Clifford University Cut-Off Mark for Medical Laboratory Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Clifford University’s cut-off for Medical Laboratory Science is the 150 it states for all courses. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level, Direct Entry, screening, NUC and MLSCN status, and the N1,560,000 fee.

The Clifford University cut-off mark for Medical Laboratory Science is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta gives 150 as its general cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a separate figure for the BMLS. So 150 is the official floor. Because MLS is a five-credit science course that many failed Medicine and Nursing applicants also want, I would plan for well above it.

2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Medical Laboratory Science sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and it is one of the eight Clifford programmes the NUC fully accredited in its 2022 exercise. Below are the official figures, a safe target score labelled as my advice, the subject combination checked on both JAMB’s brochure and Clifford’s own page, Direct Entry, what is known about screening, fees, the CAPS steps and the licensing question you should ask.

This page covers Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and candidates come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. No separate MLS figure exists, so 150 is the number every UTME applicant must reach.

An admissions blog wrote in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates with 130 and above, including those who did not pick it first. That post came out before the 2026 UTME, cites no Clifford notice, and sits below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage, so do not plan around 130. News Central printed the full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote either.

Safe target score for Medical Laboratory Science at Clifford (my advice)

MLS is a professional health course, and at most Nigerian universities it attracts candidates who first wanted Medicine, Pharmacy or Nursing. Clifford’s applicant pool is smaller than the federal and state universities in the South East, which helps you, but it does not publish its last admitted scores. These bands are my reading as an admissions adviser, not a Clifford figure.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Clifford MLS
Below 150Not eligible for any Clifford degree course
150 to 169Eligible; your O’level and an early application must carry you
170 to 199Good chance
200 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 190 or more. That score keeps MLS open at a few public universities as well, if Clifford is one of several options for you.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford MLS

RequirementWhat appliesSource

UTME subjects (JAMB)Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and BiologyJAMB brochure (Myschool reprint)
UTME subjects (Clifford)Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Zoology, with EnglishClifford requirements page

Clifford’s O’level ruleFive credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, plus an acceptable UTME scoreClifford requirements page
SittingsNot more than twoClifford requirements page

JAMB and Clifford say the same thing. The UTME subjects are fixed: Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Clifford’s page mentions Zoology as an alternative to Biology, but Zoology is not a UTME subject, so in practice you register Biology. Mathematics is not in your UTME but it is one of the five O’level credits.

The O’level list names all five subjects, so a D7 in Physics or Mathematics is enough to block you. If you have one weak result, write NECO or the WAEC GCE and combine the two results; Clifford accepts two sittings, never three. JAMB’s brochure entry for MLS carries remarks for more than fifteen universities and none for Clifford.

Direct Entry into Medical Laboratory Science at Clifford

Clifford’s page gives two Direct Entry routes for MLS, on top of the UTME O’level requirements:

  • Passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology at Higher School Certificate or GCE A-level (or equivalent)
  • An acceptable first degree in a relevant biological or physical science

JAMB’s general rule is A-level passes that include Physics, Chemistry and Biology or Zoology, so the two lists agree. Neither Clifford’s page nor JAMB’s general text mentions ND, HND or the AIMLS professional certificate for this course; some universities accept them through their own remarks, but Clifford has none. If you hold one of those, ask Clifford before you register for Direct Entry.

Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page sets three general rules: Direct Entry students start at 200 level, they must present a complete transcript or statement of result before admission, and all of them write a university screening test unless they hold JUPEB. Clifford runs its own JUPEB (Foundation) programme, which is one way into 200 level if you have no A-levels.

Clifford Post-UTME screening for MLS

Clifford has not published a screening date, fee or test format for MLS in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm that undergraduate applicants come in through Post-UTME or Direct Entry, and that every Direct Entry candidate writes a screening test unless they hold JUPEB. Applications go through soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.

