ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Marketing 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

ESUT needs 160 in the UTME to screen for Marketing in 2027/2028 and publishes no merit score. See the JAMB subjects, O’level rules, screening terms, a worked example and a safe target score.

The ESUT cut off mark for Marketing for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology did not name Marketing in the score list of its official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026, so the advert’s general line for “other courses” applies, and that line is 160. With 160 or more, and Marketing as your course, you were eligible for ESUT’s online screening.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

160 is only the floor. ESUT ranks eligible candidates afterwards and does not publish the score that finally got admitted into Marketing. Below you will find the official figures, the previous year’s figure, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination and O’level rules, how ESUT’s screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and what you will study in ESUT’s Faculty of Management Sciences.

Several Management Sciences courses were named in the advert’s 180 band: Accountancy, Business Administration and Mass Communication. Marketing was not, which leaves it at 160 with Banking and Finance, Insurance, Cooperative Economics and Public Administration. That gives Marketing one of the lower entry floors in the faculty.

Marketing cut-off history at ESUT

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027160Minimum UTME to apply (“other courses” line)Official ESUT advert
2025/2026160Minimum UTME to apply (“Others” group)Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice

The 2025/2026 figure comes from DTW Tutorials’ summary of ESUT’s screening notice for that year; I did not see the original ESUT notice. It put Marketing among the “Others” at 160, the same as this year. These minimums are set again every session, so a figure that held for two years can still change in the 2027/2028 advert.

You may see much higher “ESUT cut-off marks” on some blogs. None that I found cites an ESUT document for Marketing, and ESUT has never published a merit list score for the course. Treat any such number as a guess.

Safe target score for Marketing at ESUT (my advice)

This section is my advice, not ESUT’s rule. Marketing draws fewer applicants than Accountancy or Business Administration, but it also absorbs some of the candidates who miss those courses, so the admitted range sits above 160.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Marketing
160 to 179Eligible for screening, but you may lose out to stronger candidates. Accept any alternative offer CAPS shows you.
180 to 199A fair chance, better with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics at one sitting.
200 to 219A good chance.
220 and aboveComfortable for Marketing.

For a 2027 attempt, I would aim for 200 or more. If you are between 160 and 180, keep an eye on CAPS for an alternative course offer and decide quickly; JAMB gives you four weeks to accept.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is an Enugu State Government university, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from all states. The federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split is federal policy; ESUT has not said it uses it.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Marketing

RequirementMarketing
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other Social Science subject (Government, Commerce, Accounting or Geography are common picks)
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct EntryTwo A’level passes including Economics (JAMB general entry). ESUT has not published its own DE grades
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These are the general requirements in the JAMB brochure entry for Marketing (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026). The entry has special remarks for LASU, UNICAL, UNIBEN, GOUNI, Babcock, Crawford and a few others, but none for ESUT, so the general rule applies to ESUT unless JAMB’s current e-brochure shows an ESUT remark when you register. Mathematics is in the UTME combination as well as the O’level list, so a weak Mathematics grade hurts you twice.

Choosing your fourth UTME subject

JAMB accepts any Social Science as the fourth subject, but pick the one you will score highest in. Commerce and Government are popular with Marketing candidates because they overlap with the course. Don’t pick Literature or a science subject outside the Social Sciences; it won’t satisfy the combination.

How ESUT screening works for Marketing

ESUT ran its 2026/2027 screening on these terms.

DetailESUT 2026/2027 screening

O’level uploadEvery candidate must upload O’level results on JAMB CAPS

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for a Marketing candidate

Take Chidera, who scored 196 in the 2026 UTME and has B2, B3, C4, B3 and C5 in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Government.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 196 minus the 160 minimum = 36 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 196 ÷ 8 = 24.5 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 9 + 8 + 7 + 8 + 6 = 38 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 24.5 + 38 = 62.5 out of 100.

