi University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Lux Mundi is a private university in Umuahia that admitted its first students in 2024. This guide covers the official minimum, a safe target score (my advice), JAMB’s subject list for Economics and Development Studies, O’level and Direct Entry, a worked screening example, the CAPS steps and what is known about fees.
Lux Mundi University Economics and Development Studies cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | Position for 2027/2028 planning | Status |
|---|---|---|

| Lux Mundi departmental cut-off for Economics and Development Studies | Not published | No figure on any official page I could reach |
| My safe target score | 170 or more | Advice, not a Lux Mundi rule |
| UTME subjects (JAMB brochure) | Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and one of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French or CRS/IRS | Myschool reprint of the JAMB brochure |
| O’level | Five credits incl. English, Mathematics, Economics and two arts or social science subjects | JAMB brochure; sittings not stated by Lux Mundi |
| Degree and length | B.Sc. Economics and Development Studies, normally 4 years | Aggregator listings; Lux Mundi has not stated it online |

Cut-off history for Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, reported by NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not declared | Lux Mundi’s own institutional figure | Lux Mundi does not appear in News Central’s full list of institution cut-offs from the 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Reported by Channels TV (8 July 2025) |
| 2024/2025 | 140 | UTME cut-off shown on Lux Mundi’s NUCIS listing | Directory listing, last modified 24 July 2024 |
| Undated | 150 per course, 160 in a page header | Varsity.ng course table | Unofficial and inconsistent |
The only figures that bind Lux Mundi applicants are JAMB’s: 140 in 2024 and 150 in 2025 and 2026. Lux Mundi did not declare its own figure at the 2026 policy meeting, and Varsity.ng’s 160 header has no source. For 2027/2028, 150 is the floor.
Safe target score for Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi (my advice)
Lux Mundi has never published a departmental cut-off, so there is no official number above 150 to aim at. The table is my reading as an admissions adviser for a young private university with a small intake.
| Your UTME score | My read for Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible. |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. Realistic with a complete O’level and a fair screening result. |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable at a young private university. |
| 200 and above | Strong, and competitive for Economics at bigger universities too. |
I would aim for 170 or more. Economics courses draw steady demand, and a margin above 150 protects you if Lux Mundi ranks its social science applicants after screening.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi
The JAMB brochure, as reprinted by Myschool, gives a fixed list for the fourth UTME subject. Its special remarks name FUOYE and IUO only, not Lux Mundi.
| Requirement | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) | What I would register |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and any of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French and CRS/IRS | English, Economics, Mathematics and Government |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two arts or social science subjects | Add Government, Geography, Literature or CRS |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Economics and one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History and Government | Economics plus Mathematics or Government |
| Sittings | Not stated in the main entry | One sitting is safest |
The fourth subject has to come from the brochure’s list. Commerce, Financial Accounting and Biology are not on it, so a UTME combination such as Economics, Mathematics and Commerce would not fit this course even though it fits Entrepreneurship.
For O’level, your two extra credits should be arts or social science subjects. Government, Geography, Literature in English and CRS all work.
Direct Entry into Economics and Development Studies
JAMB’s brochure asks for two A-level passes: Economics plus one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History or Government. Remarks letting some universities accept ND or NCE results name FUOYE and IUO only. Ask Lux Mundi directly if you hold a diploma.
Direct Entry candidates usually join at 200 level and still need the five O’level credits on CAPS.
Does Lux Mundi University run Economics and Development Studies?
As far as public records go, yes, but the confirmation is weaker than I would like. nextschool.ng’s Lux Mundi profile (modified 5 April 2025) and Varsity.ng’s 2026 course table both list the course; Varsity.ng spells it Economics and Developmental Studies and puts it under Management and Social Sciences. universitycourses.ng (updated 24 February 2026) has it in a 12-course Lux Mundi list as well. NUC’s institution directory (NUCIS) lists Lux Mundi as a private, degree-awarding university with 16 courses, without naming them.
What I could not confirm is an official Lux Mundi course list. The university website loads no readable text, and I could not reach the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list for Lux Mundi. That matters because JAMB will only process your admission for a course that is on Lux Mundi’s approved list in the JAMB brochure.
The brochure title is Economics and Development Studies, while listing sites use “Developmental” and JAMB also has a plain Economics course. When you register, choose Lux Mundi University and select the exact economics title listed under it. If you see neither, contact the university before you pay.
How Lux Mundi screens Economics and Development Studies applicants
Lux Mundi has not published a screening format, date, form price or aggregate formula in any source I could reach. Varsity.ng says post-UTME performance also counts, without naming a source. The safest plan is to expect some form of screening, whether an aptitude test, an interview or a check of documents, and to be ready for any of them.
Worked example (illustrative)
Lux Mundi has no published formula, so the split below is mine. Many Nigerian universities give the UTME and their own test equal weight, and I use that 50:50 split only to show how the numbers interact.
- Candidate: Ifeanyi scored 185 in the UTME and has B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, A1 in Economics, B3 in Government and C4 in Literature from one WAEC sitting.
- Eligibility: 185 minus 150 = 35 marks above the minimum, and his O’level matches the brochure line.
- UTME half (illustration): 185 divided by 400, times 50 = 23.125.
- Screening half (illustration): 55% at screening gives 27.5.
- Illustrative total: 23.125 + 27.5 = 50.6 out of 100 (rounded).
Even with a modest screening result, Ifeanyi sits about 4.4 points above a candidate who scored 150 and screened the same. If the screening includes an interview, his strong Economics grade is also worth mentioning.
Your chances of admission into Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi
Lux Mundi took off in January 2024 at its temporary site in New Ndagbo City, Isiama Afaraukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, with faculties of Management Sciences, Law and Arts/Social Sciences, according to ThisDay. NUC has paired it with Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, as its mentor university. A university this new does not draw the crowds that ABSU or MOUAU see, so a candidate with 150 or more, the right subjects and a complete O’level has a realistic chance.
The common trap here is the UTME combination. Candidates who sat Commerce or Accounting as their fourth subject meet the business courses but not this one. Check your combination against the brochure list before you put Lux Mundi Economics and Development Studies on CAPS.
Timing matters too. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities. If you want Lux Mundi in a later cycle, have your O’level uploaded and your CAPS profile in order well before the deadline JAMB sets for that year.
How to apply for Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with Lux Mundi as your choice: pick Lux Mundi University and Economics and Development Studies on the JAMB registration screen, using English, Economics, Mathematics and Government (or another subject from the brochure list). First choice is the cleanest route; if you chose another school, you will need a JAMB change of institution before Lux Mundi can admit you.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. JAMB cannot approve an admission without it.
- Contact Lux Mundi for its application form: Varsity.ng links to an admission portal at portal.luxmundiuniversity.edu.ng. I could not open the official site to confirm it, so check the address with the university at its Umuahia campus before you pay for anything.
- Attend the screening: bring your JAMB result slip, O’level result, birth certificate and passport photographs, the usual set for Nigerian screening, and ask the admissions office what else it wants.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
- Pay acceptance and register: pay only through the university’s official channel, collect a receipt, complete clearance and print your JAMB admission letter.
Warning
JAMB said in May 2026 that any admission done outside CAPS is illegal. A genuine Lux Mundi offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page. In October 2026 free-advert sites carried posts selling Lux Mundi “post-UTME forms” through private phone numbers, and I found no Lux Mundi notice behind them. Never pay into a personal account for a form or a place.
Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each admission status and how to accept.
Lux Mundi Economics and Development Studies school fees
Lux Mundi has not published a fee schedule I could open. The only figures from the university side come from its founder, Prof. Gabriel Okenwa, at the take-off ceremony in January 2024, as reported by WAWA News Global.
| Item | Amount | Source and date |
|---|---|---|
| Average fee per session | ₦400,000 | Founder’s statement at take-off (reported January 2024) |
| Law per session | ₦600,000 | Founder’s statement at take-off (reported January 2024) |
| Economics and Development Studies fee for 2026/2027 or 2027/2028 | Not published | Ask the bursary |
Those figures are from January 2024 and may well be higher now. Ask the bursary for the current fee for Economics and Development Studies and what it covers. Treat blog fee tables that list Lux Mundi courses it is not known to run, such as Medicine, as unreliable.
Studying Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi University
Economics and Development Studies is listed at Lux Mundi with the social science courses, alongside Political Science, Public Administration and International Relations and Diplomacy. ThisDay reported a Faculty of Arts/Social Sciences at take-off, while Varsity.ng places the course in Management and Social Sciences, so confirm the faculty with the university. No course outline has been published, so the list below describes a typical Nigerian degree of this kind.
What you study
- Early years: principles of economics, mathematics for economists, statistics, introduction to development studies and Nigerian economy.
- Middle years: microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, public finance, monetary economics and development theory.
- Development focus: poverty and inequality, rural and urban development, population studies and project appraisal.
- Final year: economic planning, international economics, research methods and a project.
Duration and accreditation
UTME entrants normally take four years for this B.Sc., and Varsity.ng gives four years for Lux Mundi. Direct Entry usually takes three.
I found no NUC accreditation result for Economics and Development Studies at Lux Mundi. NUC’s 1990 to 2025 accreditation results publication could not be read as far as the universities starting with L, and a search of NUC’s programme reports returned nothing for Lux Mundi. That is expected for a university that took off in 2024: NUC usually visits a new programme for accreditation as the pioneer set approaches its final year. Until a result appears, treat accreditation as not confirmed and ask the university which NUC approval covers the programme.
Careers after the degree
- Analyst roles in banks, insurance, consulting and research firms
- Planning and statistics posts in ministries, agencies and local governments
- Programme and monitoring roles with NGOs and development partners

