Spiritan University Political Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Spiritan University, Nneochi asks Political Science candidates for at least the national cut-off of 150. See the JAMB subject combination, SUN’s Mathematics credit rule, Direct Entry, screening, CAPS steps and accreditation status.

The Spiritan University Political Science cut off mark 2027 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME. Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) has not published a separate figure for Political Science. Its admissions page asks for at least the national cut-off, and JAMB’s national minimum for universities is 150 for the 2026/2027 session. In 2024/2025 SUN asked for 140.

2027/2028 update: SUN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Clearing 150 is only part of it. The detail that trips up Political Science candidates at SUN is Mathematics: JAMB’s brochure asks for only a pass, but SUN’s own page wants a credit. Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the UTME and O’level rules, Direct Entry, what is known about screening, the CAPS steps and what the degree covers.

Spiritan University, Nneochi (SUN) is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans). Its campus is on the Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road at Nneato-Isuochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area of Abia State, and it was licensed on 6 December 2017. Its admissions page now carries the headline “2026/2027 Admission in Progress”.

SUN moved with the national floor: 140 in 2024/2025, and the national figure, now 150, since then. One line on the admissions page still mentions the 2025/2026 UTME even though the headline says 2026/2027, so the wording looks carried over. I read it as the national minimum for whichever UTME you are using, which for 2026/2027 is 150. SUN does not appear in News Central’s full list of cut-offs that institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so no other figure exists.

Safe target score for Political Science at SUN (my advice)

These bands are my own reading, not a SUN rule. SUN is a small private university, and Political Science does not draw the crowds it draws at federal universities, so a score in the 150s can get you in if the rest of your file is complete.

Your UTME scoreMy read for SUN Political Science
Below 150Not eligible for any SUN degree course this cycle
150 to 159Eligible; complete O’level credits and an early application matter most
160 to 179Good chance
180 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 160 or more. That leaves room if SUN sets a screening test, and it also clears the bar at most state universities if you need a fallback.

Register Use of English, Government, Economics and one of Literature in English, History or CRS. Government is the subject the course leans on most, and Economics keeps Economics and History and Diplomatic Studies open if you change course later.

The Mathematics point deserves a second look. JAMB’s brochure entry for Political Science asks for a pass in Mathematics, which is generous. SUN’s admissions page asks for credits in English and Mathematics for every programme. If you have a D7 or E8 in Mathematics, SUN may turn you down even though the brochure would allow it, so sit WAEC or NECO again if you can, within the two-sitting limit.

Direct Entry into Political Science at SUN

JAMB’s brochure lists one Direct Entry route for Political Science: two A-level passes including Government or History, on top of the O’level credits. It shows no NCE or ND line. SUN’s admissions page does not mention Direct Entry at all, so if you hold an NCE in Political Science or Social Studies, or a diploma, ask the admissions office in writing whether it accepts you before you buy a form.

Direct Entry students in Nigeria usually start at 200 level and finish a four-year B.Sc. in three years.

How Spiritan University admits Political Science candidates

SUN’s admissions page tells candidates to make Spiritan University their choice on the JAMB form, and it adds that candidates who did not do so can still apply. You apply either through the online form linked from that page or with a paper form. The page lists 13 places where paper forms are available, including the campus, several Catholic parishes, and Spiritan institutions in Enugu, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Abuja, Lagos, Edo and Delta.

The page does not describe a post-UTME test, a screening date or a form price, and none of the SUN pages I checked on 29 October 2026 gives an aggregate formula. A 2022 blog said SUN screened candidates after the UTME. So treat a short test or an interview as possible, and call the admissions lines before you travel.

If SUN was not on your JAMB registration, your offer still has to come through CAPS, so you will need a JAMB change of institution to Spiritan University before admission closes. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities such as SUN.

Documents to have ready

SUN’s 2021/2022 notice, reprinted by Myschool, asked screening candidates for these. Bring them unless the current notice says otherwise:

  • Your original JAMB result slip with your photograph
  • Proof of your JAMB subject combination for Political Science
  • Your O’level result (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB), with the scratch card or online printout if you have it
  • Your printout of the change of institution, if SUN was not your original choice

Worked example (illustrative only)

SUN publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks each candidate against the rules above and my target. If SUN does set a test, many Nigerian universities combine UTME and test on a 50:50 basis (UTME divided by 8, plus half the test percentage); that method is my illustration, not SUN’s.

