The Spiritan University Biology cut off mark 2027 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) does not publish a separate figure for Biology; its admissions page asks for at least the national cut-off, and JAMB’s minimum for universities is 150 for 2026/2027. In 2024/2025 SUN asked for 140.
2027/2028 update: SUN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Biology sits in SUN’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences with Biochemistry, Microbiology and Chemistry. Biochemistry and Microbiology were among the programmes the NUC visited in 2022; Biology was not, and I found no accreditation result for it, and that is worth checking before you accept. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the subjects and O’level, Direct Entry, screening, the CAPS steps and what the degree covers.
Spiritan University Biology cut-off mark: the official position
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities (2026/2027) | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| SUN general requirement | At least the national cut-off | SUN admissions page |
| SUN cut-off for Biology | Not published separately | No course-level figure on any official page |
| Course name on JAMB’s SUN list | Biology | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics (Mathematics is a must at SUN) | JAMB brochure; SUN admissions page |
| NUC accreditation | Not confirmed | Not among the ten programmes visited in January 2022 |
Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans). Its campus is on the Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road at Nneato-Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, and it was licensed on 6 December 2017. Its admissions page now carries the headline “2026/2027 Admission in Progress”.
Spiritan University Biology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities; SUN asks for at least the national cut-off | Official: JAMB 2026 policy meeting (NAN, 11 May 2026) and SUN admissions page |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting (reported by Channels TV, 8 July 2025) |
| 2024/2025 | 140 | SUN’s minimum for every course except Law (Law was 200) | Official: SUN news post, 23 July 2024 |
| 2022/2023 | 140 | Score from which candidates were invited to choose SUN | Unofficial: SchoolNGR, 19 September 2022 |
SUN’s figure has followed the national floor, 140 in 2024/2025 and the national 150 since. The admissions page still mentions the 2025/2026 UTME in one line under a 2026/2027 headline, which looks like carried-over wording; for 2026/2027 the national minimum is 150. SUN is not in News Central’s full list of cut-offs declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting.
Safe target score for Biology at SUN (my advice)
These bands are my judgement, not SUN policy. Biology at a young private university rarely fills on UTME score alone; incomplete science credits knock out more applicants than low scores do.
| Your UTME score | My read for SUN Biology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any SUN degree course this cycle |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; complete science credits matter most |
| 160 to 179 | Good chance |
| 180 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 160 or more, with credits in all of English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for Spiritan University Biology
| Requirement | What applies | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Course name to select on JAMB | Biology (Spiritan University) | JAMB course list for SUN, Myschool reprint |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure, Myschool reprint |
| O’level (JAMB) | Five credits including English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics | JAMB brochure, Myschool reprint |
| O’level (SUN’s own rule) | At least five credits in WASC, SSCE or NECO, in not more than two sittings, including English Language and Mathematics plus the subjects your course needs | SUN admissions page |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany or Zoology; NCE at merit is accepted | JAMB brochure, Myschool reprint |
| Spiritan remark in the brochure | None. The brochure entry has no remark that names SUN | Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026 |
Register Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Mathematics is allowed in place of Physics, but Physics keeps Biochemistry and Microbiology open as alternatives at most universities. Use the JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus to plan your revision.
JAMB’s O’level line lets you offer Mathematics or Physics. SUN’s own rule removes that choice for Mathematics, because it asks for credits in English and Mathematics for every course. In practice your five credits should be English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, in not more than two sittings.
Direct Entry into Biology at SUN
JAMB’s brochure accepts two A-level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany or Zoology, and it also accepts an NCE at merit, which suits teachers with an NCE in Biology who want a degree. SUN’s admissions page says nothing about Direct Entry, so confirm with the admissions office in writing before you apply.
How Spiritan University admits Biology candidates
SUN’s admissions page tells candidates to make Spiritan University their choice on the JAMB form, and it adds that candidates who did not do so can still apply. You apply either through the online form linked from that page or with a paper form. The page lists 13 places where paper forms are available, including the campus, several Catholic parishes, and Spiritan institutions in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Abuja, Lagos, Edo and Delta.
The page does not describe a post-UTME test, a screening date or a form price, and none of the SUN pages I checked on 29 October 2026 gives an aggregate formula. A 2022 blog said SUN screened candidates after the UTME. So treat a short test or an interview as possible, and call the admissions lines before you travel.
If SUN was not on your JAMB registration, your offer still has to come through CAPS, so you will need a JAMB change of institution to Spiritan University before admission closes. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities such as SUN.
Documents to have ready
SUN’s 2021/2022 notice, reprinted by Myschool, asked screening candidates for these. Bring them unless the current notice says otherwise:
- Your original JAMB result slip with your photograph
- Proof of your JAMB subject combination for Biology
- Your O’level result (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), with the scratch card or online printout if you have it
- Your printout of the change of institution, if SUN was not your original choice
Worked example (illustrative only)
SUN publishes no aggregate formula, so the example checks each candidate against the rules and my target. If SUN sets a test, a 50:50 method (UTME divided by 8, plus half the test percentage) is common elsewhere; I use it only as an illustration.
