ABSCOHTECH Statistics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Requirements, Subjects and Screening

The ABSCOHTECH Statistics cut-off mark for 2027/2028 is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100, with no departmental figure published. See the UTME subjects (and the listing error to watch), O’level rules, screening and steps.

The ABSCOHTECH Statistics cut-off mark for 2027/2028 planning is 100 in the UTME, the JAMB minimum for polytechnics in 2025/2026 and 2026/2027. Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba has not published a separate figure for Statistics, and no 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 admission notice from the college has surfaced.

2027/2028 update: ABSCOHTECH cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Statistics is one of the college’s older ND courses and is on JAMB’s list for ABSCOHTECH. This page sets out the official figures, my safe target score, the subject requirements (with a warning about a garbled UTME line on some listing sites), the college’s past screening, a worked example, the CAPS steps and the career route.

JAMB’s institution data, as reproduced by Myschool and other listing sites, puts ABSCOHTECH in the state polytechnic group, so the polytechnic minimum of 100 is the one that applies on JAMB’s side. The college has never published a higher departmental figure that I could find, and I would not trust any blog that prints one without a college notice behind it.

Safe target score for Statistics at ABSCOHTECH (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a college rule. With no published merit list, the safest plan is to clear 100 by a wide margin so that your UTME score is never the reason you are passed over.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Statistics at ABSCOHTECH
Below 100Below the JAMB minimum for polytechnics; not eligible through the UTME this session
100 to 139Eligible. Your O’level grades and the college’s own screening will decide it
140 to 179Comfortable for a state college of this kind
180 and aboveStrong. The score is unlikely to be what holds you back

For Statistics I would aim for 140 or more, with a strong Mathematics credit. In my experience Statistics draws fewer applicants than Computer Science, but the college will still rank you, and Mathematics is what the course runs on.

UTME subject combination and O’level requirements for Statistics

RequirementStatistics (ND)
UTME subjectsUse of English and Mathematics, plus two relevant subjects; Economics with Physics, Geography or Chemistry is the safe choice. Confirm on the e-brochure
O’level creditsEnglish Language and Mathematics, plus at least three of Physics, Statistics, Chemistry, Further Mathematics, Economics or Geography
Direct EntryNo Direct Entry route listed for this course at ABSCOHTECH
SittingsNot stated by the college

I could not load Myschool’s brochure page for polytechnic Statistics, and the two other places that list ABSCOHTECH’s requirements print a UTME line that does not make sense: “any three” of Economics or Commerce, History or Government, CRS or Islamic Studies and Mathematics. That reads like an arts course’s combination pasted into the wrong row. A Statistics diploma is built on Mathematics, so I would not register without it.

My advice is to register Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one of Physics, Geography or Chemistry, then open the e-brochure on your JAMB profile and check ABSCOHTECH’s Statistics entry before you pay. If the e-brochure shows something different, follow it, since it is JAMB’s own record.

HND Statistics

The Sun reported in October 2016 that the college ran Statistics at ND level and was waiting for an NBTE visit to accredit HND programmes. HND Statistics then appeared in the 2023/2024 form notice. HND entry normally needs a relevant ND at lower credit or better and a year of industrial training, which is the usual NBTE rule.

How ABSCOHTECH admission and screening work

ABSCOHTECH has not published a 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 admission notice that I could reach, so nobody outside the college can tell you the current form price, sale dates or test date. What is on record from earlier cycles shows how the process has run:

DateWhat happenedSource
1 November 2022The college PRO, Ekwurundu Emmanuel, announced an entrance exam for all prospective candidates on Friday 4 November 2022 at 9am in the school auditoriumMyschool reprint of the college notice
27 July 2023Forms for 2023/2024 went on sale for ND, HND and certificate programmesMyschool summary; the college’s own notice was not seen
10 May 2024Matriculation for newly admitted students, both UTME and Direct Entry, at the College Matriculation GroundSchoolings.org (3 May 2024); Myschool lists it as the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 matriculation
2025/2026 and 2026/2027No admission notice foundSearches up to 29 October 2026

Two things follow from that record. The college sells its own form and has run its own written entrance exam, and its matriculation notice speaks of students admitted through UTME and Direct Entry. So for an ND course on JAMB’s list you should expect both: a UTME score of at least 100 with ABSCOHTECH chosen on JAMB, and the college’s own form and test.

A login page at portal.abscohmat.edu.ng, titled “ABSCOHMAT SM Core Portal”, appears in search results. Its domain matches one of the college’s short names, but I could not read anything on it beyond the title, so ask the college whether that is where you apply before you pay anything through it.

Worked example for a Statistics candidate

ABSCOHTECH has not published how it ranks candidates. The figures below use a 50:50 split between the UTME and the entrance exam, a method some Nigerian polytechnics use. Treat it as an illustration only, not the college’s formula.

Take Chiamaka, who scored 149 in the UTME and 61 out of 100 in the college test, with credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Physics and Further Mathematics.

  1. Eligibility: 149 minus 100 = 49. Chiamaka clears the JAMB polytechnic minimum by 49 marks.
  2. UTME half: 149 divided by 400, times 50 = 18.62.
  3. Test half: 61 divided by 100, times 50 = 30.5.
  4. Illustrative total: 49.12 out of 100.
  5. O’level check: English and Mathematics plus three from the approved list. She qualifies.

