UT Arlington Admission Requirements for International Students 2027: Acceptance Rate, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadline

UT Arlington Admission Requirements for International Students 2027: Acceptance Rate, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadline
UT Arlington admits about 80% of first-year applicants and gives international freshmen merit awards of $1,000 to $13,000, with resident tuition for awards of $8,000 or more. Here are the English scores, costs, scholarships and fall 2027 deadline.

UT Arlington admission requirements for international students are simple compared with most American universities: a completed application, a $75 fee, your secondary school transcripts, and proof of English such as TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5 or Duolingo 100. SAT and ACT scores are optional for first-year applicants, and students from countries on UTA’s English-speaking list, which includes Nigeria, can be exempt from the English test. About four in five applicants get in.

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is a large public research university between Dallas and Fort Worth. It does not offer full scholarships, but its merit awards for 2026-27 go up to $13,000 a year, and the bigger awards let international students pay the Texas resident tuition rate. For fall 2027 entry, the freshman priority deadline is 1 June 2027, though you should apply months earlier to be considered for scholarships and to leave time for your I-20 and visa. Everything below was checked on UTA’s own pages on 29 October 2026.

UT Arlington ranking and size

UTA is listed at #222 in National Universities in the U.S. News Best Colleges 2026-27 edition. In the previous U.S. News edition (2026, published September 2025), UTA itself reported a rank of No. 122 among public universities and No. 42 for social mobility. For most international applicants, the price, the scholarship waiver and the Dallas-Fort Worth job market weigh more than the rank.

UT Arlington acceptance rate and class profile

UTA does not post a public Common Data Set, so the admission figures come from the federal IPEDS data reported through CollegeData for the 2024-25 year. UTA received 24,623 first-year applications for fall 2024 and admitted 19,675, an acceptance rate of 80%. The rate has been steady: federal data put it at 81.3% for fall 2023 and 80.8% for fall 2022.

UTA’s catalog sets guaranteed admission rules. You are admitted automatically with an unweighted GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale, or if you rank in the top quarter of your class. Lower class ranks need SAT or ACT scores (for example, second quarter with SAT 1130 or ACT 23 plus advanced credits). Everyone else gets an individual review that includes a personal statement. International students cannot be admitted conditionally, so your English proof has to be in place.

UT Arlington tuition for international students

International undergraduates pay the non-resident rate unless they win a scholarship big enough to trigger the resident-rate waiver. UTA’s Student Accounts office has posted its 2026-27 tuition charts, but the figures on them could not be read when we checked, so the table uses the 2025-26 non-resident charges, which are the latest confirmed numbers.

Undergraduate non-resident tuition and mandatory fees (2025-26)Per semesterPer year (two semesters)
12 credit hours$13,294$26,588
15 credit hours$14,509$29,018

Living costs come on top. UTA’s latest published budget (2024-25) gives the following for a non-resident student, so treat these as a floor for 2026-27:

Cost item (UTA budget, 2024-25)On campusOff campus
Tuition and fees (non-resident)$27,494$27,494
Housing and meals$11,228$13,092
Books and supplies$1,000$1,000
Transportation$3,280$3,280
Personal and miscellaneous$2,104$2,104
Total$45,106$46,970

For the I-20, UTA uses its own Undergraduate Financial Statement form, and the amount you must show is set on the form for each year. Download the 2026-27 or 2027-28 version from UTA’s admissions forms page rather than relying on a figure from an agent.

UT Arlington scholarships for international students

UTA has no need-based aid for international students and no CSS Profile. It does not use the ISFAA or any separate aid form for first-years either: the Scholarship Committee reviews every incoming freshman’s admission file automatically, looking at GPA, test scores and the difficulty of your courses. For 2026-27 the freshman merit awards are:

Freshman merit award (2026-27)Amount per yearExtra benefit for international students
Presidential Honors$13,000Non-resident tuition waiver (you pay the Texas resident rate)
Presidential$10,000Non-resident tuition waiver
Maverick Academic (top tier)$8,000Non-resident tuition waiver
Maverick Academic$4,000International grant of up to $10,000
Maverick Academic$2,000International grant of up to $8,000
Maverick Academic$1,000International grant of up to $5,000

The waiver is worth more than the award itself. At 2025-26 rates, the gap between non-resident and resident tuition was more than $15,000 a year, so an $8,000 award plus the waiver is worth far more than $8,000. The grants for lower tiers are paid in fall and spring only. UTA says neither the waiver nor the grants are guaranteed and both depend on funding. The Maverick Academic Scholarship can be renewed for up to three more years if you keep the renewal conditions.

After you are admitted, you can also apply through Mav ScholarShop, where UTA says most scholarships are open to students of any residency. Test scores are optional, but UTA strongly encourages them and only uses a score if it raises your award, so a good SAT can only help.

UT Arlington admission requirements for international students: what to submit

  1. Online application: UTA’s catalog names the Common App for international applicants. Pick one platform and submit once.
  2. Application fee: $75, non-refundable.
  3. Transcripts: secondary school records equivalent to US high school graduation. UTA wants them attested by your school; notarized copies are not used. Anything not in English needs a complete official translation.
  4. English proof: TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo sent directly by the testing agency, unless you are exempt (see below).
  5. SAT or ACT: optional, but useful for guaranteed admission routes and scholarships.
  6. Personal statement: needed if you are reviewed individually rather than admitted on GPA or class rank.

