Wichita State University Admission Requirements for International Students 2027: Acceptance Rate, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadline

Wichita State University Admission Requirements for International Students 2027: Acceptance Rate, Tuition, Scholarships and Deadline
Wichita State admits international students with a 2.5 GPA, needs no English score to apply, and gives a 36% Global Select tuition discount (about $5,500 a year) to students with a 3.0. Costs, English minimums, fees and fall 2027 deadlines.

Wichita State University admission requirements for international students are among the easiest to meet in the US: a secondary school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or SAT 1060 or ACT 21), official transcripts, proof of funds and an application fee. You do not even need an English test to apply. For full-time study you later need TOEFL 72, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 105 or PTE 49, or you can start with Wichita State’s intensive English programme.

Students with a 3.0 GPA or higher receive the Global Select Scholarship automatically: a 36% tuition discount that Wichita State estimates at about $5,500 a year for undergraduates. With it, the published yearly budget falls from about $35,200 to $30,100. For fall 2027 the application deadlines are 15 April, 1 June or 1 July 2027, depending on how fast you pay for processing. Everything below was checked on Wichita State’s pages on 29 October 2026.

Wichita State ranking and reputation

Wichita State’s strongest U.S. News results are at graduate level. In the U.S. News Best Graduate Schools 2026 edition, it placed No. 58 in engineering, No. 67 in speech-language pathology, No. 92 in public affairs and No. 97 in physical therapy. We could not confirm its current position in the U.S. News National Universities list, because the U.S. News page could not be loaded and third-party sites disagree, so we have not printed a number.

The university’s international brochure gives a total of about 17,700 students, including around 2,800 international students from more than 100 countries, and more than 225 majors and specialisations from English language study to PhD.

Wichita State says international admission decisions rest only on academic qualifications. A first-year applicant needs a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale or the international equivalent, or an SAT of 1060 (at least 490 per section) or an ACT of 21 (at least 18 per section). Some colleges set higher continuing GPAs, for example 2.75 to 3.0 in health professions.

Wichita State tuition for international students

The latest published international budget is for 2025-26 (nine months). The university updates it each year, so expect 2026-27 and 2027-28 figures to be somewhat higher.

Undergraduate cost item (2025-26)Amount
Tuition and fees$19,300
Housing and meals$12,400
Books$1,200
Medical insurance$2,300
Total$35,200

Tuition is paid after you arrive and meet your adviser, and it can be split into four interest-free instalments for a $30 fee. Housing varies by hall, room type and meal plan.

Wichita State scholarships for international students

Wichita State says plainly that, as a US public university, it does not offer full scholarships. There is no need-based aid for international students, so no CSS Profile or ISFAA. The main award is the Global Select Scholarship.

  • How to apply: answer the one scholarship question on the international admission application. Eligible students are awarded at the time of admission.
  • Test scores: SAT and ACT are not used for Global Select.
  • What it covers: tuition only, not fees, and only academic classes, not intensive English.
  • Renewal: automatic until the end of your programme. It can be withdrawn if the final transcript used for admission shows a GPA below the minimum, or if your immigration status changes.
  • Who cannot get it: students in the Intensive English Language Center and MBA students.

Wichita State’s August 2025 brochure gave a lower undergraduate estimate of $5,100 a year; the current Global Select page says $5,500. The discount is a percentage, so the dollar value rises with tuition. Departmental scholarships for continuing students are listed through ScholarshipUniverse after you enrol.

Wichita State admission requirements for international students: what to send

  1. International Undergraduate Application: online at wichita.edu/ApplyInternational, including the Global Select question.
  2. Application fee: $75 (Basic, about four to five weeks), $150 (Standard, two to three weeks) or $250 (Premium, three business days). It is non-refundable, there are no waivers, and Wichita State will not consider an application without it.
  3. Transcripts: from every secondary school and every college attended, front and back. Originals or photocopies stamped or signed by a school official, a ministry of education or EducationUSA are accepted. Copies stamped “Issued to student” are not. Translations must be stamped by a qualified translator.
  4. Certification of Financial Support: with evidence such as a bank statement or sponsor letter.

There are no supplemental essays and no recommendation letters for international undergraduates. Wichita State also lists country-by-country transcript rules on its site; check your country’s page before you order documents.

