The Madonna University cut off mark for Petroleum Engineering is 150. Madonna’s 2026/2027 admission page sets 150 as the general minimum and gives higher figures only for Law, Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing, so Petroleum Engineering at the Akpugo campus in Enugu State takes the 150 line, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. For the 2027 UTME, I advise aiming for 170.
2027/2028 update: Madonna University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Course check: Petroleum Engineering is on Madonna’s JAMB course list under the exact name “Petroleum Engineering”. Madonna’s department page gives the Akpugo campus address and says the Faculty of Engineering and Technology moved to Akpugo on 27 April 2011.
Accreditation check: the department page says Petroleum Engineering received full COREN accreditation in June 2013 and full NUC accreditation in March 2016. Those are the latest dates it gives, and both are older than a five-year NUC cycle. I found no newer NUC or COREN record, so ask for current letters before paying.
Madonna University cut off mark for Petroleum Engineering: the figures that apply
No Madonna notice has given Petroleum Engineering a figure of its own. The general minimum applies.

Madonna’s two official pages disagree on the higher courses. The admission page lists Law 190, Medicine 180, Pharmacy 160 and Nursing 170, while the undergraduate page says those four need 200. Neither page names any engineering course, and both say 150 applies to everything else, so the conflict does not change the figure for engineering candidates at Akpugo. Aggregator pages that still print 140 are repeating the 2021/2022 notice; 140 is now below JAMB’s legal floor.
Safe target score for Petroleum Engineering at Madonna (my advice)
This is my own advice; Madonna publishes no departmental figure. Petroleum Engineering is a smaller department than Electrical or Computer Engineering at most private universities, so I set the target at 170.

Petroleum Engineering is taught at fewer Nigerian universities than the other branches, so if you are set on the course, a private place with complete paperwork is worth securing early.

I checked the JAMB brochure entry for Petroleum Engineering on Myschool. It has no Madonna remark, and Madonna’s department page asks for the same subjects.

Geography is not an O’level requirement, but it helps with the geology courses in the early years. Biology, Further Mathematics or Technical Drawing all work as the fifth science.
Points Petroleum Engineering applicants get wrong
- Thinking the course is at Elele: Elele is Madonna’s main campus in Rivers State, near the oil industry, but engineering is taught at Akpugo in Enugu State.
- Confusing it with Chemical Engineering: they share early courses, but Petroleum Engineering focuses on reservoirs, drilling and production.
- A pass in Chemistry or Physics: both must be credits.
- Registering after the CAPS window: JAMB’s 2026/2027 deadline for private universities was 30 November 2026.
Direct Entry into Petroleum Engineering
Madonna’s page asks Direct Entry candidates for passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at A level or equivalent, and says OND and HND holders with at least an upper credit are considered for 200 and 300 level. Register Direct Entry through JAMB and keep your O’level credits ready.
How Madonna screens Petroleum Engineering applicants
Madonna does not advertise a written post-UTME examination. Its admission page says the screening and admission forms are free and that every fresh applicant for 2026/2027 pays a ₦30,000 medical test fee. You generate an invoice on the portal (it begins with MNT), then pay through Quickteller or at any commercial bank. Legit.ng reported the same fee on 14 September 2026. Older blog posts mention a ₦6,000 medical fee paid at Mayfresh Mortgage Bank; that is the old arrangement, so follow the portal invoice.

Worked example for a Petroleum Engineering candidate
Madonna publishes no formula, so check against the 150 floor, my 170 target and the subject rules.
Oluchi scored 168 with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. She has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology from WAEC and NECO.
- Legal floor: 168 is above 150, so she can apply.
- My safe target: 168 is two marks short of 170. That puts her in my “good chance” band.
- UTME subjects: the required combination.
- O’level: all five credits from two sittings, which Madonna allows. She should apply early and upload her O’level at once.
Illustration only: on a 50:50 aggregate, 168 divided by 8 gives 21 of the 50 UTME points. Madonna has not said it uses this or any formula.
Is Petroleum Engineering at Madonna accredited?
Madonna’s department page says the programme received full COREN accreditation in June 2013 and full NUC accreditation in March 2016. Two warnings come with that page. Its graduation section refers to a B.Sc in Computer Science and it lists NUC dates that belong to the Computer Science department, so parts of it were copied from another page. And NUC full accreditation lasts five years, so a March 2016 result would have needed renewal around 2021.
I found no NUC report page for Madonna Petroleum Engineering. NUC’s report pages for Madonna (listed as Madonna University, Okija) cover Anatomy, Physiology, Marketing and Business Education, all graded Full in November 2024. NUC’s full results list cannot be read past Crawford University, and COREN’s published visit reports do not include Madonna. Ask the department for its current NUC and COREN letters naming Petroleum Engineering before you pay acceptance.
How to apply for Petroleum Engineering at Madonna, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register the right course: pick Madonna University and the course listed by JAMB as “Petroleum Engineering”, with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus Use of English. If Madonna was not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution; JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre as soon as your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Madonna lets awaiting-result candidates apply, but CAPS cannot carry an offer until the upload is done.
- Create your Madonna applicant account: on the portal at madonna.skool-board.com, choose Petroleum Engineering and note your applicant number.
- Pay the medical test fee: generate the ₦30,000 MNT invoice on the portal and pay through Quickteller or a commercial bank. Keep the receipt.
- Attend the medical examination and oral interview: at the admissions office of the campus you chose. For engineering, ask whether it holds at Akpugo.
- Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept or reject offers in 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay school charges to Madonna only: Madonna has not published an acceptance fee. Ask the bursary for the full first-year bill in writing and pay only through the portal or channels it names.
Admission outside CAPS is illegal
JAMB and the News Agency of Nigeria have both stated that any admission given outside CAPS is illegal. A real Madonna offer always shows on your JAMB CAPS page, so do not pay anyone who promises a place in exchange for money.

Madonna’s page describes a B.Eng in Petroleum Engineering covering reservoir engineering, petroleum production engineering and drilling engineering. Engineering degrees at Madonna run five years from UTME entry. The stages below are the usual shape of the degree in Nigeria, since Madonna has not published a course list.

Madonna’s page lists exploration and production, refineries, petrochemicals, gas processing, oil and gas services, pipeline design and health, safety and environment work, as well as water treatment, environmental monitoring, consultancy and public service. The department encourages students to join the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and COREN.
Petroleum Engineering school fees at Madonna
Madonna’s fees page could not be opened. Legit.ng’s Madonna fees article (updated 5 May 2026) shows ₦370,000 for the first semester and ₦230,000 for the second, ₦600,000 in all, against Petroleum Engineering and the other engineering courses, but the table carries no session label. Treat it as a rough guide and ask the bursary for the current bill, including hostel, laboratory and medical charges.

Madonna University is a private Catholic university founded on 10 May 1999 at Okija, Anambra State, by Very Rev. Fr. Prof. E. M. P. Edeh, who is also its Chancellor. It has three campuses. Okija is the founding campus, Elele in Rivers State hosts the teaching hospital and clinical training, and Akpugo in Enugu State is described by the university as the campus for engineering and emerging sciences.
