GOUNI Chemistry Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Chemistry is 150 and the form is free. See the UTME subjects, the two-sitting O’level rule, Direct Entry, fees and what B.Sc. Chemistry covers.

The GOUNI Chemistry cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. For 2026/2027, Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu set 200 for Medicine and Surgery and Law, 180 for Nursing and 150 for every other programme, and B.Sc. Chemistry is in that last group. It is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. GOUNI has not published a higher departmental score for Chemistry, and the form is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

JAMB lists the course for GOUNI simply as Chemistry, and the brochure has two remarks that apply to GOUNI: one limits your O’level to two sittings and the other sets the Direct Entry subjects. GOUNI also runs a separate Industrial Chemistry degree and a Chemistry Education degree, which many applicants mix up. This guide covers the cut-off, the subjects, how GOUNI decides, the fees and what the B.Sc. Chemistry course looks like.

GOUNI has never released a separate Chemistry score that I could find. Treat 150 as the cut-off and treat any higher “official” GOUNI Chemistry figure online as somebody’s guess.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)

Pure Chemistry draws fewer applicants than Biochemistry, Microbiology or Computer Science, and GOUNI decides forms individually. A score just above 150 is usually workable if the O’level is clean. These bands are my own reading, not a GOUNI rule:

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Chemistry
Below 150Not eligible through UTME this year. JUPEB at GOUNI or A-levels then Direct Entry are the options.
150 to 164Eligible. Make sure the five credits came from one or two sittings.
165 to 184Comfortable at GOUNI, and above the 160 that UNN and ESUT ask for their chemistry degrees.
185 and aboveComfortable. You could also look at Biochemistry or Industrial Chemistry at GOUNI if you want a more applied degree.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Chemistry at GOUNI

There is no GOUNI remark on the UTME line in JAMB’s Chemistry entry, so the general rule applies. The two GOUNI remarks are on the O’level and Direct Entry lines.

RequirementChemistry at GOUNI
JAMB course nameChemistry (Godfrey Okoye University)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry and any two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics
O’level, JAMB general lineFive credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
O’level, JAMB remark for GOUNIFive O’level credits at not more than two sittings
O’level, GOUNI handbookEnglish, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and any other relevant science
GOUNI form pageFive credits in the course’s subjects, English and Mathematics included
Direct Entry, JAMB remark for GOUNITwo A-level passes in Chemistry and any one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology

Which UTME subjects to write

I would write English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. That is the best fit for a chemistry degree heavy on physical chemistry and calculations, and it keeps Industrial Chemistry, Physics and Computer Science open at GOUNI. If your strength is Biology, English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics also meets the rule and keeps Biochemistry and Microbiology open. Whatever you pick, include Physics or Mathematics; JAMB’s rule does not allow Chemistry and Biology with a non-science subject.

O’level in practice

  • Required credits: English, Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics, plus one more science. Biology is the usual fifth; Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics should count as “relevant”, but confirm with GOUNI if you rely on them.
  • Sittings: not more than two, per JAMB’s GOUNI remark.
  • Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME and fill the GOUNI form while waiting, but nothing moves on CAPS until the result is uploaded.

Direct Entry and JUPEB

For Direct Entry, JAMB’s remark for GOUNI asks for two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology. GOUNI’s handbook adds IJMB and JUPEB as accepted routes into 200 level, where Direct Entry students need 90 units to graduate. JAMB’s general line also allows ND or NCE holders with good grades, but GOUNI’s remark names only A-levels, so check with the admissions office if you hold an ND in Science Laboratory Technology. The form page tells Direct Entry applicants to use the current JAMB Direct Entry form.

GOUNI also runs JUPEB on campus; ask the JUPEB office which three subjects it pairs with this course. The programme lasts nine to eleven months, the on-campus form costs ₦10,000 and you need five O’level credits in not more than two sittings. A good JUPEB result is a route into 200 level. Since JAMB’s June 2026 guide, colleges of education no longer admit anyone into 100 or 200 level degree programmes, so a degree through a college is no longer a back door. Your real options outside the UTME are JUPEB, A-levels, or an ND followed by Direct Entry.

How GOUNI screens Chemistry applicants

GOUNI’s official form page does not describe a Post-UTME test for undergraduates. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. The page mentions no written test, no interview and no aggregate score for Chemistry.

The reply comes by e-mail, so use an address you open every day and type it carefully; a single wrong letter means the offer never reaches you.

Worked example (illustrative)

GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so these examples only check the score and the subjects.

Kosisochukwu scored 167 in English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. Her WAEC (one sitting) has B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in English, C6 in Physics, B2 in Biology and C4 in Economics.

  1. Score: 167 is 17 above GOUNI’s 150.
  2. UTME subjects: Chemistry with Physics and Mathematics fits JAMB’s rule.
  3. O’level: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, all credits in one sitting.
  4. Next step: fill the free form, watch her e-mail, accept on CAPS.

Emeka scored 171, but his credits come from three results: WAEC 2024, NECO 2024 and WAEC GCE 2025. His Physics credit is only on the third. The score is fine, but GOUNI’s two-sitting remark rules out the combination as it stands. He needs Physics and the other credits inside two of those results, or a new sitting that replaces one of them.

