The Rhema University Biochemistry cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for universities for 2026/2027. Rhema University, Aba has not published a separate cut-off for B.Sc. Biochemistry, and it is not on the list of institution-declared cut-offs from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. If you score at least 150, choose Rhema and hold the right five O’level credits, you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Rhema cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Biochemistry studies the chemistry of living things: enzymes, metabolism, hormones and the molecules inside cells. Rhema’s own entry list for this course is worded differently from JAMB’s brochure, and that difference can cost you a place if you misread it. This guide sets out both, then covers a safe target score (my advice), Direct Entry, screening, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the degree leads to.
Rhema University Biochemistry cut-off mark: the official figures
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities (2026/2027) | 150 | JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| Rhema minimum for Biochemistry | Not published | Absent from official pages and the 2026 declared list |
| Departmental merit cut-off | Not published | Rhema does not release last admitted scores |
| Screening for Biochemistry | Not published | The only notice found covered MBBS and Nursing |
| UTME subjects | English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits; see the section below | Rhema admissions page and JAMB brochure |
| Degree | B.Sc. Biochemistry | Rhema admissions page |
Rhema University is at 153 Aba-Owerri Road, Aba, Abia State. Posts naming a “Rhema University, Obeama-Asa, Rivers State” have mixed up the name, so do not rely on them for this school.
Rhema Biochemistry cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official, JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Rhema-declared Biochemistry cut-off | Not published in any source I reached |
An old “Rhema cut-off mark for all courses 2018/2019” list still circulates. It cites no Rhema document, so treat it as unofficial.
Safe target score for Biochemistry at Rhema (my advice)
Biochemistry is a common second choice for candidates who wanted Medicine, Pharmacy or Medical Laboratory Science, so it attracts strong science students. At a private university in Aba, competition is still far lighter than at the large federal schools. These bands are my judgement. Rhema has not published them.
| Your UTME score | My read for Rhema Biochemistry |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Rhema degree course |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; complete O’level and early application matter most |
| 160 to 179 | Reasonable chance |
| 180 to 199 | Good chance |
| 200 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 or more. If Biochemistry is your fallback from Medicine, push higher, because an MBBS place elsewhere needs a much bigger score.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Rhema Biochemistry
The UTME part is clear. JAMB’s brochure for Biochemistry asks for Biology, Chemistry, and either Physics or Mathematics, with Use of English compulsory. There is no Rhema-specific UTME remark.
The O’level part needs care, because the two sources word it differently:
| Source | O’level wording for Biochemistry |
|---|---|
| Rhema admissions page | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing and Geography (seven subjects named for five credits) |
| JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) | Five credits including English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology |
Rhema’s list reads as English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry plus a fifth subject, with Agricultural Science, Technical Drawing or Geography named as options. JAMB’s brochure names Physics as the fifth. I would play safe and make sure you have credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. That set satisfies the brochure in full and covers every core subject on Rhema’s list. If your fifth credit is in Agricultural Science or Geography instead of Physics, ask the admissions office in writing whether it will be accepted before you pay for the form. Rhema’s page does not state the number of sittings for Biochemistry.
Direct Entry into Biochemistry at Rhema
Direct Entry candidates start at 200 level. Rhema asks for the five O’level credits plus one of these:
- At least two relevant A-level GCE passes (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics)
- IJMB
- NCE
- ND at upper credit
- HND at lower credit
- A first degree in a related field
JAMB’s brochure adds a Rhema remark for Biochemistry: Rhema accepts an ND in Chemistry or in Food Science and Technology, or an NCE in Biology/Chemistry. The general brochure rule is two A-level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology. A Food Science and Technology ND is an unusual route that few other universities name, so if that is your diploma, Rhema is worth a look.
Rhema Post-UTME screening for Biochemistry
I found no published screening procedure, date or fee for Biochemistry at Rhema. The only confirmed screening notice, reprinted by Myschool on 10 September 2025, was for MBBS and Nursing candidates: it took place on 16 September 2025 at Rhema’s Academic Block in Aba, with extra centres in Abuja (Gwarimpa) and Lagos (Ojodu Berger).
Blog posts that promise a computer-based test for every Rhema course cite no notice from the university and disagree on the form price. Apply on Rhema’s portal early, then call the admissions office (08107159322) to ask whether Biochemistry candidates will be tested.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Rhema has no published aggregate formula. Here I compare scores with the 150 floor and my 180 target, and, in case a test is held, apply the 50:50 method many Nigerian universities use (UTME divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage). It is my illustration, not Rhema’s method.
- Ngozi: UTME 184 with credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. She is 34 above the floor and 4 above my target.
- If there is a test: Ngozi scores 60%. 184 divided by 8 is 23, plus 30, giving an illustrative aggregate of 53.
- Ikenna: UTME 166 (20.75) and 74% at screening (37), for 57.75. He would rank above Ngozi on this method.
- Adaeze: UTME 190, but her fifth credit is Geography and she has a pass in Physics. She meets Rhema’s own list but not the JAMB brochure wording, so she should get written confirmation from Rhema before relying on that result.
