Marist Poly does not publish a separate cut-off mark for Business Administration and Management (BAM). The official minimum is 100 in the UTME, the figure JAMB fixed for all polytechnics for 2026/2027, and Marist Polytechnic, Emene, Enugu, has set no higher departmental score for BAM in any notice we could find. Clear 100 with the right four subjects and five O’level credits, and you are a valid candidate.
2027/2028 update: Marist Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
BAM is on JAMB’s course list for Marist, and Marist named ND Business Administration and Management in its 2025/2026 admission advert. It is also the only Marist course with an HND on the management side. Below are the UTME subjects JAMB’s brochure accepts, the O’level credits, how Marist admits, a safe 2027 target and what the course leads to.

Business Administration cut-off history at Marist Polytechnic
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics | Official (JAMB policy meeting, reported by NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics | Official (2025 policy meeting, reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025) |
| Any year | None | Marist departmental cut-off for BAM | Never published by Marist |
Marist’s last official advert, posted on 26 June 2025, opened ND admission in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Electronics Engineering, Science Laboratory Technology and Business Administration and Management. It gave no cut-off. Private polytechnics in Enugu rarely fill business courses on merit, so the JAMB floor is the line that counts.
Safe target score for BAM at Marist Poly (my advice)
This is my own advice as an admissions adviser. Marist has not published it.
| Your UTME score | My read for BAM at Marist |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for full-time ND at any polytechnic |
| 100 to 129 | Eligible; good chance if your O’level is complete and on CAPS |
| 130 to 149 | Solid for a private polytechnic |
| 150 and above | Comfortable. This is the range I would aim for |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 150. Marist itself will probably take you lower, but 150 keeps IMT Enugu’s BAM within reach if you change your mind before CAPS closes, and business courses at public polytechnics in Enugu do attract more applicants than places.
UTME subject combination and O’level for BAM at Marist Polytechnic
| Requirement | What JAMB’s brochure says |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English (compulsory) + Mathematics + any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts, Economics |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language (not Literature in English), Mathematics, and any three of Economics/Commerce, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Geography, Office Practice, Biology/Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, History/Government, Typewriting, Shorthand |
| Sittings | Not stated for Marist; most polytechnics accept not more than two |
| Marist remark on the brochure | None. The general rule applies |
| Direct Entry | Brochure section is blank for this course |
Mathematics is compulsory in the UTME for BAM at Marist. The “Mathematics is not compulsory” remark on the brochure belongs to Igbajo Polytechnic only. Geography and Principles of Accounts both count as one of your two other subjects, which helps candidates who did not take Commerce. Biology is not on the general UTME list for BAM, so a combination such as English, Mathematics, Economics and Biology is a risk here.
At O’level the list of acceptable extra credits is wide, from Economics and Commerce to Biology, Chemistry and Physics. That makes BAM a realistic option for science students who did not do well in the UTME sciences, as long as Mathematics and English Language are credited. Literature in English does not replace English Language.
How Marist screens BAM candidates
Marist has not published a Post-UTME test, an aggregate formula or a screening fee for any course. Its 2025/2026 advert told applicants to use the Apply Now link on the Admissions menu (portal.maristpolytechnic.edu.ng) and asked anyone who had not chosen Marist to make it their first choice at a JAMB CBT centre. The school then recommends candidates on JAMB CAPS. Your UTME score, your four UTME subjects and your O’level credits are what the admission office checks.
Worked example (illustrative)
Take Somto, who scored 128 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Government. Her WAEC result has C4 in English Language, C6 in Mathematics, and credits in Economics, Commerce and Civic Education.
- JAMB floor: 128 minus 100 = 28 marks above the minimum.
- Subjects: Mathematics plus Economics and Government matches the brochure line.
- O’level: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce are on the list. Civic Education is not, so her fifth listed credit is missing.
- My read: her score and subjects are fine, but she should fix the O’level gap first. A second sitting (or a NECO result) with a credit in Government, Geography or Principles of Accounts would complete the five.