Emeka scored 214 but has C4, C5, C6, C4 and C5. His illustrative total is 26.75 + 31 = 57.75, behind Chidera. If ESUT ranks by UTME score alone, Emeka is ahead instead. ESUT hasn’t said which it does, so the safe plan is to work on both your score and your grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Marketing at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other Social Science subject and choose ESUT and Marketing. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Marketing, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to close admissions by 31 October 2026. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms, so check the ESUT portal if CAPS shows a course you did not choose.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Marketing at ESUT

Marketing sits in ESUT’s Faculty of Management Sciences, with Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Cooperative Economics and Management, Insurance and Risk Management, Mass Communication and Public Administration. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani; I did not confirm on an ESUT page which buildings the faculty uses. A B.Sc. in Marketing in Nigeria normally takes four years for UTME entrants (three for most Direct Entry students); check ESUT’s handbook for the exact structure.

Expect a mix of business foundations and marketing practice:

  • Foundations: principles of marketing, economics, business mathematics, statistics and accounting.
  • Consumer and market study: consumer behaviour, marketing research and sales forecasting.
  • Selling and promotion: salesmanship, advertising, public relations and brand management.
  • Distribution and trade: retail and channel management, international marketing and export trade.
  • Newer areas: digital and social media marketing, which most Nigerian departments now teach in some form.
  • Industrial training and a final-year research project.

Accreditation: the Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that the National Universities Commission gave ESUT full accreditation for programmes in its Faculties of Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and Administration after the late 2024 exercise. The report names faculties, not single programmes, and ESUT’s current faculty is called Management Sciences, so I can’t tell you the exact grade Marketing received. Earlier, in October 2018, PM News reported the then Vice-Chancellor saying NUC had accredited 65 of ESUT’s 68 programmes. If accreditation matters to your decision, ask the department for its latest NUC result before you pay acceptance.

Career paths after Marketing

  • Sales and business development in banks, telecoms, FMCG companies and pharmaceutical firms.
  • Brand, product and trade marketing roles.
  • Advertising, media buying and public relations agencies.
  • Digital marketing, social media management and e-commerce.
  • Market research and consumer insight work.
  • Running your own business, where selling and pricing skills pay off directly.

Many marketers also take the professional examinations of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria (NIMN) after their degree. It is not required for admission, but employers notice it.

Mistakes Marketing applicants make

  • Treating 160 as the admission score: it only makes you eligible for screening.
  • Writing a wrong fourth subject: the combination needs a Social Science alongside Mathematics and Economics.
  • No Economics credit: the brochure lists it at O’level, and most Marketing departments enforce it.
  • Skipping the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes it compulsory.
  • Ignoring an alternative offer: if CAPS shows a different course, reply within the four weeks.

ESUT cut off mark for Marketing: frequently asked questions

Is 180 enough for Marketing in ESUT? 180 clears ESUT’s 160 minimum by 20 marks and gives you a fair chance, but ESUT does not publish the final score, so it is not a safe score. Good O’level grades help; I would aim for 200 or more.

What subjects do I need for Marketing in ESUT? JAMB’s general entry is Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other Social Science subject, with O’level credits in English, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register.

Does ESUT write post-UTME for Marketing? No. ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening was online only, with no test and no physical screening. You registered on the portal and paid ₦2,000.

Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Marketing? Yes, for May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO or NABTEB, but ESUT said results released after 30 September 2026 would not be accepted, and you must upload the result on CAPS.

The release of the 2026/2027 admission list on CAPS on 13 October 2026 is from a Myschool report. ESUT’s faculty-level NUC accreditation is from the Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are the general JAMB brochure entry for Marketing as reprinted by Myschool; it carries no ESUT remark. The 2018 figure of 65 accredited programmes is from PM News, 19 October 2018. The acceptance fee of about ₦26,000 is from education blogs (Legit.ng, O3schools, Backtoschool) and is unofficial. ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, a catchment list or a post-screening departmental cut-off, so none appears here as fact. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and will be updated if ESUT releases new figures.