- Kelechi: UTME 158 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics in one sitting. He is eligible and well placed.
- Amara: UTME 170 in English, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics, with Physics at C6 and Mathematics at D7. JAMB’s line would accept Physics in place of Mathematics, but SUN asks for a Mathematics credit. She should resit Mathematics.
- Obinna: UTME 151. If a test is set and he scores 70%, his illustrative aggregate is 151 divided by 8 (18.875) plus 35, which is 53.875.
If Kelechi wrote the same test and scored 50%, his illustrative aggregate would be 158 divided by 8 (19.75) plus 25, which is 44.75, behind Obinna despite seven more UTME marks. If SUN sets a test, revise for it.
How to apply for Biology at Spiritan University, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Spiritan University and “Biology”, with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to SUN.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. SUN cannot offer you admission until your result is on CAPS.
- Apply to SUN: fill the online form linked on the SUN admissions page, or collect a paper form on campus or at one of the listed parishes and Spiritan institutions.
- Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on the SUN website (for example 0703 986 5805 or 0803 667 3144) and ask whether Biology candidates write a test or attend an interview, and when.
- Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: SUN has not published its current acceptance fee. A 2022 blog put it at N20,000, non-refundable, but treat that as old. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, then bring your originals for clearance.
Warning
JAMB treats any admission that does not pass through CAPS as illegal. Ignore anyone who offers a guaranteed place at SUN for a fee, pay nothing until you see the offer on your CAPS page, and get payment details only from the university’s official website or admissions office.
Studying Biology at Spiritan University
Biology is the study of living things, from cells and genes to whole plants, animals and ecosystems. SUN lists it as B.Sc. Biology in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. A B.Sc. usually takes four years, or three through Direct Entry; SUN does not state a separate duration.
Is Biology at SUN accredited?
Biology is not confirmed as accredited. It was not one of the ten programmes the NUC visited at SUN from 19 to 29 January 2022 (Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, English, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology and Physics), and I found no later NUC report that names SUN and Biology.
That is common for a young university: the NUC usually visits a programme when its first set of students is near final year, so a later course can run for some years before its first visit. It still matters for your certificate and for NYSC mobilisation. Before you accept an offer, ask the department when the NUC last visited and what result it gave, and ask to see the letter.
What you will study
SUN has not published its Biology outline. B.Sc. Biology programmes in Nigeria usually cover:
- Cell biology, genetics and evolution
- Plant biology (botany) and animal biology (zoology)
- Ecology, environmental biology and field work
- Introductory microbiology, physiology and biochemistry
- Biostatistics, laboratory techniques and a final-year project
Careers
Biology graduates teach (after a postgraduate diploma in education and TRCN registration), work in research and hospital laboratories as scientific officers, in environmental and conservation agencies, in agriculture and fisheries, and in pharmaceutical and food companies. A master’s in genetics, ecology or public health opens more doors.
One caution: SUN’s admissions page also lists health programmes such as Nursing Science, Medical Laboratory Science, Human Anatomy, Physiology and Public Health, but none of them is on JAMB’s course list for SUN in Myschool’s reprint. If you are taking Biology hoping to move into one of them, ask SUN whether they are open to UTME candidates before you plan on it.

Mistakes Biology applicants make
- Offering Physics instead of Mathematics at O’level: JAMB allows it, SUN’s rule does not.
- Registering Mathematics instead of Physics in the UTME without a reason: it narrows your fallback options.
- Assuming the course is accredited because it is advertised: ask for the NUC letter.
- Using three sittings: SUN accepts not more than two.
- Skipping the change of institution after buying a SUN form.

Can I use NCE for Direct Entry into Biology at Spiritan University? JAMB’s brochure accepts an NCE at merit for Biology. SUN has published no Direct Entry rules, so get its confirmation in writing first.
Sources and updates
The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry “Biology”, which carries no remark for SUN. The exact course name and SUN’s 17-course JAMB list are from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s course list for Spiritan University. The five-credit, two-sitting rule, the instruction to score at least the national cut-off, the online and paper application routes and the programme list are from the SUN admissions page (checked 29 October 2026). The 2024/2025 minimum of 140 (200 for Law) is from SUN’s news post “2024/2025 University Admission Ongoing” (23 July 2024). SUN’s news post of 11 February 2022 lists the ten programmes the NUC visited in January 2022, and Biology and Chemistry are not among them; Myschool’s report of 9 May 2022 gives the overall result. The national minimum of 150, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the four-week CAPS window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 figure is from Channels TV (8 July 2025). The 2022 figures and the N20,000 acceptance fee are from SchoolNGR (19 September 2022) and are not official.