Mistakes that cost Economics and Development Studies applicants a Lux Mundi place
- Using Commerce or Accounting as the fourth UTME subject: they are not on this course’s list.
- Missing a Mathematics credit: the brochure requires it.
- Picking plain Economics when Lux Mundi lists a different title, or the other way round: check the screen.
- O’level not on CAPS: JAMB cannot approve the admission.
- Ignoring the four-week CAPS acceptance window.
- Paying for an admission ‘slot’: admission outside CAPS is illegal.

Sources and updates
The national minimum of 150, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities, the four-week CAPS acceptance window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s policy meeting (11 May 2026). News Central’s full list of institution cut-offs from the same meeting was checked and does not include Lux Mundi. The 2025/2026 minimum of 150 is from Channels TV (8 July 2025). The 140 figure and the 16-course count are from Lux Mundi’s NUCIS listing (last modified 24 July 2024). The subject and Direct Entry requirements are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB university brochure entry for Economics and Development Studies (Social and Management Sciences). The take-off date, campus, faculties and provisional licence come from ThisDay (18 January 2024); the operating licence and the Godfrey Okoye University mentorship come from The Guardian (5 October 2024) and Godfrey Okoye University’s own news page. The course listings come from nextschool.ng’s Lux Mundi profile (modified 5 April 2025), Varsity.ng’s 2026 course table and universitycourses.ng (updated 24 February 2026); none is an official Lux Mundi source. The form-selling adverts were on free-advert sites in October 2026. The Lux Mundi website did not load readable content when I checked on 29 October 2026. I will update this page when Lux Mundi publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice or a course list I can verify.
