GOUNI Cut-Off Mark for Medicine and Surgery 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Medicine and Surgery is 200, with a ₦5,000 form and an MDCN quota of 50. See the official figure, a safe target score, subjects, the online application and MDCN status.

The GOUNI cut off mark for Medicine and Surgery is 200 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, the private Catholic university at Thinkers Corner, Enugu, published that minimum on its official 2026/2027 admission form page, and it is GOUNI’s highest figure, shared only with Law. JAMB’s general minimum for universities is 150, so Medicine at GOUNI asks for 50 marks more than the national floor.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Two more things decide whether 200 is enough for you. GOUNI’s medical school is young and small: the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) lists it as partially accredited with an admission quota of 50. And GOUNI does not publish the score of the last candidate it admits into Medicine. This guide covers the official figure, a safe target score (my advice), the exact JAMB course name and subjects, how GOUNI’s online application works, the ₦5,000 form, and what MDCN’s listing means for you.

Medicine and Surgery is on JAMB’s course list for GOUNI and on GOUNI’s own 2026/2027 list of available programmes, under the College of Medicine. On JAMB, register it as Medicine and Surgery.

Is 200 the real GOUNI Medicine cut-off?

200 is the minimum GOUNI will consider. It is the figure printed beside Medicine and Surgery in the university’s list of minimum JAMB scores for 2026/2027: Medicine and Surgery 200, Law 200, Nursing 180, and 150 for every other programme. A blog, AbsTechConnect, carried the same figures on 24 May 2026, so the number has been stable through the cycle.

What GOUNI does not publish is a merit list or a final departmental cut-off. With MDCN capping the intake at 50, the university can only take a small group from everyone who applies with 200 or more. If many candidates score above 200, the effective score moves up. I would treat 200 as the entry ticket and plan to beat it comfortably.

Safe target score for GOUNI Medicine (my advice)

This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. GOUNI has not published any of these bands.

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Medicine and Surgery
Below 200Not eligible for Medicine at GOUNI this session
200 to 219Eligible. Possible if your O’level is strong and you apply early, but keep a second plan ready
220 to 249Competitive for a 50-seat private medical school
250 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for at least 230, ideally 250, with credits (better still, A1 to B3) in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. A high score also keeps public options such as UNN Medicine and ESUT Medicine open, which matters if you cannot afford private school fees.

GOUNI is a private university, so there is no catchment or state-of-origin quota. Candidates from every state compete on the same terms.

UTME subject combination and O’level for GOUNI Medicine

RequirementMedicine and Surgery at GOUNI
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
SittingsNo GOUNI rule in the brochure. Several other schools demand one sitting; one sitting is the safer plan
GOUNI’s own ruleFive credits in the course’s required subjects, including English and Mathematics
Direct Entry (JAMB general rule)A-level passes in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (or Zoology) plus the UTME requirements, or a B.Sc. in a relevant programme
GOUNI Direct Entry noteApply with the current JAMB Direct Entry form
JUPEB combination at GOUNIBiology, Chemistry, Physics

These rules come from JAMB’s brochure entry for Medicine and Surgery, which I checked on Myschool’s reprint. The entry carries special remarks for many universities, including one-sitting rules for UNIBEN, UI, ABSU, EBSU, UNN, COOU and others, but none for GOUNI. So GOUNI follows JAMB’s general rule. It has not said whether it accepts two sittings for Medicine, so if your five credits are split across two exams, write to the admissions office before you pay the form fee.

Do not swap Physics for Mathematics on your UTME registration. JAMB only allows that swap for a few named universities, and GOUNI is not one of them. Our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus cover two of your three science papers.

How GOUNI screening works for Medicine

GOUNI does not describe a written Post-UTME test on its admission page. Candidates apply online, and the university says it sends its decision by e-mail within three working days. Some blogs use the phrase “GOUNI Post-UTME” for this online form, but none of them gives a test date or a test format from GOUNI.

Worked example for a Medicine applicant

GOUNI has not published an aggregate formula, and with no test there is no Post-UTME score to add. The useful sums are the gap between your score, the 200 minimum and a safe target.

Take Chiamaka, who scored 236 in the UTME with A1 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, B2 in Chemistry and A1 in Biology, all from one WAEC sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 236 minus 200 = 36. She clears GOUNI’s Medicine minimum by 36 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 236 is above my 230 floor and 14 short of 250, so I would call her competitive.
  3. O’level check: five credits in the right subjects, one sitting, uploaded to CAPS. Nothing rules her out.
  4. What I would advise: apply early in the cycle, pay the ₦5,000 only on GOUNI’s platform, and answer the Admissions Officer’s e-mail quickly.

Ifeanyi scored 204 with C6 in Physics from a second sitting. 204 minus 200 = 4. He may apply, but with 50 seats he is at the bottom of the eligible pool, and his split result may need clearing with the admissions office. I would advise him to apply and also prepare to resit the UTME in 2027.

