The Japan Youth Summit Autumn 2026 edition ran in Osaka from 19 to 22 October 2026 and is now over. It was the fourth edition of the summit, a four-day youth conference and project competition run by the Youth Break the Boundaries (YBB) Foundation, which is registered in Indonesia. The next edition, the Japan Youth Summit 5th, takes place in Osaka from 10 to 13 May 2027. Registration opened on 5 October 2026, and the fully funded track closes on 20 December 2026.
Listings that call the summit fully funded leave out the costs. Every applicant pays a registration fee (USD 10 or USD 15), self-funded delegates pay a programme fee in instalments, and nobody’s international flight or visa is covered. A limited number of fully funded places cover the programme fee only. Below is what the autumn 2026 edition offered, the 2027 dates, what each track costs, and how to register.
Japan Youth Summit Autumn 2026: what the edition offered
The autumn 2026 edition was held in Osaka on 19 to 22 October 2026 under the theme “Beyond Limits: Youth Leading the Next Era of Innovation and Global Stability”. It linked its programme to the Sustainable Development Goals on education, economic growth, innovation and sustainable communities, and had two parts:
- Innovation and Technology Project Competition: delegates worked in multicultural teams to design and present a project with a global impact.
- Capacity building: leadership workshops, group discussions and project-based sessions.
If a page still tells you to apply for the autumn 2026 summit, it is out of date. Some of those pages call it “all expenses paid” and, a few lines later, mention a registration fee and a programme fee that selected delegates got reimbursed. One listing gives 31 May 2026 as the autumn deadline; whatever the exact date was, it has passed.
Japan Youth Summit 2027 dates and deadlines
The organiser’s website now lists the 5th edition as its current programme, under the theme “Youth Innovation for a World Without Limits” and focused on SDGs 4, 9, 11, 12 and 13. These are the published dates, in Western Indonesia Time (WIB, GMT+7):
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| Registration opened (both tracks) | 5 October 2026 |
| Fully funded registration closes | 20 December 2026 |
| Second instalment window | 25 to 31 December 2026 |
| Invitation letters (LoA), three batches | 5 February to 9 March 2027 |
| First instalment due | By 10 February 2027 |
| Fully funded interview notices | 16 to 25 February 2027 |
| Fully funded interviews | 21 February to 9 May 2027 |
| Mentoring session | 1 to 5 March 2027 |
| Self-funded registration closes | 10 April 2027 |
| Summit in Osaka | 10 to 13 May 2027 |
| Final fully funded announcement | 10 to 13 May 2027 |
Some of these overlap oddly (the second instalment window comes before the first instalment deadline), and the site still carries a few leftover 2026 dates. Use the guidelines PDF on the official site as the final word.
Is the Japan Youth Summit fully funded?
Only in a narrow sense. The official site says a selected fully funded delegate has the programme fee covered and pays only the registration fee. Flights to Japan and the visa stay your own cost on both tracks.
| What you compare | Self-funded | Fully funded |
|---|---|---|
| Registration fee | USD 15 (IDR 282,000) | USD 10 (IDR 188,000) |
| Programme fee | Paid in scheduled instalments | Covered if you are selected |
| Selection | None; participation is guaranteed | Competitive: essays, then interview |
| Extra benefits listed | Faster processing, mentorship | Funded activities, mentorship, possible panel moderator role |
| International flight and visa | Not covered | Not covered |
| Registration window | 5 Oct 2026 to 10 Apr 2027 | 5 Oct to 20 Dec 2026 |
The programme fee amount is not printed on the website; it is in the guidelines PDF. Download it and check the total in your own currency before you pay anything. The site says declined self-funded applicants get a full refund under its refund policy.
Read the fully funded rules closely. A listing for the 2026 edition described a reimbursement model: you pay programme fee instalments as they fall due and get them back if you are selected. The 2027 interviews run until 9 May 2027, after the first instalment is due, so you may be paying before you know your result. Ask YBB whether that still applies before you commit.
What delegates do during the 2027 summit
- 10 May: airport assistance at Kansai International Airport in the afternoon, then registration and hotel check-in.
- 11 May: city tours and university visits, with breakfast at the hotel and a bento dinner.
- 12 May: cultural project presentations, an international symposium, and the awards and closing ceremony.
- 13 May: certificate collection, hotel check-out and airport transfer.
Because the published itinerary includes hotel breakfasts, bento dinners and airport transfers, those look like part of the programme package, but check the guidelines for exactly which meals and nights are included. Awards listed for 2027 include Best Project, Best Group, Best Leader, Best Participant, Most Active Group, Best Presenter, Best National Costume and Best Content Creator.
Who can apply for the Japan Youth Summit 2027?
- Age: 15 to 40, according to listings for the 2026 and 2027 editions. The website leaves the exact rule to the guidelines.
- Nationality: any country.
- Education: no degree or GPA requirement. Secondary school students, university students and young professionals can all register.
- Language: the summit runs in English, and no IELTS or TOEFL score is asked for.
- Conduct: no criminal record and no links to extremist groups.
If you are under 18, expect to need parental consent for travel and for the visa. Citizens of many countries need a visa for a short stay in Japan, and the invitation letter is the document to take to the embassy.
How to register for the Japan Youth Summit
- Read the guidelines: download the English PDF from japanyouthsummit.com and note the programme fee and refund policy.
- Pick a track: fully funded if you want the programme fee covered and can write the essays before 20 December 2026; self-funded if you want a guaranteed place.
- Fill in the registration form: personal details and a valid passport, which you will need for the visa anyway.
- Pay the registration fee: USD 10 or USD 15, through the official site only.
- Submit essays (fully funded only): then wait for the interview notice, listed for 16 to 25 February 2027.
- Get your invitation letter: letters go out from 5 February to 9 March 2027. Start the visa application as soon as you have it.
Pay only the organiser
Register and pay only through japanyouthsummit.com and the contacts it lists (the official WhatsApp is +62 851-7338-6622). Do not pay an agent or a contact you cannot find on the official site.
Is the Japan Youth Summit worth the cost?
It is a short conference with a project competition, visits and sightseeing, and it gives you a certificate and an international network. It is not an academic exchange or a scholarship. Before you commit, add up the registration fee, the programme fee, a return flight to Osaka and the visa. If money is tight, I would apply for the fully funded track only and step back if not selected, provided the guidelines let you do that without losing what you have paid.
If your aim is to study in Japan, the funded routes are degree scholarships: start with our Japan scholarships guide. If you want another YBB event sooner, the Istanbul Youth Summit runs in January 2027.

Sources and updates
The 2027 dates, fees, track rules, refund note, itinerary, awards and WhatsApp contact come from the organiser’s site, japanyouthsummit.com, and its programmes page. The autumn 2026 dates, theme, edition number and programme parts come from the University of Jember international office’s announcement of April 2026. The age range, conduct rules and the 2026 reimbursement model come from third-party listings, because the official site leaves them to the guidelines.