For a sense of how Clifford screens health courses, its Nursing department held a computer-based test in O’level Biology, Physics and Chemistry for the 2023/2024 session, with a compulsory drug test and no second sitting. Clifford has not said MLS follows the same format, but revising those three O’level subjects is sensible preparation either way.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example below uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage) only to show how the pieces interact. It is my illustration, not Clifford’s method.

  1. Tobenna: UTME 196, five science credits at one sitting, 60% at screening. 196 divided by 8 is 24.5; half of 60 is 30. Illustrative aggregate: 54.5.
  2. Nneka: UTME 172 (21.5) and 78% at screening (39). Aggregate 60.5, ahead of Tobenna with 24 fewer UTME marks.
  3. Uche: UTME 220, but only a pass in Mathematics. Clifford names Mathematics among the five credits, so he must fix that result first.
  4. Ada: A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, applying through Direct Entry. She skips the UTME but still writes Clifford’s Direct Entry screening test.

Clifford University Medical Laboratory Science school fees and acceptance fee

Clifford posts its fees by programme on its website under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. The programme figures are labelled only “amount”, so treat each one as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers. Hostel, feeding and medical charges are not listed on that page.

ItemAmount (2026/2027)Who pays
Acceptance feeN150,000New students, once
Matriculation feeN50,000100 level only
Medical Laboratory Science programme amountN1,560,000Each session
Nursing ScienceN1,740,000For comparison
Public Health and Environmental Health ScienceN1,293,500 eachFor comparison
Microbiology and other Faculty of Science coursesN845,000For comparison

On 2026/2027 figures, a 100-level Medical Laboratory Science student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,760,000 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. Clifford allows full payment or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself, never from a forwarded message.

How to apply for Medical Laboratory Science at Clifford, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Medical Laboratory Science with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Pick Clifford University as your institution. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot recommend you on CAPS without it, and awaiting-result candidates must upload as soon as the result is out.
  4. Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the Apply Now button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create an account, choose Medical Laboratory Science, complete the form and keep your printout.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Medical Laboratory Science candidates will be screened.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.

Warning

Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.

Studying Medical Laboratory Science at Clifford University

The degree is the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLS), normally five years in Nigeria, with a laboratory internship after graduation. Clifford’s page does not state the duration, so confirm it with the department.

Is Clifford MLS accredited?

By the NUC, yes. Clifford announced on 21 March 2023 that the NUC granted full accreditation to “BMLS. Medical Laboratory Science” and seven other programmes after the November and December 2022 exercise. The other body that matters is the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN), which approves training programmes and licenses medical laboratory scientists. I could not find a published MLSCN approval for Clifford, so MLSCN status is not confirmed. Ask the department for its MLSCN approval letter before you pay fees, because induction, internship and your licence depend on it.

What you study

  • Basic medical sciences: anatomy, physiology and biochemistry in the early years.
  • Laboratory disciplines: medical microbiology, chemical pathology (clinical chemistry), haematology and blood transfusion science, and histopathology.
  • Supporting areas: immunology, parasitology, laboratory management and quality control.
  • Practice: hospital laboratory postings and a final-year research project.

Licensed medical laboratory scientists work in hospital and private diagnostic laboratories, blood banks, public health and research laboratories, and in sales and support for diagnostic companies. The licence also opens postgraduate study in any of the laboratory specialties.

Public Health and Environmental Health Science use the same UTME subjects and five O’level credits as MLS, so you can change course to either on JAMB without new results. Microbiology and Biochemistry are cheaper science options, but they do not lead to the MLSCN licence.

Mistakes MLS applicants make

  • Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered.
  • Registering Mathematics in the UTME: MLS needs Physics, Chemistry and Biology; Mathematics belongs in your O’level.
  • Assuming Microbiology leads to the same licence: only the BMLS route leads to MLSCN registration as a medical laboratory scientist.
  • Using three sittings: Clifford allows not more than two.
  • Not asking about MLSCN: NUC accreditation alone does not settle the licensing question.

Writing the UTME next year? Read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and work through the JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus. If you already have a score, see what to do with your JAMB result, and if you registered a different course, our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch.
