ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Anatomy 2027/2028: Subject Combination, O’Level Rules and Screening

ESUT set 180 as the minimum UTME score for Anatomy in 2027/2028 and publishes no merit score. See the subject combination, O’level rules, screening terms, a worked example and the score I would aim for.

The ESUT cut off mark for Anatomy for 2026/2027 is 180 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology named Anatomy in the 180 band of its official Post-UTME advert on 4 July 2026, together with Public Health, Biochemistry, Microbiology and several other courses. That is the lowest score ESUT would screen for Anatomy this session.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

180 is a minimum, not the admission score, and ESUT does not publish the merit score that actually gets in. Anatomy is the only programme in ESUT’s Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences this session, and it shares candidates with Medicine, so expect real competition above 180. Below you will find the official figures, the cut-off history, a safe target score (my advice), the subject combination and O’level rules, how ESUT’s online screening works, the CAPS steps, and where Anatomy can take you.

The minimum UTME score is what ESUT announces before screening. The merit score, the lowest score actually admitted, depends on who applied that year, and ESUT keeps it to itself. Any single “ESUT Anatomy cut-off” you see above 180 is somebody’s estimate.

Anatomy cut-off history at ESUT

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027180Minimum UTME to apply (Anatomy named)Official ESUT advert
2025/2026180Minimum UTME to apply (Anatomy named)Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice

The minimum stayed at 180 across the last two sessions. ESUT has not released a departmental merit list for Anatomy in either year, and the blog lists that quote high ESUT “cut-offs” for Medicine, Pharmacy and Nursing don’t give a figure for Anatomy. Minimums can change from one advert to the next, so check the new advert each year.

Safe target score for Anatomy at ESUT (my advice)

This is my advice, not an ESUT rule. Many Anatomy applicants first chose Medicine, Nursing or Pharmacy and were moved or switched after missing those. The candidates you compete with often have 220 to 240.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Anatomy
180 to 199Eligible for screening, but merit admission is uncertain.
200 to 219A fair chance with good O’level science grades.
220 to 239A good chance.
240 and aboveComfortable. You also meet ESUT’s Medicine minimum, so choose deliberately.

For a 2027 attempt, I would aim for 225 or more, with B grades or better in Biology and Chemistry. Remember the 240 floor for Medicine: if you are there, decide early whether Anatomy is your goal or a fallback.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. As an Enugu State university, Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split has not been stated as ESUT policy. Plan to get in on score.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Anatomy

RequirementAnatomy
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct EntryTwo A’level passes from Biology, Chemistry and Physics, plus UTME requirements (JAMB general entry). ESUT has not published its own DE grades
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These are the general requirements in the JAMB brochure entry for Anatomy (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026). The entry lists waivers for several universities, including EBSU and UNIZIK, but none for ESUT, so the general rule should apply. Check JAMB’s current e-brochure before you register, because a wrong subject combination cannot be fixed by a high score.

Mathematics is not a UTME subject for Anatomy, but you still need a credit in it at O’level. Many science candidates miss that and get dropped at screening.

How ESUT screening works for Anatomy

The 2026/2027 screening ran on these terms from ESUT’s advert.

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for an Anatomy candidate

Take Chidi, who scored 210 in the 2026 UTME with B2, B3, B3, C4 and C4 in his five O’level subjects.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 210 minus the 180 minimum = 30 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 210 ÷ 8 = 26.25 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 9 + 8 + 8 + 7 + 7 = 39 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 26.25 + 39 = 65.25 out of 100.