How to apply for Medicine at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the right course: pick Godfrey Okoye University and the course exactly as JAMB lists it, Medicine and Surgery, with the correct UTME subjects.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. Our change of institution guide walks you through it.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, and check that every grade shows correctly on your e-Facility profile.
  5. Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page on gouni.edu.ng and apply for Medicine and Surgery. Use an e-mail address you check daily, because the decision comes by e-mail.
  6. Form fee: Medicine and Surgery attracts a ₦5,000 form fee. Pay it only through GOUNI’s online payment platform.
  7. Wait for the e-mail: GOUNI says it replies within three working days of submission.
  8. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  9. Pay fees the right way: for Medicine, do not pay tuition until the Admissions Officer e-mails you with instructions. Then pay through GOUNI’s official platform and keep every receipt.

Warning

GOUNI tells applicants to pay only through the university’s official online payment platform and says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk. Nobody can sell you a GOUNI admission slot. Every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its own news post of 12 May 2026. Public universities had 31 October 2026. JAMB has not yet announced the 2027/2028 dates, so watch for them after the 2027 UTME.

Studying Medicine and Surgery at GOUNI

GOUNI’s College of Medicine was established on 6 October 2022, according to the university’s Medicine and Surgery page, and it sits at the Ugwuomu-Nike campus. The same page names the Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital (Ntasi Obi) as the teaching hospital and describes the course as an NUC-approved full-time programme. The degree is the MBBS, and Nigerian MBBS programmes normally run for six years.

What MDCN’s listing means

Medical schools need MDCN accreditation as well as NUC approval, because MDCN controls who can register as a doctor in Nigeria. On MDCN’s list of accredited medical schools, row 56 reads “Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu Nike, Enugu”, with status Partially Accredited and an admission quota of 50. The list carries no date, so I can’t tell you when that status was granted or when it will be reviewed.

Enugu medical schoolMDCN statusQuota
College of Medicine, University of Nigeria, Enugu CampusFully accredited180
College of Medicine, ESUT, EnuguFully accredited120
State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-EnoPartially accredited100
Godfrey Okoye University, Ugwuomu-NikePartially accredited50

Partial accreditation usually applies to a new medical school whose later years MDCN has not yet inspected, and two of Enugu’s four listed schools are in that position. MDCN’s list does not define the term, so ask GOUNI which stage its accreditation covers and when the next visit is due. I would ask that question before paying fees for Medicine anywhere that is not fully accredited.

What you study

  • Basic medical sciences: anatomy, physiology and biochemistry, ending with the second MBBS examination.
  • Basic clinical sciences: pathology, pharmacology and microbiology, alongside early clinical exposure.
  • Clinical years: surgery, internal medicine, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, community medicine and other postings at the teaching hospital.
  • After graduation: a one-year housemanship with MDCN provisional registration, then full registration and National Youth Service.

GOUNI’s page names three faculties for these phases: Basic Medical Sciences, Basic Clinical Sciences and Clinical Medicine. Careers open to graduates include hospital practice, residency training in a specialty, public health, research and work abroad after the relevant foreign licensing exams.

GOUNI announced plans to introduce Pharmacy and Medical Laboratory Science, but neither appears on its 2026/2027 list of available programmes, so do not register for them at GOUNI until the university lists them.

Mistakes that cost Medicine applicants a GOUNI place

  • Treating 200 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply, and only 50 seats are available.
  • Registering Mathematics instead of Physics: GOUNI has no brochure waiver for that swap.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice: GOUNI asks for a change of institution before it can admit you.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot process your admission without it.
  • Using an e-mail address you never check: the decision and the fee instructions come by e-mail.
  • Paying anyone outside GOUNI’s platform: the university disowns such payments.

If you missed out this year, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result and what to do with the score.

GOUNI cut off mark for Medicine: frequently asked questions

Is 190 enough for Medicine in GOUNI? No. GOUNI’s minimum for Medicine and Surgery in 2026/2027 is 200, so 190 does not qualify you to apply for the course. With 190 you could apply for a GOUNI course with a 150 minimum, such as Biochemistry or Microbiology.

How much is the GOUNI Medicine form? ₦5,000 for 2026/2027, paid only through GOUNI’s online payment platform. Most other GOUNI programmes have a free form.

Does GOUNI write Post-UTME for Medicine? GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page describes an online application with an e-mailed decision within three working days and mentions no written test. Watch the form page in case that changes for 2027/2028.

Is GOUNI Medicine accredited by MDCN? MDCN’s list of accredited medical schools shows Godfrey Okoye University as partially accredited with a quota of 50. The list is undated, so confirm the current stage with GOUNI before you pay fees.

The 200 minimum, the ₦5,000 form fee, the free form for other courses, the online application, the three-working-day e-mail decision, the change of institution rule, the Direct Entry note, the JUPEB combination and the payment warning come from GOUNI’s Fill Admission Form page for 2026/2027. The College of Medicine’s founding date, campus, teaching hospital and three faculties come from GOUNI’s Medicine and Surgery page. The MDCN status and quota come from MDCN’s undated list of accredited medical schools. The JAMB course name is from JAMB’s course list for GOUNI and the subject rules from JAMB’s brochure entry for Medicine and Surgery, both read on Myschool’s reprint. The 150 national minimum and the 30 November 2026 private university deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026), and GOUNI’s news post of 12 May 2026 repeats the deadline. AbsTechConnect (24 May 2026) is an unofficial repeat of the cut-offs. The safe target bands and the worked example are my advice. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated when GOUNI publishes its 2027/2028 figures.
