The ESUT cut off mark for Public Administration for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology did not name Public Administration in the score list of its official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026, so the advert’s general line for “other courses” applies, and that line is 160. A score of 160 or more made you eligible for ESUT’s online screening for the course.
2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Remember that 160 gets you screened, not admitted. ESUT ranks eligible candidates and does not publish the score that finally got into Public Administration. Below are the official figures, last year’s figure, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination with ESUT’s Mathematics remark, the screening rules, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the course leads to.
ESUT cut off mark for Public Administration 2027/2028 at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| ESUT minimum UTME for Public Administration | 160 | Official (general “other courses” line, ESUT advert, 4 July 2026) |
| ESUT final admission (merit) score | Not published | ESUT does not release one |
| Post-UTME test | None | Online screening only |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 | Official |
| Faculty | Management Sciences | ESUT advert |
| UTME subjects | English, Government, Economics and any other subject | JAMB brochure general entry |
| Admission list | On JAMB CAPS from 13 October 2026 | Myschool report |
At ESUT, Public Administration is in the Faculty of Management Sciences, while Political Science (180) is in Social Sciences. The two courses attract similar candidates, and the 20-mark gap between their minimums is worth knowing if your score sits between 160 and 180.
Public Administration cut-off history at ESUT
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 160 | Minimum UTME to apply (“other courses” line) | Official ESUT advert |
| 2025/2026 | 160 | Minimum UTME to apply (“Others” group) | Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice |
DTW Tutorials summarised ESUT’s 2025/2026 screening notice in July 2025 and put Public Administration among the “Others” at 160; I did not see ESUT’s original. ESUT kept the same figure for 2026/2027. A future advert could still move the course into a higher band, as happened to several courses this year, so check each new advert.
I found no ESUT merit or departmental admission score for Public Administration in any year. Higher numbers on some blogs carry no ESUT source.
Safe target score for Public Administration at ESUT (my advice)
This section is my advice, not ESUT’s rule. Public Administration is less crowded than Political Science or Accountancy at ESUT, but it is a common second choice for candidates who miss those courses, which pushes the admitted range above the minimum.
| Your 2026 UTME score | My read for ESUT Public Administration |
|---|---|
| 160 to 179 | Eligible, but borderline. Respond fast to any alternative offer on CAPS. |
| 180 to 199 | A fair chance, better with good credits in English, Mathematics, Economics and Government. |
| 200 to 219 | A good chance. |
| 220 and above | Comfortable. |
For a 2027 attempt, I would aim for 200 or more and make sure Mathematics is a credit, because ESUT’s brochure remark asks for it.
Catchment and state of origin
ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is an Enugu State Government university, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from all states. ESUT has not said it uses the federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split.
JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Public Administration
| Requirement | Public Administration |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Government, Economics and any other subject |
| O’level (general) | Five credits including English Language, Economics and Government |
| O’level (ESUT remark) | Credit passes must include Mathematics |
| Sittings | Not stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure |
| Direct Entry (general) | Two A’level passes from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government, Geography and Statistics. No ESUT DE remark |
| Special requirements | None published by ESUT |
These are from the JAMB brochure entry for Public Administration (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026). The entry carries an O’level remark shared by COOU, ESUT and UNIZIK: your credits must include Mathematics. So your safe O’level set for ESUT is English, Mathematics, Economics, Government and one more subject. Holders of the NBC can, under the general entry, offer relevant commercial subjects such as Commerce or Principles of Accounts for the extra credits.
Picking the fourth UTME subject
JAMB’s general entry leaves the fourth subject open. Literature in English, CRS, History, Commerce and Geography are all common. Choose your strongest. If you also want to keep Political Science open, a Social Science or Arts fourth subject is the safer choice.
