The Clifford University cut-off mark for Biochemistry is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta states 150 as its general cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has not published a separate figure for the B.Sc. Biochemistry. So 150 is the official floor: reach it, choose Clifford, hold five credits in English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, and you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Biochemistry sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Science. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (labelled as my advice), the subject combination checked against both JAMB’s brochure and Clifford’s own page, the Direct Entry routes, what is known about screening, the 2026/2027 fees, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.

This page is about Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta, in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 admission notice says the JAMB cut-off is 150 and that candidates come in through UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. It gives no separate figure for Biochemistry, so 150 is the number every UTME applicant for this course has to reach.
Clifford Biochemistry cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, same as the JAMB minimum | Official, Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for Biochemistry alone | Not published in any source I reached |
One admissions blog wrote in October 2025 that Clifford invites candidates with 130 and above who did not pick it as first choice. That post appeared before the 2026 UTME, cites no university notice, and sits below the 150 that Clifford itself now states, so do not plan around 130. A July 2025 Myschool news item on Clifford’s 2025/2026 screening gave no score at all. News Central published the full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote.
Safe target score for Biochemistry at Clifford (my advice)
Biochemistry is one of the most popular science courses in Nigeria because it sits close to Medicine and Pharmacy, and many strong candidates who miss those courses land in it. Clifford’s pool is smaller than the big public universities, but I would still leave a margin. These bands are my reading as an admissions adviser. Clifford has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Clifford Biochemistry |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Clifford degree course |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; your O’level and an early application carry you |
| 165 to 189 | Good chance |
| 190 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 175 or more. That score also keeps Biochemistry within reach at several state universities.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Clifford Biochemistry
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB) | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects (Clifford) | English Language, Biology, Chemistry and either Physics or Mathematics | Clifford requirements page |
| JAMB’s O’level rule | Five credits in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology | JAMB brochure |
| Clifford’s O’level rule | Five credits in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology | Clifford requirements page |
| Sittings | Not more than two | Clifford requirements page |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE) or equivalent | Clifford requirements page |
JAMB and Clifford match for Biochemistry. Biology and Chemistry are fixed, and the fourth subject is Physics or Mathematics. If you are using Biochemistry as a second option to Medicine, Pharmacy or Nursing, your Medicine combination (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) already fits, which makes a later change of course easy.
On the O’level side, all five subjects are named, Physics included. Check your result slip before you register: a pass in Physics or Mathematics will block you however high your UTME score is.
JAMB’s brochure entry for Biochemistry carries no remark specific to Clifford University, so the general JAMB rule and Clifford’s own page are the two things to satisfy.
Direct Entry into Biochemistry at Clifford
Direct Entry candidates join at 200 level. For Biochemistry, Clifford’s page accepts one of these, in addition to the O’level requirements:
- Two A-level passes not below grade C in Chemistry and Biology
- ND or HND in a related field, plus the UTME requirements
Clifford is stricter than JAMB here. JAMB’s general rule allows two A-level passes chosen from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, and also accepts NCE, ND or HND in related programmes with the UTME requirements. Clifford wants Chemistry and Biology specifically, at grade C or better, and its page does not mention NCE. If your A-levels are Chemistry and Physics, for example, JAMB will register you but Clifford’s page would not accept you. Plan for Chemistry and Biology.
Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page adds three general rules: Direct Entry students start at 200 level, they must present a complete transcript or statement of result before admission, and all of them sit a university screening test except JUPEB candidates. Clifford runs its own JUPEB programme, which is one way into 200 level if you have no A-levels.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for Biochemistry
Clifford has not published a screening date, fee or test format for Biochemistry in any source I could reach. Its own pages confirm two things: the undergraduate requirements page tells applicants to come in through Post-UTME or Direct Entry, and the Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate sits a screening test unless they hold JUPEB. Online applications go through the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.
A blog post from October 2025 said the form was free and that candidates would write an aptitude test on a date to be announced. Neither point appears on Clifford’s website, so ask the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example below compares scores with the 150 floor and my target, and, in case a test is set, it uses the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities (UTME divided by 8, plus half of the screening percentage). This is my illustration only.
- Uchenna: UTME 183 with credits in English, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology in one sitting. He is 33 above the floor and 8 above my target.
- If there is a test: Uchenna scores 60%. 183 divided by 8 is 22.88; half of 60 is 30. His illustrative aggregate is 52.88.
- Ifeoma: UTME 167 (20.88) and 78% at screening (39). Her aggregate is 59.88, ahead of Uchenna with 16 fewer UTME marks.
- Obinna (Direct Entry): A-level passes in Chemistry (B) and Physics (C). JAMB’s rule accepts that pairing, but Clifford’s page asks for Chemistry and Biology, so he should confirm with Clifford before choosing it on JAMB.
Lock in all five credits, then prepare for English, Biology and Chemistry questions in case Clifford sets a test.
Clifford University Biochemistry school fees and acceptance fee
Clifford posts its approved fees by programme on its website, under the heading “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. The programme figures are labelled only “amount”, so treat them as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what they cover, especially hostel and feeding, which the page does not list.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| Biochemistry programme amount | N845,000 | Each session |
| Other Faculty of Science courses (for example Computer Science, Physics, Microbiology) | N845,000 | For comparison |
| Nursing Science and Medical Laboratory Science | N1,740,000 and N1,560,000 | For comparison |
In 2026/2027 terms, a 100-level Biochemistry student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,045,000 before hostel, feeding, books and personal costs. Clifford lets you pay the programme amount in full, or 60% for the first semester and 40% for the second. The bank account is printed on the fees page; copy it from that page yourself rather than from a message someone forwards to you.
How to apply for Biochemistry at Clifford, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Biochemistry with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, and pick Clifford University. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the Apply Now button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose Biochemistry, fill the form and keep your printout.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Biochemistry candidates will be screened.
- Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.
Warning
Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Biochemistry at Clifford University
Biochemistry is a four-year B.Sc. in Clifford’s Faculty of Science, or three years through Direct Entry at 200 level. It shares early courses with Chemistry and Microbiology, which Clifford also runs.
Is Clifford Biochemistry accredited?
Not confirmed. Clifford’s March 2023 announcement of full NUC accreditation covered eight programmes, and Biochemistry was not among them; that list matched the eight courses Clifford introduced in 2022/2023, while Biochemistry is one of the older programmes Clifford already ran. A 2024 convocation report said Clifford’s graduates were trained in programmes certified by the NUC, but it named no programme or status. Ask the department for Biochemistry’s current NUC status before you pay fees, because accreditation affects NYSC mobilisation and how employers and postgraduate schools read your degree.
What you study
- Foundations: general chemistry, biology, physics and mathematics, then organic and physical chemistry.
- Core biochemistry: biomolecules (proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids), enzymology and metabolism.
- Molecular side: molecular biology, genetics and an introduction to biotechnology.
- Applied areas: clinical and nutritional biochemistry, toxicology and pharmacological biochemistry.
- Practice: laboratory techniques, industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.
Biochemists work in pharmaceutical and food companies, research institutes, quality assurance, agro-allied industries and teaching, and a good number go on to postgraduate study in pharmacology, molecular biology or public health. Biochemistry is not a licensing route into hospital laboratories; that path runs through Medical Laboratory Science, which Clifford also offers.

