Spiritan University Banking and Finance Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Spiritan University, Nneochi asks Banking and Finance candidates for at least the national cut-off of 150. See the JAMB combination (Mathematics compulsory), O’level rules, Direct Entry routes, screening, CAPS steps and accreditation.

The Spiritan University Banking and Finance cut off mark 2027 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) does not publish a separate figure for Banking and Finance. Its admissions page asks every applicant for at least the national cut-off, and JAMB’s national minimum for universities is 150 for 2026/2027. In 2024/2025 SUN’s own figure was 140.

2027/2028 update: SUN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The subject rules matter more here than the score. JAMB’s brochure makes Mathematics compulsory in the UTME and names Economics among your O’level credits, and SUN wants a credit in Mathematics on top. This guide covers the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the combination to register, Direct Entry (including professional certificates), screening, the CAPS steps and accreditation.

Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans). Its campus is on the Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road at Nneato-Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, and it was licensed on 6 December 2017. Its admissions page now carries the headline “2026/2027 Admission in Progress”.

SUN tracked the national floor: 140 in 2024/2025, then the national 150. The admissions page still names the 2025/2026 UTME in one line under a 2026/2027 headline, which looks like carried-over wording; for 2026/2027 the national minimum is 150. SUN is absent from News Central’s full list of institution cut-offs declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so there is no other number to plan with.

Safe target score for Banking and Finance at SUN (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a SUN rule. Banking and Finance is one of SUN’s management courses, alongside Accounting and Business Administration and Marketing, and none of them has a published cut-off of its own.

Your UTME scoreMy read for SUN Banking and Finance
Below 150Not eligible for any SUN degree course this cycle
150 to 159Eligible; your Mathematics and Economics credits decide most cases
160 to 179Good chance
180 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 160 or more and treat A1 to C6 in Mathematics and Economics as non-negotiable.

Spiritan remark in the brochureNone. The brochure entry has no remark that names SUNMyschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026

Register Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Government (Commerce or Principles of Accounts also work as the fourth). JAMB’s brochure does not name Economics in the UTME line; it asks for Mathematics, one Social Science subject and any other. Economics is still the sensible Social Science subject, because the course is built on it and the O’level line needs an Economics credit anyway. Some guides wrongly list Economics as compulsory in the UTME. It is the O’level credit that JAMB requires.

For the two other O’level credits, Financial Accounting, Commerce, Government and Geography are the usual choices. SUN accepts WASC, SSCE and NECO results in not more than two sittings.

Direct Entry into Banking and Finance at SUN

JAMB’s brochure gives Banking and Finance more Direct Entry routes than most courses: two A-level passes in Accounting or Economics and one other subject, an NCE at merit in relevant subjects, an ND at credit, or a foundation-level professional exam such as ICAN, ACCA, ICMA or GPFA. Your O’level credits still have to meet the course rules.

SUN’s admissions page does not mention Direct Entry. If you hold an ND in Banking and Finance or Accountancy, ask the admissions office in writing whether it admits Direct Entry candidates into this course and at what level before you pay for anything.

How Spiritan University admits Banking and Finance candidates

SUN’s admissions page tells candidates to make Spiritan University their choice on the JAMB form, and it adds that candidates who did not do so can still apply. You apply either through the online form linked from that page or with a paper form. The page lists 13 places where paper forms are available, including the campus, several Catholic parishes, and Spiritan institutions in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Abuja, Lagos, Edo and Delta.

The page does not describe a post-UTME test, a screening date or a form price, and none of the SUN pages I checked on 29 October 2026 gives an aggregate formula. A 2022 blog said SUN screened candidates after the UTME. So treat a short test or an interview as possible, and call the admissions lines before you travel.

If SUN was not on your JAMB registration, your offer still has to come through CAPS, so you will need a JAMB change of institution to Spiritan University before admission closes. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities such as SUN.

