MOUAU Cut-Off Mark for Animal Breeding and Physiology 2027/2028: Requirements and Screening

MOUAU’s minimum for Animal Breeding and Physiology is 150 with MOUAU as first choice. On JAMB it sits under Animal Production. See subjects, O’level rules, a safe target score, screening and CAPS steps.

The MOUAU cut off mark for Animal Breeding and Physiology is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. That was MOUAU’s single minimum for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice; there is no separate published figure for this department.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

On JAMB’s list this is an option under Animal Production, so you may not find it by its MOUAU department name. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the subject rules, MOUAU’s screening, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the course covers.

Safe target score for Animal Breeding and Physiology at MOUAU (my advice)

MOUAU does not publish the score of the last person admitted into each course, so what follows is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not a MOUAU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Animal Breeding and Physiology
Below 150Not eligible for any MOUAU course
150 to 169Eligible to register, but admission is uncertain
170 to 189Reasonable chance with good O’level grades from one sitting
190 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

Animal science options at MOUAU are usually less contested than courses such as Biochemistry or Microbiology, though that is my experience and MOUAU has published no data on it. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, ideally 190, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics.

Catchment and merit

MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states, so do not lean on catchment to rescue a low score. A strong UTME result and clean O’level grades from one sitting are what you control.

UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Animal Breeding and Physiology

RequirementAnimal Breeding and Physiology at MOUAU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics
O’level (MOUAU remark)Five credits at not more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and another science subject
PhysicsMOUAU requires at least an O’level pass in Physics
Agricultural ScienceA credit in Agricultural Science must be backed by at least a pass in Biology
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
SittingsTwo allowed, but MOUAU weights sittings in screening
Awaiting resultsRegister for MOUAU screening only after your result is out
JAMB course nameAnimal Production (MOUAU options: Animal Breeding and Physiology; Animal Nutrition and Forage Science; Animal Production and Management)
Special requirementsNone published beyond screening

On JAMB’s brochure, as reprinted by Myschool, this course sits under Animal Production, and MOUAU is the only school listed with options under it: Animal Breeding and Physiology, Animal Nutrition and Forage Science, and Animal Production and Management. Look for Animal Production when you search the course list during registration, and pick the option you want if the form offers one.

MOUAU’s remark on that entry asks for five O’level credits at no more than two sittings, covering English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other science subject, plus at least a pass in Physics. An Agricultural Science credit must be backed by at least a pass in Biology. The general line on the entry lists credits in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics and English, so a Physics credit keeps you safe on both counts.

Direct Entry

The Animal Production entry’s general Direct Entry rule is two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics or Economics. MOUAU’s remark asks for A-level passes in Chemistry and Biology, Botany, Zoology or Agricultural Science. Under the general Agriculture entry, MOUAU also accepts ND or HND in related fields, with ND distinction or credit and HND credit holders going into 200 level. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no separate Direct Entry details.

How MOUAU screening works for Animal Breeding and Physiology

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint rather than the source document.

Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. Watch the portal after you register: MOUAU told candidates to check it regularly for screening results and admission status.

Worked example for an Animal Breeding and Physiology candidate

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how the pieces interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not MOUAU’s formula.

  1. Kelechi scored 196 with B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B2 in Chemistry, A1 in Biology and C4 in Physics from one sitting. UTME points: 196 ÷ 8 = 24.5. O’level points: 8 + 9 + 9 + 10 + 7 = 43. Illustrative total: 67.5.
  2. Adaeze scored 172 with C4 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C4 in Chemistry, B3 in Agricultural Science and C6 in Further Mathematics across two sittings, with no Biology or Physics result. UTME points: 172 ÷ 8 = 21.5. O’level points: 7 + 6 + 7 + 8 + 5 = 33. Illustrative total: 54.5.
  3. The real problem: Adaeze’s score is fine, but she has no Biology pass to back her Agricultural Science credit and no Physics pass. On MOUAU’s remark she does not qualify, whatever her total.

Before paying for screening, line your O’level up against the requirement table above. Missing subjects end applications faster than low scores do.

How to apply for Animal Breeding and Physiology at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Animal Breeding and Physiology at MOUAU with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU counts your grades and sittings, so upload the best single sitting you have.
  4. Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and receipt.
  6. Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there; there was no published test date in 2026/2027.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from the portal invoice and pay only through it.

Warning

Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone offering a MOUAU “slot” for money is selling something that does not exist, so pay only through the MOUAU portal invoice.

For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied, look at CAPS now rather than waiting for a printed list.

Studying Animal Breeding and Physiology at MOUAU

Animal Breeding and Physiology is a department in MOUAU’s College of Animal Science and Animal Production (CASAP), alongside Animal Nutrition and Forage Science and Animal Production and Livestock Management. The course studies how farm animals inherit traits and how their bodies work, especially in growth and reproduction, so that farmers can breed better stock. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, established in 1992.

What you study

  • Early years: biology, chemistry, mathematics, general agriculture and introductory animal science.
  • Genetics and breeding: animal genetics, population and quantitative genetics, selection and breeding programmes.
  • Physiology: reproductive physiology, environmental physiology and artificial insemination.
  • Practical work: livestock handling on the university farm; Nigerian agriculture degrees usually include a farm practical year, and MOUAU’s handbook gives the exact arrangement.

Degree title, duration and accreditation

MOUAU’s official department list confirms the department. The degree title (likely B.Agric, but not confirmed) and the duration were not in any official source I reached; agriculture degrees in Nigeria usually run for five years. I found no published NUC accreditation status for this programme, so I am not claiming one.

Careers

  • Livestock breeding and hatchery operations (poultry, pigs, goats, cattle).
  • Artificial insemination and reproductive services for farms.
  • Research roles in livestock research institutes and university laboratories.
  • Your own breeding or livestock enterprise.
  • Postgraduate study in animal breeding, genetics or reproductive physiology.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Chemistry syllabus and JAMB Biology syllabus. If you are writing again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and once results are out, how to check your JAMB result.

Mistakes that cost Animal Breeding and Physiology applicants a MOUAU place

  • Searching JAMB’s list for “Animal Breeding”: look under Animal Production.
  • No Physics pass: MOUAU requires at least a pass.
  • Agricultural Science credit with no Biology pass: it will not count.
  • Treating 150 as admission: it only gets you into screening.
  • MOUAU not first choice: required by the notice.
  • Waiting for a printed list: offers appear on CAPS, and you have four weeks to accept.

MOUAU cut off mark for Animal Breeding and Physiology: frequently asked questions

Is 160 enough for Animal Breeding and Physiology in MOUAU? Yes, 160 clears the 150 minimum, so you can register for screening. I would treat 170 and above as a reasonable chance, so at 160 your O’level grades carry more of the weight.

Why can’t I find Animal Breeding and Physiology on my JAMB course list? JAMB lists it as an option under Animal Production at MOUAU. Choose Animal Production and select the option if the form asks.

What JAMB subjects do I need for Animal Breeding and Physiology? English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics, according to JAMB’s Animal Production entry as reprinted by Myschool.

Is Animal Breeding and Physiology the same as Veterinary Medicine? No. Veterinary Medicine trains animal doctors in MOUAU’s College of Veterinary Medicine, while Animal Breeding and Physiology is an animal science course focused on improving livestock through genetics and reproduction.