Amara scored 198 but has A1, A1, B2, B3 and B3. Her illustrative total is 24.75 + 45 = 69.75, ahead of Chidi despite 12 fewer JAMB marks. Ranked on UTME alone, Chidi would be ahead. ESUT has not said which way it ranks, so strong grades on both sides are your best cover.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Anatomy at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and choose ESUT and Anatomy. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Anatomy, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026, Myschool reported. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer and set 31 October 2026 as the end of admissions for public universities. If ESUT offered you Anatomy in place of Medicine, CAPS shows it as a new offer that you accept or reject. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen the terms, so read them on the portal.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Anatomy at ESUT

Anatomy is in ESUT’s Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and in the 2026/2027 advert it is the only programme in that faculty. Physiology and Medical Biochemistry do not appear in ESUT’s 2026/2027 list, so if a blog tells you ESUT offers them this session, it is out of date. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani, and its medical programmes are linked to the College of Medicine and ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu; ESUT has not said on the pages I checked exactly where Anatomy is taught. A B.Sc. in Anatomy usually takes four years for UTME entrants in Nigeria; check ESUT’s handbook.

  • Gross anatomy: the structure of the whole body, learned through dissection and models.
  • Histology: tissues under the microscope and slide preparation.
  • Embryology: how the body develops before birth and how birth defects arise.
  • Neuroanatomy: the brain, spinal cord and nerves.
  • Supporting courses: physiology, biochemistry and research methods.
  • A final-year research project.

Accreditation: the Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that ESUT got full NUC accreditation for programmes in its Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and Administration faculties. Basic Medical Sciences is not named in that report, and I found no separate result for Anatomy. Ask the department for its current status.

Career paths after Anatomy

  • Teaching and research in anatomy departments, after a master’s or PhD.
  • Histology, research and forensic laboratories.
  • Pharmaceutical and medical sales.
  • Graduate entry into Medicine or other health courses at universities that take graduates.
  • Postgraduate study in physiology, pharmacology, public health or biomedical sciences.

Mistakes Anatomy applicants make

  • Assuming Anatomy is easy to enter: it shares candidates with Medicine.
  • No Mathematics credit: required at O’level even though it isn’t a UTME subject.
  • Ignoring a CAPS offer for Anatomy: if ESUT moves you from another course, you still have to accept on CAPS.
  • Results released late: awaiting results only counted if released by 30 September 2026.
  • Names that differ across documents: ESUT’s advert requires them to match.

ESUT cut off mark for Anatomy: frequently asked questions

Is 200 enough for Anatomy in ESUT? 200 is 20 above ESUT’s 180 minimum and gives you a fair chance, but it is not safe because ESUT does not publish the final score. I would aim for 225 or more.

Does ESUT offer Physiology? Not in 2026/2027. ESUT’s advert lists Anatomy as the only programme in its Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences.

Can I use two sittings for Anatomy in ESUT? ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert doesn’t state a sitting rule. Most Nigerian universities accept up to two sittings, but confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure.

Where is ESUT Anatomy located, Agbani or Enugu? ESUT has not said on the pages I checked. Its medical programmes are linked to the College of Medicine and ESUT Teaching Hospital, Parklane, Enugu, so ask at clearance.

The 2026/2027 minimum UTME scores per course, the screening rules (eligibility, change of institution, Direct Entry clearance, awaiting results up to 30 September 2026, compulsory O’level upload on CAPS, no test, ₦2,000 fee, 7 July to 15 August 2026 window, portal and payment steps) come from ESUT’s notice Post-UTME Screening for UTME/Direct Entry Candidates for 2026/2027 Admission, posted on 4 July 2026, and the full advert PDF signed by the Registrar, Ambrose G. Ugwu. The 2025/2026 per-course minimums are from DTW Tutorials’ summary of ESUT’s 2025/2026 screening notice (30 July 2025); I did not open the original notice. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026. The release of the 2026/2027 admission list on CAPS on 13 October 2026 is from a Myschool report. ESUT’s faculty-level NUC accreditation is from the Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are the general JAMB brochure entry for Anatomy as reprinted by Myschool; it carries no ESUT remark. That Anatomy is the only Basic Medical Sciences programme comes from the faculty list in ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert. The acceptance fee of about ₦26,000 is from education blogs (Legit.ng, O3schools, Backtoschool) and is unofficial. ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, a catchment list or a post-screening departmental cut-off, so none appears here as fact. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and will be updated if ESUT releases new figures.