Admission odds and advice

  • Sittings decide many cases: GOUNI’s remark caps you at two, so plan your resits around that.
  • Physics matters: both the handbook and JAMB’s general line want a Physics credit.
  • Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
  • Apply early: the three-day reply means a GOUNI offer can arrive before public universities finish screening.
  • Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB announces the 2027/2028 dates each year, so expect a similar private-university date but check it when it comes out.

Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry or Chemistry Education?

GOUNI courseWho it suits
Chemistry (B.Sc.)Students who want broad chemistry: analysis, research, quality control, further study
Industrial Chemistry (B.Sc.)Students aiming at factories, process plants and production work
Chemistry Education (B.Sc. Ed.)Students who want to teach Chemistry in secondary schools

All three share the 150 minimum. Pick the one whose final-year jobs you actually want. You can read more in our guides to GOUNI Industrial Chemistry and GOUNI Chemistry Education.

How to apply for Chemistry at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the course “Chemistry”, and write English, Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
  4. Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. The form page says the admission is completed with a JAMB admission letter, so this step cannot be skipped.
  5. Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, choose your course under the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies and submit. The form costs nothing for this faculty.
  6. Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only (GOUNI warns that payments into personal accounts are at your own risk), then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

How much is Chemistry at GOUNI? (last published fees)

The newest GOUNI fee schedule I could find is the 2025/2026 session fees structure. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so use these figures to judge the size of the bill and expect some change for 2027/2028.

Item (2025/2026)AmountNote
Chemistry tuition, first figure₦820,000Under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees”
Other three yearly figures₦790,000, ₦740,000 and ₦750,000The schedule does not label which level each figure belongs to
Acceptance fee₦30,000100 level only
Matriculation fee₦20,000100 level only
Online course registration and ICT₦60,000Every level
Library fee₦20,000General charges
Parents’ Forum fee₦10,000General charges
Medical and drug test₦10,000100 to 300 level
Faculty and departmental fees₦5,000 and ₦3,000All faculties except Law

There are smaller charges as well, such as student affairs, sports, sanitation, entrepreneurship, health insurance and ID card fees. Tuition is paid per session: 60% in the first semester and the remaining 40% within three months of resumption. The other fees must be cleared before course registration. Chemistry carries the same figures as Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Applied Biology, Industrial Chemistry and Physics in the schedule. Ask the bursary what the tuition line covers, especially accommodation, before you budget.

Studying Chemistry at GOUNI

Is GOUNI Chemistry accredited?

  • GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without a list of programme results or dates.
  • 2021 results: Myschool’s report of 9 August 2021 listed 13 GOUNI programmes with full NUC accreditation. Chemistry was not on that list, which only tells you it was not part of that round.
  • NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and a search of NUC’s report pages turned up no report naming this GOUNI programme.

So I am treating the NUC status of B.Sc. Chemistry as not confirmed. I found no report of a denied or suspended result, the course is on GOUNI’s 2026/2027 form list and fee schedule, and GOUNI has posted its full curriculum. Before you pay tuition, ask the admissions office in writing about the programme’s current NUC status.

What you study

GOUNI’s B.Sc. Chemistry curriculum (September 2023) is a four-year programme with 120 units for UTME entrants and 90 for Direct Entry, and a minimum CGPA of 1.00 to graduate.

LevelMain courses in GOUNI’s curriculum
100 levelGeneral Chemistry I and II, General Physics I and II, General Biology I and II, Elementary Mathematics I and II, Introduction to Computing, Communication in English, practicals
200 levelPhysical, Organic, Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry I, Structure and Bonding, chemistry practicals, Statistics for Physical Sciences, Instrumentation Chemistry and Analytical Methods
300 levelPhysical, Inorganic and Organic Chemistry II, Atomic and Molecular Structure and Symmetry, Analytical Atomic Spectroscopy, Applied Spectroscopy, Environmental Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Corrosion and Control Chemistry, Computational Chemistry and Molecular Docking
400 levelReaction Kinetics, Analytical Chemistry II, Organometallic and Co-ordination Chemistry, Organic Synthesis, Geochemistry, Chemistry of Waste Management, Chemo Statistics, Seminar, Research Project

The industrial attachment (CHM 399) is a 12-week placement at 300 level, preferably in the long vacation. GOUNI’s own electives include Food Chemistry and Biotechnology, Colour Chemistry Technology, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Natural Local Products Chemistry, and Cement and Fertilizer Chemistry.

Careers

Chemistry graduates work in quality control and analysis for food, drink, paint, cement, pharmaceutical and oil companies, in environmental and regulatory agencies, and in research laboratories. Others teach (after a postgraduate diploma in education) or go on to a master’s in analytical, organic, industrial or environmental chemistry. Registration with the Institute of Chartered Chemists of Nigeria is the usual professional step after graduation.

Mistakes that cost Chemistry applicants a GOUNI place

  • Three sittings when GOUNI’s remark allows two.
  • No Physics credit, which both the handbook and JAMB’s general line expect.
  • Choosing Chemistry Education on JAMB (listed as Education and Chemistry) when you wanted the B.Sc.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
  • Missing the e-mail with the decision.