How ESUT screening works for Public Administration
ESUT ran its 2026/2027 screening on these terms.
| Detail | ESUT 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose ESUT in the 2026 UTME, and candidates who did not choose ESUT but changed institution to ESUT through JAMB first |
| Score needed | The minimum UTME score ESUT set for the course (see the table above) |
| Direct Entry | Screened online too; former institutions must verify and clear DE candidates on JAMB e-facility |
| Registration window | Tuesday 7 July to Saturday 15 August 2026 (closed) |
| Fee | ₦2,000, paid at a bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct or online by debit card |
| Test | None. Screening is online only, with no physical screening and no aptitude test |
| Awaiting results | Allowed for May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, but results released after 30 September 2026 are not accepted |
| O’level upload | Every candidate must upload O’level results on JAMB CAPS |
| Names | Must match on your O’level certificates, UTME result and other documents |
| Admission status | Published on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS |
ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.
Worked example for a Public Administration candidate
Take Kosiso, who scored 187 in the 2026 UTME and has B2, B3, B3, C4 and C5 in English, Mathematics, Economics, Government and Literature.
- Eligibility check (official): 187 minus the 160 minimum = 27 marks above the line.
- UTME half (illustrative method): 187 ÷ 8 = 23.38 out of 50.
- O’level half (illustrative method): 9 + 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 38 out of 50.
- Illustrative total: 23.38 + 38 = 61.38 out of 100.
Uche scored 205 but has C4, C5, C6, C5 and C6. His illustrative total is 25.63 + 29 = 54.63, behind Kosiso. If ESUT ranks by UTME score alone, Uche is ahead. ESUT hasn’t said, so improve whichever is weaker.
To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.
How to apply for Public Administration at ESUT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Government, Economics and one other subject and choose ESUT and Public Administration. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
- Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
- Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
- Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Public Administration, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
- Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.
Warning
Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.
Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to close admissions by 31 October 2026. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms, so check the ESUT portal if CAPS shows a course you did not choose.
If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
Studying Public Administration at ESUT
Public Administration is one of eight programmes in ESUT’s Faculty of Management Sciences in the 2026/2027 advert. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani; I did not confirm on an ESUT page which part of the campus the faculty uses. A B.Sc. in Public Administration in Nigeria normally takes four years for UTME entrants. Check ESUT’s handbook for the exact course list.
You will study how government works in practice:
- Administrative theory: organisation theory, bureaucracy and decision making.
- Nigerian government: the constitution, federalism, and local government administration.
- Public finance: budgeting, taxation and public financial management.
- Personnel and human resources in the public service.
- Public policy analysis and development administration.
- Research methods and statistics, then a final-year project.
Accreditation: the Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that the National Universities Commission gave ESUT full accreditation for programmes in its Faculties of Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and Administration after the late 2024 exercise. The report names faculties, not single programmes, and ESUT’s current faculty is called Management Sciences, so I can’t tell you the exact grade Public Administration received. Earlier, in October 2018, PM News reported the then Vice-Chancellor saying NUC had accredited 65 of ESUT’s 68 programmes. If accreditation matters to your decision, ask the department for its latest NUC result before you pay acceptance.

Mistakes Public Administration applicants make
- Treating 160 as the admission score: it only makes you eligible.
- No Mathematics credit: ESUT’s brochure remark requires one.
- Missing Government or Economics at O’level: both are in the general entry.
- Skipping the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes it compulsory.
- Assuming Political Science and Public Administration share a cut-off: they don’t. ESUT set 180 for Political Science and 160 for Public Administration.
ESUT cut off mark for Public Administration: frequently asked questions
Is 170 enough for Public Administration in ESUT? 170 clears ESUT’s 160 minimum, so you were eligible for screening, but ESUT does not publish the final score and 170 is borderline. I would aim for 200 or more.
Is Mathematics compulsory for Public Administration in ESUT? At O’level, yes. ESUT’s remark in the JAMB brochure says your credit passes must include Mathematics. It is not one of the UTME subjects in the general entry.
Which faculty is Public Administration in at ESUT? The Faculty of Management Sciences, according to ESUT’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME advert.
How much is ESUT screening form for Public Administration? The 2026/2027 screening fee was ₦2,000 for all courses, paid through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct at a bank or online by debit card.