Scores must be under two years old and sent directly by the test provider. Wichita State does not list country exemptions, so applicants from English-speaking countries such as Nigeria, Ghana or Kenya still need one of the routes above. If you have no score, you can be admitted conditionally and take the WSU English Proficiency Examination ($75) or the Intensive English programme after arrival.

Deposit for some countries

Applicants from Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Bangladesh and Fujian, China must pay an enrollment deposit before Wichita State sends the I-20. The amount is not shown on the FAQ page, so ask the international admissions office early and build it into your timeline.

How to answer the Global Select question and present your record

Wichita State has no supplemental essays. What decides your scholarship is your GPA as Wichita State converts it, so your job is to make that conversion easy.

  • Answer the scholarship question: skipping it means you are not considered.
  • Send every year of results: include the grading key printed on the back of the transcript.
  • Use the right stamps: a school official, ministry or EducationUSA stamp makes a photocopy acceptable.
  • Write a short cover note if your system is unusual: for example, explain that a 65% average put you in the top tenth of your class.

A sample opening for such a note, for illustration only: “My school grades on a 100-point scale where 70 and above is a distinction; my final average of 74 ranked me fourth of 120 in the science stream.” It gives the evaluator what they need in one sentence.

What happens after you apply

  1. Review: four to five weeks on Basic service, two to three on Standard, three business days on Premium.
  2. Admission letter and Global Select: the scholarship is decided at admission.
  3. Deposit (if your country needs one) and I-20: then pay the SEVIS fee and book your F-1 visa interview.
  4. Arrival: new international students get free airport pickup; the airport is about 15 minutes from campus.
  5. English placement and advising: students without a qualifying score take the WSU English test, then meet an adviser and pay tuition.
  6. Official records: without official final records you can enrol for one semester only.

Common mistakes international applicants make

  • Applying on Basic service in May: the Basic deadline for fall is 15 April; after that you pay more for faster processing.
  • Expecting a fee waiver: Wichita State does not give them.
  • Sending a transcript marked “Issued to student”: it will be refused.
  • Assuming English-speaking countries are exempt: they are not.
  • Counting on Global Select for intensive English terms: it covers academic classes only.
  • Using an old TOEFL or IELTS: scores older than two years are not accepted.

Costs the scholarship does not cover

  • Fees: Global Select discounts tuition, not student fees.
  • Housing, meals and insurance: about $14,700 together in the 2025-26 budget.
  • Application service fee: up to $250 if you need fast processing.
  • Enrollment deposit: for Nigeria and the other listed countries.
  • Visa, SEVIS fee, flights and summer: a summer session alone adds about $9,700.

Majors, campus and city

Wichita State’s ranked strengths include engineering (No. 58 in the U.S. News graduate list), speech-language pathology, physical therapy and public affairs, and it offers business, health professions and fine arts degrees. Its Innovation Campus hosts more than 20 companies, including Airbus, Textron, NetApp and Deloitte, which gives engineering and business students employers close to class. Students can work on campus up to 20 hours a week (the brochure estimates $600 to $800 a month) and can take major-related co-op jobs off campus after one year.

Wichita is the largest city in Kansas, with a metro population of about 650,000, a low cost of living and around 250 sunny days a year. Summers are hot and winters cold, so budget for winter clothing.

Graduate admissions at Wichita State

Graduate applicants need a related bachelor’s degree and, for most programmes, a GPA of 3.0. The GRE is not required for most programmes. Full-time graduate study needs TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5, Duolingo 115 or PTE 58, with higher scores for the MBA. Graduate Global Select is a 38% tuition discount for students with a 3.3 GPA. For fall 2026 the graduate priority deadline was 1 March and the secondary deadline 30 April. Who should apply to Wichita State

Wichita State suits a student with a GPA of 3.0 or higher who wants engineering, business or health professions at one of the lower prices among US public universities, and who values a fast decision. It is also one of the few universities that will admit you before you have an English score, which helps if you cannot reach a test centre in time.

It is not for students who need a full scholarship; Wichita State says it does not give them. If your GPA is below 3.0, you can still be admitted but will pay the full rate, so I would compare the final cost with UTA or Texas Tech, where a merit award brings resident tuition. Fully funded alternatives are covered in our Amherst College financial aid guide.
