The Clifford University cut-off mark for Biology is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta gives 150 as its general cut-off on the 2026/2027 admission notice, matching JAMB’s minimum for universities, and it has published no separate figure for Biology. Before you register, note that JAMB’s course list for Clifford has no plain “Biology”. The course listed is Applied Biology and Biotechnology.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Biology is in Clifford’s Faculty of Science. This page explains the name difference, gives the official figures and a safe target score (labelled as my advice), the UTME subjects and O’level from both JAMB and Clifford, Direct Entry including ND and NCE, what is known about screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and where the degree leads.

This page is about Clifford University at Ihie, near Owerrinta in Abia State, a private university owned by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and students come in by UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. Nothing on the site sets a higher bar for Biology.
Biology or Applied Biology and Biotechnology? Read this before JAMB registration
Clifford’s requirements page and fees page both call the course Biology. Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s list of Clifford courses has 35 entries, and none of them is Biology. In the sciences it shows Applied Biology and Biotechnology next to Microbiology and Biochemistry. Clifford’s fees page, in turn, has no line for Applied Biology and Biotechnology.
The likely explanation is that both names refer to the same department, but Clifford has not said so in anything I found. Here is how I would handle it:
- When you register, look for Clifford’s list on the JAMB portal and pick the course that appears there, which on current information is Applied Biology and Biotechnology.
- Call Clifford’s admissions office before you pay for registration and ask them to confirm that this is the JAMB course for their Biology degree.
- If you already registered a different course, use a JAMB change of course to move to the right name before admission closes.
Getting this right matters because admission is offered on CAPS against the exact course you registered. An offer cannot appear for a course name that is not on the university’s JAMB list.
Clifford Biology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, equal to the JAMB minimum | Official: Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for Biology alone | Never published in any source I reached |
An admissions blog claimed in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates who scored 130 or more but did not choose it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, quotes no university notice, and is below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so I would not plan around 130. News Central also printed the full list of cut-offs institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. Clifford is missing from it, which means there is no separate policy-meeting figure for Clifford to quote.
Safe target score for Biology at Clifford (my advice)
In my experience, pure and applied Biology attract fewer applicants than Nursing, Medical Laboratory Science or Microbiology, and many Biology students are candidates who missed those courses. At Clifford that usually means less pressure on scores. These bands are my reading; Clifford has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Clifford Biology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Clifford degree course |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; complete science credits and an early application matter most |
| 160 to 184 | Good chance |
| 185 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 165 or more. If you are really hoping for a health course and see Biology as a fallback, aim higher still and talk to the department about any change of course rules after 100 level.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Biology
The rules for this course are close on both sides, which helps. Here they are with their sources.
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB, Applied Biology and Biotechnology) | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology and either Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects (Clifford) | English Language, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics | Clifford requirements page |
| O’level (JAMB) | Five credits in English Language, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and one of Health Science, Statistics, Physics and Geography | JAMB brochure |
| O’level (Clifford) | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and any other related science subject | Clifford requirements page |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Clifford requirements page |
| Clifford remark in the JAMB brochure | None | Myschool reprint of the brochure |
Register Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, or Mathematics in place of Physics if that is your stronger subject. Both are accepted on both pages. Your revision should start with the JAMB Biology syllabus and the JAMB Chemistry syllabus, since those two subjects are fixed.
For the O’level, English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology are fixed. For the fifth credit, Physics is the safest choice: it is on JAMB’s list and it is clearly a related science for Clifford. Agricultural Science may count as a related science at Clifford, but it is not on JAMB’s list for this course, so ask before you rely on it.
Direct Entry into Biology at Clifford
Clifford accepts either of these, plus the UTME O’level requirements above:
- Two A-level passes from Botany, Zoology, Biology or Chemistry
- An ND or NCE in a related field
JAMB’s general rule for Applied Biology and Biotechnology asks for two A-level passes in Biology and either Chemistry or Physics, so Biology with Chemistry fits both. Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page adds the practical rules:
- Direct Entry students start at 200 level.