Documents to have ready

SUN’s 2021/2022 notice, reprinted by Myschool, asked screening candidates for these. Bring them unless the current notice says otherwise:

  • Your original JAMB result slip with your photograph
  • Proof of your JAMB subject combination for Banking and Finance
  • Your O’level result (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), with the scratch card or online printout if you have it
  • Your printout of the change of institution, if SUN was not your original choice

Worked example (illustrative only)

SUN publishes no aggregate formula, so this example checks each candidate against the rules and my target. If SUN sets a test, many universities use a 50:50 method (UTME divided by 8, plus half the test percentage); that is my illustration only.

  1. Chiamaka: UTME 166 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Government. Credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Financial Accounting and Commerce in one sitting. She meets every rule.
  2. Tobenna: UTME 174 in English, Economics, Government and Literature, with no Mathematics. He fails the UTME rule outright, whatever his score.
  3. Adaeze: UTME 155 with the right subjects. If a test is set and she scores 64%, her illustrative aggregate is 155 divided by 8 (19.375) plus 32, which is 51.375.

Tobenna’s case is the most common one I see: a good score in the wrong combination. Fixing it means a change of course to something that does not need Mathematics, or waiting for the next UTME.

How to apply for Banking and Finance at Spiritan University, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Spiritan University and “Banking and Finance”, with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Government or Commerce. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to SUN.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. SUN cannot offer you admission until your result is on CAPS.
  4. Apply to SUN: fill the online form linked on the SUN admissions page, or collect a paper form on campus or at one of the listed parishes and Spiritan institutions.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on the SUN website (for example 0703 986 5805 or 0803 667 3144) and ask whether Banking and Finance candidates write a test or attend an interview, and when.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: SUN has not published its current acceptance fee. A 2022 blog put it at N20,000, non-refundable, but treat that as old. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, then bring your originals for clearance.

Warning

JAMB treats any admission that does not pass through CAPS as illegal. Ignore anyone who offers a guaranteed place at SUN for a fee, pay nothing until you see the offer on your CAPS page, and get payment details only from the university’s official website or admissions office.

Studying Banking and Finance at Spiritan University

Banking and Finance covers how money moves through an economy: how banks take deposits and lend, how companies raise capital, how investments are valued and how regulators keep the system stable. At SUN it sits in the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences. A B.Sc. in Nigeria normally takes four years, or three through Direct Entry; SUN’s pages do not give a separate duration.

Is Banking and Finance at SUN accredited?

Banking and Finance was one of the ten programmes SUN presented for its first NUC accreditation. According to SUN’s own news post, ten NUC panels visited from 19 to 29 January 2022, in what the commission called its October/November 2021 edition. The other nine were Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, English, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology and Physics.

Myschool reported on 9 May 2022 that seven of the ten earned full accreditation and three got interim status, but neither Myschool nor SUN said which three. The NUC’s consolidated accreditation results, published in September 2026, should show the current status, but I could not read SUN’s section of that document. So the current status of this programme is not confirmed. Before you accept an offer, ask the department for its NUC accreditation letter and the year it expires.

What you will study

SUN has not published its course outline. Banking and Finance programmes in Nigeria usually include:

  • Principles of finance, money and banking, and monetary economics
  • Financial accounting, cost accounting and business mathematics
  • Bank lending, credit analysis and bank management
  • Corporate finance, investment analysis and portfolio management
  • Financial markets, insurance and risk management
  • Banking law, central bank regulation, research methods and a final-year project

Careers

Graduates work in commercial and microfinance banks, fintech companies, insurance firms, pension and asset managers, stockbroking houses and the finance units of companies and government agencies. Many later take the professional exams of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) or ICAN; ask those bodies what exemptions a SUN degree earns.

Mistakes Banking and Finance applicants make

  • Leaving Mathematics out of the UTME: JAMB requires it for this course.
  • Missing an Economics credit: JAMB names it in the O’level line.
  • Relying on a pass in Mathematics: you need a credit, under both JAMB’s line and SUN’s rule.
  • Using three sittings: SUN accepts not more than two.
  • Assuming an ND or professional certificate is enough without asking SUN: the brochure allows it, but SUN has published nothing on Direct Entry.