Mistakes Biochemistry applicants make
- Treating 150 as admission: it is only the minimum to be considered.
- Ignoring Physics in O’level: Clifford’s list names it, even if you write Mathematics in the UTME.
- DE with the wrong A-levels: Clifford asks for Chemistry and Biology at grade C or better.
- Using three sittings: Clifford allows not more than two.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still pay acceptance and complete clearance.

Clifford’s UTME subjects, O’level list, two-sitting rule and Direct Entry options for Biochemistry come from its undergraduate admission requirements page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). JAMB’s UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules for Biochemistry are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure, which carries no Clifford remark, and Myschool’s list of Clifford’s JAMB courses shows Biochemistry under that name. The general cut-off of 150, the admission routes, the portal and the admissions phone numbers come from the Clifford University homepage (checked 29 October 2026), which also carries the May 2024 impostor warning. The acceptance, matriculation and programme fees and the 60/40 payment option are from Clifford’s approved fees page for 2026/2027. The Direct Entry screening rule and 200-level entry come from Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page. The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs from that meeting does not include Clifford. NUC full accreditation for eight Clifford programmes is from Clifford’s news item of 21 March 2023, and the convocation details are from an AllAfrica report of October 2024. The safe target score, subject advice and worked example are my own guidance. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Clifford publishes a course cut-off or screening notice.