English requirements

TestUTA minimum
TOEFL iBT (before 21 January 2026)79
TOEFL iBT (new 1 to 6 scale)4
IELTS Academic6.5 overall
Duolingo English Test100 (105 for engineering majors)
SAT Reading and Writing / ACT English (waiver route)480 / 19

UTA does not use student copies of score reports. Its catalog also lists countries whose applicants are exempt, including Nigeria, India, the Philippines, South Africa and Canada (outside Quebec), and it waives the test for students who studied an English-based IB, AP, American or British curriculum. Check the current list on UTA’s admissions site before you skip the test.

UT Arlington deadlines for fall 2027

TermFreshman priority deadline
Spring 20271 December 2026
Summer 20271 April 2027
Fall 20271 June 2027

UTA has no Early Decision or Early Action round. It reads applications as they arrive and accepts completed files after the priority date on a limited basis. Its admissions FAQ warns that scholarship and aid deadlines come before the admission deadline, and the merit pool is limited, so I would apply between October and January for a fall start.

Do not wait for 1 June

Scholarship funds and visa slots run out well before 1 June 2027. A June admit has very little time to get an I-20, pay the SEVIS fee and book a visa interview before August.

How to write the UTA personal statement

UTA has no college-specific supplemental essays. The only writing that counts is the personal statement used in individual review, and the scholarship committee also sees your full file. If your GPA falls below the guaranteed line, or your school does not rank students (common in many African, Asian and Latin American systems), this statement may decide your admission.

  • Explain your grading system: a reader in Texas may not know that 65% is a strong mark in your country, so add one sentence on the scale.
  • Name your major and why UTA: mention a real programme, lab or the Dallas-Fort Worth job market, not “a world-class education”.
  • Show one thing you built or fixed: such as a project, a small business or a family responsibility, described in concrete detail.
  • Address a weak spot briefly: a bad term, a gap year or a missing test, in two or three sentences.

A sample opening, for illustration only: “In my school in Kumasi, a 70 in further mathematics put me second in a class of 64, and I spent the term after that teaching four classmates the same topics on Saturday mornings.” It sets the grading context, shows ability and points toward the rest of the story.

What happens after you apply to UTA

  1. Accept your offer: in MyMav, open the Admissions tile, choose Application Status and click Accept.
  2. Request the I-20: complete the Undergraduate Financial Statement with your bank evidence. UTA sends the I-20 to your UTA email.
  3. Apply for housing: the housing application is free, and rooms go first come, first served.
  4. Clear the TSI: check your Texas Success Initiative status in MyMav before advising and orientation.
  5. Finish the international pre-orientation course: you must score 10 out of 10 on the final quiz in Canvas to remove your registration hold.
  6. Advising and New Maverick Orientation: complete the self-guided advising course, then attend orientation, which is required.
  7. Health requirements: meningitis vaccine proof if you are under 22, at least 10 days before classes, and a TB blood test (T-Spot or QuantiFERON) done in the US. Skin tests are not accepted.
  8. Final transcript: your official certificate with graduation date must reach UTA by the 12th class day.

Common mistakes international applicants make

  • Applying in May: you may still be admitted, but scholarship funds and housing will be thinner.
  • Skipping the SAT when you could do well: UTA only counts a score that improves your award, so there is no downside.
  • Sending notarized photocopies: UTA wants school-attested transcripts.
  • Forwarding your own score report: TOEFL, IELTS and Duolingo must come straight from the test provider.
  • Doing the TB skin test at home: UTA accepts only US-done blood tests.
  • Budgeting with the scholarship but not the waiver rules: the waiver comes only with awards of $8,000 or more; lower tiers get a fixed grant instead.

Costs that scholarships do not cover

  • Health insurance: F-1 students at UT schools are enrolled automatically in UT-SHIP unless they prove a compliant private plan.
  • Visa costs: the SEVIS I-901 fee and the US visa application fee, paid before your interview.
  • Flights and arrival: including bedding, a phone plan and transport in a city where a car helps.
  • Medical tests on arrival: the TB blood test and any missing vaccines.
  • Summer: grants are paid for fall and spring only, so summer housing and food are on you.

Majors, campus and city

UTA is a doctoral research university in the UT System with colleges of engineering, business, nursing and health innovation, science, architecture and liberal arts, among others. Engineering and computer science draw many international students, which is why UTA sets a higher Duolingo score for engineering majors. The campus sits in Arlington, a city between Dallas and Fort Worth, so internships and part-time campus jobs sit inside one of the largest metro economies in the US. Expect hot summers and a place where public transport is limited.

Graduate admissions at UTA

Master’s and PhD applicants apply to a specific programme through UTA’s Graduate School, and each department sets its own deadlines, test rules and English minimums. Graduate funding comes mainly from assistantships and departmental scholarships, not from the freshman merit grid above. If you are aiming for a master’s in the US, compare UTA’s programmes with our guide to the best American scholarships for international students.

Who should apply to UT Arlington

UTA suits a student with solid grades who wants an engineering, computing, business or nursing degree at a moderate price, and whose family can cover the gap after a merit award. If your GPA is 3.25 or higher, or your school ranks you in the top quarter, admission is close to certain, and the scholarship becomes the main question. I would sit the SAT once, because a strong score is the easiest way to move from a $4,000 grant tier into the $8,000 waiver tier.

UTA is a poor fit if you need a full scholarship. It does not offer one, and the merit grid leaves most international students paying a five-figure sum each year. In that case, look at need-based schools such as those in our Amherst College financial aid guide.
