The ABSU cut off mark for Marketing is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Abia State University (ABSU) set for every regular degree course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, for candidates who picked ABSU as first or second choice. ABSU did not publish a separate Marketing figure, so 150 gets you into screening and nothing more. Admission is then by merit among everyone who applied for the course.
2027/2028 update: ABSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Marketing at ABSU is easier to plan for than most guides suggest, because the JAMB brochure rules are short and NUC’s record for the course is good. The one trap sits in Direct Entry, where ABSU asks for something other universities do not. Below are the official figures, a safe target score, the exact JAMB subjects, the screening steps, the NUC position and what the degree leads to.
ABSU Marketing cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| ABSU minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, ABSU first or second choice | ABSU notice reprinted by Osilight and Myschool, June 2026 |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Departmental cut-off for Marketing | Not published | ABSU released no per-course figures |
| My safe target score | 180 or more | My advice, not an ABSU rule |
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Marketing | ABSU’s JAMB course list (Myschool reprint) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics, plus one other relevant subject | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics and any three relevant subjects | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes; ABSU also requires A-level Mathematics | JAMB brochure, ABSU remark |
| NUC status | Full (latest result listed, maturity date 2028) | NUC accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 | Notice reprint |
ABSU Marketing cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Lowest UTME score ABSU accepted for online screening in any regular degree course (ABSU as first or second choice) | ABSU notice, reprinted 8 to 9 June 2026 |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for every Nigerian university | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | I could not open an ABSU notice for that session | Unverified |
| Marketing figure | None published | Blog “departmental cut-off” tables cite no ABSU document | Unofficial |
ABSU’s notice gave one figure for all courses. A page that prints an official ABSU cut-off for Marketing alone is quoting a number ABSU never released. The real cut-off each year is the score of the last candidate admitted into Marketing, and ABSU does not publish it.
Safe target score for Marketing at ABSU (my advice)
In my experience Marketing draws fewer applicants than Accountancy or Business Administration at South East universities, but it is still a popular business course, and ABSU fills it from the same pool of Economics and Mathematics candidates. This table is my reading, not an ABSU rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for ABSU Marketing |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for screening |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; you need clean O’level credits and a backup plan |
| 165 to 179 | A fair chance, better with Mathematics and English at B3 or above |
| 180 to 199 | Good |
| 200 and above | Strong |
I would aim for 180 or more. If you score in the 150s and also applied for Accountancy or Business Administration, think about whether Marketing is the course you would rather hold. A change of course to Marketing is easier to do on JAMB before ABSU starts admitting than after.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for Marketing at ABSU
| Requirement | What the JAMB brochure says |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Marketing (listed under Administration on ABSU’s course list) |
| UTME | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics, plus one other relevant subject |
| O’level | Five SSC credits including English Language, Mathematics and any three relevant subjects |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes chosen from Accounting, Management, Government and Geography |
| ABSU remark (Direct Entry) | ABSU requires A-level Mathematics |
| ABSU remarks (UTME and O’level) | None; the remarks on this entry name other universities |
Which fourth UTME subject should you pick?
The brochure fixes three of your four subjects: Use of English, Mathematics and Economics. The fourth only has to be “relevant”, and ABSU added no remark to narrow it. I would write Government or Commerce. Both are business or social science subjects that no admissions officer would question, and Government keeps courses like Political Science open if you change course later. Physics or Biology would be an odd choice for a business degree, so avoid them.
O’level: what counts as relevant
The O’level line asks for English Language, Mathematics and any three relevant subjects. In practice that means Economics plus two of Commerce, Financial Accounting, Government, Geography, Literature in English or Civic Education. Since Economics is compulsory in the UTME, I would treat an Economics credit as essential even though the general line does not name it. A credit in Mathematics is not optional, and a C6 in Mathematics or English is accepted but weakens you in a merit ranking.
Direct Entry for Marketing at ABSU
The general Direct Entry line accepts two A-level passes chosen from Accounting, Management, Government and Geography. ABSU has its own remark on top of that: it requires A-level Mathematics. So a candidate with A-level Government and Geography would meet the general rule and still fall short at ABSU. The brochure has no ABSU remark on ND or HND holders for Marketing, and the 2026/2027 notice adds that Direct Entry candidates need the basic five O’level credits. Ask the admissions office which level you would enter before buying a Direct Entry form.
How ABSU screens Marketing applicants
ABSU’s 2026/2027 notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu. I could not open the original on the ABSU website, so the details below come from two reprints that agree with each other: Osilight (posted 9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026).
| Detail | What the 2026/2027 notice said |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice, or who changed to ABSU, and scored 150 or more in the UTME |
| Direct Entry | Basic five O’level credit passes under ABSU’s entry requirements |
| Where to register | Online at www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng |
| What to upload | UTME result, O’level result and degree certificate where applicable, on the ABSU portal (www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng) and the JAMB portal |
| Fee | ₦2,000 by e-payment through the banks named in the notice, or by debit card |
| Missing the screening | Candidates who do not register “will not be considered for admission” |
| Written test | Not mentioned; the notice describes online document screening |
| Closing date | Not stated in the reprints |
The bank names came out garbled in the reprint, so follow the payment options on the ABSU portal itself. Because the notice describes no written test, your UTME score and your O’level grades are what ABSU has in front of it when it ranks Marketing applicants. A strong credit in Mathematics matters more in Marketing than many candidates expect, because the course leans on statistics and market research.
