GOUNI Industrial Physics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Industrial Physics is 150 and the form is free. See the GOUNI Biology credit rule, UTME subjects, Direct Entry, JUPEB, fees and the course list.

The GOUNI Industrial Physics cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu applies 150 to every programme outside Medicine, Law and Nursing for 2026/2027, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. GOUNI has not published a separate Industrial Physics score, and the form is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The rule that trips people up is on the O’level side. JAMB’s brochure has a remark for GOUNI alone on Industrial Physics: five credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology, in not more than two sittings. Most universities let you use Further Mathematics or Agricultural Science as the fifth science; GOUNI’s remark names Biology. Below I cover that rule, the UTME subjects, Direct Entry and JUPEB, how GOUNI decides, the fee question and the GOUNI-specific courses in the curriculum.

I could not find a separate Industrial Physics score from GOUNI for any session. The form page names higher figures only for Medicine and Surgery (200), Law (200) and Nursing (180). Everything else, including Industrial Physics, sits at 150.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)

Physics degrees attract fewer candidates than the health sciences, and GOUNI decides forms as they come rather than ranking everyone against a quota. These bands are my own advice:

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Industrial Physics
Below 150Not eligible through UTME this year. JUPEB at GOUNI (Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry) is the closest alternative.
150 to 159Eligible. Check the Biology credit; it decides more applications than the score does.
160 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI, and above the 160 floor at ESUT and UNN.
180 and aboveComfortable anywhere in Enugu for this course. Physics with Electronics at GOUNI is worth a look if you like circuits.

Biology or Agricultural Science?

The JAMB remark for GOUNI names Biology. GOUNI’s own curriculum says Biology or Agriculture. CAPS works from the brochure, so Biology is the safe credit. If your fifth science is Agricultural Science or Further Mathematics, e-mail GOUNI for written confirmation before you pay, or add Biology at the next NECO or GCE.

Which UTME subjects to write

I would write English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. It meets JAMB’s line, matches GOUNI’s JUPEB combination for the course and keeps Physics, Physics with Electronics and Industrial Chemistry open if you change course. The 100 level courses are General Physics I to IV and General Chemistry I and II, so Chemistry is the better fourth subject. Biology is allowed by JAMB, but you will not use it much in the degree.

  • Sittings: two at most, per the GOUNI remark and the curriculum.
  • Pass grades: a D7 in any of the five subjects does not count.
  • Awaiting result: you can sit the UTME and fill the GOUNI form while waiting, but GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is uploaded.

Direct Entry and JUPEB

A-level or IJMB candidates with Physics and Mathematics can apply on JAMB’s Direct Entry form. GOUNI’s curriculum places them at 200 level on a three-year route needing at least 90 units. The form page only says DE applicants should use the current JAMB Direct Entry form. GOUNI’s on-campus JUPEB programme groups Industrial Physics with Physics with Electronics, Renewable Energy and Geophysics under one combination: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. It runs for nine to eleven months, the form costs ₦10,000 and you need five credits in no more than two sittings.

How GOUNI screens Industrial Physics applicants

The official form page describes no Post-UTME test for undergraduate courses. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. The page mentions no written test, interview or aggregate score for Industrial Physics.

The reply comes by e-mail, so give an address you check daily and type it carefully. One wrong letter and the offer goes nowhere.

Worked example (illustrative)

GOUNI publishes no aggregate formula, so this example only checks score and subjects.

Kosisochukwu scored 168 in English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. Her NECO from one sitting has B3 in Physics, B2 in Mathematics, C6 in English, C5 in Chemistry, A1 in Further Mathematics and C4 in Agricultural Science.

  1. Score: 168 is 18 above GOUNI’s 150.
  2. UTME subjects: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry fit JAMB’s line.
  3. O’level: English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry are fine. She has no Biology. JAMB’s general line would accept Further Mathematics or Agricultural Science, but GOUNI’s remark names Biology.
  4. Next step: e-mail GOUNI to ask whether Further Mathematics or Agricultural Science will do, and register Biology at the next GCE as a fallback.

Uchenna scored 152 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Biology and has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology across two WAEC sittings. With a lower score he meets every line that Kosisochukwu misses.

Admission odds and advice

  • The Biology credit decides it: at 150 and above, GOUNI’s remark is the line most likely to stop you.
  • Fix your institution early: GOUNI can only propose candidates who have it on their JAMB profile.
  • Reply fast: GOUNI answers in about three working days, so an offer can arrive well before public universities finish screening.
  • Ask about fees in writing: Industrial Physics has no row in the 2025/2026 fee schedule.
  • Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.

Who this course suits

I would recommend it to a candidate who enjoys Physics but wants to build and fix things: solar systems, sensors, welding, electronics. If you prefer theory and research, GOUNI’s B.Sc. Physics is closer. If circuits are your main interest, compare Physics with Electronics.

