The MOUAU cut off mark for Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. That is the minimum MOUAU set for all its courses in the 2026/2027 screening notice; there is no published departmental cut-off for this course.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
This department needs more care than most at MOUAU. It is on MOUAU’s official department list, but I could not find it among the MOUAU courses in the JAMB brochure, and the brochure’s own Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology entry does not mention MOUAU. Below I set out what is confirmed, what is not, which subjects keep you safe either way, and how screening and CAPS work.

Does MOUAU admit UTME candidates into Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology?
- MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page lists a Department of Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology in the College of Crop and Soil Sciences.
- In the JAMB brochure as reprinted by Myschool, MOUAU appears under Agriculture with six final-year options: Agric Economics, Agric Extension and Rural Sociology, Animal Production, Plant Health Management, Soil Science and Agro-Climatology, and Agronomy. Water resources is not one of them.
- The brochure’s Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology entry carries remarks for FUNAAB and the Federal University Oye-Ekiti, and none for MOUAU.
- ThisDay reported in June 2021 that MOUAU’s Vice-Chancellor said NiMet’s presence on campus would help fast-track accreditation of the university’s water resources and agro-meteorology departments. That suggests the departments were still young at the time. I found no later accreditation report.
My reading: the department is real, but the JAMB route into it is unclear. It may admit through a course name that the brochure reprint has not caught up with, or students may come in through Agriculture and move into it later. Before you register, ask MOUAU’s admissions office (or check the courses JAMB shows for MOUAU at the CBT centre) whether a UTME candidate can be admitted straight into this department in 2027/2028. Do not pay anyone for a form until you have that answer.
UTME subjects and O’level: the combination that covers both routes
Because the JAMB route is unclear, the two brochure entries that could apply to you ask for different subjects:
| Brochure entry | UTME subjects (with English) | O’level |
|---|---|---|
| Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology (general entry, MOUAU not named) | Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry | Five credits in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Geography and English Language |
| Agriculture (MOUAU listed, with MOUAU remarks) | Chemistry, Biology or Agriculture, and Physics or Mathematics | MOUAU: five credits at not more than two sittings in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and another science; at least a pass in Physics; Agricultural Science backed by a Biology pass |
No single UTME combination satisfies both entries, since one leaves out Biology and the other requires it. So find out which course name JAMB shows for MOUAU before you register. If it is Agriculture, sit Chemistry, Biology and Physics with English. If MOUAU appears under the water resources name, sit Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry with English.
Your O’level can cover both. Aim for credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, plus Geography if you can. That set meets MOUAU’s Agriculture remark and the general water resources entry, and it leaves you able to switch with a JAMB change of course if you need to.
Direct Entry
The general water resources entry asks for two A-level passes from Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry. MOUAU’s own Direct Entry remarks sit on the Agriculture entry: A-level passes in Chemistry and Biology, Botany, Zoology or Agricultural Science; ND distinction or credit and HND credit into 200 level; ND lower credit and NCE double major in Agriculture (credit or merit) into 100 level; ND or HND in related fields accepted. If you are coming in with an ND in a water or meteorology field, ask MOUAU which of these it will apply to you.
Safe target score (my advice)
| UTME score | My view |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for MOUAU |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; relies on strong O’level from one sitting |
| 170 to 189 | Fair to good |
| 190 and above | Strong |
These bands are my judgement, not MOUAU policy. A newer, less known department rarely fills up first, so I would treat 180 as a comfortable target. For this course, the unclear JAMB route above is the larger risk.
MOUAU screening process
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng.
| Point | 2026/2027 notice |
|---|---|
| Eligibility | 150 or above, MOUAU first choice; candidates could change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Opening | 6 June 2026 |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng; payment issues to portal@mouau.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 by Remita, card or bank |
| How candidates are compared | UTME score, with O’level grades and number of sittings weighted |
| Awaiting results | Told not to register until results are released |
| Test date or closing date | Not stated |
Worked example (illustrative)
MOUAU has not published its aggregate formula. This example uses a method common at Nigerian universities, only to show the effect of O’level weighting: UTME ÷ 8 (up to 50) plus O’level points for five subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5).
- Ebuka, 192: one sitting with B3 English, B2 Mathematics, B3 Chemistry, B2 Physics, C4 Biology. UTME points 192 ÷ 8 = 24. O’level points 8 + 9 + 8 + 9 + 7 = 41. Total 65.
- Adaeze, 172: one sitting with B2 English, A1 Mathematics, B2 Chemistry, A1 Physics, B3 Biology. UTME points 172 ÷ 8 = 21.5. O’level points 9 + 10 + 9 + 10 + 8 = 46. Total 67.5.
- Result: Adaeze’s stronger Mathematics and Physics put her 2.5 points ahead despite a UTME score 20 marks lower.
How to apply, step by step
- Confirm the route first: ask MOUAU, or check the MOUAU course list on JAMB’s portal, whether this department takes UTME candidates and under which course name.
- Profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: MOUAU first choice, with the subjects that match the course name you confirmed. A school other than MOUAU in first place can be fixed with a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload O’level: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre, so your result reaches CAPS.
- Screening: register on portal.mouau.edu.ng and pay the fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) through Remita.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept. See our JAMB CAPS guide.
- Acceptance fee: no MOUAU fee figure was published in sources I reached; pay only the amount on your portal invoice.
Check before you pay
This department’s UTME intake is not confirmed in any public source I found. Confirm with MOUAU that it is admitting before paying for a form, and remember that a genuine offer always appears on JAMB CAPS.
About the course at MOUAU
Water Resources Management and Agrometeorology sits in MOUAU’s College of Crop and Soil Sciences with Agronomy, Plant Health Management, and Soil Science and Meteorology. MOUAU was established by federal decree in November 1992 and is at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia, Abia State. ThisDay reported in June 2021 that NiMet had built a weather station at MOUAU and agreed to train staff and equip the meteorological laboratory, facilities this department would use.
What the field covers
- Hydrology: rainfall, runoff, rivers and groundwater.
- Irrigation and drainage: supplying and removing water on farms.
- Agrometeorology: how weather and climate affect crops and livestock, and how to use weather data in farm planning.
- Water quality and management: water supply, pollution and watershed planning.
These are the areas such programmes normally cover in Nigeria; MOUAU’s own course list was not available to me. The degree title, duration (agriculture degrees usually take five years) and NUC accreditation status are not confirmed in any source I reached.
Careers
- Irrigation and water projects with river basin authorities and state water agencies.
- Weather and climate services for agriculture.
- Water supply, sanitation and environmental consultancy.
- Climate adaptation work with NGOs and development agencies.

Mistakes to avoid
- Assuming the JAMB course name: check what JAMB lists for MOUAU before choosing subjects.
- Dropping Biology or Physics at O’level: keep both so either route stays open.
- Treating 150 as admission: it only qualifies you for screening.
- Registering while awaiting results: MOUAU asked candidates to wait.