Worked example for Marketing candidates
ABSU has not published an aggregate formula, and the 2026/2027 notice describes document screening without a test. To show how your O’level can change your position, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not ABSU’s formula.
- Adaeze scored 178 with B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, A1 in Economics, B3 in Commerce and B3 in Government. UTME points: 178 ÷ 8 = 22.25. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 10 + 8 + 8 = 43. Illustrative total: 65.25.
- Kelechi scored 196 with C6 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Economics, C6 in Commerce and C4 in Government. UTME points: 196 ÷ 8 = 24.5. O’level points: 5 + 5 + 6 + 5 + 7 = 28. Illustrative total: 52.5.
- The result: Adaeze leads by 12.75 points even though Kelechi scored 18 marks more in the UTME. Weak credits cost Kelechi 15 O’level points, which no realistic UTME gap can make up.
How to apply for Marketing at ABSU, step by step
- Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS and you take it to a CBT centre to register.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Marketing at Abia State University with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and a relevant fourth subject such as Government or Commerce. ABSU screened first and second choice candidates in 2026/2027, but first choice is still the cleaner position. To move ABSU up later, use a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. Check that the upload shows English, Mathematics and Economics clearly.
- Register for ABSU screening: when the notice is out, go to www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) and upload your UTME result and O’level on the ABSU portal.
- Keep your receipts: save the payment receipt and a printout of the completed screening form. You may need both at clearance.
- Check your status: watch the ABSU portal and your JAMB CAPS page. An ABSU offer shows on CAPS first.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: ABSU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your ABSU portal invoice.
Warning
Every genuine ABSU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Anyone who asks for money to “process” a Marketing place is not acting for ABSU. Pay only through the ABSU portal.
JAMB kept 31 October 2026 as the date public universities such as ABSU should finish 2026/2027 admissions (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). If you applied this year, the window runs until then, so check CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.
Marketing at ABSU: the programme
Marketing belongs to ABSU’s College of Business Administration on the main campus at Uturu, Isuikwuato LGA, alongside Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration and Management. ABSU began in 1981 as Imo State University and took its present name after Abia State was created in 1991.
What you study
ABSU has not published a Marketing course outline that I could reach. Marketing degrees in Nigeria follow the NUC benchmark for Administration and Management, so you can expect:
- First-year foundations: principles of economics, business mathematics, introduction to business and accounting, and general studies courses.
- Core marketing: principles of marketing, consumer behaviour, marketing research, product and brand management, pricing and sales management.
- Distribution and trade: retailing, distribution channels, international marketing and export trade.
- Communication: advertising, sales promotion, public relations and digital marketing.
- Quantitative work: business statistics and market analysis, which is where Mathematics pays off.
- Practical work: SIWES industrial attachment and a final-year research project.
Accreditation, degree and duration
NUC’s publication of accreditation results from 1990 to 2025 lists ABSU Marketing under Administration and Management with two early interim results followed by four full results, and a maturity date of 2028. The extracted text does not line up each result with its year, so I read the last entry as the latest: full accreditation, due for its next visit in 2028. That is a sound record for a business course. The degree is normally B.Sc Marketing, and four years is the usual length for UTME entrants; ABSU’s own page confirming either was not available.
What about Advertising and Public Relations?
The Whistler reported on 29 September 2026, quoting ABSU’s Media Unit, that NUC approved ten new ABSU programmes effective from 2026/2027, including B.Sc Advertising and B.Sc Public Relations. Both overlap with the communication side of Marketing. Neither appeared on ABSU’s JAMB course list when I checked on 29 October 2026, so Marketing is the one you can register for now. If the new courses show up on JAMB before your registration, compare them with Marketing before you choose.

Mistakes that cost Marketing applicants an ABSU place
- Leaving out Economics: it is one of the three fixed UTME subjects for Marketing.
- Assuming any two A-levels will do for Direct Entry: ABSU requires A-level Mathematics.
- Uploading O’level results with a missing Mathematics credit: a pass in Mathematics ends the application.
- Registering for Advertising or Public Relations before they appear on JAMB: check ABSU’s JAMB list first.
- Not registering for screening: the notice says such candidates will not be considered.
- Missing the CAPS window: JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer.
ABSU Marketing: frequently asked questions
Is 170 good for Marketing in ABSU? Yes, 170 clears the 150 minimum and gives you a fair chance if your O’level credits in English, Mathematics and Economics are strong. I would still treat 180 as the safe zone.
What are the JAMB subjects for Marketing in ABSU? Use of English, Mathematics and Economics, plus one other relevant subject. Government or Commerce is my pick for the fourth.
Can I enter ABSU Marketing by Direct Entry with A-level Government and Geography? Not on those two alone. The JAMB brochure says ABSU requires A-level Mathematics for Marketing, on top of the general two A-level passes.
Is Marketing in ABSU accredited by NUC? NUC’s published results list full accreditation as the latest result for ABSU Marketing, with a maturity date of 2028.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the first and second choice rule, the Direct Entry line, the ₦2,000 fee, the registration and upload steps and the warning about candidates who fail to register come from ABSU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, as reprinted by Osilight (9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026); I could not open the original on the ABSU website. The national minimum of 150, the four-week CAPS window and the warning on admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026), and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities from Nairametrics (28 September 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Marketing, which ABSU’s JAMB course list links to. The accreditation history comes from NUC’s accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 publication. The Advertising and Public Relations approvals come from The Whistler (29 September 2026). Campus and history details come from Wikipedia. ABSU’s fees, the degree title and duration were not published in any source I reached. The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if ABSU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