Compare Kenechukwu with 112 in English, Mathematics, Commerce and Principles of Accounts, and five clean credits including English Language and Mathematics. His score is lower, but his file has no gaps. At a private polytechnic, he is the safer applicant.
How to apply for Business Administration and Management at Marist, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN by SMS to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME e-PIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Marist Polytechnic and Business Administration and Management, with English, Mathematics and two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts or Economics.
- Write the UTME and clear 100: 100 is JAMB’s floor for every polytechnic in 2026/2027. Aim higher (see the safe target above).
- Upload your O’level on CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. A result that is not on CAPS cannot be used to admit you, and Awaiting Result candidates must upload once the result is out.
- Make Marist your choice: if you picked another school at registration, do a JAMB change of institution. Marist’s 2025/2026 advert told candidates to do exactly this at a JAMB CBT centre.
- Apply on the Marist portal: from the Admissions menu on maristpolytechnic.edu.ng, click Apply Now. It opens portal.maristpolytechnic.edu.ng, where you fill the application and upload your details.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
- Pay acceptance and school fees: pay only through channels the portal or the bursary names, then print your JAMB admission letter and complete registration.
Warning
Marist Polytechnic admits through JAMB CAPS. Do not pay anyone who offers to “process” your admission or sell a place, and do not accept a Marist admission letter that never shows on CAPS. JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Use the official portal and email (info@maristpolytechnic.edu.ng) for questions.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 31 December 2026 as the admission deadline for polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education, and said offers must be accepted on CAPS. If you sat the 2026 UTME and chose Marist, that window runs until 31 December 2026.
Studying Business Administration and Management at Marist
The ND runs for two years full-time, with a SIWES industrial placement in line with NBTE’s ND pattern. After the ND you would normally do a year of industrial training and then apply for the two-year HND. Marist lists HND Business Administration and Management, so you can progress at the same school if you qualify.
What you study
- Principles of management, organisational behaviour and business communication.
- Marketing, human resource management and entrepreneurship.
- Financial accounting, business mathematics and statistics, and economics.
- Business law and computer applications, plus a project in the final semester.
Accreditation
NBTE lists Marist Polytechnic as a private polytechnic, approved by government in 2016, and the school reported an NBTE resource inspection in September 2025. The accreditation status of BAM itself is not confirmed; Marist does not publish it and NBTE’s programme tables could not be read. Ask the admission office to show it before you pay, because it affects HND entry elsewhere and how employers treat the ND.
Marist’s courses page also lists a B.Sc in Business Administration and a B.Sc in Public Administration without naming a partner university. A polytechnic cannot award degrees on its own, so ask which university awards them before treating that as a route.
Careers
An ND in BAM leads to junior roles in administration, sales, customer service, procurement and human resources, or to running a small business. Graduates often go on to an HND or a direct entry degree and to membership of professional bodies such as the Nigerian Institute of Management.
Who runs Marist Polytechnic
Marist Polytechnic is a private Catholic polytechnic run by the Marist Brothers at Umuchigbo Iji-Nike, Emene, Enugu State. The Rector is Rev. Br. Anochie Okechukwu Venantius (PhD). NBTE’s 2020 Directory of Accredited Programmes lists it as a private polytechnic (entry 85, P.M.B. 104 Emene) and gives 2016 as the year government approved it. The school’s courses page groups programmes into five schools: Computing and IT, Engineering Technology, Environmental Technology, Health/Allied/Applied Sciences, and Management Sciences.
BAM belongs to the Management Sciences school by its name, though the courses page does not tie each programme to a school, so confirm the department on your admission letter.

Mistakes that cost BAM applicants a Marist place
- Dropping Mathematics from the UTME: it is compulsory for BAM at Marist.
- Using Biology as a UTME subject: it is not on the general list for this course.
- Counting Civic Education as a listed credit: it is not among the brochure’s O’level options.
- Using Literature for English: the O’level rule names English Language.
- Leaving O’level off CAPS: the school cannot recommend you without it.