How to apply for Industrial Physics at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and the course “Industrial Physics”, and write English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry (or Biology).
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre once your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
  4. Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI before admission lists are drawn up.
  5. Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, pick Industrial Physics from the Faculty of Natural Science and Environmental Studies list and submit. The form is free for this course.
  6. Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only (GOUNI warns that payments into personal accounts are at the payer’s risk), then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

How much is Industrial Physics at GOUNI? (last published fees)

GOUNI’s newest fee schedule is for 2025/2026, and it has no row for Industrial Physics. It lists Physics, in the same department, at the rates below. Use them as a guide only, and ask the bursary what Industrial Physics students pay.

LevelPhysics tuition (2025/2026), used as a guide
100 level₦820,000
200 level₦790,000
300 level₦740,000
400 level₦750,000
Item (2025/2026)AmountNote
Tuition (Physics rate)₦820,000100 level figure under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees”
Acceptance fee₦30,000100 level only
Matriculation fee₦20,000100 level only
Online course registration and ICT₦60,000Every level
Library fee₦20,000Every level
Parents’ Forum fee₦10,000Every level
Medical and drug test₦10,000100 to 300 level (₦20,000 at 400 level)
Faculty and departmental fees₦5,000 and ₦3,000Every level
All “other fees” at 100 level₦201,500The schedule’s own total for 100 level
IT/SIWES fee₦7,000300 level, NASES and FACIT students

On the Physics rate, tuition plus the ₦201,500 of other fees comes to about ₦1,021,500 for a first-year student, before hostel and upkeep. The ₦50,000 laboratory fee in the schedule is for Biological and Chemical Sciences students only. Tuition is a sessional fee: 60% in the first semester and the other 40% within three months of resumption. All other fees must be paid in full before course registration. The schedule shows no separate hostel row even though the tuition heading mentions accommodation, so ask the bursary what the tuition line covers before you budget.

Studying Industrial Physics at GOUNI

GOUNI’s Physics course page (updated 5 October 2025) says the Department of Physical and Geosciences hosts Industrial Physics, Physics and Physics with Electronics, all as four-year B.Sc. degrees. Its stated focus areas are materials science, renewable energy, instrumentation and manufacturing systems. Industrial Physics has no page of its own in GOUNI’s A to Z course list.

Is GOUNI Industrial Physics accredited?

  • GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, with no list of programme results or dates.
  • 2021 results: Industrial Physics was not among the 13 GOUNI programmes Myschool reported with full NUC accreditation on 9 August 2021.
  • Evidence it runs: it is on the 2026/2027 form list and the JUPEB list, has a curriculum on the CCMAS page and is named on the department page. It is missing from the fee schedule and the A to Z list.
  • NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and a search of NUC’s report pages turned up nothing naming this GOUNI programme.

I am treating the NUC status of Industrial Physics as not confirmed. I found no report of a denied or suspended result. Ask the admissions office by e-mail about accreditation and fees before you pay.

What you study

GOUNI’s Industrial Physics curriculum (September 2023) requires 120 units for UTME entrants and 90 for Direct Entry.

LevelMain courses in GOUNI’s curriculum
100 level (33 units)General Physics I to IV with practicals, General Chemistry I and II with practicals, Elementary Mathematics I and II, Introduction to Computing, MATHCAD, MATLAB for Physics, Semiconductor Technology
200 level (30 units)Elementary Modern Physics, Waves and Optics, Electric Circuits and Electronics, Thermal Physics, Experimental Physics, Computer Programming for Physics, Renewable Energy Sources, Welding and Fabrication, Optical Systems Design, Radar Physics
300 level (33 units)Electromagnetism, Quantum Physics, Statistical and Thermal Physics, Solid State Physics, Electronics, Applied Geophysics, Chemical Metallurgy, Corrosion and Protection, Robotic Systems, SIWES (PHY 398)
400 level (24 units)Quantum Mechanics, Mathematical Methods in Physics, Solid State Physics II, Science of Materials, Electromagnetic Theory II, Borehole Geophysics, Thin Films Technology, Physics Entrepreneurship, Research Project (6 units)

SIWES (PHY 398) is a compulsory 12-week placement at 300 level worth 3 units, and the fee schedule charges a ₦7,000 IT/SIWES fee at that level. The GOUNI-only courses (welding, radar, robotics, borehole geophysics, metallurgy) lean the degree towards workshop and field skills.

Careers

The curriculum points graduates to metal fabrication and their own welding businesses, semiconductor and electrical or electronics firms, radar and remote sensing, geological and environmental work, automation and manufacturing design. The department page adds renewable energy, materials science and quality control. Solar installation and maintenance, borehole surveys and instrument repair are realistic small business routes in Enugu.

Mistakes that cost Industrial Physics applicants a GOUNI place

  • No Biology credit when GOUNI’s remark names it.
  • Writing Economics or Geography in the UTME; only Chemistry or Biology can sit beside Physics and Mathematics.
  • Three or more O’level sittings.
  • Budgeting from a guess: Industrial Physics has no fee row, so ask.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice without a change of institution.