- Every Direct Entry candidate writes Clifford’s screening test, except JUPEB candidates.
- A complete transcript or statement of result is required before admission.
- GST courses stay compulsory, and there are no whole-session exemptions.
Clifford does not give a minimum grade for the ND or NCE route on its Biology page. Ask the admissions office what class of result they expect.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for Biology
Clifford has not published a screening date, form fee or test format for Biology in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm two things. The undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in “via Post UTME or Direct Entry”, and the Transfer and Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a university screening test, with JUPEB candidates the only exception. Applications go through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.
An October 2025 blog post said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither claim appears on Clifford’s website, so call the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example compares scores with the 150 floor and my target score. In case a test is set, it also uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME score divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). The method is my illustration, not Clifford’s.
- Oluchi: UTME 171, credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics in one sitting. She is 21 above the floor and 6 above my target.
- If there is a test: Oluchi scores 56%. 171 divided by 8 is 21.375; half of 56 is 28. Her illustrative aggregate is 49.375.
- Kenechukwu: UTME 157 (19.625) and 72% at screening (36). His aggregate is 55.625, ahead of Oluchi with 14 fewer UTME marks.
- Adanna: UTME 196, but a D7 in Chemistry. Both JAMB and Clifford require a Chemistry credit, so her score cannot carry her.
If Clifford sets a test for science applicants, expect English, Biology and Chemistry at SSCE level, and possibly some Mathematics.
Clifford University Biology school fees and acceptance fee
Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website, under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. Biology appears under the Faculty of Science. The programme figures carry only the label “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers, especially hostel and feeding. The same N845,000 applies to the other Faculty of Science courses, such as Microbiology, Biochemistry and Chemistry.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| Biology programme amount | N845,000 | Each session |
In 2026/2027 terms, a new 100-level Biology student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,045,000 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. You can pay the programme amount in full, or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a message someone forwards to you.
How to apply for Biology at Clifford, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose the Clifford course on JAMB’s list (Applied Biology and Biotechnology) with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose Biology, fill the form and keep your printout.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Biology candidates will be screened.
- Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.
Warning
Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Biology at Clifford University
Biology is in Clifford’s Faculty of Science. The usual length of a B.Sc. in Nigeria is four years, or three through Direct Entry; Clifford’s requirements page does not state the duration or the exact degree title, so confirm both at screening, along with whether your certificate will read Biology or Applied Biology and Biotechnology.
Is Clifford Biology accredited?
Not confirmed. Biology was not among the eight programmes Clifford said received full NUC accreditation in March 2023. The notice spoke of “eight more”, so some older programmes had been accredited earlier, but I found no NUC result for this one. Ask the department for its NUC status before you pay fees.
What you will study
Clifford has not posted its course outline. Biology and applied biology degrees in Nigeria usually include:
- Plant and animal biology: botany, zoology, plant and animal physiology, and taxonomy.
- Cell and molecular biology: cell biology, genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry.
- Microbes and biotechnology: general microbiology, applied biotechnology and laboratory techniques.
- Ecology: ecology, environmental biology, conservation and parasitology.
- Support courses: chemistry, physics, mathematics, biostatistics and research methods.
- Practice: laboratory work, field trips, an industrial attachment (SIWES) and a final-year project.
Graduates work as science teachers, laboratory and research assistants, quality control staff in food, drinks and pharmaceutical firms, environmental and conservation officers, and sales representatives for laboratory and health products. Many take a master’s degree in genetics, biotechnology, ecology or public health.

Mistakes Biology applicants make
- Registering a course that is not on Clifford’s JAMB list: check the course name on the JAMB portal.
- A weak Chemistry or Mathematics result: both credits are required.
- An unlisted fifth science: Physics is the safest fifth credit.
- Using three sittings: Clifford accepts not more than two.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still pay the acceptance fee and complete clearance.