  1. Ngozi: UTME 163 in English, Government, Economics and Literature. Credits in English, Mathematics, Government, Economics and Literature in one sitting. She meets every rule and sits above my target.
  2. Emeka: UTME 171, but Mathematics is D7. JAMB’s brochure would accept it; SUN’s credit rule may not. He should resit Mathematics before relying on SUN.
  3. Ifeoma: UTME 152 with History in place of Government and strong credits. She is eligible. If a test is set and she scores 60%, her illustrative aggregate is 152 divided by 8 (19) plus 30, which is 49.

Emeka has the best UTME score of the three and the weakest application. At a university that uses the national floor, your O’level sheet often matters more than ten extra UTME marks.

How to apply for Political Science at Spiritan University, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Spiritan University and “Political Science”, with Use of English, Government, Economics and Literature in English or History. If you already registered elsewhere, do a JAMB change of institution to SUN.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. SUN cannot offer you admission until your result is on CAPS.
  4. Apply to SUN: fill the online form linked on the SUN admissions page, or collect a paper form on campus or at one of the listed parishes and Spiritan institutions.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on the SUN website (for example 0703 986 5805 or 0803 667 3144) and ask whether Political Science candidates write a test or attend an interview, and when.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: SUN has not published its current acceptance fee. A 2022 blog put it at N20,000, non-refundable, but treat that as old. Pay only through channels the university gives you in writing, then bring your originals for clearance.

Warning

JAMB treats any admission that does not pass through CAPS as illegal. Ignore anyone who offers a guaranteed place at SUN for a fee, pay nothing until you see the offer on your CAPS page, and get payment details only from the university’s official website or admissions office.

Studying Political Science at Spiritan University

Political Science is the study of power: how states are run, how governments are chosen and held to account, and how countries deal with one another. At SUN it sits in the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences. A B.Sc. in Nigeria normally takes four years, or three through Direct Entry; SUN’s pages do not state the duration separately.

Is Political Science at SUN accredited?

Political Science was one of the ten programmes SUN presented for its first NUC accreditation. According to SUN’s own news post, ten NUC panels visited from 19 to 29 January 2022, in what the commission called its October/November 2021 edition. The other nine were Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, English, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology and Physics.

Myschool reported on 9 May 2022 that seven of the ten earned full accreditation and three got interim status, but neither Myschool nor SUN said which three. The NUC’s consolidated accreditation results, published in September 2026, should show the current status, but I could not read SUN’s section of that document. So the current status of this programme is not confirmed. Before you accept an offer, ask the department for its NUC accreditation letter and the year it expires.

What you will study

SUN has not put its Political Science outline online. Programmes built on the NUC’s core curriculum usually include:

  • Political theory and the history of political thought
  • Nigerian government and politics, federalism and local government
  • Public administration and public policy
  • International relations, foreign policy and international organisations
  • Comparative politics, elections and party systems
  • Research methods, statistics for social sciences and a final-year project

Careers

Graduates go into the civil service at federal, state and local level, the electoral commission and other agencies, NGOs and civil society groups, journalism and political communication, and party and campaign work. Some take the foreign service route after further exams, and many go on to a master’s in international relations, public administration or conflict studies.

Mistakes Political Science applicants make

  • Dropping Government or History from the UTME combination: JAMB names one of them for this course.
  • Relying on a pass in Mathematics: SUN’s own page asks for a credit.
  • Using three sittings: SUN accepts not more than two.
  • Skipping the change of institution: a SUN paper form alone does not move your JAMB record.
  • Not asking for the accreditation letter: the 2022 result named no programme as interim.

Writing the UTME next year? Read when JAMB 2027 registration starts. If you already have a score, see what to do with your JAMB result, and our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch courses if your score suits another SUN programme better.

Spiritan University Political Science cut-off mark: frequently asked questions

What is Spiritan University cut-off mark for Political Science? SUN asks for at least the national cut-off, which is 150 for 2026/2027, and it has no separate Political Science figure. I would aim for 160 or more.

Is Mathematics compulsory for Political Science at Spiritan University? Not in the UTME. For O’level, JAMB’s brochure asks only for a pass, but SUN’s admissions page asks for a credit in Mathematics for every programme, so plan on a credit.

Can I get into Spiritan University if I did not choose it in JAMB? Yes. SUN says such candidates can still apply, but your offer must come through CAPS, so complete a JAMB change of institution to Spiritan University.

Does Spiritan University write post-UTME for Political Science? SUN’s admissions page does not describe a test or give a date. A 2022 blog said it screened candidates, so call the admissions office before you travel.