How to apply for Biochemistry at Rhema, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Biochemistry with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics, and select Rhema University. If you chose another school, use JAMB change of institution; if you chose another course, see JAMB change of course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, using your WAEC or NECO result.
- Apply on Rhema’s portal: on rhemauniversity.edu.ng open Admissions, click “Apply Now”, sign in, complete the form and print the slip.
- Confirm any screening: ring 08107159322 or 08076846648 and ask about a Biochemistry test and the O’level fifth subject if yours is not Physics.
- Accept on CAPS: at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allowed four weeks to accept offers in 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains the statuses.
- Pay acceptance and clear: Rhema’s acceptance fee is not published in any source I reached. Get it from the university, pay through official channels and attend clearance with your original documents.
Warning
Blogs quote different prices for Rhema’s admission form. Pay only what Rhema’s own portal or admissions office states, and ignore anyone offering a guaranteed place. A genuine offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Biochemistry at Rhema University
Rhema University is a private Christian university in Aba, established in 2010 according to its news page. It awards a B.Sc. in Biochemistry. Its admissions page does not give the duration; in Nigeria the degree normally takes four years from 100 level and three through Direct Entry.
Accreditation
Rhema’s admissions page states that all its courses are accredited by the NUC. I could not find a published NUC result specific to B.Sc. Biochemistry at Rhema, so its current status is not confirmed; ask the department before you pay. Rhema also reported in October 2022 that the MDCN granted its College of Medicine and Health Sciences pre-clinical accreditation, which covers biochemistry examinations for medical students. That concerns MBBS, not this B.Sc.
What you study
- 100 level: general biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics and general studies.
- Chemistry of life: organic chemistry, biomolecules, enzymology and bioenergetics.
- Metabolism: carbohydrate, lipid, protein and nucleic acid metabolism.
- Applied areas: molecular biology, clinical and nutritional biochemistry, toxicology and laboratory techniques.
- Final stage: industrial training (SIWES) and a research project.
Graduates work in pharmaceutical and food companies, quality control and research laboratories, breweries and beverage firms, teaching, and medical and pharmaceutical sales. Biochemistry is also a common springboard for a master’s degree, and some graduates later apply for graduate-entry Medicine where it is offered.
Biochemistry, Microbiology or Chemistry at Rhema?
| Point | Biochemistry | Microbiology | Chemistry |
|---|---|---|---|
| UTME (plus English) | Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics | Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics | Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology, Mathematics |
| Main focus | Molecules and metabolism | Microbes, infection, fermentation | Matter, reactions, analysis |
| Rhema Direct Entry note (JAMB brochure) | Accepts ND Chemistry or Food Science and Technology; NCE Biology/Chemistry | Accepts ND/HND lower credit with O’level Maths, Biology, Chemistry | Does not accept A-level Biology |
See our guides to Rhema Microbiology, Rhema Chemistry and Rhema Medical Laboratory Science. For UTME revision, use our JAMB Chemistry syllabus and JAMB Biology syllabus.
Mistakes Biochemistry applicants make
- Reading 150 as a guaranteed place: it is only the minimum to be considered.
- Assuming any five sciences will do: Rhema’s list and JAMB’s brochure differ on the fifth subject, so check yours.
- Waiting for a screening notice: none has been published for Biochemistry, so apply early and ask.
- O’level missing on CAPS: Rhema cannot offer admission without it.
- Ignoring acceptance and clearance: accepting on CAPS is one step of several.

Rhema University Biochemistry cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 160 enough for Biochemistry at Rhema University? 160 clears JAMB’s 150 minimum, so you can apply. Rhema has not published a departmental cut-off; I would aim for 180 or more to be comfortable.
Can I study Biochemistry at Rhema without Physics? In the UTME, yes: you can take Mathematics instead of Physics. At O’level, JAMB’s brochure names Physics while Rhema’s page lists other options for the fifth credit, so confirm with Rhema if you lack a Physics credit.
Does Rhema University accept ND for Biochemistry Direct Entry? Yes. Rhema lists ND at upper credit, and JAMB’s brochure says Rhema accepts an ND in Chemistry or Food Science and Technology, or an NCE in Biology/Chemistry.
Is Biochemistry at Rhema University accredited? Rhema says all its courses are NUC accredited, but I found no published NUC result for Biochemistry specifically. Ask the department for its current status before paying fees.
Sources and updates
The O’level list, Direct Entry options, “Apply Now” route, the number 08076846648 and Rhema’s general accreditation statement come from Rhema University’s admissions page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). The UTME subjects, JAMB’s O’level and Direct Entry rules and the Rhema Direct Entry remark are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for Biochemistry; the Microbiology and Chemistry remarks in the comparison table are from the same brochure’s pages for those courses. The MDCN pre-clinical accreditation is from Rhema’s news report of 27 October 2022. The MBBS and Nursing screening of 16 September 2025 and the number 08107159322 are from Myschool’s reprint of Rhema’s notice (10 September 2025). The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs from that meeting does not include Rhema. The safe target score, worked example and O’level advice are my own guidance. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Rhema publishes a Biochemistry cut-off or screening notice.