Ikenna scored 133 with an E8 in Mathematics. His UTME clears 100, but Mathematics at credit is required at O’level, so he cannot be admitted into Statistics on that result. He needs a Mathematics credit from a resit before he applies again.

How to apply for Statistics at ABSCOHTECH, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Statistics with Use of English, Mathematics and two relevant subjects such as Economics and Physics or Geography, and pick Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology, Aba as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution before the college’s screening.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, so the college can see your grades when it considers you.
  4. Buy the college form: only from the college itself. Ask at the admission office in Aba, or confirm that the portal at portal.abscohmat.edu.ng is the official channel, before paying.
  5. Sit the entrance exam: if one is set for your session, take your form printout, UTME result slip and a passport photograph unless the notice says otherwise.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay the acceptance fee and clear: the college has not published its acceptance or school fees in any source I reached, so get the amount and the account details from the college, then print your JAMB admission letter.

Warning

Classified ad sites carry posts that sell “Abia State College of Health Technology, Aba” forms through a phone number and a Gmail address, and some list courses that do not match the college’s JAMB list. Do not pay anyone through those adverts. Buy the form from the college, and remember that a genuine ND offer for a UTME candidate will also show on your JAMB CAPS page.

About Abia State College of Health Sciences and Management Technology

The college is owned by Abia State and sits in Aba. You will see three short names for it: ABSCOHTECH, ABSCOHMAT and, less often, ABSCOHSMT. They are the same school.

  • It began in 1948 as a School of Hygiene and was later known as the School of Health, according to The Sun (October 2016).
  • A law signed on 26 August 2009 upgraded it to a polytechnic-level college, which is why its head is a Rector.
  • Governor Alex Otti approved Aloysius Ekeleme Okezie as substantive Rector on 13 June 2023 (Prime Business Africa and Voice of Nigeria).
  • In February 2021 the state laid the foundation stone of a permanent site at Umuobiakwa, saying the campus in Aba’s busy city centre no longer suited academic work. I found no report that the move has happened.

Studying Statistics at ABSCOHTECH

ND Statistics normally lasts two years with industrial training, and the HND another two. ABSCOHTECH has not published its course outline, so the list below is what the course generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics.

  • Descriptive statistics and probability
  • Statistical inference and hypothesis testing
  • Sampling and survey methods
  • Economic, social and vital statistics (births, deaths, health data)
  • Statistical computing with spreadsheets and statistical software
  • Demography and a final project

Vital and health statistics fit this college well, since many of its graduates end up working alongside health records and public health staff.

Accreditation: ND and HND programmes are accredited by NBTE. The 2016 report shows the ND was running then; I could not confirm its current NBTE status, so ask the department before you pay fees.

Careers: survey and census work (the National Bureau of Statistics and state statistics offices), data entry and analysis in hospitals and NGOs, banks, market research and teaching. Many graduates move on to HND or a degree in Statistics.

Revising for the 2027 UTME? Start with past questions in Mathematics and Economics, plus our JAMB Chemistry syllabus if Chemistry is your fourth subject, and read when JAMB 2027 registration starts so you do not miss registration.

Mistakes that cost Statistics applicants an ABSCOHTECH place

  • Copying the garbled UTME line from listing sites: keep Mathematics in your combination and confirm on the e-brochure.
  • No Mathematics credit: it is required at O’level.
  • Treating 100 as admission: the college still screens you.
  • O’level not on CAPS: upload early.
  • Paying an online agent: buy the form only from the college.
  • Accepting on CAPS and doing nothing else: acceptance fee and clearance follow at the college.

If your score or subjects do not fit, read our guides to JAMB change of course and how to check your JAMB result.

ABSCOHTECH Statistics: frequently asked questions

Does ABSCOHTECH offer HND Statistics? HND Statistics was listed in the 2023/2024 form notice. Confirm with the college that it is running for your session.

Sources and updates

The national minimum of 100 for polytechnics comes from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026, reported by TheNigeriaLawyer) and its 2025 meeting (Nairametrics, 8 July 2025). The 2022 entrance exam notice, the 2023/2024 form sale and programme list, and the February 2021 permanent site report are from Myschool news reprints (1 November 2022, 27 July 2023, 26 February 2021); the May 2024 matriculation is from Schoolings.org (3 May 2024). The college history is from The Sun (4 October 2016) and the 2023 Rector appointment from Prime Business Africa (13 June 2023) and Voice of Nigeria. Myschool’s institution page classes ABSCOHTECH as a polytechnic, and its six JAMB courses come from allschool.ng and a public mirror of JAMB’s institution data; MyEduvantage (5 May 2026) was used for the college’s own course table. Myschool’s polytechnic brochure page for Statistics would not load on 29 October 2026. The O’level list is from the JAMB data mirror for ABSCOHTECH; the UTME line printed there and by MyEduvantage looks wrong, so the combination on this page is my advice and must be confirmed on the JAMB e-brochure. The 2016 ND and HND accreditation position is from The Sun (4 October 2016). No ABSCOHTECH departmental cut-off, fee, form date or current accreditation letter was found. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated when the college publishes a 2027/2028 notice.
